Fallout: New Vegas - Gen. Discussion & Info

Does anyone know if Carrie Boyd (NCR soldier at Camp McCarren) is involved in any major quests. I know she has some minor ones associated with her, but I don't see anything that would stop me from finishing the game or getting achievements. The reasons I ask is because she is now locked in the interrogation room that you cannot open, and I didn't realize it until I had played for hours.

Oh, and there was no new patch today. I just popped the game in and didn't download anything.

Perhaps I heard wrong on the CAGcast, then (maybe Wombat was talking about the first patch?).

Edit: Nope, I heard correctly. He said it's a "new, new patch". Wonder why the interwebs is not blowing up with the news?

If she's the married hard ass who contracted you to interrogate the Legion prisoner then yes. She's attached to the NCR mole hunt quest as well. I'm almost positive I had to talk to her a few times in order to advance through it though I'd follow up with a wiki search to be perfectly sure.

You're right, but the spy hunt is a side quest and does not have an achievement attached to it. I was wondering if she is involved in anything major.

From looking at The Vault, I see that she's involved in a bunch of sidequests, unfortunately. Still, if it's nothing essential, while it sucks that I cannot do them, because this game is so buggy, I will probably just keep going. I had no idea it had happened, and I was going over my saves, so I don't have a save from before the interrogation for quite some time. Really don't feel like putting that time back into the game.

Patch is supposed to be out by this Tuesday, according to someone named Terrac that talked to dev tech support and posted on the Bethesda forum.

Posted Today, 11:20 AM

Got some news for ya folks. Called Bethesda tech support this morning and call about a Heavy duty freezing issue im having in one spot of the game. quote" there is suppose to be a game update by Tuesday november 2nd" so i was told but they did not know exactly but by the 2nd there should be one to fix major and heavy duty glitching freezing and system porblems with the game. if you have questions or dont believe me call their line 410 568 3685 and select the fallout 3 one. hope this helps
Sorry if someone else already responded - 30+ pages is too much to read...but you do know you can rescue those guys right? It's easy,
just use a stealthboy. The guards won't alert to you and the captives just walk away.
My problem was in the town where you got the quest, I'm like not going to let these legion guys get away with what they did right? Killed them all and became villified....then the game became impossible after that because with the weapons I had at that point they were just impossible to deal with. I had to go back to a save before killing them and just let them go. Hope to meet up with them later on sometime when I have a laser gatling gun or better.

Earl
That doesnt seem just retarded to you? Does the game even recognize that you freed them on a story level? That seem half assed to me. I figured I could interact with the 10 people standing around.

 Good news everyone we made our game less broken a week after release! No need for QA here.

So, how important are these factions really? I feel that I am hampering my gameplay because most of my actions are faction likes/dislike related and I dont want to get screwed out of a lot of quests because of it.

Your likability with the factions determines which branch you take throughout the game. You're going to have to replay the game and make different choices if you expect to get all the missions.

Actually, you really don't have to play through the game multiple times if you want to see the different paths. I haven't gotten towards the end of the game, yet, but as WSB has been saying, you basically hit a point where you have to decide what you're going to do. What you've done up until that point is meaningless. So, for instance, I have sided with the NCR throughout most of the game, but as WSB said, you can be pardoned by the Legion, thus giving you the opportunity to do their missions, if you want. So, if you want to see everything but not play the game 4 times through, you can just set up your saves properly.

As far as my problem earlier goes, I eventually decided to go back and play from my older save, losing hours of game play. It stinks, but I hate when a game bugs out, and I lose missions, even if they are not that important. Then again, I also hate having to go back and try to remember all the crap I did, so I can do it again. Boo...

For those that want to do the Helios One mission. DO NOT
Arm Achemedies and fire on the NCR. I did this, repowered the entire region, and got completely fucked. The NCR hate me now, and I got nothing from the other faction as well.

Figured I'd put down how I caused Boyd to glitch, so you can guys can avoid it...

When I went to interrogate the prisoner, I intended to make him die, seeing as it gives you a point towards getting Boone's companion sidequest to pop, so I could get his upgraded armor. I didn't feel like interrogating him, though, so I just went in and beat the crap out of him. After, I saw Boyd go back in the room and start talking to the prisoner, like he was still alive. Didn't think anything of it until I came back later and realized she was still in there.

Oooooooooh, yeah. Too bad I have to go back and get it again, though. It has pretty much become my favorite weapon in the game, which is no surprise considering A3-21's Plasma Rifle was my go-to weapon in Fallout 3.

And yet another interesting thing about the Boyd bug I ran into. As I said before, I really, really didn't wanna lose those hours of gameplay, so I was trying everything I could to maybe get her out of the room: waiting for a lot of in-game days, seeing if I get steal a key off someone in the base, etc. And guess what? I finally did get her out. I killed an NCR trooper that was walking by the room, and it turned her and only her hostile. She came out, and I ran. When I came back, she was no longer hostile, but I couldn't interact with, either.

I finished that last night... I saved before spoiler just to see the differences.... Did it and reloaded save and stayed with not having done the spoiler... :D

LOVING the shit out of this game i'm not into exploring every corner in games but this game I can't resist doing that for some reason. I'm 18 hours in and just started experiencing repeatable game breaking glitches. Mainly when in Novac trying to sell stuff to the traveling sales guy as he is loaded with caps. Every single time I tried to sell/buy his stuff it would lock my whole system up. Literally 5 times last night, I tried traveling coming back, following him out of town and everything.. I finally quit trying and went elsewhere.

My new fave weapon is some kinda crazy ass sledge hammer (forget the name) i'm destroying super mutants and everything with ease except for those damn Deathclaws... I have no answer except run for those yet... About to head to Black mountain and do those quests next.

GAME OF THE YEAR :applause:
Anyone else get the Q-35? It's pretty sweet.
Is that the one from REPCONN HQ? Then yup, it's awesome...just about all I use except if I'm fighting Super Mutants.

Without the dart gun in this game, Deathclaws are such a pain. My best strategy so far has been to team up with Boone and ED-E and just snipe them. I found the Gobi Campaign Rifle (very hard locker at the Sniper's Nest), and it takes down most of them in a two to three shots. So, if there's a group of two or three, we can usually knock them out before they even get close. I haven't even bothered going to the quarry yet, because I know that's gonna be a bitch.

I'm guessing I'm the only CAG that's had 5 hours of game time flushed down the toilet due to a bug?

It's making me stay away from the game, which sucks, because I played Fallout 3 for 60 hours and never had any files become corrupt.

Deathclaws are easy for me, depending on number of them, height/distance advantage, and the aggression of my companions. I ran into a pack of 5 and had little issues with them, other than Rex dying. Stood on top of a large boulder and kept firing the Incinerator and using a rifle. Took about 5 minutes, but it was worth it.

I love using Rex's incapacitated body to block doorways. It's helped me out so many times, I've lost count. I don't know what I'd do without his brainless carcass. Really need to fix him though.

But you get to use the EUCLID C-FINDER!!!!
But you get to use the EUCLID C-FINDER!!!!
Heh. You do, but it's so not worth it. The NCR sent rangers after me.

Deathclaws were a tremendous problem for me, but then I got a sniper and 500 .308 rounds, and I was golden. The incinerator does wonders too! Boone's probably the best companion in the game, even though he's the only one I have besides Rex. He takes down everything!!!

Also, what other nice weapons/armor/unique items have you guys found? What's the best weapon, etc.?
But you get to use the EUCLID C-FINDER!!!!
You can arm the
Archimedes II
without enacting the defense grid and
wiping out the NCR troopers
.

I'm having a terrible time finding decent armor to wear that's not faction-related. I got the
Power Armor Training perk from the BoS and started wearing a suit of Power Armor with like a 20+ DT from the Bright Brotherhood and now the NCR
is unhappy with me. You just can't win.

I did buy some awesome shit from the
BoS armory
, though once I finished their missions...got a
Gauss Rifle and was almost tempted to get the Gatling Laser too
. I wiped the floor with the endgame of Fallout 3 with that business.

Makes me sick though that I'm going to have to go back and
wipe them out...SO not looking forward to that fight
.

Wow, I'm such an idiot...

...I've been all hyped to get the Power Armor training, but you reminded me of the obvious: that the NCR and BoS haaaaate each other.

What an idiot...
But why would we select "Fallout 3" option?
Because there's no option for New Vegas yet I guess.

Actually no. I played for about 3 hours or so and got bored because there was not as much building exploration as the first game. I am despising the faction costume system, and when trying to complete a rescue mission I put no less then 40 rounds into a guy's face only to have him not die or lose any significant health. I am sure i wasn't using the right gun or wearing the right hat.

After that i shelved the game and put in something fun like Borderlands.

Relax...

Maintaining a favorable reputation with the NCR doesn't exempt you from being trained because they'll know nothing about it. Simply work with Hardin to exile McNamara then kill the Van Graffs as part of your initiation into the Brotherhood. I did this early on without any problems nor reputation loss with the BoS. Hardin trained my character then let her go as she damn well pleased.
I cannot increase my likability with the ncr to save my life. Did everything at mccaran, but they won't budge.
Did you find the NCR Embassy and do the quests for Croker? You can go pretty far with him and then they'll idolize you. That's what I did, and then went and followed Mr. House to the end.

Speaking of, game complete, Mr. House scenario. Sadly, while the core game remained fun, the endgame wasn't nearly as epic or entertaining as Fallout 3's. I kept some rollback saves so I may go back a little ways and do the Yes Man scenario, or a bit further and do NCRs if I feel motivated - but I really think I'm feeling pretty good about being "done" for now. I'm totally F'd in the A with Legion on this play-through though anyway, so I may just revisit the game as a whole once a GOTY edition with the DLC is released...and you know it will be.

Except that as soon as you put on the Power Armor you're dressed like a BoS member and will be shot on sight by NCR...

Rolled my save back about 30 min, picked Yes Man, got a slightly different ending. Hooray staggered saves. That one was easy to roll back and do.

I was worried that after NV was released I'd never want to go back and play 3 again, NV has had the entirely opposite effect on me; I'm thinking about reinstalling 3 and finishing up those GOTY missions and any other little missed goodies now.

Nope I am suffering from the now infamous "Come Fly With Me" glitch. I really hope they put another patch out soon. I wanna progress more in this game dammit!

Yeah, this is what I was alluding to. I know you can still obtain the training, but I am working with the NCR, so it's not gonna be possible for me to get the training and actually use the armor, unless I wanna not work with the NCR anymore.

I have a question about the quest "Oh My Papa"...

It says I need to give Regis proof that the legion makes slaves of their allies. I got Karl's journal that mentions something about betraying the Kahns or something, but that doesn't seem to bring up any new dialogue with him. Is there proof somewhere that I am missing? I think read something about a slave ledger at the Legion's Fort.

Have you gone to some of the outlying NCR bases? There's a lot to do for them. At Camp Forlorn Hope, after some minor questing, you can help retake Nelson. And at the Bittersprings Refugee Camp, you can help out to make the NCR's presence stronger there by requesting more troops at other camps and helping them find supplies. I'm not even at Camp McCarren yet, and I am "liked" by the NCR.

I've done a few, but I'll check those out today.

For those interested, my strategy guide reports 27 different endings.

Vault 3 is huge. I've spent over 2 hours in it collecting all kinds of trinkets. Trying to rid the area of fiends. So many decent repairable weapons in here, it's crazy.

Well, there are
4 achievement endings for the factions, and then they put in little narrated side notes for what happens to various people and places you've encountered along the way as side notes.

Well, I went ahead and bought a copy. Hopefully the rumor is right and the 2nd patch will be coming out in the next week. I've played a couple of hours without any problems, but if I start having any I'm going to stop until it's fixed.

At least I only paid $12.99 out of pocket, so if they never fix it I'm sure I'll get that much play out of it. :D

Yup.

6a. To obtain Regis' trust, you need to find him proof that the Legions make slaves of their allies. Such proof can be found in Ceaser's tent in his fort. Its a slave ledger that you will find on one of the tables in Ceaser's tent.

I would just play it and enjoy it, man!

I know other people have had varying experiences, but I made it through the entire game with only a handful of hard freezes, usually upon entering or exiting areas. The auto-save and saving often and in different slots helped me not to lose much (if any) time or progress.

I had one squirrely bit where I thought I lost my companions but still had their perks. If you use the wait function for a few 24 hour spans they'll go back to their home bases and you can re-recruit them, so that was no big deal.

I completely agree with Banky here. I'm having just as much fun with this one now as I did with FO3. The game is so deep, there's so much to explore, and so many side quests. I put 120 hours into FO3 and I can see myself doing the same here to a degree. I'm not having any crashing issues anymore luckily and aside from a few minor quirks, the game is fantastic.
Nope I am suffering from the now infamous "Come Fly With Me" glitch. I really hope they put another patch out soon. I wanna progress more in this game dammit!
I feel your pain, brother. I'm not going to play until the developers release a patch addressing this bug. Also, I was diligently saving my game every 30 mins. or so, but that doesn't help me much because every save file after a certain point in the game is corrupted. Even when I load the only save file that will load (one that sets me back five hours), every new save after that point is faulty.

Boo-urns.

Where is Ed-E in the game? Is it Primm? I ask because I would like to start his quests and get another companion but I must've missed him somewhere along the way.

Yeah, Ed-E is in Primm, in the Mojave Outpost shop. You'll need to bring some components to fix him up. 3 scrap metal, a scrap electronics and a sensor module, I think. I believe you can also try to fix him without the parts if you have a high enough Science score.

Encountered two somewhat annoying bugs:

1) In the train tunnel that you can use to get to the air force base, there's a room I cannot enter, because the floor doesn't exist. Whenever I try to walk in, I fall through the floor and end up in another part of the tunnel.

2) Every weapon that uses .357 ammo is glitchy. Sometimes, they work, and sometimes they don't. It also seems like when they lock up, I cannot interact with objections. Fortunately, it goes away in a few seconds, but can be really annoying in a fight.

I have an observation, too. To me, there seems to be a lot of locations on the map that are "just there," if you know what I mean. You cannot explore them. There's no real loot. They're just landmarks. I don't remember Fallout 3 having nearly as many of these.

Ok thanks. I think I will head there next time I play.

Where is the Greeter bot for the Strip? I have a pass and need to get into the Strip. I can't use the method from Camp McCarran (sp), its no longer available.

Had two f'ed up things happen today.

Repaired the cooks machine in Camp McCarran. Got absolutely nothing for it. When I try to talk to the cook, the game zooms in like it wants to talk, then nothing gets said.

Went through the quest in Camp McCarran where
you hunt down an NCR spy. Found out who the spy was, and that they had rigged the monorail to blow. Go to the train to disarm the bomb and EVERY SINGLE TIME the train takes off from the station before I can get to it. The train blows up down the tracks of course. Ugh.

Rolled back my saves from last night about two hours and was able to pick up the NCR finale. So, that was 3 out of 4 of the main achievement-tied endings with only a few hours of reverting saves. Well worth it. I was too screwed with Caesar's Legion from the get-go to roll back for those ones...but that's what a DLC-packed GOTY is for!
