FEAR / FEAR Files - Gen. Discussion & Info
FEAR looks like trash, I hope they don't expect $60 for that trash. I'd pay $20 max and I wouldnt pay $1 for a rental. MS needs to step in and tell Devs that they can't publish ports if there going to be that shitty.
It's a shame too because Oblivion and Call of Duty 2 were so amazing graphically... I actually ran them side by side next to a PC (before I got rid of the games on PC, PC couldn't really handle Oblivion that well) and the 360 actually looks pretty decent in comparision.

I was expecting F.E.A.R to look amazing because developers have had awhile to tinker with the system, but the final product just looks so much worse. I remember reading everyone saying the demo was crap and I thought they were just high, but no, it really was pretty bad.

I know it's not going to look exactly like the PC version but this is a travesty, it's like the dev's didn't even bother to try. I'm just hoping it was an early build and the final version looks alot better.

EDIT: Apparently people are saying the demo is a pre E3 build and the final version should look alot better. I just took this off GameFAQ's, so take it for what it's worth.

I hope that is true. I played FEAR on my monitor in 720p and it did not look near as bad as it did on my SDTV (I know it is not fair to compare, but FEAR actually resembled FEAR on the PC when using my monitor to display the graphics). If they include extraction point I might rebuy the game, but it will have to go on sale as I will not put down 60 towards it.

here is hoping that first it looks good/plays good and also to them changing the date. Wasn't it coming out the same day as about 3 or 4 other fps?

Yeah, it was scheduled for 11/7 along with COD3, GOW, and RS:V. Now RS:V is listed as 11/14, so looks like they're spreading out slightly.

I have a relatively mediocre PC and a nice HDTV and I didn't notice a huge difference between the versions (I only had the demo for each loaded). I haven't played the full version at all. What did impress my a lot in the 360 version were the particle effects and the enemy AI. AI is much more important than graphics IMO. I read a recent hands on that said that the two versions seemed to be graphically identical. I'll see if I can find that. If it's true, I'll be looking for a sale on this game come fall. Gears and Rainbow have higher priority for me due to multi-player options.

I was actually going to pick it up if it had Extraction Point as well, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't include it. The Live multiplayer might be worth it, but it just seems crippling to pay $60 for a year old port that doesn't even include the expansion pack.
anyone get it/have an opinion on the final copy of the game?
I don't think any store will have it till tomorrow. I'll be checking my TRU to see if I can exchange one of my B2G1 games for it.

Well they need SOMETHING to sell on marketplace later.....
Nah, they'll just release the expansion pack as a second game next spring. ;)
I think you're thinking of Ubisoft....

For those that are curioius, it deffinately DOESN'T have Extraction Point included, wich is pretty dissapointing. Oh well, at least we have Half Life 2 to look forward too. Those boys seem to be doing right with that game.

BTW, the bonus disc from EBs for FEAR, should I have gotten that when I preordered, or is that coming when I pick up the game tomorrow, just like the PSU soundtrack bonus?

I cannot wait to pick this up. Gonna have to hit up TRU see if they have it, if not, I guess I'll get it from GS and then return it later when TRU has it.

Yeah I can't wait to get it in the mail even though I beat it already on PC. It's such an awesome game! Any Fps player should deffiently play this if you haven't already.

Picked it up this morning on the last day of the FYE trade in deal. Im excited to play it but im busy with work, ill post opinions tomorrow when i get a chance(and i plan on picking up ff12 so thats if i get a chance )
anyone get this yet? or is it safe to say all stores will be getting it on Thursday?
One of the 9 EB/GS near me got it today. So I went there and picked it up. The others around me all did not get it for some reason.

Got it today. This better be the best fucking game ever. GS's shitty system charged my card twice, so I currently have a $130 copy of FEAR. Went back to the store and talked to some 800 # and suppose to get a call back within 24 hours.

This is one of those games that is going to be a PERFECT $30 purchase a couple months from now during a dry spell in gaming (althought the 360 heavyweights keep coming through fall and into winter and spring).
is it $60 good with store credit to purchase it?:)
Hell yes it is. Its $60 good Cash. I just played 20min multiplayer match and its amazing. I forgot what the match was called but basically one person contols bullet time, you take him out, and you grab the bullet time effect and you control it and everyone has to take you out. Its pretty crazy. Bullet time last for like 5-10seconds at a time and if you have it, you go at normal speed, and everyone around you is slow. Its bad ass. Love the ragdoll physics too. Gonna play some SP in a bit.

its worth it 2fast, I started final fantasy 12 yesterday and I came to a halt with this damned game as soon as I picked it up, lol.. the firefights are great.

The multiplayer is awesome! The levels are well made and the weapons work perfectly, there are no aiming problems like there was for PDZ, the controls are tight and no signs of lag or problems with matchmaking. This is definately a must buy for any FPS fan.

The SP game is creepy, the levels seem pretty long, like Call of Duty 2 but they do have checkpoints throughout the level. They have great atmosphere and scary atmospheric music, it really does draw you deep into the game and scares the shit out of you every now and then, but the firefights in between fill you with adrenaline. The AI is very smart, if you hide from them, they'll hide from you, they duck, dodge, call for backup, throw grenades, and have great aiming. The graphics don't seem too improved from the demo a while back, they did add textures to the game, it doesn't seem as smooth as it used to which is good. Get it for the gameplay by yourself and for play with friends.

I agree with everything you said. A great game and port. Looks better then the demo version. The game itself though seems like its going to be a tad short. But should have some decent replay value. The A.I. is excellent, so everytime you play you basically have a diffrent experience.

I wish they'd make a "For Pussies Only Edition" of the game so I can try it. The levels would have a talking carrot jump out instead of that girl, singing about how you should eat your vegetables and then break into a campfire song as you huddle around in a circle hugging each other talking about how you should say "please" and "thank you". Then after the song, you'd bust out the shotguns again and blow the fucking brains out of the group as they run crying for their mommas.

Played it last night, pretty cool so far. But Gamestop has charged my card again, so at $192.57 so far, it kinds sucks.

WTF? How do they keep doing that?

Good question. After buying the game yesterday with my paypal debit card (AKA my play money), I went to make another purchase, and it was declined. Went to paypals site, and saw i had been charged twice, 2 pending charges at GS.

So I go back to the store, and the the manager and another guy was there (who luckily are nice guys) Manager had to take off, and the other guy started calling home office. He got busy though, so I got stuck holding the phone and talking to a rep. They said they would call me back in 24 hours.

This morning there is a 3rd charge. Now a completed, and 2 pending. I know the pending will eventually expire, but I'm still carrying a negative balance, with eBay stuff that needs to be shipped. :bomb:

So far FEAR cost = :wii:

as much as i want to get this GoW comes out next week and i need my money to get that game instead, i'll probably be getting f.e.a.r within a few weeks though when there's a slow time in games being released
Any framerate difficulties?

Like 10,000 other people already stated, in the demo the framerate faltered when climbing a ladder.
Didnt experience anything like that. Played a 16 player match with absolutely no issues. No slowdown during SP unless you use bullet time :D

thanks for the impressions, I will be stopping to get it tonight, I guess I will use my eb credit, rather then a debit/credit card though

No frame rate issues at all for me. Been running smooth so far with no notice of frame rate drops.

Anybody happen to know if this will be a region-free game? If so, I'll prolly get it from Play-Asia (when they receive it) since it'll be 20 bucks less. I've been keeping an eye on their site and haven't seen any confirmation yet that F.E.A.R. is region-free. :whistle2:k

I love FPS games so I really want this one, but saving $20 would be great since there are a ton of games coming out during the holidays AND the new consoles as well.

just picked it up today with the credit I got from trading in my Gamecube (getting a Wii).

unfortunely I won't get a chance to play it until after work late tonight.

I've never played the PC version, so I'm loving this game! SP and MP both run smooth for me as well. Honestly after playing the demo I was gonna pass on this, but the reviews and extra credit at GR convinced me otherwise.

Was going to wait on this game because I have new Splinter Cell, Dead Rising, UMK3 and GoW next week to play. Then Gamefly shipped it. May have to buy this now too, since I can get it for $45 "used."

Got a chance to play this, its pretty fun and pretty tough too. Only played solo so far and having a good time with it. The AI is pretty smart too so its challenging.
