Field Commander, the next great PSP game? (OPM says yes)

I got this month's OPM, and with games like Daxter, Syphon Filter, Me & My Katamari, and Mega Man PU also being reviewed, I was surprised to see Field Commander as the PSP game of the month with a perfect 5/5. There's sorely little talk about the game here and it's coming out later this month. The reviewer is an admitted Advance Wars fanboy, and he says it's better by doing better in the few areas that AW doen't succeed at (online, story). I've been looking forward to this game since it's announcement and this is good news that it's turned out well.

Just from the review:
- If you like Advance Wars, you should like this game, as well.
- Online play, with the ability to play several games at once and no lag.
- Less dailogue than the AW games, but a more adult story and more realistic graphics.
- A useful tutorial and the ability to upload created levels for others to play (not specific about it being online or just for ad hoc).

Anybody else excited for this game?
 
But I already have Advance Wars, I got it for under $40 too! ;) I am actually looking forward to this. Yeah it is an obvious ripoff of AW, but shit I want me some more AW! Plus online sounds cool.

Call me old fashion or stuck in the past, but I don't pay $50 for a handheld game. I have yet to do so.

Yeah and just about everything else looks like Advance Wars.
 
Anyone pick this up yet, from the many stores who put it out early?

I just bought a sealed copy from a CAG at a nice discount, so I should have it in a few days.
 
I'm definitely interested in it, but the only thing holding me back is that the game has less dailogue than AW. Personally, I enjoy dialog sequences. I'm definitely going to try it out though, because I like AW (although I haven't bought it for DS yet, since I want it for < $25).

Um, no.

There are more varied units and the gameplay is a lot deeper.

And it is 3D...
 
So my boss got two free copies of Field Commander and I bought one off of him today but when I put it in to play it gets to the loading screen but wont go any further. I've never had any other problem with any other games, and I've tried taking the game out and putting it back in, but it still gets stuck at the loading screen. I've been checking other forums, and it seems other people are having this problem as well. Anyone know how to remedy it? Any help would be appreciated.

Perhaps you should dl a game save?
 
I got the game today and I find it fun. It is a complete and utter ripoff of advance wars. IMO it isn't as good as advance wars but it is still fun. I recomended it if you don't have a ds or gba to play the advance wars series. I however do have a ds and I am just going to play this to beat it and then I am going back to my copy of advance wars ds for my portable strategy.

did you try online?
 
Oh yeah this game is a serious ripoff of Advanced Wars, but I like it better! Much more to do with create a mission and being able to play online and down/upload missions.

Ill admit its a rip off but that doesnt make me enjoy it any less. It's a really fun game, my only gripe is there is really no "unlockable" material and you dont get any kind of rewards by playing the missions differently like you did with Advanced Wars when you got "graded' at the end of missions.
 
I ended up renting it and liked it exactly the same as Advance Wars, maybe more. One thing that really gives it the edge is the excellent voice-acting, that makes mission objectives much easier to understand. Also, it's nice that more than one vehicle can occuply a square, unlike AW, as long as one is air/ ground while the other is air/water. I didn't really try it online, although I signed up (I only rented the game). I definitely want to buy the game really badly.
 
Just got a copy off ebay and really enjoyed it. It is very similar to Advance Wars but thats probably a good thing.

Why is it that every PSP game I buy becomes bargain bin fodder except for THIS ONE, which I held off buying at release. Dammit, time for this to be cheap somewhere...

I got FC for $15 at a K-Mart clearance sale in January.
 
Neither of those prices is quite cheap enough ;). Though I would have gotten it at Kmart, probably, if I could find it. I'm hoping for a $20 or under price at EB or GC where I can use credit.
