Don't forget the other big Super Turbo update... the confirmation of a re-balanced mode!
I’ve mentioned it before as a possibility, but I can confirm that we will be putting in a new mode to the game. It will be, for lack of a better descriptor, a re-balanced mode. This mode will be optional for online and offline play. I will not go into the details about the mode, but the changes therein were taken from some of the best Super Turbo players out there. As you may or may not know, one of the principal members of the development team is David Sirlin. Aside from being an excellent developer, he is also a pretty accomplished Super Turbo tournament player. Talking to his buddies from the Evo scene (BTW, the Evo finals are going on this weekend in Las Vegas), he compiled a list of changes that they agreed would be good for the game. Just to be clear, this is an optional mode for online and offline play, so if you don’t like it, you can always play the classic mode. Even still, many gamers, like myself, probably would barely notice the changes. So unless this mode turns out to totally break the gameplay, it should make it into the final.
Nice post of the Mike Z video.

I met him at the MidWest championships some years ago.
He's just a quiet modest guy, but his ability to exploit bugs is amazing.

He taught me a bunch of bizarre and crazy MVC2 tricks, it was great times.
Now that's what I wanted to see. Looks really good. Now hopefully the animation will be where it needs to be.
oh hay, I took out sum of ur animation frames because MS decided to release a sku without an hdd:

Last week, I mentioned that some of the levels will be changed slightly, but you’ll still recognize them. As you can see, we updated the cars and some elements of the stage. Some of the people will animate in the game, but as you may have noticed, there aren’t as many people on the screen as there were in the original. Being that this is a download title, we have to find ways to minimize the download size. One of the ways we’ve come up with is to subtly cut down on the amount of animation in the background. This will only be apparent in some stages. Yes, I know some of you are thinking it, but this unfortunately means we will not be giving them extra frames.

One thing before I move on: this isn’t a screenshot from the game, but these are the exact assets we are using for the game and the same resolution they will be in the game. So the window size and placement of some of the elements may not be the same as the final. Also, you’ll notice that the casino in the background is called the Crazy Buffalo. As you know, it used to be called the Golden Nugget. But as that is a real casino, I renamed it Crazy Buffalo in honor of one of Balrog’s moves.

olololololololololl. Actually it'll be interesting to see if the 2 versions differ at all.

Or if there's a PC version since... y'know, I'm elitist enough to buy that version.

Yeah that post kind of sucked...I'm almost hoping they decide to release this game on a disc of some form...so they can go all the way with it. Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix Updated Animation version FTW!

Yeah, really. Seriously, I'm not sure why it's even a download game if there's clear limitations that result from it. Sigh...

They should just release the game with some ugly-ass stretched backgrounds ripped straight from the original. You know, to keep the game well within the memory limit. Then put out fully-detailed, fully-animated, fully-redrawn HD stages as a download content pack - for free, released the same day as the game. Problem solved!

As long as say, the PS3 version (with guaranteed HD) is complete, I'll be set. I was planning on that version anyhow because of joysticks. If both versions are compromised, I might have to pass.

That's awesome. I am an Art History major, but I don't read any art mags or anything like that. Just big ol' books with a bunch of dates I can't remember.

So what exactly does that VAST card do that the Swap Magic disc can't do.

didn't realize you were going into that. I am good friends with my school's art history teacher... it's not easy stuff. Alot of names and dates to remember as well as having to know alot of info just by looking at a piece... good luck!

haha, "backups." :D
and btw, just so it's clear, I wasn't accusing MarkMan of overhype... that video actually says "the greatest moment in PS2 history" at the beginning. :p

I lost interest in the video half way through, because it wasn't as dramatic as the author intended for it to be. So can somebody tell me -- do you still have to swap discs? Swapping discs is for $$$$$$s, but sometimes, you gotta bend over to get what you want.

gross.

you get the online stuff fixed Jim? I don't want you to be late for the T5DR party >_<

plus my thread on my sis making the art news cover has gone astray like most of my other threads >_

hey frankie.. you got anymore friends that play fighting games in that area? me and daniel were kind of thinking about getting some folks in the north bay together for some games in the near future, and thought it might be cool to have a friendly san rafael/santa rosa showdown. maybe a team thing?

if not that.. thinking maybe a local singles console tourney instead of shitty scandia.

To be honest, almost all my Marin friends that play fighting games are lazy as hell now. No one really wants to practice anymore, let alone practice stuff they usually don't play.

From what I heard, Dave still plays a ton of T5/T5DR and Guilty Gear from time to time. I think he recently got back from Japan so I can see if he's interested in throwing down against you Sonoma County guys in Tekken. His Asuka ain't no joke.

Let me know if you or Dan get anything going. I've met a lot of other SC guys that you and Dan know recently, so I'd like to get some games of CVS2 or Marvel going. I'm tired of my lazy ass friends that I'm getting to the point I'm looking for other people to play against now.

...and to ReRo...(regarding Art History) I have no idea how I got a letter of recommendation from my Asian Art History teacher. All my dates are off by at least 500-700 years. She must be crazy.

 she deserves a thanks for overlooking some minor details.

I'm kinda pissed but my boss scheduled me for late thursday... I was trying to keep that day open for some Tekken DR online all day, but I guess it'll work out. I already talked to my head boss there and told him I was going to be in late because I had alot of things to do...

on the note of work, I just came back from a meeting where we decided some changes in our store specifically... the cool thing is if you are put as employee of the month we can get any $25 gift card in the store we want... and we got stacks of EB and BB gift cards :)

yo yo~!!!

I jus looked up Evo results so far... I donno if anything is finished but top 8s are available:

http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=137391

Valle in top 8 both 3S and ST!!

no local doods qualified for 3S (unless Edma is from FFA?)

this one cat in the top 8 in marvel, fanatiq, is an old friend of mine! dood's always placing like top 3 at local tournaments, I knew he was good but I didnt kno he could make it top 8 at evo!!

it says Dark Prince beat JWong in a FT10 match, but Jwon was using RubyHeart/Ken/Jill lol!!

Markmang (or tekken zaibatsu) prolly has results for all those crazy 3D type fighting gamez

ahahaha, on behalf of fanatiq:

Fanatiq made winners top 8. He is using a ps2 pad with one button dash. It is allowed but he is getting a lot of flak from it. He did beat Erik and Wigfall in pre-tourney money matches with the pad.

and the follow up:

Why the hell would Evo even allow something so retarted as that I mean c'mon thats terrible. 1 Button dash???? HORRIBLE!!!

lol! makes sense tho...

but the funniest thing I read is Dark Prince getting out winners bracket:

WOW, demon hyo rapes dp first game, perfects him the second game, and dp resets the game before it got a chance to say perfect lol. This was all on the big screen. Youtube that shit!
OMG Demon Hyo raped Dark prince, DPC reset the game instead of getting perfected
ROFL

he RESET!!!
OMG!!!! I just read the D. Hyo vs DPC stuff. This shit is amazing. Evo moment #38 has already happened!
wow DP should not play marvel anymore. Not even casually. This is butt plundering rape at its best.
yeah instead he hit the reset button before the screen said PERFECT. It counts as a perfect. None of the two games were even close. Don't know how he beats Soo but can't handle Infinite's or D.Hyo's Mags... EC must be that much better...

I gotta see that video!

edit: video!!

VERY bad quality so be warned!

and while I'm at it, I may as well resurrect this classic MVC2 ownage!

I would LOVE to have Bison's stage as my wallpaper...
I think the Justin Wong vs John Choi matches are up on the operator11 site.
Word, you are right. I completely forgot that the site was being constantly updated throughout EVO World weekend.

I'm watching the matches now. Insanely entertaining.
So apparently the Hori 360 stick is out. Does anyone have it yet? And what's this I hear about it working on a PC?
It was mentioned a few days ago, or maybe a week or two ago, I forget... but it is the exact same stick as the DoA4 stick, and it does work on PC.

Yipes took MVC2, beating JWong. I want to see these videos.

Good to see Bronson taking 3rd in T5DR. He is definitely my favorite Tekken player right now.

Also I was rooting for Choi (BAY AREAAAAAA) to beat JWong in their "Best 3/5 in X Games", but JWong came on top. The deciding factor was CVS2 and that one really could've gone either way.

Ooo, Capcom plaza. Must try to go there if I ever return to Japan.

Also, haven't been following Evo, so thanks all for the cool vid links and general impressions. I really don't follow the scene at all, but it's entertaining to read about you folks' impressions.

I decided to fire up the PS3 yesterday, only to install the new HDD, get signed into PSN, and just test it out in general for this week. lol as soon as I unwrapped it, it was dusty as shit. It's a dirt magnet fo' sho'. Ah wells.

Played some Heavenly Sword demo (like a more confusing GoW, but sort of fun), some Folklore demo (hm, I don't think I like this game, but I need more playing time), and some GT HD (not bad, but you can tell some of the physics aren't there).

Afterwards, I'll probably just put it back into cold storage until I upgrade my TV in a few months. I gots my 360 and HD-DVD to tide me over for current gen gaming anyways.

DPC won 10-6 with Jwong who was using Rubyheart/Ken/Jill.

ppl were calling it embarrassing that you could lose 6 matches to that team, lol I wanna see those vids now!

One of my friends knows a guy named Justin Wong. And the guy is always getting asked if he's THAT Justin Wong, haha.

I did see THAT Justin Wong at... I forget what it was called... that tourney event in Philly in December. Kid was tearing people up in Magical Drop 2, on a modded Xbox. It was quite a scene, complete with some "Justin Wong" chants, lol.
So apparently the Hori 360 stick is out. Does anyone have it yet? And what's this I hear about it working on a PC?
Yeah I posted on page 6 of this thread that estarland.com has it in stock. The shipping was $10 which sucked but I had some credit to soften the blow. It will work on the PC as the DOA4 stick did.

While I'm thinking about it, some people complained that the DoA stick isn't great on the PC because it apparently can't register 3 simultaneous button-pushes thus hurting people that play Street Fighter as Zangief.

I haven't tried it myself but does anyone know if that's the case and if it's been fixed on the newer 360 stick?

There's a driver patch out there on SRK that fixes this problem.

Chac-- that vid cracked my shit up. What anime is that? Everything needs to be overdubbed with Terry Bogard. Everything ever.
