I never have money for EVO >_<

when I'm rich I promise everyone here that I'll fly the entire fighting thread over to EVO. I promise.

that Batsu player is pretty badass as well even though he keeps doing the same combo over and over.

on another note, KoF: Orochi Saga on PSP is set for a september release in japan. It's KoF 94 all the way to 98... damn badass...

also, there's a silly thing about MK vs DC >_<

Boon calls new "Just Frame" moves "Pro" moves... gahh... why is that the furthest your depth will go MK?

EVO2008, YOU MUST attend.
Hahah, if I can find a ride, Mark.

But no luck thus far.
it's pretty hard to get an adam hughes commission cuz so many people want one.. he seriously does a sick-ass job on his sketches, that it's worth it to try and get one from him. he kind of personalizes it for you, and usually tries to make them funny and/or slightly raunchy if you dig that. but yeah.. since he tends to spend time on his commissions, he doesn't do very many at all.

basically, all you can really do is find him at his booth and ask him. if he can't, don't hassle him (or any other artist for that matter, but you probably already know this =P). he also sells a new sketchbook every year, which isn't exactly a real replacement for getting a special sketch from the dude.. but hey, it's there.

i've always wanted to get him to do one for me, but i kind of just pass off on the idea every year and just assume i wouldn't be able to get one.

my advice for planning out your day.. list everything by priority, because chances are you're gonna miss out on a few things. this year, without having even seen the programming schedule yet, i'm looking to catch: at least a few of the daily sf4 tourneys and the final one, screening of hulk vs. wolverine and hulk vs. thor dvds, screening of the new x-men cartoon pilot, marvel discussion panels, dc discussion panels, various independent panels, kevin smith if he shows up again this year, kristin kreuk's sexy ass at the capcom booth, heroclix tournaments, masquerade ball, upcoming marvel movie panels (and most likely any movie panel).. all while trying to be at the right booth at the right time to score convention exclusive toys. i guess it's a bit of an exaggeration, and your day won't be super hectic, but there's gonna be at least a few things overlapping, which really sucks.
I know all about Adam Hughes' work. You could say that I'm a fan.

And I'm aware three of the mini busts are from the Terry Dodson line.

The reason I'm wondering the best way to go about getting a commission from him is due to this series of vids on youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aASqtfFGCys
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSfcziJ7PU4&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbH_APCdJc8&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzxbmUa6PX0&feature=related

The vids are old and are from a Baltimore convention, but it seems pretty nuts with people lining up before 6 a.m. I wasn't sure if this is the same deal at the SDCC, or if he just does commissions from a random sample of the crowd each day or something.

I'll definitely be hitting up a couple of those SFIV tournaments and trying out Blaz Blue, and I'll probably figure that DR tournament into my schedule if it doesn't conflict with anything.

I might make it to Evo this year. It's been a few years since I've gone, but I'll have to see who in the Seattle crew are going. Might as well put the time share in Vegas to good use.

Omg at the Tatsunoko x Capcom video, that looks so amazing now! (Minus the broken ass alex!)

And woooo casshern!

where did you read that at? and what are those?

http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/act...&part=rss&tag=gs_previews&subj=6193708&page=1
While the special moves are all straightforward, Boon and the team are adding timing-based variations on them which are tentatively being called "pro moves". For example, if you perform Sonya's energy ring move, and you can get a controller and button motion in during a specific window of time, she'll fire off a second shot in rapid succession. The goal is to have every special move have a "pro" variant. While not every character's move had a variant in what we played, we were very much liking how it all worked. Besides adding some depth to the combo system, the moves definitely added a new facet to combat we liked and should present a meaty challenge for veteran players to master for incorporation into their combos.
Totally gravating off topic, why wasn't SC3 liked? I have access to a PS2 this summer and am buying/renting it from GS. It seems good, but something just feels off. I don't know if it's me not being able to get used to the PS2 controller, or the game.

Most good people would say they didn't like the glitches; you can 22G after a guard impact, and you can 22G in the middle of the throws to do some ridiculous combos.

Most people who aren't good (IE the majority of SC players) just claim that there is a bunch of glitches and don't even know what they are. =(

I can go on and on about the stuff I didn't like, but more than likely only 2-3 ppl would understand what I'm talking about ;(

I hate SC players who think they are good. I always loved how my friends who barely played SC but played SvC2 and Tekken 5 alot beat the hell out of all the kids who considered themselves to be masters at SC.

I posted this story like 3 times in the fighting game threads...

But at E 4 All, the gaming convention that started last year.. my lil' homie n8nmonster won the SC III tourney and won an 80GB PS3 there. (I was sad I didn't get to enter because I wanted to piss after the long car ride while n8 hurried to the tourney area, by the time I got there signups were full)...

All n8 did was BB and 66BB_66BK mixups with Zasalamel. Shit was awesome.

One guy celebrated cuz he blocked 66BB, he stood up and looked at the crowd like "WHAT!" and then as he was turned around he got hit by 66BB again hahahahhahah.

n8nmonster went on to win the tournament undefeated. Then we played at my house where I 20-0'd him for free ;)

we need more fighting game stories..

here's one of mine:

forever ago, when xm vs sf became the new hot shit, i was at the mall arcade to get down on some games.. when i saw this girl i had been crushing on for a while. she was standing at the xm vs sf machine watching some dude (who turned out to be her bf at the time) play against the ai. i stepped up, said sup and made a little small talk with her, then dropped my money in to play her bf. i played his sabertooth/someoneidon'tremember team with my gambit/chun and proceeded to rape with basic j.roundhouse crossups, hella dumb otg's, and gambit launcher mixups.. i didn't know a lot of shit about this game at the time. but owning him with my scrubbery felt hella good. after it was done, it looked like they were gonna take off, but instead she dropped her quarters and picked storm/charlie. i was pretty surprised cuz i never knew she played video games, let alone this one. what was more surprising was that she owned me for free. i'd seen storm runaway a few times before, but this is probably the first time i experienced it first-hand. i think at the time she was attempting (and failing) to do that storm corner infinite i had also seen a few times, but never experienced until later on. then i got locked down and corner raped by charlie. when it was over, her bf told her he wanted to get food, so she said peace out to me and i was left alone with my scrubbiness.

couple years later, we'd become close friends after having a graphic design class together, and she'd always bring up that story. i told her i was crushing on her at the time, and she told me i wouldn't have had a chance anyway cuz i was too scrub. i still don't know if she was joking or not, haha. we started hitting up alpha 3 for a while when that became the new hot shit, but it didn't really pick up that much in our area. after that shit died, we still hung out but never really played fighting games, other than on console when we were bored at her house. i ended up moving in the middle of high school, and we drifted, eventually losing contact. right now, i have no idea where she is.

a lot of my friends i've met through fighting games.. sup frank!

The PS3 Fighting Stick 3 - Soul Calibur Limited Edition is decent for a cheap stick right? I need one for the PS3 and it's on sale for $42 on Amazon so I'm considering getting it.

I'm not that good at the game. I noticed single player is harder though for no apparent reason. I've read the game focuses more on aggression and all I've noticed the AI doing is guarding.

I'm thinking about getting a new fighting game.. what should I get?

Here's what I like in a fighting game:
(since most of my fighting game friends are out of town, I'll most likely be playing all alone )

 • lots of unlockables and secret characters, I especially like when the sercret characters are difficult to get.. like Devil in Tekken 1 and Roger/Alex in Tekken 2
 • 480p
 • Widescreen
My target system is the PS2. Some other systems I have are: PC (obviously), DS, Sega CDX w/ 32X.

Here's my list of favorite fighters from most to least favorite:

 1. Tekken 5
 2. Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold
 3. Hyper Street Fighter 2
 4. Street Fighter Alpha 3 (I really really wish MAX was out on PS2 or PC)
 5. Street Fighter 3: Third Strike
 6. Capcom vs. SNK 2
 7. Tekken Tag
 8. Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution
 9. Tekken 3
 10. King of Fighters 99
 11. King of Fighters 95
 12. other SF's, KOF's, Tekken's and VF's
So right now my candidates are KOF11 and NGBC. Opinions?

King of Fighters XI? The US version doesn't have progressive scan or widescreen (no PS2 fighter has widescreen, except for maybe Namco's stuff), but it's got hidden characters and is hella good. It's pretty fast... more similar to Capcom vs. SNK 2 than older KOF games.

Great stories MM and kristian.

My only story is me owning scrubs with my own scrub move of using Bison and psycho crusher/spinning heel kick spam. I owned so many people I just gave up and let someone else play my credit. Yeah, I suck lol.

this one time when I was young I was with my cousin and there was a best Buy close to his house so his mom dropped us off there so we can hang out.

They had a shopping cart in front full of free cassette singles so we found a box and put all of them in there so we can take home all of them.

we had HELLA tapes man... unfortunately the only one we wanted was gone... all that was left was the cardboard outer casing of Fresh Prince and DJ Jazzy Jeff's Summertime...

anyway, so inside the store they had the super nintendo setup for Killer Instinct and I was straight owning everybody on it!!

we drew such a huge crowd it wasnt even funny, and nobody could beat me.

and this one kid he was real determined and I did that move where glacius teleports behind you to uppercut you and got him in a combo... then I did it again but he blocked it and was like "I learn from my mistakes"

I still beat him tho... then when we got home we started playing Spiderman with the cassette tapes we got but got in trouble for making a mess -_-

I thank fighting games for introducing me to all you dudes up North. You guys are rad friends! Wednesday's FG get-together is gonna be tight.

So KOF11 doesn't have neither progressive scan nor widescreen huh. What about NGBC? Btw, Tekken 5 has both widescreen and progressive scan. That's one of the only games made after the year 2000 that I'd rate a 10/10. :]

So that's one for vote for KOF11.
plus NGBC is only good for random character love. The system in NGBC always felt super broken IMHO... plus comboing with Fuma is easy as fuck.
I do like random characters though. :] Also, not TOO worried about balance. I know that's an usual thing to say for a fighting game fan but I'm just looking for a little fighting fun, won't be playing 2 player too much. So, I'll take that as another vote for KOF11.

That's 2 vs. 0. Any other suggestions? Possibly any other good games out there? I really doubt it though. :\

On a slightly separate note... SF4 looks awesome. Is this an actual character in the game?

yes, and be scared of that insane happy trail >_

on the subject of SFIV, footage of Seth

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8JhrD3wguk

also info about him:

-- He's got Dhalsim's Hard Punch (stretchy arms).
-- He can throw Sonic Booms, including two consecutively.
-- He can Shoryuken (Dragon Punch).
-- He's got Urien's Shoulder Tackle as well as the Dive Knee, but he does it by bouncing off the wall and then flying at you... he can cover quite a bit of distance.
-- He's got the Urien/Gill anti-air elbow, and he can chain this into a mid-air sequence that ends with a Shoryuken. However, half the time he missed the Shoryuken.
-- His throw is an uppercut punch to the gut, which sends the opponent in the air, and then he jumps up and Screw Piledrives them to the ground.
-- He whiffed what looked like the Screw Piledriver animation twice. Maybe the "regular" throw I mentioned before was the Screw Piledriver.
-- He's got a Bison-like teleport.
-- He can suck you towards him and then attack you.
-- He's got the Gill standing Medium Kick...? The one where he's got a lot of reach...but if he hits you, then your character freezes and gets hit by multiple invisible hits.
-- His super or ultra... he fires a burst of air at you from his midsection. If it hits, your character gets sucked up into a whirlwind and then sucked into Seth's midsection...and then he spits them out. The air burst can be blocked and jumped over with the right timing, but if he catches you in the air at an inopportune moment... he will hurt you with this.
-- The first round he takes it easy, but in round two he turns up the heat big time.
hotness... man do I love the animation in this game.

http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/19998
Looks like it's shaping up to be one of the best fighters ever. I really hope there's lots of secrets/unlockables.. although Capcom has never really been to keen on that. MvsC2 was probably their best effort in terms of hidden characters (I think it had more hidden than default), but they were all too easy to unlock.

o man it looks like theyre roman canceling in Street Fighter -_-

I think I get to play that game on friday lol!

what is Soul Cali?? lol I thought u were talking about Supreme Soul...

I updated http://sdtekken.com with a bunch of content recently.

Check out the latest vids as usual... and something special. An interview with the last generation Tekken legend, QUDANS ! (look him up on youtube)...
