Sounds good guys, but I hope they still preserve the 2d fighting games, I'm just very afraid they may soon cease to exist.

I also hope these usb things don't lag to hell, and knowing madcatz, i'm betting the input will take a good 3 days to process. Haha, just kidding, who doesn't love MAD CATZ!?

I'm loving my basic T5 stick, especially since it's my very first one. I don't want to part with it any time soon.

I've been thinking of buying an Xbox 360 but I have questions for all of you that have the system on this thread. How is the controller for fighting games? Does the D-pad work well in fighting games such as Ulitmate MK3 and Street Fighter II?

The d-pad is pretty shitty, but usable. It's definitely better to get an arcade stick or something...

It's alot better for MK then it is for SF.

It's terrible for SF, but pretty alrite for MK. Definately usable.

PS: Totally off-chance, but anyone from ehre happen to be going to the Midnight launch of PS3 in The Philly area (the Cherry Hill one)?

I really wish they would patch the damn game so we can configure controls... :/

GEARS OF WAR THO!

Great game.

Virtua Fighter 5 come now!
halu102 has an awesome av

i don't even like guilty gear or baiken
but it just looks cool
That was awesome kain, haha. Random, but great nonetheless.

So what fighting games are you guys playing "seriously" these days?

I'm still in the GG Slash mode right now. Working on combos is just too damn fun for some reason.

I remember back when I had SF Alpha 2 for SNES... By the time I put the controller down, my thumb was throbbing red just because I couldn't do the hadouken on my crap controller. Sticks really are heaven compared to pads.

halu102 and Chacrana -- Thanks for the input on Ky Kiske. I've only used him a couple times the last couple days but he definately has that Ryu feel to him.

I've been making a serious effort to learn Guilty Gear lately. If I have a spare minute, I'll throw it on regardless if I'm at work or at home. I even bought some good friends a couple copies of Reload hoping that they'll try out this great series. It worked with Virtua Fighter: Evolution and DOA Ultimate. I had hoped it would with Guilty Gear but neither one of them has even touched it yet.

Not too serious on anything, no big touraments coming up. But I've been practicing a lot of Tekken: Dark Resurrection as of late... using Xiaoyu.

Wow, that is the epitomy of friendship right there. I wish I had a friend like you, though I don't have an xbox :p

I too am trying to get my friends into Guilty Gear, but I have to say it's very difficult. I believe that Guilty Gear is a niche game even to 2D fighter fans. Because the learning curve is pretty high, people at first do not wish to devote enough time to find this "higher level of appreciation". Why, my friend even has a perfectly good copy of GG X2 for PS2, but he has only touched it like once... I'm just tempted to steal it from him and donate to a better cause.

Glad to hear you're getting interested in GG. Once you can be comfortable with the GG system, you can watch youtube Ky combo videos and start to pick up more combos. You can also watch matches, and I believe one of the best Kys is Buppa, at least for slash. Well, he beat Ogawa the absolute king of GG #reload in the #r vs Slash match I saw. Also, dustloop forums is a very good resource for GG technical info and combos/strats. Although it's centered about Slash, most of the combos should still work and I'm sure you can alter some of the combos according to the changes between Reload and Slash. I still do these things because I'm still learning this in depth game.

Yeah, I keep telling my friends about this site and about certain games that don't get any advertising but it continues to fall on deaf ears. I find it's much easier to just buy a friend a game instead of recommending or lending a copy. It only cost me 10 bucks for those two copies of Reload at TRU so it's a small price to pay to get more people to play GG and have more friends available to play GG on Live.

I was playing KOF 2K6 for a couple weeks, just trying to unlock everything. Some of those missions are frustrating, even the easy ones.

I'm getting Neo Geo: BC soon. I've been dying to play more of that.

I'm really on the fence about modding my PS2 so I can play Slash, KOFXI, Melty Blood, and SSTenka. On one hand, I'd just like to put the money towards a PS3 but part of me just wants to spend as little money as possible until the inevitable price drop.

Anyone else ruin the D-Pad on their Xbox 360 controllers from playing to much UMK? I've ruined the D-pad on all 4 of my rocks. They're pretty much unresponsive now.

Don't think I'll be able to win the CAG UMK tourney with my current controllers but I don't really wanna buy a new one (especially since there isn't even a prize)

I was on Gamefaqs and looking at new releases coming out in the next couple months. I ran across a game titled "Guilty Gear Series" coming out on 01/01/07.

I'm guessing whatever this is it's incorrect, but thought I'd ask anyways.

i posted about that a few pages and Markman said someone else has the rights to publish GG in the U.S., I guess? It's probably just going to be GG Slash, since that's the only unreleased one here..and accent core is due later in japan iirc.

I believe Accent Core is supposed to come out decemberish? Well, at least the arcade beta testing is supposed to be done and the final version comes out. If the gamefaqs one is true and is referring to a US release, it'll most likely be Slash. But I dunno... Slash coming out after a little less than a year seems kinda iffy.

Anyone think that out of the Playstation Store titles comming out for PSP on PS3 launch day will at least include 1 RPG and 1 fighter? I do know that japan is getting Tekken 2... even though I played the hell out of T2 on my PS1, for $5 to have it all portable I'll definitely get it, being a tekken whore and all...

I'd rather play Dark Resurrection anyday compared to the older fighters in the series. That $5 bucks will go toward picking up Tekken 6. I'll be much happier with that than Tekken 2.

Woah, I can't believe I have neglected the fighting thread for so long.

If anyone wants to get some Xbox Live action sometime today just let me know.
I should have my HAPP modded SF:AC stick completed later tonight!

My bro is doing it while I'm at work.

Will post pics later (hopefully!)
Any chance he'd be willing to mod mine? I'm willing to compensate him of course.
Any chance he'd be willing to mod mine? I'm willing to compensate him of course.
No doubt about it. It's about 40 dollars shipped for the parts, you pick the color scheme, I imagine he'd do it for about 25-30 bucks(aside from the cost of parts and shipping). He's mowing the lawn right now, I'll ask him when he's done and let you know.

On a side note, GODDAMN losing in UMK3 360 is annoying! I lost to some dude who just abused the shit out of Sub-Zero's slide and blocked like crazy. He was decent, but I was someone who couldn't punish the slide (I don't remember who) and it made me wanna rip my fucking hair out. It's especially infuriating because I'm forced to play with the analog stick, because as I said previously all the d-pads are owned on my 4 controllers. ARGHHHHHHHH.

Nintendo really needs to do something, if Playstation games are going to go for $5.00 each. It makes paying $5.00 for an NES game seem even more ridiculous.

Yeah, but there's nothing like playing an old classic on the go :)
Yeah, but there's nothing like playing an old classic on the go :)
To be honest with you, I was never much of a Tekken fan until I picked up Tekken 5. We used to have a Tekken 3 machine near my dorm back in the day but I had a Sega Saturn. Why plunk quarters into Tekken when I could play Virtua Fighter for free all day?

no competition?

I didn't really care for VF until Virtua Fighter 4. I liked Fighters Megamix but that wasn't a VF only game. VF 4 finally dealt with the overt generic-ness of the previous games.

Silly question--- anyone play the Gamecube version of CvS2? I'm thinking of getting it, for the sake of convenience on the Wii. definitely going for a controller adapter for it though.
Yeah, but there's nothing like playing an old classic on the go :)
after taking a crack at the game a few times in the arcade mode of tekken 5, i have to question how much of a "classic" it really is. i remember when it first came out having a blast with it, but it's really hard to go back to older entries in the series after 5. except for 3. i can still play that game endlessly.

I never really got into Virtua Fighter, including 4. I did really like Fighters Megamix though. It was fun, but didn't seem like a very competitive game. Rent-A-Hero, BM, Janet and some others always seemed way broken.

If I remember correctly it's decent. I bought it for my brother because the only system he had at the time was a Gamecube. I remember us thinking it was decent, the EO mode is useless but that doesn't really matter.

Tekken 2 is a classic to me in the sense that Sonic 1 is. I have no real desire to ever play Sonic 1 again, but I had such a blast with it in the past that I really have to call it a classic. Same way with T2, now I just play it for laughs every once in awhile, but at the time it came out it was a damn good game.

So it's pretty much arcade perfect or close to it?

Yea feels close to it, I didn't play it TO much, but played maybe 10 or so matches and it felt good

There's no roll canceling. However, unless you're really competitive, then that doesn't really matter.

the PS1 version was nice though... partially because I loved the ridiculus endings and some of the extras (1st person mode was great actually).

yeah, I never really did that much before, so it's cool :) I'm wondering more about slowdown and stuff like that.

so I gave up on the ranked huntings on FF XII and decided to give KOF: orochi collection some attention. I was really rusty and couldn't even pull off Kyo's B n'B DM combo for awhile. oh well that will change soon enough.

What kind of extras do they have in the collection? And what's B n'B? It' not his HCF+K, K then DM is it? I loved cornering people with Kyo's SDM.

I remember about 5 - 6 years ago KOF 96 cost me $50 for Sega Saturn. Now you could probably pick it up for around $20.

that's the very same combo. I love it!

as for extras, it's the usual affair with the collecitons: arranged soundtracks, online play and color edit. that's about it for extras.

It's awsome when moves are made to specificially set-up a DM. Kyo's combo is a perfect example. It makes the combo look nice n' clean. What are other examples. I know Mark of The Wolves had a bunch.
no competition?
Nah, there were very few people around that even played videogames. And if they did play, it was Madden, Triple Play, or NBA Live.

I managed to find a couple guys that were willing to play VF and by the end of my enlistment, there were about a half a dozen guys that were good at it.

Tekken had a much larger following but it seemed the good players loved to embarrass casuals and anyone else that couldn't keep up. Another bad thing was that the machine was at a place that served beer. So you'd get all the drunk money matches and of course the fights that ensued when someone gets suckered out of a hundred bucks Cool Hand Luke style. I had a first sergeant that loved to take away stripes for fighting so I kept my distance.

almost everyone in MOTW had one! Terry had the cancelled powerdunk to either of his supers (dp+d a+b qcfx2 p or k), B. Jenet could do it from cancelling after her qcf+d and into her qcfx2 +k super (so it's qcf+d, a+b, and qcfx2 +k) both of these examples are very similar, but some are harder to combo into than others.

rock's is by far the hardest I've come across on the intermediary level, mainly because it involves the reaction your opponent will have. (qcb+ d(or was it b?...the fake-out rush), 360+p, a+b( tap it, dont' hold or else you'll get another move) then qcfx2+p) this one is really spiffy looking and one of my favorites in the game... also, if timed just right, you can replace the qcfx2+p with qcfx2+d and follow that up with a rising tackle (chrg d, u+p). it's around the 20 hit mark... actually I think a little less.

Just got Neo Geo BC. A gift for my birthday. So far I really like it. It's got a great cast of characters, but it would've been cool to see more oddballs from their various series. Just too many SNK poster boys.

- This is my first import game so will saving Japanese data on my U.S. memory card screw up my data. I did this with my Gamcube and I think it screwed up one of my memory cards, however it was a 3rd party Nyko. So that might be the problem there.

Nope, it is a gamecube only problem.
