Odd. Has your Gamestop switched to the EB POS yet, does the reciept look different then they used to? Mine just switched like a week or two ago, my listing from the new POS, but I am 110% it's the LE listing. What sku does your have?
Nope, I dont think that they changed. Looks the same like every other reciept I got everytime I bought a game.

SKU is 990056

Both that sku and the sku I listed bring up the CE on gamestop.com. Your sku is probably different from being in the old system I'd bet. We both seem to be good though.

Wait, does anyone know exactly what the Limited Edition strategy guide is for? What exactly would be the difference between the Limited and Regular edition of a strategy guide, unless the game itself has additions to the gameplay :D, which is probably just getting my hopes up...

There seems to be all kinds of problems with that Amazon listing. The game isn't by EA and won't be shipping August 2 either, at least I don't think it will.

A Limited Edition guide usually consists of a different cover than the original, additional artwork, maps etc.

Don't bother. Amazon will just go "we didn't know there was an LE even though we put pics up of the LE and misled you".

They did that with the "Beatmania Bundle" for $39.99 on release. "We didn't know it came with a controller so we can't sell it to you for $40." Then what the heck does bundle mean to them? Anyways in summary don't bother just preorder it at GS/EB.

Is it made by Square-Enix exclusively for EB/GS (ie. S-E designed the whole thing)?

Or,

Is it made by EB/GS exclusively for themselves (ie., EB/GS repackaged S-E's standard product with their exclusive bundle/goodies)?

I'm (guessing) that Square-Enix makes it, since they mention it in a press release on their web site.

http://www.square-enix.com/na/company/press/2006/0628/

I hope it is not like the GC RE4 CE, which was little more than a metal case around the standard product.

Hopefully, GS will post the actual picture of the casing on the website, but it probably won't be until September at the earliest.

Especially since there's a big ``Artwork not finalized / For Display Purposes Only'' on the bottom of the picture. It seems stupid for them to add that and not remove the `Collector's Edition' bit of the logo though.

they actually stole that pic from ebgames/gamestop website.. making me believe that if ordered it will just be ordered through ebgames/gamestop anyways..

EBGames/GS has a partnership with Amazon.com on game sales..

BTW: Square-Enix signed a deal with GS for FF12 being exclusive.. its square.. and the first ever FF CE ever, i'm sure we wont be dissapointed.

If Brady is publishing it, it's probably very similar to the FFX-2 and MGS3 LE guides. They're somewhat hardcover (not bound, more like a cardboard dust jacket), feature additional pages devoted solely to art (which is why I buy them), and sometimes additional pages in the form of developer interviews. The extras are not game content related at all. It's just something nicer that you won't want to throw around or trade in.

Or we might be. I looked at the site, looks like trailers, series retrospective and developer interviews. I was hoping for detailed making of footage, like Document of Metal Gear Solid 2. But hey, better than nothing, and one tiny step towards Japanese-like video game-osity.

Anyone, I'm going to paste something from another post I made in the trade thread for GS. I get constantly denied on trade-in credit 10% bonus towards pre-orders. On the upside, the clerk told me you get 10% off preordered games if you give them your email address. I was thinking about FF12 LE so that's $6 off. He said you get another $5 off the LE guide, plus 20% off the guide (about $6) for getting the game and the guide. So that's like $17 the game and guide, right? Anyone else hear about this deal?

Woot, finally switched my Valkyrie Profile preorder to FFXII (since I'm just gonna get VP at Best Buy or something with a GGC).

Preordered the CE and the LE guide, and my receipt shows the game as being "Co" and the guide as being "Li".

Do you guys think this will be like MGS3 LE, or is FF so popular that tons of people will pre-order this and make it not so rare?
Do you guys think this will be like MGS3 LE, or is FF so popular that tons of people will pre-order this and make it not so rare?
crap, i think its gonna be more like the later....guess i should cancel some of my preorders

question to anyone...if they release 1 million LE...is it still rare (ie sell for 100 on ebay)?
Do you guys think this will be like MGS3 LE, or is FF so popular that tons of people will pre-order this and make it not so rare?
It's hard to say... they only way we'll know for sure is if the preorder gets pulled months in advance like MGS 3 LE. You could preorder it for a month or two, but then stores were instructed to stop preorders and everyone knew right then and there it would become sought after.

If they keep preorders right up until the game ships, then it's going to be a worthless collector's edition like Halo 2 or True Crime.

I'm gonna get the CE anyways since I love FF.

Why would you buy the CE just to sell it for $100 on eBay? I like buying the CE of games because I'm actually INTERESTED in checking out the extras. Come on guys.
Why would you buy the CE just to sell it for $100 on eBay? I like buying the CE of games because I'm actually INTERESTED in checking out the extras. Come on guys.
Because easy profit is well... easy? Shit, even if it sold for $100 on Ebay, that's $40 profit per game for doing absolutely nothing.

The above quote is coming from a poster who frequently buys games just to trade to Gamerush, a little hypocritical don't you think?

I'm sure he'll come back with "Oh nobody cares about the games I buy to trade in" but I'm sure that someone somewhere cares, so it's a moot point. I mean cmon, no offense, but you're not exactly a saint.

aoLat, you got served!

I didn't even know there was a True Crime LE. MGS3 LE didn't really seem to have anything interesting in it, from what I can tell.
aoLat, you got served!
Shut up you.

And Roufuss. Touche pussycat.

I just like FF a lot.

Preorder it way in advance ;)

Don't wait until they cancel the ability to preorder and panic like people did for MGS 3 LE (myself included).

I will be preordering FFXII LE, but I'm wondering, should I rush out to preorder the LE, or can I wait around to order it?
I don't want this to end up like the MGS3:S LE fiasco.

I can always just put $5 down. Which I will probably do. As I have practically no money right now.

well i had heard, at the very least, that it's going to be "leatherbound".....no how they will be able to cut a corner on that remains to be seen....but yeah a picture or something would be nice, as really getting a good look at it is the only way to tell if i would really want it, so i guess i wont, since they clearly dont want to give me a reason to want it (the LE guide that is).

Honestly, the CE doesn't look very promising. It looks like there will be massive amounts of it in stock. Meh, might as well preorder it just in case.

I preordered a long time ago too, just in case, but I doubt this'll be rare. There's no way any newer FF game will be rare because of the popularity. They'll probably make just as many LMs as regular editions because they know the series has a ton of fans.

I reserved mine today and so I'm guessing this is the right number.
990056 Final Fantasy XII Li
They said it'd be 59.99 so it better be. Might have to double check though.

I go into GS and say, "Can I reserve FFXII CE please?"

Employee:"WOuld you also like to reserve the LE FFXII Strategy guide? we will only be taking pre-orders for that as well"
ME: *thinks* "Well I gues-"
Employee: "And since the FF series is so popular, you're gonna want to reserve FFVII: Dirge of Cerebus. that's gonna sell quickly!"
Me: "ummm *lies* I already reserved it"
Employee: :Oh....ok! Have you also reserved Crisis Core for the PSP?"
Me: "Chill dude! I just want one pre-order..."

I so wanted to punch that guy in the dick. But I know he's only doing his job. I came in for a pre-order, and I almost left with an empty wallet...-.-

Reason #9556849 why GS sucks. They basically tell the employees it's their job to harass customers.

Another display of why I will be purchasing the regular edition instead of giving GS $10 more of my money.

I traded in some junk the other day and applied it towards a pre-order for the FFXII LE, and of course, they ask if I want to preorder Dirge of Cerberus (even more predictably, I say no). Looking at the receipt, it's just puzzling when it says Final Fantasy XII only on it...as long as I get an LE come release, we won't have any problems. -_-''''

You should probably check on that. When I reserved MGS 3 Subsistence LE, the idiot forgot to put me down for the LE and you couldn't tell which one you had preordered from the receipt... I got lucky and there was a stupid employee that I got to give me an LE when the game came out, but I wouldn't want to take a chance like that again. Point is, next time you're there, make sure they didn't fuck up because they are liable to do so at any time when dealing with LE items.

Yeah, well my friend did it very shortly after me and made it explicitly clear which version he wanted to preorder. The employee even told him total it would be $64.95 (I hate the tax rate here in Denton). Sure enough, his receipt said the same thing as mine. I told the employee that I only came down to preorder FFXII LE, and he assured me that I would have one. I trust this guy more than that damn lady that tried to shoot me down the last time. -_- '''

On the plus side, Denton is one of those "small" towns, so I'm not expecting things to be terribly difficult; yes, there are customers in there, but nothing like the big volume at the EB Games inside the mall some 27 miles from here. Now that's crazy.

I'll just have to hope that I can pay the remainder of my preorder off by then. :p (That, and try to come early....or as early as I can go without having to worry about school)

Gamestop now has pictures of the final collector's tin of FFXII. Check it out!

Looks like this packaging is very simular to PS2's RE4 CE tin (tin-embossed boxart & overlapping DVD holders). This tin has surpassed my expectations.

Very cool!

$100? yeah right! It's gonna be going for like 200 or 300. Better pre-order 60 of them.

Made my pre-order at Gamestop yesterday. They better actually get some LE this time. I pre-ordered the MGS3:LE from them but they didn't even get any in stock at all. That was a joke. The guy working their called around and found me a copy at another store close by though. That was awesome.

That tin is looking good.

Ooohhh, tin?

TEH SHINY.

I actually preordered mine about a week ago. I hope this won't be another MGS3:LE incident. -_-;;

Hmm, the "10%" off email coupon the guy promised me arrived way too early and expires way too fast. Can you apply it to preorders?

I'm not sure if I should order this online or B&M.

I want this, but I don't want to get screwed like some people were for the MGS3:LE, so where would I have less of a chance of getting screwed?

I seriously doubt this is going to be a MGS3 LE debacle. That print run was decided by Konami. This is a GS/EB exclusive, so they know exactly how many copies they will be recieving/can make. And given how preorders for this are topping their sales chart each week, clearly they can meet demand. I'd still preorder as soon as possible since I don't think this will be a Halo 2 LE type thing where there's copies everywhere, but if you put in a preorder before they stop (if they stop) taking preorders, I wouldn't worry about it.

I agree with most of what you said.

Remember, this is a "Collector's Edition" not an LE. The only thing limited about this edition is that it will only be available at GS/EB. Like the RE4 Premium Edition (PS2 &GC), more than enough will probably be made to satisfy initial demand, and the leftovers will sit on the shelf for months before they are gone for good.

BTW, Halo 2 was a CE as well. The upcomming Gears of War also has a CE comming out. I don't think it would be a wise business move to severly limit premium editions of what is anticipated to be a blockbuster hit.

This year, other than MGS3 LE, the only other game I noticed tagged with a LE edition was Prey for the 360, and even that isn't hard to find.

Who knows how limited ARE limited editions? Only the manufacturer knows for sure.

To summarize, LE editions niche games like MGS3 Subsistance (I call this niche because this is a remake of a yar-old game that likely mostly MGS fans will probably purchase) will be truely of a limited quantity since Konami knew this wasn't going to be a huge seller, and didn't want to make too many. Previous anticpated blockbuters tagged with LEs like Perfect Dark Zero and Ultimate Spiderman weren't , and still aren't, hard to find because the publishers wanted to satisfy demaind.

I'll pass on this one -- this isn't a real LE like MGS3 because it isn't from the publisher (i.e. Konami or Squenix). Now if this was something that was announced, like Kojima did his version, that would be different.

While ppl complain about not being able to find MGS3 LE, I for one loved that -- it was great to see a LIMITED edition that was actually LIMITED. I hate marketers who stick that jargon on products that you can find freakin' anywhere.

MGS3 LE was awesome -- I hope Konami does more of that and other publishers follow. This one, however, ain't much to call home about.
