Final Fantasy XIII-2 Announced. Coming out 2011 in Japan
Thanks for ressurecting this thread Bigpimpin! I was looking forit earlier but couldn't find it.

I just got the game from the gamefly sale. I noticed there is a ton of dlc for it, any suggestions on what is good to buy at the beginning of the game? I know to avoid the lightning dlc until after the game.
If you're interested in any of the costumes or weapons, get them ASAP so you can use them more. None of the weapons are really better than the base stuff in the game though, just a little different. The costumes are totally cosmetic, no stat boosts or anything.

As for the coliseum battles, the Lightning/Amodar one is good for when you're about 1/2 to 2/3 through the story, since it's possible (but not easy) to tame Lightning that early, and she's an awesome Ravager who will help out a ton for the rest of the story and in the endgame. Plus, it's Lightning, come on. :)

All of the other coliseum battles are strictly endgame, you won't be able to tame them any earlier.

I used RAV/COM/RAV and COM/COM/RAV for probably 90% of that game. It's way easier than FF13 overall.

i remember an article on IGN where everyone was SOOOO PISSED that they had the N7 armor and were charging it and saying they were greedy and ime like.....dont buy it if you dont want it jeeze, its extra, lol, but you bet your ass i got the N7 armor, it looks awesome

I'm just about an hour into the game, so I haven't bought the N7 armor for Noelle yet. Still getting a feel to make sure I dig the game. But, I'd buy N7 armor for just about anything. I'm a pure sucker for Mass Effect and even have the N7 logo on my Jeep. :)

Good to know about Lightning, Ryuu. I'd like having her as the 3rd in the party instead of some flan or something.

Yeah, pretty sad that FF13-2 which was a complete mess storywise still had a better ending than the Mass Effect trilogy. I actually thought it had a pretty brilliant ending but it was very bold and unexpected, I'm sure others hate it.
Which boss is it again Hitman? I agree that "grind more" probably isn't the answer.

It's not the giant tomato flan is it? You're not supposed to be able to beat that boss on a first playthrough, you're supposed to leave and go somewhere else.
It's the boss you have to face right before you meet

Do you Paradigm Shift after every other turn? It will instantly fill your ATB guage so you can set off another round of attacks. It really helps out a bunch in the damage department. Having a MED monster could have probably helped though I'm not really sure because none of the boss fights I've done so far have gone over 1 minute. The longest one so far was about 50 seconds which doesn't even feel like a real boss fight some times -_-

To really optimize the leveling up of your characters, keep this in mind:
For large nodes, you receive the following bonus:

Commando and Saboteur(EVEN) +2 bonus strength

Ravager, Saboteur(ODD) and Synergist(ODD) +2 bonus magic

Sentinel, Medic and Synergist(EVEN) +6 bonus HP

So let's say you have a LEVEL 1 SAB, if you fill a large node which will make you go from 1 to 2(an EVEN number), you will get a +2 strength bonus.

Wish I would have looked this up earlier. I'm pretty sure most of my stuff is screwed up by now lol. I pretty much focused on getting their main role to 99 ASAP and not until I was in the 60s did I find out I should have been doing it like this. Oh well, the game is still a breeze so far.

Was doing some side missions in the Archylte Steppe and ended up fighting the four bosses. fuck was I getting my ass kicked. I had to fight the Immortal first, which I think was the hardest of the four for me. As I progressed, they kind of got easier but I'm pretty sure that was because of the insane amount of CP they give you after fighting each one for the first time. I had almost forgot the importance of setting up your Paradigms correctly for tough fights like this. It was pretty awesome once I got the hang of it.

I understand people who don't like the departure of the old style final fantasy games

but i have to say x-2 is really really fun and inventive, even doing the action cut scenes was new to me, and fun like i said, i understand the want for a throwback final fantasy

but i think people make up their mind to early cause im REALLY enjoying this game.

I agree, I have been having a lot of fun with this game. I really like it a lot. I liked the first one a lot, too. I'm not really sure which one I like better though. The fact that you only have Noel and Serah as actual party members and your third has to be a monster is kind of eh to me.

A thing that REALLY got on my nerves in this game was the Paradox puzzles. The Clock ones specifically. They took it too far towards the end with the side quests. You can pretty much tell they were just throwing those in there to extend the game a bit.

The cinematic actions were pretty cool and the Live Scenes are alright too. Some of the choices seriously made me laugh which is always good.

I'm at the last chapter but I'm not going to complete the story just yet. I still have a couple of things to finish up before I go on. Hopefully I'm not as disappointed with the ending as everyone else.

I actually loved the ending. :D

I liked XIII a lot better overall though. As you say, the party being limited to Serah, Noel, and a monster was something I was lukewarm on. I think having Lightning as the monster and just never switching her out actually improved my experience a lot. :) And yes, the paradox resolution puzzles get extremely frustrating toward the end, if you do all of the optional ones.

Welp, I finished the story. I thought they did a very good job with it as well. I understand they left a lot out there and I'm ok with that. It's almost certain that they will make a XIII-3

Now I'm left to finish the Paradox endings as well as fill out my bestiary. I'm still undecided if I should get the Lightning Requiem of the Goddess DLC or just watch it on Youtube. From what I've read is that it's just one battle with a bunch of cutscenes. I should be done in time to get to the Extended Cut for Mass Effect 3 on Tuesday ;)

You're probably already past it now, but I got stuck there too.

Then I went back to the ruins and took the other gate and just took that path and later went back and that boss was a pushover.

I just bought it last night and it really wasn't worth it. It's one long, repetitive battle, with only a few minutes of cutscenes. The ending's kind of "important," I guess, but getting to it will probably take 1-2 hours of repeating the same battle.

Yeah, I just decided to watch it over Youtube instead. It looked alright but the guy that was playing it took 15 minutes to kill the Chaos Bahamut and like 10 minutes to kill Caius. I tend to lose my patience once they drag on that long.

I ended up with 56 hours to get the 1000. It was definitely shorter than the first one but I still felt satisfied overall with it. The first one took me 75 hours and it had a lot more grinding involved. This one actually had me doing a lot of different things so that was a plus.

I will definitely buy XIII-3 if they are indeed going in that direction. It makes sense that they will because there is still a lot they can do with it IMO. I really like what they did with these two installments and just roll my eyes when I hear people say "FF X was the last good one." lol. XIII-2 definitely goes up there as one of my favorite games this gen.
