Firefox 3 Out Today! Yes! No More Ram Munching!

OK, I decided to give firefox 3 another chance. Here's hoping my issues of slowdown while having multiple tabs goes away, and that the screen tearing while scrolling goes away, too.
Could someone please tell me where I can get firefox 2.5? Pretty please? I've tried all of the "older version" sites, but all they had was 2.0.0.14. Thanks for any help. Being relegated to using IE for now...
Was there a 2.5? I can't even remember. Mozilla's FTP doesn't show it ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/

Have you tried downloading 2.0.0.14 and then running the "check for updates" within the browser?
For some reason Firefox 3 made my mouse scroll (rolling the middle wheel) VERY slow
I "upgraded" Vista to SP1 and that fixed it. Strange.

Installed Firefox 3 a few hours ago, it feels way faster and it appears to be using a lot less memory. I have had like 20 tabs open in the past hour and the memory usage has not crept up like it usually would.

Fantastic update.

It did the "ever-increasing RAM munch" thing to me yesterday.

A little disappointing.

Otherwise it does seem a little faster and better overall.

I like it so far. Definitely seems faster, though it could be the new router my mom installed the same day. I've had it since a few hours after it launched. It hasn't freezed up on me yet like FF2 had a bunch of times (knock on wood). I really hate the awesome bar, thanks for the guys with the link to the old bar, much better.
Wtf, I'm getting pissed. I can't read a single thing. I may just switch back to FF2.

hold ctrl and roll the mouse scroll wheel up. that should do it.
What's an awesomebar?
Death. Pestilence. The worst shit Firefox has ever added. A conscious attempt by the Firefox developers to ruin my browsing experience.
What's an awesomebar?
It's basically autocomplete on steroids. Type in cheapassgamer.com in the address bar and it'll suggest any of the threads you've posted in recently, for example.

So it's like autocomplete on steroids + autosuggestion.

Also, it's screaming LOOKATMELOOKATMELOOKATMELOOKATMELOOKATMELOOKATMELOOKATMELOOKATME over and over and over.
You would.
What's that supposed to mean? : <

But seriously, what's the problem? If I forget the website, just typing something in the title (big cat, porn japan old, etc.) and it pops up. That's hot.

I've been using the beta for about 3 months now so the full release isn't all that different and it's still great.
I can't believe how many people in here hate the Awesomebar. I love the thing!
Yeah I've gotten used to it after a couple of days and it seems to work well now that it's begun learning which sites I go to most often after typing the few key letters. Some folks just don't like change I guess.

But I still agree with some folks who stated that there should have been an option to switch between the Awesome Bar and the FF2 one since having choices never hurts and everybody (usually) wins.

I thought it was just me, but the font does seem a lot harder to read. I've been doing the ctrl+scroll more than ever.

Yeah this is bad,

On closing 3 is loading my CPU 100% and the temp of course spikes up like hell. The firefox.exe process isn't terminated until after a long while.

Upon reading the mozillazine forum it seems a few are having the same problem although I haven't found a solution yet unfortunately...

system spec:
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ (single core)
2gb of PC3200 DDR
8800GT 512mb
SB Audigy 2 ZS
Windows XP SP2

:EDIT: Hmm this might have somthing to do with corrupt lock files...

I had the same thing happen, sans the temp spike (but then again, I didn't look, so who knows). In retrospect, I'm thinking that I should have stayed with FF2 until a few more of the bugs got worked out.

Thanks! This would happen sometimes in FF2 but would stop once you close the window. I guess in FF3 it saves the page size.

Hm, not for me

I'm not sure if anyone else is experiencing this but say I click on "User CP" at the top of CAG. When it loads the little icons that show you have posts in a thread and the icon for go to newest post will actually say "You have 3 posts in this thread, last today" and "Go to first new post" and then change into the icons. Other sites do this too. Anyone have this happen?

Sounds like it's just displaying the alt text before the images load. If you mouseover the images you'll see the same text.

Just noticed a really useful hotkey that I don't think was in FF2: Shift-cmd-T or shift-ctrl-T to open the most recently closed tab. I use that pretty often so it's great not having to go to the menu anymore.

Yeah thats what it is doing. Its annoying.

Anyone using Firefox 3 on Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy)? My fonts are terribly unreadable; I'm seeing if anyone else has this problem.

Finally downloaded it and very underwhelmed. It's looks like all they did was make the same browser incompatible with any good theme and add-on. It's no faster than Firefox 2 and moves like a snail compared to opera 9.5. Must be nice to be so overrated

Mine were too, when I had it. I had to magnify the font for some sites and bring it back down for others. Never figured out why it made the text so small. It was especially bad on CAG and other message boards.

Seriously. Opera is kicking Firefox's ass all over the place right now, but it's not as trendy as Firefox, or rather, not as many people know about it. Bleh.

TabMix+ is acting autistic right now. If you have it set to go to the right when closing tabs and you close the last tab, it'll swing around to the first tab on the left. Sometimes if you close a tab in the middle it'll jump to the tab you opened that from. Setting it to Last has it go to the last tab you opened, even though it's supposed to go to the last tab on bar and theres a Last Opened setting that does the same thing.

Also, not only did they NOT fix alt+s, they broke the fix that worked in 2.0. fuckers.

That was in Firefox 2 as well. It's a good shortcut to know. I use it all the time.

I posted about the problem on Slashdot, hoping some uber-Linux geek would suggest a fix, and I got modded -1 troll. Figure.

I haven't experienced any problems at all, well two of my extensions are not compatible.

Also, why use hotkeys and such? I find it much easier to just click on the mouse scroll wheel on tabs to close them. ;)
Also, why use hotkeys and such? I find it much easier to just click on the mouse scroll wheel on tabs to close them. ;)
Hotkeys on a laptop are pretty necessary, for me anyway.

Also, if you're still having problems with FF3, just use something that works until they release a few fixes for F3. There's a reason F2 won't push you for an upgrade yet.
