Forget Zen Davis. It's now the "Vader Time" appreciation thread.
The thing with Big Show trashing Brodus and Cena is that he was kinda right. It's not good booking for a heel to make sense when they're upset about something - you can't really genuinely boo someone who has a legitimate gripe.
Agreed, look at the Punk/Jeff Hardy storyline from 09. Didnt make sense when Punk looks more like the face (except for the cheap shots and the "eye injury") and Hardy looked like the heel but it ended up being a great storyline.

Breaking news out of Stamford:

"STAMFORD, Conn. – In accordance with its Talent Wellness Program, WWE has suspended Randy Orton for 60 days effective today for his second violation of the company's policy."

I'm pretty sure that this is actually his third violation. He should be gone. He's currently under contract until 2017.

/edit: This is why I love Reddit:

On April 4, 2006, Orton was suspended for sixty days for "unprofessional conduct." In an interview, Orton stated, "my conduct was unbecoming of a champion, which is what I will be again when I return." To cover for the suspension, a faked injury was devised, where Kurt Angle broke Orton's ankle during a grudge match. In July, Orton said his suspension resulted from smoking marijuana backstage.

In August 2006, he was suspended for 30 days for his first violation of the company's drug testing policy — reportedly due to a drug test failure.

So, technically, one previous wellness violation.
According to Dave Meltzer under the new WWE guidelines Orton will only be taken off of house shows. He will still be on TV and PPV.
That seems like more of a reward than a punishment.

Guess the bright spot to this is that WWE doesnt have to figure out who Orton had to face at NWO considering it was looking like it was gonna be Jericho/Orton.
That seems like more of a reward than a punishment.
About to say that. The hell kind of punishment is that?

They should have someone "take him out" to write him off television and make him disappear for at least 30 days without pay.

It'd be a decent push for an upcoming heel, for sure.

I can't remember if it was late WCW or TNA (they both blend so well ) but that reminds me of when guys would be suspended with pay. In my mind, i wanna say it was guys like Hall and Nash, which doesn'thelp my WCW or TNA dilemma.

'Twas WCW, where some talent sat home while collecting a paycheck. There's actually a funny associated term that escapes my present mind.
That seems like more of a reward than a punishment.
Seriously. It's like a mini summer vacation. He's probably already planning what he's going to do around the first of August so he can have 90 days off of house shows. Quite the locker room leader.
Nice to see they're still using the kiddie gloves handling Orton...
For real. The wellness policy never so overtly had a 'protected class' until now (even if it seemed that way before.)

Didn't Kevin Nash book himself to lose a retirement match just so he could get paid for sitting on his ass at home?

Ziggler, damn IT! It makes perfect sense, but that's why it won't happen.

I'm pretty sure Meltzer's full of garbage.

- Randy Ortons's 60 day suspension for his second violation of the WWE Wellness Policy goes into full effect today. This means the suspension will end as of midnight on Sunday, July 29th, causing Orton to miss June 17's No Way Out pay-per-view and July 29's Money In The Bank pay-per-view. The first televised event he will be eligible to return to, will be on the July 30 RAW Supershow from Cincinnati, OH.

Regardless of the terms of the current suspension I'm really looking forward to Orton's next offense to see if he will actually be fired. (That is the punishment for strike three, correct?)

It should be unless it's cannibus or alcohol. From the WWE Corporate page, Section 15.A "For Positive Drug Tests Other Than Marijuana or Alcohol"

Third Violation: In the event of a third positive test for substances prohibited by this Policy other than marijuana and alcohol, the WWE Talent's contract with WWE will be terminated and WWE will publicly disclose the WWE Talent's name and that WWE Talent's contract was terminated for a third violation of the Policy.

...

In addition, a WWE Talent, who is terminated by the WWE for a third violation of the Policy, will be prohibited from returning to the WWE for at least one (1) year. If a WWE Talent, who is terminated for a third violation of the Policy, is permitted by the WWE, in its sole discretion, to return to the WWE, then (1) such WWE Talent must test negative for all prohibited substances under this Policy during the pre-contract screening process; (2) such WWE Talent will return to the WWE with a first and second violation of this Policy against his/her record; and (3) such WWE Talent must undergo the mandatory unannounced follow-up testing set forth in Section 8 C (1) of the Policy for a period of at least one (1) year after execution of his/her new contract with WWE.

So basically if Orton fucks this up, he's out for the year. Then once the 365 days have elapsed, they run the Orton hype machine into overdrive and pray to deities across the spectrum that he doesn't test positive again.

Well...actually they'll probably put on the kiddie gloves again and "fire" him and give him a "Guest Co-GM of the Week" position for 52 weeks. Yeah...that's what my money is on if this goes down.

Orton is a dope. Honestly, without being a particularly compelling guy, he's basically the number 2 face of the biggest prowrestling company in the world.

Whut da hell?!

Anyone who thinks that WWE actually enforces their wellness policy, you're a mark.
Oh, you misunderstand. Of course I don't believe they enforce their wellness policy. I was just curious as to what people thought were his best matches, because the only one that sticks out to me is the one with Foley. SO I was wondering if there were any good ones I missed.
Number one is him vs. Foley for the IC title at.... something in 2004. Amazing match. After that, meh.
His showdown with the Holiday Inn is number one for me. That RKO on the TV was amazing.

Oh, yoinks. I can see how you misread my post. I was laughing *at* your post because it was humorous, then making a side point about WWE's enforcement. Not necessarily laughing as a display of snark towards your post.
Top 5 Orton matches?
1. The one where he grimaces
2. The one where he looks like a gargoyle
3. The one where he does a weird grin
4. The one where he does a powerslam
5. The one where he poops in a gym bag

1. vs. Foley
2. When he threw a box at David Otunga that one time.
3.???
4.???
5.???

I wonder when they actually found out about the violation - seems convenient that he was suspended so soon after they decided that Jericho would be gone for a month.

Dixie Carter's big announcement is that the first inductee to the TNA Hall of Fame will be announced at the next PPV.

I've unfortunately already met my daily joke quota, so someone else will have to take this one.

I think I skipped over a tweet that said Sting has a title match against (I'm going to say) Bobby Roode at this(?) weekend's PPV. Odds that Sting wins title and is inducted into the "Hall of Fame" on the same night?

Jeff Jarrett would be a good bet. Personally, my vote goes to Cheex.

Oh ok. It's cool :)

Also, I've gathered from the responses that the match vs. Foley at Backlash 2004 is the only great Orton match. How in the world did the man become the company's #2 guy when a) it seems like he's a jerk in real life and b) he's only ever had one truly remarkable match?

Hey kid, I'm Pat Patterson, turn and cough.

Where does the match where Orton knocked out Evan Bourne by doing The Worm on this back rank?

I didn't even realize that was Beth Phoenix.

Is there a diva he hasn't slept with?

For that matter, is there a diva that hasn't hooked up with a wrestler?

That's why I said "maybe."

Anyway, I'm liking that Doink shirt up on BSW, that may be the first shirt I purchase for myself from there ("Rip 'Em" for my brother would be the first).
