If you use the code GIMAG on theeca.com (found in an article of the new Crackdown GI issue), you can receive a free, full 1 year membership (I think it's only for new accounts). You do need a credit card to sign up, but if you cancel before the 1 year is up, you won't be charged. This is a great deal for the free amazon discount. Be sure to use the coupon soon, because the article doesn't mention the expiration for the coupon.

Enjoy guys!
dallascowboys

P.S. Now all of CAG can have an ECA membership!

Also, after you enter your CC number and the coupon, the page after lets you check everything before you submit your order. That way you know that the coupon worked and you won't be charged.

LinkinPrime Edit:

Check your spam filters for the confirmation link, if you signed up for the newsletter you will get 2 emails, one for the newsletter and one for the membership. For some reason the newsletter one showed up in my inbox and the membership was in my junk mail folder, so keep an eye out.

You weren't kidding. Ok I found this on page 28. All credit goes to jacknicklson for the original faq (1-6).

ECA/Amazon FAQ

1. I can't get into the member's area/can't find out where to pay. Help!

After the initial registration email, you should receive a second email linking you to a payment page. You can request that this email be resent if need be. Make sure to check your junk/spam folders as well.

2. Will this work on consoles?

No. Games and most accessories only. Physical point cards are also eligible, but not digital point codes.

3. Do these work on Quick Picks/Deals of the Day/Trade-in Coupons?

Yes, Yes, and Yes!

4. How do I get my Quick Picks to show games?

http://betterelevation.com/2009/02/1...old-box-trick/
This should be a basis to get it to work for whatever you are interested in. It is not a science though so be persistent.

5. Does this work on Pre-orders?

Yes, it does. The price will also automatically take off 10% of whatever the final selling point is due to the Pre-Price Guarantee that Amazon offers.

6. I have heard that these offers have expired/been removed, is this true?

There have been a few instances where codes expired or they ran out but The ECA and Amazon have usually rectified the situation within a week or so. Also, the Terms of Service state that any membership benefits can change or be canceled without any notice so keep that in mind when signing up.

7. Double and Triple stacking

This is no longer possible. Don't bother trying. Originally when the ECA would run out of codes and switch to a new batch members were able to stack codes. A glitch in Amazon's system would keep older codes in your account, and it was possible to add codes from the newer batches to obtain more than 10% off. Amazon found out about this, hence the reason the codes are currently down/ being worked on.

8. Begging/Asking for codes

This is not allowed. If you beg/ask for a code you will be permabanned. No questions asked.

9. Selling codes

Definitely a big no no. If you do this, you will get reported to the ECA and your account will be shut down.

10. If I make a pre-order with a code a cancel it, will the code still work?

Yes. Codes should remain in your account but again they will no longer stack. It is one code per game. Amazon and the ECA are working on codes tied into our accounts but this option is not yet available.

11. If I already have a pre-order made, can I add a 10% off code to it?

You can not add a anything to an order once it is made except a gift card. You can try emailing Amazon customer support and ask them to add it. Generally they have no issue doing this for you but it's a crap shoot.

12. What if I already have a pre-order with the old codes applied? Should I be worried?

We don't know definitively, but chances are good that Amazon will not touch the pre orders we have already made.
The rules state one a day, and once you order one the others no longer display prices or an "add to cart" button. I've looked at my quick pick page on multiple pcs too after I've ordered something, and it's the same, so it's not something in the browser's cache.

Just right clicked and opened another page of "today's deals"

I added one item in one page and the other item in another page, both are in my cart and state a "special price", the same price in my quick picks.

While I can't say for certainty if those holds true after you order, others can, the price is displaying correct as far as I can tell.

I buy more than 1 quick pick all the time. Just keep the gold box page open, right click the Add to Cart button of the first item and open it in a new tab, and buy the item. Then right click the next item's Add to Cart button and do the same thing, repeating as necessary.

I'm lucky - I get almost nothing but games and graphic novels in my Gold Box, as I manage my "Improve Your Recommendations" page regularly.

I can add all of my quick picks to my cart, even after I preordered Uncharted 2, it's just that I can't add the points card to my cart, I have the button but it's not in there when I go to the cart.

I could manage it every hour if I wanted to, isn't changing my picks though. And it's not like they're related to past purchases either, atleast not 75% of this crap. Toothbrush refills, baby wipes, heart monitors, fertility tests, grills, electronic scarecrows and on and on.

Anyone know if you can use ECA with consoles? I am about to bite on the $179.99 arcade, but was hoping ECA would work. Looks like the codes aren't working on the ECA website though.
I'd say just order whatever you want is in your quick picks and call amazon later with a code(or cancel it before it ships if the codes still aren't working).

Holy fuck yes. I got Heavy Rain in my Gold Box Today. I ordered it anyways, I'm going to add ECA later. I want this game so bad.
How do you guys figure Amazon will apply ECA later? I thought their policy was that you couldn't apply anything besides gift cards after the fact?

Huh, never thought of trying it that way. Thanks! :)

I've been managing my recommendations for a while now but it hasn't really helped. I get almost all video game or video game related items but they are all things I am not interested in. Todays list:

Singstar Bundle
Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness
PS3 Bluetooth Headset
FFTactics (PSP)
Playstation 3 Charge Base 2
Resident Evil Apocalypse: Special Edition
GTA Liberty City Stories (PSP)
Daxter (PSP)

First time I have ever gotten more than six quick picks. Also, I swear to god I have checked Not Interested on about 5 other charge bases for Wii/PS3 and they still keep offering me other variations and I don't own a 360 and have never purchased a 360 or 360 related products but I get constant offerings of 360 games and accessories. The recommendations really don't work very well.

And I need for the ECA to get it together so I can preorder Batman.
I got Heavy Rain in my box. But I'm gonna pass, I just pre-ordered Arkham and Borderlands for $42.70/$48.60 respectively
why would you pass? Amazon doesn't charge until the game ships and Heavy Rain isn't coming out until sometime next year

My goldbox is ridiculous today.
It's always a bunch of games and maybe 1 cd or bd.

But today it's ALL household items that shouldn't be there.

Waa waa waa

So codes aren't working currently? I wanted to get my account on ECA, but if codes aren't working I might have to pass. Can anyone confirm if they are or not?

I want to get Modern Warfare 2, Halo ODST, and maybe Wet. And as such my ECA membership would be paying for itself immediately...but only if the codes are working.
why are the codes out of order when i finally get god of war 3 in my gb?! :[
i have gow3 and ff13 versus in my gb. i know they`re are still far from release dates but i had a few also i wanted to get. my fault for not just buyin them and apply the codes later

I called the ECA yesterday to complain because I had just joined and there weren't any codes. The guy on the phone told me to expect the codes by early next week.
Has anybody got Modren Warfare 2 in their gold box yet?
Nope. I've been waiting, but nothing yet (though I've had crappy items in my gold box the past few days).
They better be up before the Batman and Kingdom Hearts deals end.
and if not? want a tissue?

I really hate when people are jerks about this kind of thing. If someone just joined, I can totally feel sympathy for the fact that they aren't able to use the only thing they joined to get. How about showing a little compassion for your fellow CAGs instead of siding with an organization that is poorly run?

From wikipedia:
"Entertainment Consumers Association (ECA) is a United States-based nonpartisan, non-government, non-profit organization dedicated to the interests of individuals who play computer and video games in the United States."

Sucks that the codes are down now, but they aren't an amazon rewards membership or something and I think it helps to remember that.

The codes are down its shitty most of joined with the discount codes being the driving reason behind it, for most of us that's bothersome. But some of you people are just mean spirited assholes and must get off on picking at other people or something glad you have nothing better to do with your time your a real credit to the human race.
Bad news guys. I just got confirmation that they won't be getting codes anymore. . .

until next week.
and what confirmation are you referring to.. if you don't mind sharing the finer details...

Yes, I love comments like these:applause:

I mean if you wanna turn that tissue into a box of tissues. I would really appreciate that. You know with summer allergies and everything.
and what confirmation are you referring to.. if you don't mind sharing the finer details...
Haha, it was meant to be a practical joke the way it was written, but there's a good chance that the codes won't be up in the last few hours of this week. But seriously, a few people were stating that the codes should be up next week after talking to ECA.

Does the ECA usually run out of codes? I mean seriously. Does it happen once a week? once a month? What is the story behind them? Why cant your code be your membership id or whatever which Amazon verifies to make sure you are still a paying member.

Non Profits make bank.. dont get it confused.. the rule of a non profit is that the have to break even at the end of year.. so all have to do every year is invest back into the company ( employee raises, facility and overhead) and maybe give out a scholarship or two..

of course i dont know ECA finances but i know first hand from my gf because she is an accountant for a small nonprofit org and they are not impacted at all by this recession, they actually took in more money this year..

The first time was for an entire hour only.

I am going to order Batman because I want release day delivery. What should I tell Amazon once the codes are back to get it applied?
I joined back in June and they've only run out twice since. The first time was for an entire hour only.
This has happened more than twice and once it was down for a few weeks. I love buying from amazon, and getting 10% is awesome, but this eca keeps screwing this up and cant seem to figure out to how to fix this for good. I wish they would just be honest and say "pay us 20 for this memebership and every now and then we offer 10% for short periods of time"

Gr, wish I had stockpiled a few codes back when it was working. Guess it doesn't matter since ordering now wouldn't make my item ship any faster. Do hope it comes back tomorrow though cause I really want to order The Bigs 2 after playing the demo for like 4 hours.

seriously... why is everyone blaming ECA for them running out? For one Amazon is the controlling factor in this... they give them a limited amount of codes.... Two... well if you don't remember just last week there were several people mass selling these on ebay.... How many more days of codes would there have been without the ebay sellers?

Yes, I'm sure every one of us would love to never have them run out again... but I don't see how the ECA can be the first one blamed... after all they're completely at Amazon's mercy for these and have no way to make demands for either more codes at once or one time use codes.

"Formed in 2006, the ECA is an advocacy organization for consumers of interactive entertainment. Gamers represent nearly fifty percent of the US population and spend $10 billion annually on gaming, yet as a group are continually overlooked by both politicians and the mainstream press. The mission of the ECA is to give game consumers a voice and to ensure that elected officials hear their concerns and appreciate the growing influence of the gamer demographic."

"The organization, which is headquartered in Connecticut, focuses its advocacy efforts on consumer rights, anti-games legislation, and a host of other public policy concerns as well as providing substantial community, educational, and affinity benefits to its members—from discounts on subscriptions and game rentals and purchases to education, employment assistance, and insider access to industry news and events."

Yeah it sucks that the codes are down but their real mission is more important than that 10% off amazon code. Just because they give you some benefits doesn't mean that your always entitle to it.
It would be AWESOME if they got more in before the end of the day, as I have Heavy Rain in my gold box today.
It's Saturday, so I'm guessing not. I wouldn't expect it to be resolved before Monday.
It would be AWESOME if they got more in before the end of the day, as I have Heavy Rain in my gold box today.
order it now... then email amazon CS with a code and ask them to apply it next week.... very good chance of 'em doing it.... if they don't wait a day and email again... etc
I am going to order Batman because I want release day delivery. What should I tell Amazon once the codes are back to get it applied?
Please apply promotional code xxx to my order #yyy. There's a way to pick an item to email them about though so I usually say "to this preorder." Never a problem, with preorders anyways.
