If you use the code GIMAG on theeca.com (found in an article of the new Crackdown GI issue), you can receive a free, full 1 year membership (I think it's only for new accounts). You do need a credit card to sign up, but if you cancel before the 1 year is up, you won't be charged. This is a great deal for the free amazon discount. Be sure to use the coupon soon, because the article doesn't mention the expiration for the coupon.

Enjoy guys!
dallascowboys

P.S. Now all of CAG can have an ECA membership!

Also, after you enter your CC number and the coupon, the page after lets you check everything before you submit your order. That way you know that the coupon worked and you won't be charged.

LinkinPrime Edit:

Check your spam filters for the confirmation link, if you signed up for the newsletter you will get 2 emails, one for the newsletter and one for the membership. For some reason the newsletter one showed up in my inbox and the membership was in my junk mail folder, so keep an eye out.

You weren't kidding. Ok I found this on page 28. All credit goes to jacknicklson for the original faq (1-6).

ECA/Amazon FAQ

1. I can't get into the member's area/can't find out where to pay. Help!

After the initial registration email, you should receive a second email linking you to a payment page. You can request that this email be resent if need be. Make sure to check your junk/spam folders as well.

2. Will this work on consoles?

No. Games and most accessories only. Physical point cards are also eligible, but not digital point codes.

3. Do these work on Quick Picks/Deals of the Day/Trade-in Coupons?

Yes, Yes, and Yes!

4. How do I get my Quick Picks to show games?

http://betterelevation.com/2009/02/1...old-box-trick/
This should be a basis to get it to work for whatever you are interested in. It is not a science though so be persistent.

5. Does this work on Pre-orders?

Yes, it does. The price will also automatically take off 10% of whatever the final selling point is due to the Pre-Price Guarantee that Amazon offers.

6. I have heard that these offers have expired/been removed, is this true?

There have been a few instances where codes expired or they ran out but The ECA and Amazon have usually rectified the situation within a week or so. Also, the Terms of Service state that any membership benefits can change or be canceled without any notice so keep that in mind when signing up.

7. Double and Triple stacking

This is no longer possible. Don't bother trying. Originally when the ECA would run out of codes and switch to a new batch members were able to stack codes. A glitch in Amazon's system would keep older codes in your account, and it was possible to add codes from the newer batches to obtain more than 10% off. Amazon found out about this, hence the reason the codes are currently down/ being worked on.

8. Begging/Asking for codes

This is not allowed. If you beg/ask for a code you will be permabanned. No questions asked.

9. Selling codes

Definitely a big no no. If you do this, you will get reported to the ECA and your account will be shut down.

10. If I make a pre-order with a code a cancel it, will the code still work?

Yes. Codes should remain in your account but again they will no longer stack. It is one code per game. Amazon and the ECA are working on codes tied into our accounts but this option is not yet available.

11. If I already have a pre-order made, can I add a 10% off code to it?

You can not add a anything to an order once it is made except a gift card. You can try emailing Amazon customer support and ask them to add it. Generally they have no issue doing this for you but it's a crap shoot.

12. What if I already have a pre-order with the old codes applied? Should I be worried?

We don't know definitively, but chances are good that Amazon will not touch the pre orders we have already made.
My gold box made me laugh today. Two of the items were individual books from the Twilight series and one was the complete series. I think I'll pass.
For anyone on the fence about this discount: Amazon is going through a wave of preorder goldboxes for games (from what i have been told by a friend who works at amazon) and this combined with that deal makes some games a steal. I'll be getting God of War III for $48 and change and many new preorders keep on cyclying through every day (Today i had FF13 in my box for about the same price.) Just a heads up to anyone that cares.
Hope you're right, since I've tried everything and still can't get even one game I want. Mine hasn't updated yet today, so here's hoping.

I've had those gay books twice now; no idea why.

8/7 - Resident Evil (PSP)
8/8 - Metroid Prime Trilogy Guide, Madden 10 (PSP/PS3)
8/10 - C.O.R.E. (DS)

Resident Evil was my only Gold Box deal, I pre-ordered Madden 10 cause I was afraid of not getting the $10 gift cards or the release-date delivery and I finally got HubbaGames to cancel my pre-order for C.O.R.E. so I got it from Amazon now.

Muramasa is in the Gold Box today, but a little spendy for me right now. And PopCap Hits! Vol. 1 for the PS2 is in there too, didn't even know it existed til today.
Holy hell! I would love to preorder FF 13 using Gold Box (plus a $30 code if they give me the one already from a trade accpeted 3 days ago - I expected it yesterday). I just figured FF 13 was so far out they wouldn't have that available. I'm hoping for closer releases like NSMB Wii. I've already preordered Persona PSP and Disgaea 2 PSP using Gold box + $30 coupon.

Right now I do have 3 game preorders in my Gold Box but I'm not 100% sure I want to get any of them via preorder: Golden Sun DS ($33.24), Phantom Brave Wii ($38.47), and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days ($33.24).

On the other hand, ny wife's Gold Box picks (which I tailored to get more video games as well for double the chance of good stuff) has a fucking Glenn Beck book in it right now! Boy, they sure don't know her too well - she's likely to cancel her Amazon account if she sees that ;).
I've been getting a TON of pre-orders in my GB lately that don't even have release dates. Its been crazy!

Ok, noob alert. Ok, i'm trying to sign up for this but all I got was signed up for a newsletter. Wtf!!! How do I sign up for this thing?

yup! after weeks of having shit in my gold box, I just pre-ordered:

GT5
ratchet and clank: a crack in time
MAG
the last guardian

woohoo!
Hey yall.

Do ECA codes work with Xbox Live Arcade Downloads?
I don't think they work with digital items (games and live points), but I know for a fact they work on physical point live cards, so worse case scenario, you could always order a point card and use it towards the purchase of a download.
Ok, noob alert. Ok, i'm trying to sign up for this but all I got was signed up for a newsletter. Wtf!!! How do I sign up for this thing?
I agree it's a bit odd. What will happen next is a second email should get to you putting the membership in your cart to buy.

So look for the second (maybe 3rd?) email which then will link to the site to allow you to purchase the membership and input payment info. This would have been nice to put into the OP so people don't wig out while they're waiting for that second or third email.

I have a question. With Amazon, does this work on Videogames & Videogame Acc? I was looking into buying a 120gb Hard Drive for my 360.

It did work. I signed up, I was going to anyway, and I got the %10 off.

I had this issue, and clicking the resend validation under account settings didn't do anything (but oddly enough if I changed to a non .edu, it would send...), so I just emailed [email protected] from my .edu account and told them the validation email wasn't sending, and they manually sent me one.

?

It says the codes are for software only.

I must be missing something on the eca website. I have registered but at what point do they get your payment info? Someone please help! I want to get the codes to use on amazon.

Yeah same here. It sends to my non .edu account.

Anyways, just emailed them, hoping to get a reply soon. Thanks! :)

I don't understand this, am I missing something? "My gold box"? The Gold box is different for everyone?\

Oh, never realized the Quick Pick's before. I assume that is what you're talking about?

I actually have to UNCHECK my ratings for some games to get them in my recommendations, which eventually turn up in my Gold Box. If I rate the games I WANT, it will not show up in my recommendations.

I know it sounds strange, but give it a shot.
will they generate new codes after 9/30? I just joined today and noticed the expiration date.
They haven't said they won't, and given the mass expiration of codes that happened on 6/30 it's likely Amazon just sends them codes quarterly. I wouldn't worry about it.

Does the 10% discount work only if your order the game from amazon or what if you order it used from an amazon seller, like a regular person selling their used game on amazon??

Thank you

It only works for games sold by Amazon.com.

OK, so I posted this over in the Amazon trade-in thread but this is too good not to share here with the other Gold Box/Quick Pick junkies:

Here's what I just got on my wife's Amazon "Quick Picks" (or Gold Box or whatever you want to call it). Note that I have tailored hers just like mine with all video game recommendations so I have double the chance of getting good stuff to preorder.

The MS points and Wii Motion Plus are great (though I already have 2 Wii Motion Plus and like my points cheaper than that) but can everyone else see what is wrong with the rest of the picks? Think of them as a package deal. Insert redneck jokes here...

That's how it is supposed to be. You aren't supposed to go after the games you want, but rate/check you own etc the games and items grouped with it. When you go to Batman: AA page, for example, and it lists "similar product" those are the things you should be rating and messing with. Unfortunately no matter what I do nothing changes, so I can't say anything really works one way or the other from personal experience anyway.

Amazon must think I'm the freaking renaissance man. Working on my computer, reading all sorts of different books...gluing things! Whew, makes mes tired just thinking about my goldbox.
i got the 120gb hdd in my amazon box today, which would make for a good deal, but i still find it way overpriced.
it definitely is :bomb:

Vortextk, your comment had me cracking up. I get the same impression from Amazon at times. They'll send me like books on repairing cars, building houses, furniture, baby supplies and all sorts of things that have NO relationship to any items I browse or buy lol. It is quite funny though from time to time.

I think Amazon is being considerate in your fine dining options of catching live raccoon and grilling it on a foreman. And just to be sure, to scrape off that wild meat grissle once you're done.
I must be missing something on the eca website. I have registered but at what point do they get your payment info? Someone please help! I want to get the codes to use on amazon.
I had the same problem over the weekend. For some reason it wouldn't send the validation email even when I presesed on the "Re-Send" button. Although their CS were good about replying they weren't able to fix it very quickly. Eventually I got it tow work, so it must have been a system wide problem. In any case, I joined and applied my first code to Batman.

I bought the membership yesterday afternoon and went to amazon to cancel my preorders so I could apply the codes to MW2 and Halo ODST. When I went to check my goldbox after cancelling, the items had changed to the games I had just cancelled! :applause: I thought it was crazy random and never had my goldbox items changed in the middle of the day like that.

Nice. So on the batman SE it's 94$, so eca takes off 9.4. Makes sense, it's not a special sale price or something(in which case it usually takes off the original list price). But I needed a new ps3 controller, which is already cheap at 43(and a free guitar controller? even if it's garbage, why not!), but eca actually takes the 6$ off it! So sweet.

Demon's souls special edition, batman special edition, ps3 controller and brutal legends..all definite buys coming soon. Definitely worth it.

Just email CS and have them apply the coupons to previous preorders. I've done it about 4 times already. They also messed up and gave me an extra discount on a few of the orders. :)

Just some info I've been asked to pass along (no, I have nothing to do with the ECA -- although this info comes straight from them-- so please don't PM me asking for help, post here. :) )--

They're aware of the issues with the .edu mail addresses. It seems to be that universities are much more aggressive about spam filtering (and just dropping messages instead of marking them as 'spam' somehow) than other ISPs and the ECA is re-writing their stock emails to hopefully be less "spam looking". In the meantime, anyone with issues can email [email protected] to get their account set up.

Also, they're very appreciative of the Ebay seller reporting so be sure to keep that up if you happen to see anyone trying to sell codes... the sponsors can pull their participation at any time so everything we do to keep it for ECA members only (and not abused) helps keep the deal alive and the relationship with the sponsors good. (and they are receiving new Amazon codes every 3-4 weeks)

Hopefully this helps put some minds at ease. :)

nice. Let them know we love having these codes work on everything from the video game store. Limiting it to game software only would be a downer :cold:

Doesnt seem to work on consoles, so it doesnt apply to everything in the video game store. I tried the PSPGo and a couple of 360s.

So before I subscribe to this, are these codes good for a year? Like will I be able to get 10% off amazon games for a full year??

Would you mind going into further detail about this? I've already made pre-orders on amazon and I'll sign up for ECA if they allow me to apply the discount code to it. Thanks.

One, you can just cancel your pre-orders and redo them. Two, if the price has gone up since then(or they were in your goldbox), you should be able to call and have them apply to them as is. I've read about people doing it, right here, numerous times.

Hah I was wrong about the controller. It's not taking 6 off the 43$ ps3 controller, it's taking 4.3 off and then 1.70 off the already free(17$ regularly) bundled guitar controller. Being paid to take merchandise is a nice feeling.

It is real hit or miss with that. I had gotten Madden in my Gold Box and Halo ODST in my Gold Box before I got the ECA. I used to get great service through e-mail. My e-mail on Madden had the guy make my price less 10% of the price with a manual change, so I would have gotten screwed on the price protection and he did not carry over my gold box. I decided to call because Halo I had at 5% and locked in the $55.99 price it had once been. The person on the line didn't understand what I was saying despite just saying "I forgot to put my 10% discount in" before telling me I would have to re-order. They sent me the e-mail feedback where I re-stated the problem again and they sent me pretty much a tough luck e-mail. It's amazing, this time last year I LOVED Amazon's service, now it seems like anytime there is an issue, I have to find a way to resolve it myself.

Needless to say, I canceled a few of my pre-ECA pre-orders and they have already shown back up in my Gold Box, making them steals, but it's really like pulling straws...

Wish I could get anything in my goldbox, maybe I should go on a pre-order/canceling binge...

Anyway that sucks, but it does sound like you're in the minority here. I don't know, I usually plan to never need to call any kind of customer support to avoid this stuff =P, as best as I can anyway.

Ok, I have now gotten two email and still no way to sign up for this thing. Can someone post a direct link or something?
