If you use the code GIMAG on theeca.com (found in an article of the new Crackdown GI issue), you can receive a free, full 1 year membership (I think it's only for new accounts). You do need a credit card to sign up, but if you cancel before the 1 year is up, you won't be charged. This is a great deal for the free amazon discount. Be sure to use the coupon soon, because the article doesn't mention the expiration for the coupon.

Enjoy guys!
dallascowboys

P.S. Now all of CAG can have an ECA membership!

Also, after you enter your CC number and the coupon, the page after lets you check everything before you submit your order. That way you know that the coupon worked and you won't be charged.

LinkinPrime Edit:

Check your spam filters for the confirmation link, if you signed up for the newsletter you will get 2 emails, one for the newsletter and one for the membership. For some reason the newsletter one showed up in my inbox and the membership was in my junk mail folder, so keep an eye out.

You weren't kidding. Ok I found this on page 28. All credit goes to jacknicklson for the original faq (1-6).

ECA/Amazon FAQ

1. I can't get into the member's area/can't find out where to pay. Help!

After the initial registration email, you should receive a second email linking you to a payment page. You can request that this email be resent if need be. Make sure to check your junk/spam folders as well.

2. Will this work on consoles?

No. Games and most accessories only. Physical point cards are also eligible, but not digital point codes.

3. Do these work on Quick Picks/Deals of the Day/Trade-in Coupons?

Yes, Yes, and Yes!

4. How do I get my Quick Picks to show games?

http://betterelevation.com/2009/02/1...old-box-trick/
This should be a basis to get it to work for whatever you are interested in. It is not a science though so be persistent.

5. Does this work on Pre-orders?

Yes, it does. The price will also automatically take off 10% of whatever the final selling point is due to the Pre-Price Guarantee that Amazon offers.

6. I have heard that these offers have expired/been removed, is this true?

There have been a few instances where codes expired or they ran out but The ECA and Amazon have usually rectified the situation within a week or so. Also, the Terms of Service state that any membership benefits can change or be canceled without any notice so keep that in mind when signing up.

7. Double and Triple stacking

This is no longer possible. Don't bother trying. Originally when the ECA would run out of codes and switch to a new batch members were able to stack codes. A glitch in Amazon's system would keep older codes in your account, and it was possible to add codes from the newer batches to obtain more than 10% off. Amazon found out about this, hence the reason the codes are currently down/ being worked on.

8. Begging/Asking for codes

This is not allowed. If you beg/ask for a code you will be permabanned. No questions asked.

9. Selling codes

Definitely a big no no. If you do this, you will get reported to the ECA and your account will be shut down.

10. If I make a pre-order with a code a cancel it, will the code still work?

Yes. Codes should remain in your account but again they will no longer stack. It is one code per game. Amazon and the ECA are working on codes tied into our accounts but this option is not yet available.

11. If I already have a pre-order made, can I add a 10% off code to it?

You can not add a anything to an order once it is made except a gift card. You can try emailing Amazon customer support and ask them to add it. Generally they have no issue doing this for you but it's a crap shoot.

12. What if I already have a pre-order with the old codes applied? Should I be worried?

We don't know definitively, but chances are good that Amazon will not touch the pre orders we have already made.
Holy shit... You were right. :) I just preordered 18 games at 30% off. You are my hero. :)
Holy shit... You were right. :) I just preordered 18 games at 30% off. You are my hero. :)
I forgot to put a couple of games on my list. I am kind of afraid to cancel my order and redo it and not have it work again. But isn't it great to get a bunch of games for around 40 bucks each.

Sealed games at release, some even at 40$ + 10$ credit back(4 of those for me, and uncharted with another 5$ back), is pretty difficult to pass up, atleast for me. I've caught up on nearly every used game I will ever want on the consoles atleast, other than stuff this past summer like prototype or infamous, and now I've got mostly every new release I want ordered until 2011 as well =)
If you don't mind paying $40 each for games. There are very few I'd pay that much for, but if that's a great price for you, go for it.
Counting Halo:ODST (which came with $15 back in credit), 6 of the 8 games I've got ordered with 2009 release dates come with $10 back in gamers credit. So it is closer to 30 dollars per game than 40. Considering that the trade-in values for most new titles are generally greater than $30 on Amazon (without even factoring in possible promos), that is a pretty irresistible price.
Holy shit... You were right. :) I just preordered 18 games at 30% off. You are my hero. :)
I did the same thing. One massive preorder grab at 30% and 2 Xbox 1600 point cards at 30% off.

Now to wait since next week the 1st preorder releases (Op Flashpoint).

That does sound sweet. I generally buy games with the intent to keep, rather than trade back. With the amount of games I have in the ubiquitous backlog, I generally wait for games to come down substantially in price. For the ones I'm dying for at launch, I usually pay close to full price. But with Amazons Quick Picks and the ECA codes, I may treat myself to a few more.

I probably won't end up keeping a lot of mine. Even at ~$40, some of the games are borderline enough that I can wait for drops to get them even lower. Keeping the preorder will depend on either amazing reviews or further drops/coupons/gift certs from Amazon.

Dang, yeah...Assassin's Creed and Brutal Legend fall into that category for me. Dragon Age I'd prefer to get on PC, but not sure about activation yet (and as always fall into the "which platform do I buy it for" problem).

True, I also preordered on the idea, since I had the codes stacked, but most games are TBD. My problem is I probably will end up keeping a lot of mine unless reviews are very bad.

I'm going the same route, since you can always cancel an item that has yet to ship. The first game is supposed to ship today, so I'm curious how that will go (Halo Wars).
With the amount of games I have in the ubiquitous backlog
That is the only drawback to this deal for me: a steady influx of new games virtually ensures I'll never touch many of the games in my ever-growing backlog. I've still got games from last year's BF I haven't touched. Fortunately most of them were $9.99 type pickups.

Anyone have an extra code that they can share with me, God of War collection just showed up in my GB, but I can't get new code out of ECA.
it says it's being sold by pieceofmindmedia, but fulfilled by amazon. will the 10% code still work with this?
No. And you don't want to buy from pieceofmindmedia anyway, they misrepresent the state of their games (used games re-shrinkwrapped and sold as new). There's a thread on it in the deal discussion forum.

Mod already stated no asking/begging/giving codes away!

Could someone update the OP even though new comers wont read it anyways....

That's why you can't call it a "backlog" but instead refer to it as a "collection" or "library". ;)

Yeah, I "collect" games this generation. I keep telling myself that, but it doesn't help when I see that huge stack at home. :bomb:

Hee hee, I love that, yeah "collection", not backlog :whistle2:D

Nah, I don't really think of it as my collection until I've actually played it, since among other things I may or may not keep the game :) But that's a great thought!
Yeah, I "collect" games this generation. I keep telling myself that, but it doesn't help when I see that huge stack at home. :bomb:
Good so I'm not the only one who has a lot of games in his collection he hasn't really played or finished. I have about 78 games(just started collecting last summer) betwen the PS2, PS3 and Wii and I have only finished maybe 12 of them. LOL. Well I have played most of them and almost done with 5 others. I better finish those 5 since when U2 comes out I proabably won't be touchng my other games much.

Yikes, that MIGHT be worse than me 3rdbass! I've got I think 10 current gen games, roughly similar number of portable games, and probably several dozen PC games unplayed.

I've actually gotten my unplayed Xbox/Playstation games down a lot, but that Best Buy sale didn't help things! Bionic Commando kicks ass, but "luckily" I hated Farcry 2 and Watchmen, so got through those pretty fast (except stupid Watchmen messed up my Gamerscore so it'll never be a 0 or 5 again probably ever :bomb: )

On the collection, or "library" as I like to call it: My girlfriend counted my console games and told me how many I own not too long ago. I was surprised.

Not including all PC titles, NDS, or PSP games, or old cart games like NES, SNES, and N64 -- this is PS1, PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, GameCube, Wii, and the PC games in DVD cases.

Over 500.

So yeah, I we may be CAGs, but that doesn't mean we don't buy a lot of games. We just want to pay less. :)

Whoa, that's dedication to count all those! :whistle2:D

Geez, I've got a bunch upstairs, all my NES games are in the basement (along with my NES, which frankly if I had space for I'd keep hooked up, because it still has plenty of games I feel like playing).

All that stuff would be bad enough, but then add in PC games and it's a mess, because they're ALL over the place, including on my floor, in a drawer, a bunch from GOG.com, a few from Steam, etc.

I don't know if I have 500 or not though. Wouldn't surprise me if it's over 100 though.

I need to stop being such a bitch and waiting for 2-3 games I want to preorder to appear on my Gold Box because no one knows when the ECA codes will disappear from my account...
quick question, i want to buy GoW: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=481918051&pf_rd_i=507846

it says it's being sold by pieceofmindmedia, but fulfilled by amazon. will the 10% code still work with this?

thanks.
Under the sellers for the game. Unless you have prime or a larger order, you are going to have to pay for shipping since SSS is only good for orders over $25. You are only going to get $1.80 with the 10 percent off. Game city seems to be the way to go since it is 15.64 after shipping and factory sealed.

16.81 from Piece of Mind
17.99 from Amazon. , 16.10 after 10 percent plus shipping.

11.65 plus 4 shipping from Piece of Mind Books
11.65 plus 4 shipping from Game City

I like this. I was hoping the beggars would die down as the new batch of codes got more seasoned but I think that way works better.

I've been having trouble with this, how exactly do you use the code? When I paste it in the gift card area it always says there's something wrong with the code.

I have been preordering many games I'd otherwise wait for price drops on (eg, Ratchet & Clank, Persona PSP, KH DS, etc). But on top of the ECA discount, quick picks, and $5 and $10 code goodies, there is the whole trade-in program at Amazon. You may have missed it but for a while they were giving away $30 game codes with $60 in trade-ins. And this corresponded with a couple of sales/clearances. For example, you could have gotten a lot of games from the Blockbuster B1G1 sale and sent them in for the credit + bonus.

So the combination of the trade-in program and bonus credits + the Amazon discounts, ECA, and bonus codes after purchase have made me buy way more there than I would have ;).

damn that's baller status.. I'm just rollin the 30% right now haha, but yeah I used to love going out and hunting for flips, but now I find it easier to just take what I can find on these boards.. plus with this 30% I think I"m set for games well into next year =)

Yeah, I don't have time or energy for flips, so I just roll with whatever the easiest deals are. It's still been working out very well so far.
Does the ECA 10% off @ Amazon also include gaming hardware (PS3)?

If so, is the free year w/ coupon code GIMAG still open?
Dell.com is the best place to get a system. They almost always have some new deal or another for 15 to 18 percent off the system.

Yeah I've seen Dell often has great deals, but I've also seen them push back shipping dates upwards of 2 months and even cancel orders (see: recent 15% off PS3 system fiasco).

But thanks for the information, bigdaddybruce44 and wildcpac.

More proof to close, consolidate, and sticky

wanted to say thanks to whoever found out about the stacking of codes. I've saved the cost of the $15 membership from one order - actually saved $100 off MSRP.

Ordered:
2xCoD: MW2 - one for my bro had it shipped to him w/ release date
Borderlands
Halo: ODST
WoW: Cataclysm
WoW: 60 Day time card (30% worked on this!)
Bioshock 2

thinking about it, prob coulda got another time card while I was at it haha, wish I could set an order to ship/charge later. 1600MS points woulda been nice but I don't see myself needing it asap.

once again thanks for the heads up CAGers

Did anyone get a $10 promotional certificate in their account yesterday? I got one but didn't get an email indicating what it was but all I can think of is its an extremely late odst promotion.

Nope didn't order kingdom hearts. ODST is the only game I have ordered recently with a promotion besides all the preorders I also did yesterday. Maybe one of the preorders is giving an instant promo like uncharted did.

the game I have preordered with promo's are: modern warfare 2, brutal legend, dragon age and assassins creed

Its a possibility but it might still just be ODST credit. Anyone else have any mystery $10 promotions?
