If you use the code GIMAG on theeca.com (found in an article of the new Crackdown GI issue), you can receive a free, full 1 year membership (I think it's only for new accounts). You do need a credit card to sign up, but if you cancel before the 1 year is up, you won't be charged. This is a great deal for the free amazon discount. Be sure to use the coupon soon, because the article doesn't mention the expiration for the coupon.

Enjoy guys!
dallascowboys

P.S. Now all of CAG can have an ECA membership!

Also, after you enter your CC number and the coupon, the page after lets you check everything before you submit your order. That way you know that the coupon worked and you won't be charged.

LinkinPrime Edit:

Check your spam filters for the confirmation link, if you signed up for the newsletter you will get 2 emails, one for the newsletter and one for the membership. For some reason the newsletter one showed up in my inbox and the membership was in my junk mail folder, so keep an eye out.

You weren't kidding. Ok I found this on page 28. All credit goes to jacknicklson for the original faq (1-6).

ECA/Amazon FAQ

1. I can't get into the member's area/can't find out where to pay. Help!

After the initial registration email, you should receive a second email linking you to a payment page. You can request that this email be resent if need be. Make sure to check your junk/spam folders as well.

2. Will this work on consoles?

No. Games and most accessories only. Physical point cards are also eligible, but not digital point codes.

3. Do these work on Quick Picks/Deals of the Day/Trade-in Coupons?

Yes, Yes, and Yes!

4. How do I get my Quick Picks to show games?

http://betterelevation.com/2009/02/1...old-box-trick/
This should be a basis to get it to work for whatever you are interested in. It is not a science though so be persistent.

5. Does this work on Pre-orders?

Yes, it does. The price will also automatically take off 10% of whatever the final selling point is due to the Pre-Price Guarantee that Amazon offers.

6. I have heard that these offers have expired/been removed, is this true?

There have been a few instances where codes expired or they ran out but The ECA and Amazon have usually rectified the situation within a week or so. Also, the Terms of Service state that any membership benefits can change or be canceled without any notice so keep that in mind when signing up.

7. Double and Triple stacking

This is no longer possible. Don't bother trying. Originally when the ECA would run out of codes and switch to a new batch members were able to stack codes. A glitch in Amazon's system would keep older codes in your account, and it was possible to add codes from the newer batches to obtain more than 10% off. Amazon found out about this, hence the reason the codes are currently down/ being worked on.

8. Begging/Asking for codes

This is not allowed. If you beg/ask for a code you will be permabanned. No questions asked.

9. Selling codes

Definitely a big no no. If you do this, you will get reported to the ECA and your account will be shut down.

10. If I make a pre-order with a code a cancel it, will the code still work?

Yes. Codes should remain in your account but again they will no longer stack. It is one code per game. Amazon and the ECA are working on codes tied into our accounts but this option is not yet available.

11. If I already have a pre-order made, can I add a 10% off code to it?

You can not add a anything to an order once it is made except a gift card. You can try emailing Amazon customer support and ask them to add it. Generally they have no issue doing this for you but it's a crap shoot.

12. What if I already have a pre-order with the old codes applied? Should I be worried?

We don't know definitively, but chances are good that Amazon will not touch the pre orders we have already made.
No, the codes are not gone for good, just gone for the time being until they fix the stacking problem. They were supposed to be back up a few days ago, but obviously they are not yet ready to release them to the hounds (that would be us/me). :) I just placed an order today with an old ECA code that I had in my account (Dead Space 360 for $16.64 shipped? Yes, please), so so far they haven't disabled the use of past codes if you still have them. Hopefully they get the codes working again soon. In the past there have been periods when the codes were down as well.

I closed the other thread, the one about the free membership and copy-and-pasted its OP into the OP of this thread.

The FAQ that jacknicolson put forth that someone put up last page has also been copy-and-pasted into the OP.

what is up with eca

first they give everyone a free account... then when i asked why when it happened a few months ago i get a very nice reply and go for your troubles we give you a prize pack... Nothing ships

so i ask them again if it ever shipped out on sept 30 (just to keep a watch for it) they go give me the weekend and i get back to you to see if it shipped.... so far still never heard from them....

and now no codes...... have to think twice about giving them more cash next year

(then again if i save big black friday it might change my mind LOL)

Hey. For some reason I cant switch my Uncharted 2 preorder to release date shipping even though its being offered now. Any way I can cancel and re-order the same game using the same coupon code? My main issue is I dont know what code I used for that order :whistle2:/ I signed up for Prime and it's only offering me two day shipping. I actually have tuesday and wednesday off from work so it'd be nice to have around is possible.
I tried using two J codes but it would not accept either. I had one that worked yesterday fine but not today
I just applied the last J code that I had left, and it worked fine. Are you sure that you hadn't already used them?

God this sucks... it's the only reason I joined the damn ECA. Fix it Amazon! And damn the assholes who exploited it!

For some reason they haven't worked out all the kinks in the "RDD" stuff. If you send them an email, tell them you really wanted to RDD and that the option doesn't appear avaiable- and you are more than happy to pay for the upgrade. They will likely give you a free overnight upgrade (that's what happened on my last 2 orders). Probably still won't be there on release day though.
I just applied the last J code that I had left, and it worked fine. Are you sure that you hadn't already used them?
Yeah they were never used. It worked fine yesterday though. I may try them again later and see.

so if i had a 20% off order using a J code and a # code that I try to cancel and change my game, will the # code dissapear?

Has anyone canceled and reordered and got to keep their # code in their account?

Although I understand closing the other thread...the title of this thread should at least mention the free membership as long as it is available.

A lot of CAGers will overlook this thread thinking the membership is paid. I know it is mentioned briefly in the OP...but it is easily overlooked.

ECA has reiterated that the free members did not affect these codes and the free membership shouldn't be brushed under the rug.

i searched this thread but couldn't find any info. Is there a way to find out all the amazon codes that were generated for your account on the ECA website? I may have generated one extra and want to verify.

Nope, not that we have access too unless I'm screwed up.

I liked when I could just generate them on demand, versus having to think "okay, do I have enough for x amount of purchases?")

People have tried this and reported it only offered 10% when they placed a new order. The # codes were manually canceled by Amazon.
any word on when new amazon codes are coming?
Nope just keep checking the site or go into the forums as one of the chapter members normally updates this thread(see link) with new information.

http://forums.theeca.com/showthread.php?t=6672&page=5

Well it looks like she is closing the thread due to too much speculation but she said she will update it when something new comes out.

This sounds very familiar. I also e-mailed them asking about all the free accounts. They also promised to send me something for my 'troubles'. I believe they were going to send a shirt. That was promised on 9/16....haven't received anything from them yet.

In the e-mail, they compared giving away all the free memberships to a free membership at a gym. Basically saying that if somebody was a paying member to that gym, they should be alright with the gym giving free trials. But what freaking gym gives away a trial for the same length of time as the paying members get?

My response to ECA's analogy was that if the 'gym' becomes useless to the paying member because it has been overrun by the free trial memberships, then the paying member most likely will not renew when it comes time to pay his dues again.

And now in the case with no Amazon codes, it's like going to the gym and there is no equipment to work out on. Terrible analogy by them to compare the free memberships to gym memberships.

If you are already are a member of gamefly, log out completly. Isn't there a coupon code for gamefly? I remember I had to do something special to get it to work but it did work. I cant try now because I already used it.

Damn. I didn't know that they weren't giving out new codes. I wanted to get in on Red Faction: Guerilla (DotD). I should've saved a code to be safe. Oh well... lesson learned.

Be careful doing this! I had some idiot CSR CANCEL my order because they couldn't figure out how to upgrade this shipping. They said it was due to a bug that it couldn't be changed and told me to reorder it. I was absolutely shocked they would do something without my permission, especially since it had never been discussed beforehand.

I'm not a member of GF but there is no code on the eca membership page at all. Just a default link.

The free memberships killed this (for the time being anyways). Yeah "stacking codes blah blah blah", but without the thousands of free members, this whole stacking thing would have stayed under the radar. The volume of stacked orders caused by the enormous number of freeloaders is responsible for this.
It's mentioned in the OP. If people choose to overlook it, it's their issue.
They're not going to overlook the OP...they're going to overlook the whole thread...SAD...The biggest deal with ECA is that it is currently free...it deserves mention in the topic title.

That's a piss poor analogy...ECA stated stacking the codes are THE issue.
The analogy should read :

"I'm going to call ahead and see if the gym will hold three treadmills even though when I joined, I knew the benefit of the gym was to have one treadmill available." Or... "Man, there sure are a bunch of free members in here...I'm pissed because I paid...I'll just go down and stuff 50 towels in my locker because these free members are gonna get to 'em before me."

Free members had nothing to do with ECA or Amazon pulling the codes.

No, I'd say it had a lot more to do with the constantly canceling of orders and re-buying the same things in addition to EMAILING AMAZON AND ASKING TO STACK. It sounds like the members abusing the ECA discount were doing anything but trying to keep it under the radar.

The OP title is fine the way it is. There's a note in the OP about the free membership, with the OP from the free membership thread quoted in the OP of this thread. It's pretty clear, all told.

I'm sure they would love to read all about free membership in the OP...but the thread title gives no indication that the OP contains details about the free membership...MOST that are unaware will miss the thread entirely...however, they would most certainly jump in to read the OP if FREE MEMBERSHIP was in the thread title....it's doing a disservice to all the new members who join each day in the hopes of becoming a CHEAP ASS GAMER. I missed this thread and only cared to read about ECA UNTIL the Free Membership thread was posted. Do we not rely on good thread titles to see if said thread is worth reading?

So the next time I find a free deal such as the pre-order bonuses I should just make a Thread titled "Free DLC with the Purchase of a pre-order" and not bother mentioning in the title that said purchase of the pre-order is FREE??? That's lunacy...I'd be scolded for such and thrown in the fire...it's pertinent information.

People were still coming across the other thread and still signing up as of today. How many people in THIS thread have come in and said thanks for the info about the free membership?

It's almost as if the Free Membership is being brushed under the rug because of unfounded fears. I'm shocked a Mod doesn't want THE biggest part of the ECA deal listed in the thread title.

I just looked at the OP and I had trouble finding the 'free membership info'. I thought the idea of this website was to help other gamers find deals. Maybe I am misinformed, but the title and OP do not make it apparent a free membership is available. Maybe if the text was bold or a different color or something.

I was lucky when I put a game on order the other day and an automatic 10% discount popped up. Since then I haven't seen it again and I've tried every day.

Nope, not working for me... Did you cancel any pre-orders that had the discount on it? It will automatically apply it for you if you previously put it in.
well at least since the codes went down I've had crap appear in my goldbox
Right now I have Halo Reach and Crackdown 2 in my goldbox quick picks. Could use some codes right.

Man, fuck these guys. They're total douchebags. First of all, they charge me $15 to join their club and then they go and make it free a month later. And then, they have the nerve to remove the discount (AKA the reason I joined in the first place) altogether for who knows how long.

They cant control how long amazon keeps this going.

There are a bunch of free loaders here. How much is made on a game to offer 10%, potentially no tax, and free shipping?

I don't know, I think some anger/disappointment is justified. This is like the fifth time that codes have been unavailable for a period of days. If they're going to charge for membership, then the benefits that people pay for ought to be consistently available. Hopefully all of these problems are due to the program being new, and things will smooth over with time.

Did the 10% coupons work on your entire order, or only for 1 product? For example if I wanted to order 2 of the same game would it give me 10% off my whole order?

You're supposed to only buy 1 game (and nothing else if I recall) per order.

All I'm saying is that it's a reasonable expectation that the benefit will be consistently available. And if it's not, then yeah, people have the right to complain. Some CYA disclaimer doesn't just make the problems go away.

And no, I'm not saying ZOMG LET'S ALL SUE, so please don't respond as if I was.
