Free FFXI Beta for 360 owners

BREVITY: I'm up for a CAG linkshell too, although I am waiting for the issue to show up on the store shelves next week (the 17th hopefully). I will probably start in San D'Oria though.

Now if someone has got the issue in the mail already, and doesn't want the ffxi dvd (don't have a 360, or hates MMORPG's. I would paypal $5 bucks if you wanted to send just the dvd out priority mail. :)
 
CAG linkshell is fine too I guess since it's only temp.
gonna suck starting from scratch with no gil lol..

Since I played Black Mage to 66 I think i'll try a melee class this time round. War or Thf I guess.
 
this is drawn out slow battle system that's like most other MMORPGs.

Select enemy, select attack, watch, do a few renkeis spells blah blah.
It's real time but it isn't very action.

It'll be fun at the beginning and at certain points. It's certainly addicting and will suck up loads of time to get high lvl. Hell you have to reach lvl 20 before you can even get a chocobo....

when I started playing there weren't any high lvls aroudn to help and let me tell you getting subjob drops and other quests can get quite annoying....

honestly we're talking at later levels just waiting hours for a party. And if the party is actually good expect tons of time spent just pulling monsters over and over.......... and over...............

And gil?.... ugh..

Since this is a new Beta Server i'll assume it won't be fun hunting skeletons for skulls to get subjob. It's a whole lot easier when you have a high lvl helpin you though.

There's a whole lot to hate about FFXI and somehow it stays addicting.
 
In the PS2 beta I made good money getting people their SJ stuff. In retail though the items seemed to drop at a far better rate.
 
so is this magazine out already or no?? if so where can I pick one up? do I have time to subscribe to say a yearly subscription and still get this disc?
 
Yea, a linkshell would be awesome. I'm gonna start out in Sandoria just because Windurst is way to f'ing big to get around in. I know Sandy pretty good also.

The mag hits shelfs on the 17th and there is way time to subscribe. JUst wait til the 17th. My friend is giving me his copy but he has yet to get hi mag in the mail.
 
I'll have to check it out and It turns out its not for me I'll find someone that does. Any Ideas if they are going to charge monthly fees later on/how much?

Got it yesterday, few goodies:

2 hour install (WITH A KEYBOARD! 8 hour without)
wireless usb keyboards work
voice chat is through your friends list on the dashboard
I see how people can get sucked in and lose hours and hours this game is huge


Fun so far but I won't play after you gotta pay/buy the game.





Questions for past players:

Anyone know where to turn in the adventurers coupon?

Do you have a house in the game? Is it usually labeled on the map? I bought a sword at the auction house and then found out I couldn't use it cause i'm a black mage. I sold it back to someone through the auction house and it said the gil would be sent to my residence.

lol, yeah make sure you check to see you can use items before you buy them.
Adventuror coupon you turn into the person in front of the moghouse (at least in Bastok or wherever it's been awhile)

Moghouses are uhm they're on the map lol
 
Awesome. I just went to the grocery store and they had it for sale. I'm popping it in right now for the long install. Everyone check your stores!

I'd go as Bukkake Fighter but last time I chose that they forced me to change my name =(.
I sold my Zoglog Character off for $180 but I don't think names are universal for all realms so I might be able to use my handle :D

I think i'm gonna go Thf or war this time with Mithra. Probably thf. I always enjoyed playing thf and got my last one up to 38

But I was pretty rich by that point so I had all the rare items like emperor's hairpin and leaping boots o_O gonna miss those

Start in Sandy. So Zew, Trakan, yoursefl, and myself can play together.
 
Hmmmm, I went to ralphs, no luck =( I guess i'll check the newstand in westwood tomorrow during lunch at work.

I would start in Sandy but I really hate elves in the game haha. The way they look pisses me off :D

Same. But I'm a Hume. Sure you don't get the sweet ring but O well you can earn it down the line.
 
My buddy decided it would take time out of his WoW playing - so I am loading things up right now. I will keep an eye on the thread and maybe look you up.
 
I love this! All of my Money Making Tricks still work. Buy low sell high. Im level 4 right now with 2 hours of play. By tomorrow I should have atleast 1500 gil coming from the auctions house on a 100 investment. I'm good :)
 
Okay, I'm a White Mage named Shipwreck in Sandy. I've never played before, so if anyone wants to provide any help, I'll be out there.
 
I've got a disc I don't need since I don't have a 360. If somebody wants to Paypal me like $2 I can throw it in a padded envelope with 3 or 4 stamps and get it in the mail tomorrow.

Edit: A couple of people have PM'd me for it, so it's gone.
 
I just picked up the disc at a local Albertson's. I've heard plenty of people picking it up from there. I suggest that's where you ninjas look.

When fighting for the first 4 levels dont wonder too fair away from the castle or home. Thats the thing thats killing newbies.
 
Hey If anyone wants to do a Linkshell it cost 8000 Gil. I'm planning on doing a CAG one so if anyone can pitch in some money so we can buy one that would be great. Send whatever you have to spare to Cyrril and I'll make sure you get a linkshell.

If you wanna throw your life away, then yes. :) I spent over 4 months playing this in 04 on the PS2. Like 3-4 hours a day. This shit is soo addicating.

Again if we are doing a linkshell. When you have some Gil to lend hit me up with a PM here or a message in the game. My name is Cyrril. 8K is all we need.

Wow so I was wrong. A linkshell costs 8K. I waited til the shop to open and checked the price. Now thats big bucks. Like I said though if we all pitch in we can get it in no time.
 
Just a quick question, how would you get it off the hard drive when the beta is over? I've looked all over the hard drive in the memory section of the dashboard, and don't see it anywhere. Also, I got my magazine at Sheetz, try looking there if you can't find it yet.

I saw an option for uninstall on the PlayOnline disc thing.
 
funny, I ran into one of the old people I used to play FFXI back in the day with. Community is a big part in what makes this game fun. The game itself is pretty dull most of the time honestly.......

man, the thought of raising gil again pisses me off lol
 
Ok here are some tips for the Beginngers.

1.) Stay close to your home town from levels 1-4. Only fight Decent Challanges or Lower. No Toughs.

2.) Before leaving the city get a singnit casted on you from a NPC right before the exit. The name of the guy will be something T.K. or something R.K. If you dont get a signit you wont get crystals.

Thats all I can think of right now.
 
pimpinc333, how do you add someone to your friends list? zewone and I just ran in to each other and we could be in the same party, but we couldn't find how invite one of us to the other's friend list.
 
Go to Party> Member List then send a message. Then the other person has to go to there Friends list and accept it. Ok BRB tonight time to work. Ill be on to play at like midnight if anyone wants to join me.
 
K just picked it up at a newstand, love how I paid 10.81 when 1 year subscription is 24.49..

maybe I should have just subscribed...


anyway magazine is pretty dull itself haha. Don't know why i'm gonna try this game after quitting so long ago but gah.... Katamari for PSP came in today also so i'm in conflict =/
 
I didn't skim this so sorry if this hasn't been asked...

I'm assuming that FFXI is going to look the same as it does on PS2/PC? What's the difference going to be on 360? Will it run at a higher resolution?

A lot to learn. If you never played an RPG before you'll probably hate it. So in your case it might not be worth it. Well I'm about to jump on by 12 est if anyone wants to party with a low level let me know. See ya.
 
Okay I'm now a lvl 3 white mage, Jiran in San d'Oria. I'm trying to do some of the early repeatable quest to get some cash flow.
