GamersGate Features
  • One biggest feature from GamersGate is the use of Blue Coins.
Blue Coins are GamersGate’s virtual currency, is a reward program earned by purchasing games or by simply participating in activities, like pre-ordering games, reviewing games, rating games, and becoming a game tutor; who helps other users with game issues or questions. These coins can then be used to purchase games.
  • You don't need to worry about region restriction. Unlike direct2drive or maybe for some games in steam most of gamersgate game its for worldwide direct download.
  • No need for a client, no need to be online to play a game (depend on the games DRM), just click and play.
  • Patches is usually faster than Steam.
  • You can re-download your game anytime, you can burn the installation files to a DVD.
  • There's no DRM for most of games including Paradox and Capcom titles, there no other and you can view what kind of DRM the game has before you buy that game, if it comes with Steam DRM then the page would say it comes with a 3rd party DRM and you need to install client for it.
  • You can find most of Steam games on GamersGate with a low price, register the key into your Steam account so you can download it from Steam later.
FAQS

Is Gamersgate similar to STEAM meaning do you have to run their application to be able to play the game?
Do you need an account to actually play the games? or is the account only used for buying?
No, GamersGate is not like Steam.. You have to set up an account, but it is only for purchase.
Is the downloading in Gamersgate done via a special proprietary application or can you simply use a browser to download it?
Is resuming download possible or do you need to download it all at once?
Downloading is done through a proprietary app that requires .NET 2.0. Yes you can pause and resume a download, there's an option for it.

Is the downloading format of the game a single file? one you can easily backup?
Is it a EXE file? Is it encrypted in any way?
Downloads may vary, Stalin Subway comes in .bin files, other games comes in full folder with encrpted setup file (.exe), these are decrypted with the GamersGate downloader. All files can be backed up like any others.
Is the installation of the game independent from Gamersgate meaning you just run it like any other normal installation wizard? or you need Gamersgate to install the game?
You need GamersGate downloader to install. Once the files are decrypted, games install normally. But if you really want, you can use copy-paste trick (I would explain this later) to get it fully decrypted without using GamersGate downloader

After the game is installed does it rely on Gamersgate for anything? or is it just like any normal PC Games, total independent?
No, it's just like any game.
Can the installation and running of the game be made totally offline and without any internet access?
Like you download it in one PC, backup the download file to a USB memory stick and transfer it to another PC with no internet access and install and play from there without any problem?
Games run offline, it depend on the games original DRM (GamersGate don't have their own DRM), if its using STEAM then you can visit Steam website and check their faqs about their DRM. A game can be backed up and moved without problem.

For more info visit GamersGate FAQS
TIPS

How to make GamersGate games setup file fully decrypted?
  • You need to do this step during the game installation process after you finish the download (choose to keep the file in the downloader option).
  • If you already choose to keep the temporary file in the end of download or you already keep the downloaded games, then you need to run the setup process via GamerGate downloader that came with the game once again (no need to install)
  • Make sure you know the downloaded games folder location (in most case its inside GamersGate temporary files folder), and browse for the game setup file/launcher (.exe). If you don't know which the file is, check the folder without running the downloader, look for the "launch" file (without extension), check the size and look for the same size .exe file inside the same folder during the setup process.
  • Copy-paste the .exe setup file to another place outside the folder.
  • Close the downloader and copy-paste/cut the setup file back to their original folder.
  • Now you can rename the folder to the game name, run the setup directly from inside of it (without using the downloader), make a back up or move it to another place anytime you want.

I believe Ubisoft's current DRM only requires that a game launch with an internet connection. It no longer requires a constant internet connection. I own Assassin's Creed 2 (purchased directly from Ubisoft's digital download site) and this is how it behaves now. Not perfect, but since I always have a connection anyway and I only game at home it's totally fine for me. Hope that helps!

A PERMANENT HIGH SPEED INTERNET CONNECTION AND CREATION OF A UBISOFT ACCOUNT ARE REQUIRED TO PLAY THIS VIDEO GAME AT ALL TIMES AND TO UNLOCK EXCLUSIVE CONTENT. SUCH CONTENT MAY ONLY BE UNLOCKED ONE SINGLE TIME WITH A UNIQUE KEY.

Unless this can be 1000% proven false, NO fuckING SALE!!!

EDIT: From the patch notes at Ubi.com for the latest AC2 patch: - Game can now be continued from the exact same point when connection is restored

Sounds like an always-on connection is still mandated.

For $5 I'll download a crack if it's a hassle

Im sure it's a pretty big download I dont think I'll get it done on time.

Seems pretty straight forward though, You still require an Internet connection to authenticate when the game is booted, everytime.
Effing retarded. Does it look that much better that I'll not want to play my X360 copy?
Ask some CAG users who already bought it on Steam during Summer Sale, it has the same DRM. and if you really worry about the DRM, its only $4.99 for God sake? You got the Deluxe cheaper than any digital download sale before.

Can someone confirm that DRM only requires a connection upon booting?

And also, is the digital deluxe stuff worth the extra buck and change?

Not quite:

So like I said, it's just upon launch of the game. The Steam forum post below mentions this as well as the fact that even Steam hasn't updated the info on their own game page.

According to wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassin's_Creed_2

"The DRM was modified in December 2010 as the game no longer requires a constant Internet connection while playing. Instead, the player has to be connected to the Internet every time the game is launched"

Cool, thanks for posting that, Bonobos.

Regarding the game, I felt that I needed a gamepad to play. I had a hard time with the combat using the mouse and keyboard. Just my $0.02. Otherwise I thought it was fun (this was my first AC game).

I don't have my gaming pc right now but i want t obuy settlers 7, can i buy it on this computer and download it when i get back to my regular computer?

7/14 UPDATE - GG unsweetned their deal on the Mac version of Settlers 7 Deluxe Gold: Settlers 7 Deluxe Gold Edition (Mac) $6.49 $25.97, but it still looks like it will be on sale until midnight on Sunday.

FYI for the Mac users here at CAG: Settlers 7 Deluxe Gold Edition (Mac) is $6.49 at Gamersgate!

Settlers 7 Deluxe Gold Edition (Mac) $6.49

For once, a Mac title gets a lower price than the Windows title. And, if I'm reading the web page right, the Mac deal runs until midnight (PST) on Sunday (7/17).
If it (and the other games) activated on Steam it would be worth it
Maybe not for this one but many games from GamerGate activated on Steam. For me its not a big deal, I have Steam and still I use another direct download service like Amazon, D2D, GoG.
Why should stuck in one service if you can find another cheap bargain from the other?
This game's DRM is a crime against video games and humanity in general.
Lol, Yeah Ubisoft kinda suck with their DRM, but nevermind if I want the games I'll buy it because its cheap. But if its for the normal price? I would said No...
Also got an email, 70% for ruse, splinter cell and dawn of discovery, not 75% unfortunately
No, it maybe 70% in email promo but Gamersgate always make it 75% like the last title :)
Check today deals and you'll see it.
Nice. Dawn of Discovery will be mine!
Actually I kinda hesitate to get this one, since it has TAGES DRM. But seriously the game definitely very good in quality so I can't forget about the DRM. I heard that Ubi already patched the retail version and removed the DRM completely, lets hope they gonna patch the digital download version as well.

I think I'll buy it when the sale is live!

Thanks, mattcube64! From the reviews I've read and viewed, the game seems more action-oriented than other SC games. They also mirror what you mentioned, that it's a good game on its own, but held against previous SC games it's not what people were hoping for or expecting.

I think I may just bite on the deal since it's cheap and the presentation and difficulty seem fairly friendly to a SC noob like me. I know it's not true SC, but this looks like a good jumping-in point. The GG Deluxe version includes the DLC as well as the soundtrack (Steam's Deluxe version doesn't mention anything about the soundtrack).

Definitely worth the price Neo.

I bought it on its release day for full price (+ $20 TRU giftcard, I think...); but I was certainly happy with my purchase. A very enjoyable action romp. Only thing I'd knock it for are strange difficulty spikes, some goofy cut scenes, and it's pretty short (about 7 hours or so).

If you like it, though, I HIGHLY encourage you to give the original or Chaos Theory a shot. Chaos Theory is an almost perfect game, and leaps and bounds better than Conviction.

Yeah since it's cheap I'm thinking to buy this one too no matter how bad the reviews are, deluxe edition seems worth with the soundtrack.
My rules for Ubisoft is that I would buy their games if the price been dropped to 10 buck or lower, it because I hate their DRM, thats why I keep their games away from my Steam account. Who need multiple DRM anyways?

Can't wait for tomorrow sale, Anno/Dawn of Discovery probably gonna be one game that I would play for months.

Wow, the soundtrack to Conviction is 978MB! I haven't downloaded it entirely yet, but I think that's a (good) indication of lots of tracks, high quality tracks, or both.

Regarding tomorrow's sale, is Dawn of Discovery a difficult game to get into?

SC: Conviction is a good game, but a step backward in some regards to other previous SC games.
I miss the body hiding, dammit...

Same question regarding Dawn of Discovery. Based on the video I watched, it seemed to be rather complicated.
Same question regarding Dawn of Discovery. Based on the video I watched, it seemed to be rather complicated.
If it's anything like the previous game, 1701, it starts out simple and gradually builds up. Late game can get complicated, but everything comes gradually so the early game is not going to beat you over the head. I personally loved 1701 so I'll be picking Dawn of Discovery up once the sale drops.

I would really recommend Dawn of Discovery to anyone who enjoys city building kind of games. I havent gotten very far into it so I cant speak to its complexity, but it seemed very manageable to me in the several hours I have played so far. The interface is very slick too which helps in the control areas. Also, it seems to give the player a lot of time to do whatever it is you want to do so there is no rushing in this game which makes it pretty relaxing to play. $7.50 is an incredible price. I just bought it a week or two ago and though I got a good deal at $12.50.

Thanks for the recommendations as well as the TAGES link, folks. I think the DRM is reasonable in this case, particularly since i don't reinstall my OS frequently and I only play on my gaming laptop.

Dawn of Discovery Gold is currently going for 4.99....I picked it up because that is a spectacular price. May be a price mistake as they may have done 75 percent off of their already sale price of 19.95.

Its not a price mistake, Dawn of Discovery also known as Anno 1401 oustside US. You got Dawn of Discovery when you're in US and you got Anno 1401 if you're not.

Seriously, its really $4.99!!
Hahha.... I'm gonna ask my friend in US to buy me one and send it as a gift.
Thanks guys! :p

Their US store gonna shock you off :)

Thanks for the posts about Dawn, I'm thinking of grabbing it. I love city-builders (sim city, cities in motion, heck, I even loved the first 3 settlers, ceasar, and pharoh(egypt? been forever) games). The DRM is fair-but-annoying... I don't enjoy the idea of having to get support to unlock my game because I added a harddrive. :p But forr $5 I'll probably grab this. Anyone have some awesome youtube link or something showcasing why I should spend my money? After all, that $5 is good for, I dunno, five $1 meritline usb/hdmi cable deals. LOL
