GamersGate Features
  • One biggest feature from GamersGate is the use of Blue Coins.
Blue Coins are GamersGate’s virtual currency, is a reward program earned by purchasing games or by simply participating in activities, like pre-ordering games, reviewing games, rating games, and becoming a game tutor; who helps other users with game issues or questions. These coins can then be used to purchase games.
  • You don't need to worry about region restriction. Unlike direct2drive or maybe for some games in steam most of gamersgate game its for worldwide direct download.
  • No need for a client, no need to be online to play a game (depend on the games DRM), just click and play.
  • Patches is usually faster than Steam.
  • You can re-download your game anytime, you can burn the installation files to a DVD.
  • There's no DRM for most of games including Paradox and Capcom titles, there no other and you can view what kind of DRM the game has before you buy that game, if it comes with Steam DRM then the page would say it comes with a 3rd party DRM and you need to install client for it.
  • You can find most of Steam games on GamersGate with a low price, register the key into your Steam account so you can download it from Steam later.
FAQS

Is Gamersgate similar to STEAM meaning do you have to run their application to be able to play the game?
Do you need an account to actually play the games? or is the account only used for buying?
No, GamersGate is not like Steam.. You have to set up an account, but it is only for purchase.
Is the downloading in Gamersgate done via a special proprietary application or can you simply use a browser to download it?
Is resuming download possible or do you need to download it all at once?
Downloading is done through a proprietary app that requires .NET 2.0. Yes you can pause and resume a download, there's an option for it.

Is the downloading format of the game a single file? one you can easily backup?
Is it a EXE file? Is it encrypted in any way?
Downloads may vary, Stalin Subway comes in .bin files, other games comes in full folder with encrpted setup file (.exe), these are decrypted with the GamersGate downloader. All files can be backed up like any others.
Is the installation of the game independent from Gamersgate meaning you just run it like any other normal installation wizard? or you need Gamersgate to install the game?
You need GamersGate downloader to install. Once the files are decrypted, games install normally. But if you really want, you can use copy-paste trick (I would explain this later) to get it fully decrypted without using GamersGate downloader

After the game is installed does it rely on Gamersgate for anything? or is it just like any normal PC Games, total independent?
No, it's just like any game.
Can the installation and running of the game be made totally offline and without any internet access?
Like you download it in one PC, backup the download file to a USB memory stick and transfer it to another PC with no internet access and install and play from there without any problem?
Games run offline, it depend on the games original DRM (GamersGate don't have their own DRM), if its using STEAM then you can visit Steam website and check their faqs about their DRM. A game can be backed up and moved without problem.

For more info visit GamersGate FAQS
TIPS

How to make GamersGate games setup file fully decrypted?
  • You need to do this step during the game installation process after you finish the download (choose to keep the file in the downloader option).
  • If you already choose to keep the temporary file in the end of download or you already keep the downloaded games, then you need to run the setup process via GamerGate downloader that came with the game once again (no need to install)
  • Make sure you know the downloaded games folder location (in most case its inside GamersGate temporary files folder), and browse for the game setup file/launcher (.exe). If you don't know which the file is, check the folder without running the downloader, look for the "launch" file (without extension), check the size and look for the same size .exe file inside the same folder during the setup process.
  • Copy-paste the .exe setup file to another place outside the folder.
  • Close the downloader and copy-paste/cut the setup file back to their original folder.
  • Now you can rename the folder to the game name, run the setup directly from inside of it (without using the downloader), make a back up or move it to another place anytime you want.
Victoria Complete Pack for $8.67 (85% off) seems like a good daily deal. Anyone have experience with this one?

Thanks
I'm curious about this collection also. How is it? I have 8 hours left to decide!

Judging from what I've been able to determine, it's very involved and realistic re: the economics.

Sounds like it might be TOO complicated for me, so I'll probably pass.

Well, Monday has come and nearly gone (it's almost 7pm Seattle PST time) and no email update or website update on the Dawn of Discovery Gold keys. I sent them an email earlier this afternoon, so I'll update here if I get another response from them.

*SIGH*

I do think they're still waiting for Ubisoft to resolve this issue as well.
Keep posting the update :)

Its kinda like Dawn of Discovery but the economic is more advanced. 85% off sounds tempting but since I already busy with anno 1404 (DoD) I'll probably would pass.

If anyone's looking to pick up Magicka or some of the DLC during the sale, they are also on sale for the same 50% off at Green Man Gaming. If you've never bought from GMG, find and use a referral link, and once you spend $5, they will credit you another $5.

Magicka plus one cheap DLC is $5.46, and you can pick up the other relevant DLCs using your free five bucks. Magicka is a Steamworks game, so it's easy to just add the key and download.

They do have annoying problems with checkout sometimes, and you may have to pay currency exchange fee on your CC. Letting your cart time out and trying again will usually resolve any issues.

FYI, this morning most people seem to have gotten their second registration code for the base game in the Dawn of Discovery Gold Edition. However, it still does not work and you'll get a registration failure message if you try to use it with the base game. There are posts in Game Tutor from others with this problem (including me), so hang tight for more information.

I should also mention that I haven't received an actual email from GamersGate about the new code. I sent them an email, so for now don't use the new code until you yourself receive an actual true email confirmation that the codes are active at the publisher end.

So... close...

Yeah, I got second Dawn of Discovery Gold Edition serial code and doesn't work. I found topic from another website, looks like GG respond to one of emails.

EDIT: Sorry, old quote. I was hoping some good news. Feels like another dead end......

quote:
Unfortunately, not yet. Monday would probably be the day, Ubisoft seems to sent us some wrong keys again and we want to make sure they work.

Meanwhile, i wish to make it less painful, and managed to get approval on adding the based game as a separate product to your account, so you can use it until we fix the gold edition. Hope you can have fun with it, while we wait for the resolution from Ubisoft. Please excuse us for the inconvenience this has brought you.

That's good to see, ShadowJT. Thanks for sharing.

EDIT: Looks like that post was on the 23rd. It's now the 27th.

EDIT 2: Woohoo! I checked my GamersGate account again an hour ago and I was given a free copy of the original DoD with an all-new license key! And this time it actually works! I still haven't received an email from them since late last week, but right now I don't care :)

Here are some tips from me:

1) Download and install Dawn of Discovery Gold Edition (no need to install DoD since Gold includes the original game and Venice).
2) Register Venice if you haven't done so yet, as well as let the game auto-update a couple of times. Close the program.
3) Launch Dawn of Discovery separately and register the game using the license key given in the separate DoD listing on GamersGate.
4) After launching, DoD may check for your password. This password is not the registration key! It's your Ubisoft password is you created an online profile for multiplayer and/or uploading saves, etc.

Hope that helps!

EDIT 3: To get to the tutorial, launch Dawn of Discovery and click on Quickstart. You'll play an elementary scenario that gives you building basics as well as sailing and transporting basics. Finally! :D

EDIT 4: Finally got my email confirming that they did indeed gift me the core copy of DoD with new registration code this morning. Thanks to GamersGate support for their help and a creative solution, and boo to Ubisoft who shot themselves in the foot with a game bundle that shouldn't have been so hard to unlock... months (a year?) after it was initially digitally launched. :p Well, that's it for updates from me in this thread. PM me if you have any questions!

UPDATE: It seems that not everyone is getting a new base game like I did. If you still can't register yours put in a support ticket to GamersGate so they're aware of the situation.

Below is the message that appears below my DoDGE (oh MAN, I totally did not see that acronym until now, hah!) registration keys in my GamersGate profile:

Update!
We are currently working with Ubisoft to get the new keys to work. We are truly sorry for the inconvenience, and as far as we see it, the resolution may be that a separate base game will be added to those who have not managed to get the base game to work. We are doing our best and waiting for the resolution 24/7. We hope on your understanding.

Good luck to everyone!

I'm still playing that game, NeoGutsman! lol
This game is so much fun... And its great to see how GamersGate support been working to solved this issue. I would say boo to Ubisoft too, this is why I keep all their games away from my Steam library.

Oh yeah just reminder for another gamersgate user:
If you got problem with serial number or game activation please DON'T use the games tutor feature to ask for help, send a ticket directly to their Customer Service instead.

Nice! Just bought the magicka final frontier dlc and it activated just fine with steam. Thanks gamersgate! This was my first time buying with you but it definitely wont be my last.

I got that update but I don't have a version of Dawn of Discovery vanilla
I wrote customer support and now each time I do and send it it refreshes to the same page without anything on it.

This is not making me excited to do business with these people again

If you have Gold then you have vanilla PLUS Venice. Click on Start and bring up your list of programs. Dawn of Discovery and Dawn of Discovery Venice are listed as two separate programs, each needing separate registration codes.

I'm not sure what you mean by you getting that update... Do you mean that you do have Dawn of Discovery by itself listed in your games list in your GamersGate.com account? If so, just copy that license key and use it to register DoD. The second code given to people under DoD: Gold does not work, period.

I've had nothing but success with GamersGate.com after several game purchases, and despite this game's issues I'm willing to still buy from them again. I've scoured forums on SomethingAwful.com, SlickDeals.net, GameFAQs, etc. and this has been an issue with the DoD:G game across several publishers, not just GamersGate. I'm only frustrated with Ubisoft, personally.

Anyway, I hope I understood and answered your question properly. If not, let me know and I'll be happy to help again.

EDIT: Oh, sorry, I think I see what you were trying to say. You mean that they haven't given you a copy of vanilla DoD and you're also having trouble even submitting a support ticket to customer support? I bypassed their online form and just sent [email protected] an email directly. Just make sure to include the order number and game name in the subject field so they can more easily assist you.

Hope that helps! :)

I don't mind the fact that they have problems with keys, I mind that more then a week passed with no update from Gamersgate.

I got an Email that said it would be fixed that day or the next and then over a week passes before I hear anything else

I just want something done as far as updates, I don't mind waiting for a game

I can't believe I did miss that price error tag on Dungeons! T.T
crazy price on Tropico
anyone knows if we can activate it on steam?
Nope, its the retail version of Tropico 3. But the hell with steam or not, the crazy price is so tempting! :p

I bought 7 games for $2.71... Or at least I think I did. Right after they took my money (and paypal is charged), everything stopped working. I can't get any page on their site to load.
Ugh, was just about to check out and AvP went from .17 to 1.99, looks like a lot of these prices were wrong and they're fixing them.

what price error? it is.. omg less than an iOS app haha
Man... A while ago Splinter Cell: Conviction Deluxe is only $3.12!

I think their site getting hammered.. Oh yeah check the UK site! It has different kind of games were on sale and some of the games cheaper than in the US site.

The payment could not be completed (Too many orders in a short time), please use another credit card or payment option. If the problem persists, please contact [email protected].

bah, they need to get their stuff fixed. but it does look promising although most of the games seem to be kinda old (~ > 3 years)

Yeah, I bought few games using bluecoins and it still pending. Don't forget there's still summer daily deals, everyday for 4 weeks (28 games)

Well Disciples Platinum, Space Empires 4 and 5, and Ghost Master for a whopping $1.78 is a good way to see if I like the genre's 'eh? Well minus Ghost Master, but hey, $0.16, why not??

argh, lucky :(
In for:

Syberia - $2.50
and
Sid Meier's Railroads! - $1.84

There's a lot of chaff in the Summer deals this week but those are two outstanding older games at incredible prices.

Still mulling over Revenge of the Titans for $4.48. I think I might want that one on Steam instead.
Then I don't suppose you want to know that Syberia was $0.32 earlier for quite a long time... Anyway, here's what I bought:

Rat Hunter 1.25
Planet Alcatraz 2.50
Big Mutha Truckers 2 1.35
Alien Shooter Gold Pack 0.94 (which doesn't include Zombie shooter, like it claims)
Post Mortem 0.63
Alien vs Predators Classic 2000 0.13
Broken Sword Triple Pack 0.10 (can't get BS3 to install)
Jagged Alliance 0.45
Street Racing Syndicate 0.94
Guilty Gear Isuka 0.32
Disciples Sacred Lands Gold 0.14
Sid Meier's Railroads! - $1.84
You can get Sid Meier's Railroads! £0.64 (half the US price) in their UK Store. I don't know if it because the price mistake or not, I found some titles cheaper in the other store so its worth to check.

Time to spend some bluecoins!
  • After you complete the purchase go write some review (300 BC if you're the 1st one, 150 BC normal)
  • Rated the games (50 BC)
you can get 200 BC ($0.20) from most games.

If you bought a bundle, check if it comes with a separated download. If yes then you can do the trick above on each items.

I got Disciple Platinum for $0.81 (810 BC) (4 items/bundle) and got 1000 BC after some work. lol

Visit Gamersgate UK and login into your GG account. You're going to be charged in GBP after the payment.

Also Titan Quest Gold is a bit cheaper (£3.38) than in their US site!

Yeah, I was getting pounds today, too.

...Er, I mean I was also seeing GBPs instead of US dollars today. [insert Michael Scott joke here]

This happened to me once. I clicked on "Offers" and then everything showed up in dollars and stayed that way.

Do you get exp/coins for adding friends to your friend list?
-edit.

If we do add me on GG as JD-Smith & I'll add you.

Dawn of Discovery update:

My second code "Serial 2" changed to "Original Game Codes" and the new one was valid for the original game. Looks like it may finally be fixed.

Another few cheaper games found on the UK site:
Theatre of War 3 Korea, £0.78, regular price £24.95
Sid Meier's Railroads, £0.78 (I know the US site has it for cheap too, but this is even cheaper still)
XIII Century - Blood of Europe, £1.25, regular price £19.95

@Remfin: Awesome! I just checked and I got it too!
