1000 BC = $1 (USD)

I can't quite understand...

You had to buy from Amazon to get each promo credit (and be clairvoyant enough to know how many promo credits you'd need for their unannounced prices). It wasn't just "$2.49". It was $7.49, and $2.49 if you were one of the ones with that particular promo credit on your account.

Just like SR3 was free at Gamersgate... if you happened to have 2,000BC and the 20% discount (or just 2,500BC) on your account. ;)

Spending BC or USD =/= "free"

The Amazon promo was if you'd bought a THQ game in the prior 6 weeks... which I had done without the incentive

I'd also emphasize that the Amazon one was the full pack (all DLC)..

There were loads of great deals to get the promo credit from. I bought 10+ games/dlc during that period so I had plenty to use. Amazon price matched a lot of deals so it was pretty difficult to not find a single deal that would grant you the promo credit..

Blue coins are entirely different, it's GamersGate's currency so you used real currency to buy SR3..

Yes, so not everyone had that promo (I ended up with three of those vouchers, if memory serves - it was a fantastic sale). It's like saying SR3 Full Package was free on Amazon, IF you're American and were in the States at the time, IF you had the promo, and IF they'd messed up one of your orders and put $2.49 into your account by way of apology.

asheskitty, you seem to be saying: $20 for a Blu-Ray Player? Terrible! I got one for free with my $5,000 TV! And I was going to buy that TV anyway!

Do you understand the difference?

I got Far Cry 3 bundled with Far Cries 1 & 2 last year for $8.68 due to what turned out to be a Gamestop price error. By your logic I should be saying that any Far Cry 3 price over ~$8.50 isn't any good!

(And this is a different point, as I'm not exactly talking about Gamersgate here at all, but Blue Coins are given out for buying games or for reviewing/rating games or helping people out on their GameTutor system or buddying up with a friend when you buy something by using each other's GGtag - why are you using real money to buy all of your Blue Coins? spoderman, if Blue Coins are "real currency" then where else can I spend them apart from GG?)

Wow, I just wrote a lot over what seems to be a nitpicky point. :p I'm sorry! It just ground my gears that this point seemed to be flying completely over your head!

I'll just highlight two little deals during that period...
Prototype 1+2+DLC - $7.50 (These have never been near this cheap since, this pre-dated that credit announcement and was backfilled)
Tantalizing THQ Medley - $10 (this was well before the mind-blowing Humble THQ Bundle)

For the record, I don't own a TV, or bluray player/drive/console.

I know. I got that Prototype pack. :D It was only $7.50 after the coupon, though, if memory serves...?

That THQ Medley was also great for a lot of CAGs who were completely new to PC gaming, but I think most of us already had over half of those games, surely!

How about... "$10 for Windows 7?! Not good! Mine was FREE with my PC! And I was going to buy the PC anyway!"

Actually I didn't own any of the THQ Medley. (execept, maybe a free Metro 2033 key prior... but I'd need to dig more to say for sure -- steamcommunity is down atm, can't check account history)

I said it's real currency, not universal currency.. Just like Steam wallet is Steam's form of currency. I also never said I'm using real money to buy all of my BC. I don't, I get most of my BC from buying games and rating them, but saying you got a game for free because you used BC isn't technically correct. That's like me saying I got a game for free after spending $5 real money on it. Doesn't make much sense then either because you're using some form of currency.

no, it was 7.49 without any coupons back when they were doing that weekly internet show (last October or November)

and on getting the $5 dollar credits, you only had to buy cheap ass dlc (bought like 20 darksider 2 dlc)

It's like getting it for free after buying a $5000 TV ;)

Ah, OK. So an Amazon $5 coupon isn't a form of currency, because it's a coupon..?

My head hurts. I lack the patience for this.

@sunasun I wasn't in America shortly before the Christmas sale, so wasn't aware the Prototype pack had been $7.50 sans coupon from Amazon. I guess it wasn't such a great deal when I got it for $7.49 with the coupon, then. :(

to mr penguin

and how the hell is a $5000 tv comparable to 50 cent dlc anyway?

need to get back to idling for cards, I ran out of bacon and moonshine again.

How is a brand new game + all dlc and it's predecessor even at 12.49 without coupon and 7.49 after coupon not a fucking awesome deal. Maybe I'm tired but not sure I'm following your logic here.

You could change those $5 coupons into real cash which I did often so I do agree they could become real currency with a little effort.

Haven't you ever used a larger example to help explain simple concepts to younger children?
actually no, and besides it's condescending when done to adults. I think I'll stop here before I cause half this thread to get deleted. good night

Actually, as you know, the example price was completely irrelevant - you were focusing on that in order to joke with me. Yes, we'll say "joke", because that sounds more pleasant. ;)

Edit: I'm sorry, I do seem to have dragged this thread entirely off-topic! I was just trying to make a small point about the number of conditional circumstances required for a deal (region, coupon-requirement, etc) affecting the overall availability (and therefore quality) of a deal. With our ~20 posts we seem to have established beyond any doubt that this was the third time SR3 has been very cheap, but nevertheless it wasn't a good deal this time.

Or saved up all those 300 Blue Coin kick-backs from your purchases. Over the last 18 months.

I just alerted them, I said off topic posts were cluttering up all the shitty gamersgate non deals
I missed Heroes of Derp Fighter 2 for 25% off because of this off-topic clutter. Now I'm quitting CAG forever.

The BC kick-back you get is supposed to expire after 12 months, although I've never kept BC around long enough to experience that.. it's still real GG currency either way.

A real CAG knows almost nothing is really free, but I know it's easy to get into the "this isn't real money" mindset.  Why do you think gift cards are so popular.  If you had $50 bucks you might not buy that hot dog toaster thing from Sears.  But since you have a $25 gift card you say "That's the best thing ever invented" and bring it home to let it collect dust.* **

*Disclaimer:  I do not own a hot dog toaster...yet

**If I liked your post in this thread, don't get too excited.  Just marking those I plan to report.

BC are the same as the green man gaming credit, it's still store money, and it's still free money in some cases, I think BC it's pretty cool, but that damn thing keeps messing with mi head... "Oh, just 2k more coins and you can get this game!" "look, it's cheap! buy more coins to get it cheaper!"

oh snap found a deal on Gamersgate

Hearts of Iron 3 50% off

only 4.98

Hey, I have that toaster with the egg steamer. I bought it cause it had great reviews, and costed as much as a bare-bones toaster. It also heats sausages.

Edit: I bought it during a promo overlap of B3G1 free + 20% off, so it ended up costing me around $25.

Why did you buy 3 toasters? ;)

New Dalies

R.U.S.E.: The Art of Deception Collection (w/DLC) - $4.00 (75%, steam)

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light - $2.50 (75%,steam)

Disciples III: Gold -$7.50 (75%, SecuROM)

still waiting on the 4th daily

Also..

Command and Conquer Ultimate Collection - $10 (50%, origin)
Yay @ a handful of 75% off deals.

I own all of those except RUSE, though.

Not interested in RUSE.

Bleh @ EA not going 75% off on C&C Ultimate (for others).

A lot of bang-for-the-buck if you dig C&C, though.

Thing is - I own from Retail C+C Saga (C+C Anniversary X + C+C3:TW) & C+C3: Kane's Wrath & C&C: Red Alert 3 already.

and sob, I just bought RUSE @ $2.50...

phew, I didn't, it was all a horrible waking nightmare
Last one is Simbin's Race Injection compilation, Steam key for $7.49 (75%). So I guess you're the right person to ask Ash - is this worth it?

The problem with those specialized appliances is unless you really really like hotdogs they just take a ton of room and you rarely use them.   We have certain appliances on the counter we use frequently and the rest get put in another room or cabinet.  Once that happens we use them even less.  Then I start questioning using that $50 gift card at sears.

The Rockin' Dead is 95% off! -- Of course, it's been indie bundled before so that's probably intentional.  Also, the straight $1.00 price tag is a clue.

Is it worth getting? Yes. Is this a good price? No.

If this interests you, Keep your eye on the SimBin Mega Bundle. It was just $20 on the SSS, last year it lacked a couple older titles and was ~$24. Totally worth it for a nice big pack of sim racers.

That's the logic she used to and tbh I really shouldn't be eating hot dogs that often anyway.

Overpriced. The Adventure 4 Pack had it, Gray Matter, Black Mirror 2, and Alter Ego for $1.30

I still have a copy of that for sale if anyone is really interested.

I was looking at the Mega Bundle. Wonder if $10 would be a pipe dream? Otherwise I might just get Race Injection if it hits 75% off on Steam
