Current Sales Deals

All Playstation 1 games $2 (both used & new)

GR is clearing out their stock of Playstation one games for $2 a piece. Get them while they last.

DEAD: Ended 8/7/06 Trade 3 or More Games & Get an Extra $5 for Each Game

Receive an extra $5 PER GAME when you trade in 3 or more games. Games must have a used price of $7.99 or more to qualify for the extra $5. Also, 2005 and 2k5 sports games and newer WILL count for the bonus.

The employee must adjust the trade-in price of the games manually, but there is an option in the computer specifically set up for this deal. It is option #2 and will say something along the lines of "Trade 3 or More Games & Get an Extra $5 for Each Game". The employee must do this for each of the games that qualify.

75% off Select New Games & New Accessories

Please note: The prices listed are the 75% off price.

This sale is also good at regular Blockbusters (YMMV at franchised locations), but your selection there is obviously going to be limited compared to GameRush stores.

Reported Trade-In Prices

Trade-In Price Wiki

2 reports of it ending today. I am going to call around now. I had one more stack I might have to run up last minute...

Edit: Just called the 3 stores in my area: 1 said it was over tonight, 1 clueless store said it will be going until thursday at least, and 1 said it is going on for another week. So just to be on the safe side i might have to make a trip. Anyone else call around?

None of the five stores in my area know anything about it being over tonight, and I'll be pissed if it is. I had a few more games that I wanted to trade, and didn't read about the possible deal ending until after 9pm. I went to one of the two locations that takes trades until 10pm, and wouldn't you know it, there were only two clerks on duty and neither had been trained to handle trades.

So, they called the other Clearwater location to confirm that they trade until 10pm, and I rushed over there. I arrived at 9:45pm, and the manager refused to take my games. He said that he has to be completely done with the paperwork at the stroke of 10, and he couldn't possibly fill out a one-page trade form for three games in fifteen minutes.

I think I'm done with GameRush once this deal's over, whenever it happens. It's just not worth the frustration.

Update on some things I traded. Pre-bonus on games.
DOA 4= $28.50
Table Tennis= $22
Top Spin 2= $22
Fifa 06: RTTWC= $22
360 memory card= $9 (didn't trade this in yet.)

I didn't bother going to for a trade tonight. If its over its over. Most of the items I was planning to trade at this point I am trying to finish up first.

If GameRush doesn't get Dead Rising in, I'm going to be VERY pissed. It's a really hyped up and popular game, how could they NOT get it?! :bomb:

They just don't show any orders for any games in the system anymore. Whatever shows up, shows up. I doubt they would not getting on this game in. Now disgaea 2 you won't see at GR probably. For about 4-5 weeks now the system stop showing on order. Rental copies aren't even showing up in the system ahead of time...

Well that is good to hear, I guess. Hopefully they will get some copies of Dead Rising in.
Having said all that, he did give me my credit back "just this once"..
Well, at least you got that much. Still, I imagine the bad taste will take longer to fade. :whistle2:|

Did you file a BBB complaint using words like 'stealing', 'fraud' and 'contract breach'? If it happens to anyone else, that would be a good way to nip this in the bud. It isn't the customer's fault that they couldn't program their computer to grant the bonus automatically, and the register-jockey didn't follow the details of the deal. If there is a price mistake at your local grocery, they can't just arbitrarily charge a couple more dollars to your credit card to make up the difference.

In fact, except that this thread made us rather knowledgable about the deals at GR, most non-CAGers probably don't know much about the restrictions on the $5 bonus. The small print on the sign is rather small, and most of the stores have it placed somewhere high or otherwise out-of-reach.
Traded in a set of 3 games at my local GR. The employee there is a member of CAG as well.

360 - Dynasty Warriors $22
360 - Fight Club $35
Cube- Mario Gold $1 (Thanks Gooznez!)

Also asked about Dead Rising...showing none ordered for sale or rent!
Boo
Theres a Fight Club game for 360?
Theres a Fight Club game for 360?
I wonder what game got $35....no Fight Club. Someone has Brad Pitt and Ed Norton sandwich on the brain ;)
I wonder what game got $35....no Fight Club. Someone has Brad Pitt and Ed Norton sandwich on the brain ;)
He probably meant Fight Night Round 3.

I hope the promo isn't really over. I've been wanting to unload some 360 games so I can get Dead Rising and BfMEII, I just never had the time.

Well, that's exactly my point - I've never seen or even heard of any other retail outlet charging people after the fact for a mistake made by an employee. (Imagine if Circuit City went back to the Buy 2 Get 1 free $19.99 and under game deal and fixed all those transactions and charged the difference to my credit card!) It is especially bad to do the "adjustment" without even telling the customer. I only found out, 3 weeks later I might add, because I went through my receipts after my balance was a bit less than I thought it should be. I found another $5 missing from a Blockbuster that closed down too - that is gone for good I guess (it was a mistake on their part to keep the $5 in the account - they were trying to credit it to a value card but screwed up).

But, if the guy wants to enforce this policy, he better damn well inform customers after he does it. I came in and put down 2 preorders just 2 or 3 days after he "adjusted" my account and I talked to him for quite a bit about games - he didn't mention the "adjustment" to me at all. That, to me, was the worst part of it. But I was very friendly about the whole thing - my approach was simply that I got a printed trade quote (which I still have and showed him), looked it over, and said that would be fine. Then I signed the trade agreement and they took my games. Had I known I would get just 50 cents for one of the games I would NEVER have traded it. I asked if I could get either the $15 back or the games back and he said he'd have to check on that. I gave it a week, then checked my account and (surprise, surprise) there was no change. Finally, I found him again yesterday. He did say the Loss Prevention guy told him he could give the games back (and take the measly leftover credit) but I think he just thought it was easier to give me the $15.

But if he really wants to do this sort of thing what he needs to do is take the games in question, set them aside, and the next time the customer comes in say the trade was a mistake and undo it THEN, in front of the customer, and give the games back. Then no one is getting screwed over or having things done behind their backs... Keeping the games and putting them out for sale while removing the credit is just not right.

Anyway, if this was any other store I'd pursue it further (you bet if an EB did this to me it would go up to the DM). But for one, I just don't want to deal with Blockbuster, and two, I don't need to draw any more attention to myself or piss off the manager any further. With the trade deal ending I'm just going to lay low, pick up preorders if they ever come in, and try to preorder the PS3 and Wii when the time comes (which would be the number 1 reason to stay on the good side of the manager).

I hear ya. You'd think with the whole "not quite making a dent in EB/GS's marketshare" thing, customer service would take priority over losing a couple of bucks. I mean, their own deals show how little they value profitable trading. ;)

Still, I'd like to see them try something like that in Florida. They have to freakin' take our thumprint on a pawn shop form to trade in games, which shows the value of each game after bonus. Short of a blood sample and a notary public, that's a pretty iron-clad agreement. I don't think I traded in anything during the +5 that shouldn't have gotten the bonus, though, so I can't imagine I'd be that particular guinea pig.

The guy at the GR near me said they should be getting them in by the 11th.

They don't quite go through that here - but they are required to check ID and have you sign as part of the pawn shop laws (once when I was at a regular BB doing a trade the manager let the clerk know that pawn shop laws are the reason for the ID check, etc). So that should work both ways - the trade is final in either case (I can't come back in later and say I made a mistake trading a game for example and get it back).

Plenty of CAG's have gotten the bonus on GBA games and plenty more have gotten the bonus on games that sell for less than $7.99 (for example getting 50 cent trades bumped up to $5.50 when the game sells for $6 - $7). Like I said, unless you are trading all Total Overdose and the CC $8.96 games, you don't always know if the game falls under the restrictions - and it is not our job to do that anyway!

ANYWAY, a moot point now as we are back to having no deals any more. Did they really yank the $5 promo and not replace it with anything? No used game sale even (Buy 2 Get 1 free, 25% off, anything)? I'm not sure what they are up to with the promos, but they need to have SOMETHING running all the time if they want to keep themselves in the game, so to speak :D.

Super lucky i miss TRU deal but i got lucky at GR today. I scored Dynasty warriors (PS2) $8 - 5.XX store credit = $2.XX off my credit card. It's the best deal ever :)
The promo ending...oops. I wanted to get rid of some 360 games (NHL, NBA, and possibly Oblivion)
If you're willing to trade NHL, I might be interested.
The guy at the GR near me said they should be getting them in by the 11th.
That's the same BS I got when I called them last night...

IIRC, they usually say Friday for every game. They used to get (and put out for sale) all their games in the Sunday before they were supposed to come out, but sadly it seems that with the company going downhill, the release dates/quantities followed with it.

Yes, the deal is confirmed dead at my local GR (Greenville, SC). I traded some games last night and got the extra $5. Today, the manager said the employee shouldn't have done it because the deal actually ended Monday.

Unlike others, however, this is a good manager who didn't rush to take back my extra $15 in credit. He just said I got lucky. There needs to be more managers at GR who are actually good at customer service.

Hehe, no kidding. I didn't even think of that (trading after the deal ended and having the credit yanked back). I'm sure that would happen to me. I know there are a few employees that would have done the deal for me yesterday (or possibly today even). But I'm not even going to think of trying that .

But that's the way it should be. The manager says you are lucky, then goes and informs his employee that the deal is over (or of the specific restrictions). Next time, the employee knows, and the deal is done properly and everyone is happy.

So, anyway, is there really nothing to replace the deal? I'm actually eyeing a few used games and I wish they'd bring back a Buy 2 Get 1 free!

The manager tagged guy at my local flat out lied to me, said the release date was Thursday for EB and Best Buy and that they'd have it Friday. I kinda shook my head in disbelief and walked out, called my EB and was told that all they had were sold by 2pm and that they're expecting a resupply tomorrow. I felt extremely insulted when I'm used to walking into GR on Wed and picking up a new game like anywhere else.

You know, I wonder if they are just making the Friday thing policy now? They didn't have Valkyrie Profile Lenneth available till Friday either. It was always in the computer that way but they'd sell them Wednesday if they got them in. Either they just think, now, that Friday is the street date and are holding them until Friday, or they are actually not getting things shipped till the end of the week now. I'm thinking the latter because it seems to be fairly consistent across many GR and I can't imagine all the managers getting it in their heads that Friday is the actual release date for games now - unless this was in a memo or something. Weak, either way...
It's just a shipping thing. Dead Rising was pretty much late everywhere, and GR is usually a day behind EB/GS, so I'd expect it tomorrow.

As a Public Service Announcement, GR is listing Mario Hoops for DS at 29.99 in the system right now, a wonderful $5 cheaper than EB's listing. I also preordered Starfox Command and FFIII (29.99 and 34.99 respectively - though I only put $5 down on FFIII for now).

I'll probably go back later this week or next to put money down on some more games, it just takes forever to go through two or three.

Now I can switch my FFIII and Mario Hoops preorders to something more obscure like Yggdra Union and Summon Night 2.

Which explains why my BestBuy just had about 30 copies of the game, including one now in my hands. I'll just pick it up at GR and return it next week.

Dammit, and of course I paid in full ($34.99) at EB for Mario Hoops. I'll go preorder it at GR (in full so they can't charge me more later - taking advantage of their wacky system which usually screws us over in this regard) and switch Mario Hoops at EB to something else I guess.

And you say StarFox is $29.99 also at GR? I only have $5 down on that - I might want to pay it off in full so I don't end up having to pay $34.99 for that too. I swear it was a $34.99 game when I put the $5 down, otherwise I would have paid in full then.

Yep, I waited to hear the amount of each before deciding how much to put on it. Didn't want another AOE DS incident.

I doubt they will care too much at EB if you paid in full rather than just a deposit. Plenty of 34.99 DS games to switch it to. :D

Did you check on Chibi Robo and Phantom Hourglass at GR?

EB has Phantom Hourglass at $39.99 so that's a good candidate for a cheaper price at GR. They have Chibi Robo at $34.99. I'll check those tomorrow when I go to fix the rest of the preorders. Damn EB is too far out of the way though - maybe they'll change things over the phone for me. Now I'll be cancelling/switching my next 2 preorders there (Deep Lab, Mario Hoops).

Hmmm... EB has 2 Cooking Mama titles listed for DS. One coming out end of August for $19.99 and one coming out in December for $34.99. WTF? That's the kind of game I'd like to see some reviews of first though :D. It is also one GR is likely NOT to get in at all.

Other switching possibilities: Dragon Quest Heroes Rocket Slime (being a Squeenix title GR will probably get this), Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles (ditto), Yoshi's Island 2 (sure GR will get this if they get any DS games), Lunar Knights ($29.99 at EB, small chance of GR getting it), Castlevania Portrait of Ruin ($39.99 at EB, hopefully cheaper at GR)

So it looks like I can switch my EB Deep Labyrinth to Lunar Knights. Not sure what I can switch Mario Hoops to - probably Chibi Robo if GR doesn't have it yet or it is at the same price. I'll check on all these games at GR tomorrow (both availability and pricing to compare with EB).
Nope, didn't check any others besides what I posted. Let me know what you check on and I'll follow up tomorrow or Monday.

The $20 one is the right one, for what it's worth.

Public Service Announcement #2 :D:

Per my receipt from today's transaction
NOTICE: Starting Tuesday, August 22, 2006 the rental terms on the back of this receipt are changing. Blockbuster will no longer subtract the initial rental fee paid from the selling price of any rental item which has been sold to a member who has kept the item more than a week after the end of the rental period.
Summary: The "Keep it" price will be the same as if you bought it used off the shelf. Kinda like GameFly.

Neither my Gamerush nor Blockbuster had Dead Rising (but Circuit City & Best Buy had around 30 copies, Gamestop had it in stock as well). I was told it'd be in Friday. Ill probably still call tomorrow, but i wont be holding my breath.

Also, the store had 3 used PS1's (original, not PSone) with controller & cables for $12.99 each right in front of the registers next to all the PS1 games, i guess theyre trying to get rid of everything.

Does anyone know how much Ridge Racer for the 360 gets? It can be had at bestbuy for 15 dollars after GGC. Thanks.

The WIKI says $22 as of 6/29/06. Not that big of a profit. If they were still doing the extra $5, it would be.

I was at GR today and the manager there said that BlockBuster closed all their Illinois stores. Can anyone confirm that? If so, that might be the beginning of the end for BB.

Still no Dead Rising at Gamerush. Yesterday I called and they told me "it doesn't come out until the 11th", and today they just said "we didn't get it today". They better get it tomorrow, sick of waiting.

Better off Taking it & King Kong ($19.99 @ Sears) to FYE for the T2G1F deal.

I picked up Dead Rising from GR today and went to change my Zelda pre-order from GC to Wii, and they said that all Wii games were 59.99. Grrr...the guy let me just put it on my account and he said if the price is different that they would refund the money. Then I found out that I am number 2 on the PS3 call list. Come on GR you only have to make it 3 months and 6 days now!

Good to know that they have Wii games at 59.99... I'll just put a deposit on those if I even get around to preordering any of them there.

is the call list the same as a preorder list?

Yeah, I reported that here a few weeks ago. Because of that I just put $5 down on the Wii version of Zelda. At the time they didn't have Metroid Prime 3 or any of the bigger titles yet. They did have many of the lesser launch titles though. As soon MP3 shows up I'll drop another $5. It's good for as many of us as possible to put down at least $5 on a few games so there's the small chance that someone at GR will notice the interest and be sure to get Wii systems/games in and on time!

Dohmai - a "call list" is a list of people to call when the proeorders officially start. I didn't participate in the Xbox 360 one, but from what I understand they pretty much followed the call list in terms of letting people put down preorders and stuck to the same order even. I guess you'd probably have to respond fairly quickly when they call though - not sure how long they gave people to reply. This is, in fact, the main reason why I have kept some money in my account at GR. I want them to take $50 right away, the day preorders start, to put down on the system and not have to wait for me to go in there. Though at my GR last year they gave preference to people who paid for the 360 in full. I can do that too with the new systems, but I'd have to bring in a few Value cards for that .
