System Watch:

Some GameRushes have PS3's on their incoming shipping reports as arriving on Tuesday, December 5th. One of the local stores that actually received Wii's will receive 1 (One) PS3 ($600 Version) tomorrow. No firm reports on when the next shipment of Wii's will arrive.

Random News:

In a really strange turn of events, GameRush actually pulled a lot of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games from Previously Played status and put them back up on the wall to rent. There are still plenty of used games for sale, but I thought this was an interesting move on Blockbuster's part.

Older News:

Random Tip
FIFA 2007 for the Xbox 360 is currently listed at $40 new ($60 everywhere else). If you pre-order it and pay for it in full now, you should be able to pick it up when it releases and save yourself $20.
I have not seen a single Wii accessory at the 5 GR's I went to yesterday.
That's fucking horrible.

I guess I just have to hope Rhino gives a good deal on Monster Rancher Evo.
Ok, deleted my old post cause it no longer applies, here's a new one.

Gamerush gives $24 for Monster Rancher Evo, correct?

I haven't been in a GR in months, do they stock Wii Points Cards or accessories? I got Monster Rancher Evo for $10 at TRU so it's like getting a classic controller or points card half off.
Just to expand on gizmo's post:

Dude, I have a Wii Points card and Classic Controller on preorder there. They've never gotten a Wii or any accessories in. Yet they did get all the promo material including the little cards they are supposed to hang on the wall (the same ones EB uses) for all the controllers. All they've gotten are single copies of about 7 games (luckily they did get Zelda so I managed to pick up THAT preorder, anyway).

I would LOVE to use my GR credit to stock up on Wii Points cards, making my VC purchases less than half of normal cost. No luck so far - I'm hoping they start getting stuff in the new year, but I wouldn't count on it.
Gamerush gives $24 for Monster Rancher Evo, correct?
Yes. I just traded this in on Sunday.
I haven't been in a GR in months, do they stock Wii Points Cards or accessories?
Unlike gizmo and io, I have at least seen point cards in at least two Orlando area GRs, typically hanging behind the GR counter where they keep Xbox Marketplace points (if in stock) and memory cards. Considering you're just down the interstate, I would imagine some down your way also got some in stock.

Thanks, this gives me a little bit of hope and I think I'll check it out tomorrow when I grab everything else I need for the Wii.

They are behind the counter... you mean the Gamerush desk thing, where that board is for trade-in prices? Are they locked up or just hanging there?

Are you sure they were REAL VC Point cards and not the fake ones? GR is notorious for getting promo stuff in, but not the actual times (VC Cards, Nunchucks, etc)

Exactly. They were just hanging on pegs, but you'd have to physically walk behind the desk to reach them. Depending on your store layout, this is either no big deal, or a major invasion of employee space.

Well, I don't own a Wii and haven't been shopping for accessories, so I can't be 100% sure. But at least one of the stores I was in looked to have three hanging on the peg, which would seem kind of weird if they were promotional. They looked real enough to me. :D

Weird? I'm not surprised with GR
I saw the fake hanging ones at one GR but they never got anything in. The clerk who helped me owns a Wii and knows quite a bit about the system so I trsut him telling me they never got them. I'd love to be proved wrong however. Cheap VC cards would be great!

Well, I will know for sure tomorrow... I'll pass right by a Gamerush tomorrow and whether they have points card or not I'm going to dump off a Monster Rancher Evo (and hope it still gets $24, don't feel like calling beforehand).

My friend, who also got one at TRU, is selling me hers for the $10 she paid, so I'll have two copies to trade in, I'll just dump them at two different GR's.

GR has gotten in shit like Elite Beat Agents and Kirby Squeak Squad, right? So I have something to fall back on unless the Wii Points Card's really are fake. I'm not going to mind paying roughly $16 in the end for DS games (per game).

See, you tried to get away, but GR just pulled you back in with their too-tempting trade-in prices ;). That is exactly the way I feel. While I'd like to be able to get Wii accessories (and wish I could have gotten my Wii there as well for that matter) I should be able to get DS games if nothing else there for a while - quite a while, actually, as long as GR sticks around.

(I never saw Elite Beat Agents there but they definitely got Kirby, Yoshi's Island, Mairo Hoops, Starfox, Clubhouse Games, Children of Mana, Magical Starsign, Castlevania, FF III, etc. My store either gets 1 or 3 of most DS games. It seems on the big releases they get 3 like FF III and Kirby. On what they deem lesser titles, like Clubhouse Games, they will only get 1 - I'm never sure if this is because of my preorder or just coincidental. Usually, though, I have one preordered so I end up with the 1 copy they got. I didn't preorder Elite Beat Agents, though, and they never got it. So maybe if I hadn't preordered Clubhouse they wouldn't have gotten that either. It is seriously pathetic though - I quite literally buy 1/4 to 1/5 of their new DS game stock).

Went to a local GR tonight and bought:
Metroid Prime Hunters (New) $19.99
We Love Katamari (Used) $19.99 -> $15 (After 25% discount)
Is the $19.99 for Prey for 360 confirmed? My blockbuster (Not gamerush) has it stickered for $34.99
The new one should be stickered at $20, I've seen it with my own eyes. The used for some reason is still sold for $34.99

Damn that sucks. Mine doesnt really sell new games and for $20 i'd snag it even though i don't have a 360 yet. Anyone think they might be able to snag it for Cost + shipping? Have $24.46 in paypal and i can throw in another buck or two.

Well, truth be told, Monster Rancher Evo sells like shit on Ebay now and I figured trading it in somewhere is easier than going back to TRU and returning it.

But if GR didn't even get Elite Beat Agents, I guess I will just return it. Haha, this is the same reason I stopped trading shit there years ago, because they never get in anything worth trading for ;)

Nevermind, Rhino gives $20 for the game and they have a ton of Wii accessories, so I'm just going to trade it there, and get myself a $10 out of pocket Wii Classic Controller.
Hmmm, I saw a new one at my GR marked $14.99
You sure it wasn't Pinball? That's how much its marked at my local one.

You may be right. Too many deals, not enough space in my brain to keep them straight.
Wow so they let you use a GC to buy smaller GC's and gave you the bonus... SCORE! :bouncy:
Went yesterday to two blockbusters in Jersey.
First one was a franchise and did not sell used games.
Second one has a few used games and the Game Card Promotion.

Used a Value Card with $214 on it to buy the following:

Pride Fighting PS2 - $10 after 25% off
Two $100 Gift Cards
+four $5 bonus cards.

Left store with a used game and $10 in credit more than I had when I entered.

it sounds like their system is designed to let you by giftcards with valuecards (but not GCs with GCs) and get the bonus?

anyone try this (value buying GCs) and get shot down?

How do I tell the difference between Value Cards and Gift Cards? I have about $300 spread over three different cards (I put my balance from trades on them). Are these Value Cards? It would be sweet to get an extra $30 in gift cards.

my valuecards just have the blockbuster logo on a yellow backgroudn and say Value Card

i think giftcards usually have more 'festive' desgisns and say giftcard instead

i haven't had a chance to try buying GCs with the valuecards, but is the +$5 promotion running at all blockbusters, or just gamerushes?

thanks!

With Blockbuster dumping off Rhino, I wonder what the future holds for Gamerush? Like Botticus said in a different thread, Gamerush is cheaper to run since it's a part of Blockbuster, however Gamerush is really nothing but dead weight at this point.

It's going to be interesting to see what they do with it.

Someone mentioned in the Rhino thread that Blockbuster wants to get out of the video game business, and well, they already made the first move.

I think I'll just use up the last of my credit in the next month or two, and stick with trading only what I can immediately use in the store. Their preorder situation is just a little too shaky.

I think I have about $170 in credit there...I may just use it soon. I'm waiting to find a Rainbox Six Vegas used (hopefully before the 25% off ends)

Any idea when that promotion ends?

I still have Halo3 paid off too....who knows how that will go.

im pretty sure it ends Jan 6th

Thanks...I'll have to check the store by work tomorrow then....

I may get a $40 PS3 controller too since they are still mispriced at GR.

what is the return policy of Gamerush? I purchased a PS3 from them 3 weeks ago. I found that I cannot afford or sell it. It is still new and sealed, Can I return it? thanks
With your receipt you should be able to.
good to know. It seems that it will go back to GR this weekend? I will stick to old PS2 and WII.

Yeah - I've been wondering when the guy who bought all 4 of my GR's PS3's is going to return them. I figured it was only a matter of time ;). Not that I want one.

Roufuss, your doomsaying about GR is not welcome here ;) (I only say that because I have a ton of credit and many preorders still to pick up - if they go away I will be hosed). We shall see...

lol, well, this time it is somewhat grounded in reality... Blockbuster looks to have dumped off every non profitable or barely profitable asset it owns at this point, now that the rumors were confirmed they did sell the Rhino brand to Gamestop.

I mean, we all know Gamerush is doing nothing for Blockbuster... I'm just curious if they are going to go all the way and axe it as well?

I just wanted to give people the heads up just in case something like this is in the works, since I know some people with GR's around don't have a Rhino. Apparently this game as a major shock to everyone who works at Rhino since Blockbuster did this behind all of their backs.

Don't worry IO, people have been talking about GR going away for the last 2 years. I think it will be around for a while. Plus, if they did bail, they will have a huge clearance sale to unload all your credit on. :) Mine too.

A moment of silence for the greatest GameRush this side of the Mason-Dixon line: the Plainfield/Hunt location is officially closing it's doors on the 21st of this month. I knew this was coming for about 2 months, but the official signs went up this week.

Before everyone starts worrying about the sky falling, this entire Blockbuster is closing down because the Kroger next to it is shutting down for an extended period of time to do a full remodel. This has nothing to do with any other GameRushes.

Unfortunately, this will sever many of the GameRush ties that I have built up the last couple of years and it will be difficult for me to build good relations with the next closest GameRush as their employees are complete idiots and the store is not run well at all.
I mean, we all know Gamerush is doing nothing for Blockbuster...
Technically that isn't true. I wouldn't step foot in a Blockbuster if there were no GRs. I do however provide my local GRs with a decent amount of business.

Now looking at BB as a rental house, they are losing money by having to pay fairly big overhead (lease and payroll) and fewer and fewer people are renting movies these days (many people simply buy a movie on DVD right away from Wal-mart or Target... they're two of the the bigger DVD sellers in the country) or rent from Netfilx. BlockBuster has seen the profitability of doing bidness the Netflix way, hence the All Access push; it's an attempt to reach the online renters and bring them into the stores (making their lease actually count for something).

GameRush could be a big asset to BlockBuster rather than a millstone around their neck, if they were seen and managed for what they ought to be. A videogame sell/trade shop. Market, advertise and RUN the GameRushes as game stores rather than a second thought to BlockBuster movies, and more people would buy and trade there.
Technically that isn't true. I wouldn't step foot in a Blockbuster if there were no GRs. I do however provide my local GRs with a decent amount of business.
I couldn't agree more.

Hmmm....sounds like Gamecrazy. They have separate entrances, and just a little passageway to the Hollywood Video that they are connected to. I prefer GR deals/trades but at least Gamecrazy is ran and is designed like a gaming store. It sucks waiting in the Blockbuster line with all the renters when all i want to do is do my trades and get out. Plus, 99% of the time the Blockbuster employees know nothing about the GR side or gaming at all. My GR used to be pretty cool when they had dedicated GR staff.

Well, I just wanted to give you all a heads up... Blockbuster cutting loose Rhino, which I can guarantee was more successful than Gamerush (it actually had other customers when I went in) and the rumors going around that BB wants to wipe its hands clean of the video game retail business (selling Rhino is a good start) just means people should brace for anything.

I just wouldn't start amassing credit, in other words, because who knows what will happen in a few months time.

Blockbuster is pretty set on selling non core assets, as they want to focus on rentals and their online service... they've sold off a ton of their assets, with Rhino being the latest one. What makes any of you think Gamerush is safe?

Like I said, I only posted the info about Rhino in here because most Gamerush people might not even know what a Rhino is, but the fact that Blockbuster is selling off that isn't really a good sign for anybody. I'm not sure what assets Blockbuster has left to sell or dissolve at this point.

Blockbuster has enough on its hands competiting with Hollywood Video and Netflix, I just see them getting out of the video game business completely excep t for rentals.

Again, we'll just have to take a wait and see approach... I just see them getting rid of Rhino as a sign of things to come. I'm just throwing this out there as a warning that maybe if you have a preorder for something like Halo 3, or you're trading in a ton of games there, might want to hold off and be patient.

I mean, Rhino WAS a dedicated video game store that Blockbuster owned... if Gamerush was independently run like that, BB would have chopped them off already, so you guys should be lucky that it is a part of Blockbuster.

Yeah, I think we would all like GR to be a little better run. Perhaps a *bit* more like Gamecrazy. But on the other hand I wouldn't like that model much either. I like being able to trade at all Blockbusters (can't trade at normal Hollywood's as far as I know). Also, GC sucks in terms of trade-in promos. I live where I'm surrounded by Gamecrazy's and access to only one GR, and that one GR gets 75% of my gaming business, the EB/GS's about 20%, and the multitude of GC's about 5%. GC also has a horrible gift card setup - can only put credit on in $1 increments and can only use said credit at other GC's (not Hollywood). Roufuss, I know you wish GC's were in your area. I counter that they are the least desireable of all the used game trade-in stores.

GR would be near 100% if they got in more games on time and got preorder bonuses (plus I had to go to EB to get my Wii preorder). I've been trading at GC a little bit recently as I don't want to trade too many of the same things at GR, plus they have some nice complimentary prices to GR (for example, Ape Escape 3 is worthless at GR but gets $15 at GC). I tend to save that credit for their sporadic clearances on rarer RPG games (like DDS and Wild Arms Alter Code F, things like that). Plus, despite my hopes for GR, I am trying to diversify my credit and not build up TOO much as Roufuss suggests ;). Though I do have a boat-load to be sure. If worse comes to worse, I can pick up a 360 and a slew of games and be done with it. So what I will hold off on is a 360/PS3 purchase for the time being - while still amassing a bit more credit (got a stack here to trade).

Well, with Rhino going down, EB / GS is the only thing left to a real gaming store that we have here in all of Florida.

I'd like to get a GC so I can get things like the Atlus RPG's cheap and take advantage of the good trade-in prices to get things like the niche titles that only EB / GS / GC / and (RIP) Rhino carried.

Well, sure enough, if you have nothing but EB/GS then GC would be a nice alternative. But you DO have a bunch of GR down there, so I don't feel too bad for you ;). (Except on the niche titles as you say - GC is good for those, though I find their stock is very spotty. I needed to hit up about 5 of them to find one copy of those games in the clearances, so it isn't the bonanza you might think it is).

Well, not even clearances, I'm just talking getting the games in on a regular basis and a real game store that is an alternative to EB / GS. And I'm sure Gamecrazy at least has Elite Beat Agents ;) And I know for a fact they got in the Atlus RPG's like Yggdra Union for GBA.

We have alot of GR's around here but they really nothing special. To be honest, I don't equate GR to EB / GS at all, but more like an FYE... a store that just happens to carry some new and used games but dosen't specialize or care about it.

The Gamerushes around here are nothing like Fye/Wherehouse. My GR's have probably 90% more new and used games/hardware than my Fye's. The only time i go to Fye/Wherehouse is to take advantage of some outrageous trade-in values they may have. And usually I just take the cash. My GR's on the other hand, I have bought 10+ games from them in the last month not to mention the hardware/systems I have bought there. I typically stay away from my EB/GS as well. I only go there if they are having a great sale (like the Jungle Beat bongos). Most of the guys at the EB/GS around here are pricks anyway. I used to go there to trade and buy games, but they acted like I was taking money out of there pockets if I didn't pay full price for the newest games or pre-order everything.

I'm at the point now I won't even support EB / GS even if they have a great sale... I'm opposed to putting any of my money at all into their coffers.

I guess I'll have to start shopping for all my niche games on Amazon :(

Did some trading in today, as I wanted to get Elebits and figured I'd better take advantage of the $5 bump if it still existed by me. It does. Also got Pokemon Trozei, but they had no Excite Trucks or I would've gotten that, too.

These prices are BEFORE said $5 bump -- which oddly didn't apply to the NFS: Carbon. By the way, I don't recommend any of these games.

Star Wars: Lethal Alliance DS - $15
Star Wars: Lethal Alliance PSP - $18
Splinter Cell: DA GC (worst version) - $12
Need for Speed Carbon Wii - $30

Wait, did they actually have Elebits in stock?? Mine never even had it on order, last time I checked. But it is worth looking again (as I too want to get some more $5 goodness). I can then return my EB copy. My store DOES actually have an Excite Truck though - whoa, first time my store ever had something that someone else's didn't .

Was Lethal Alliance for PSP really that bad? I was going to pick that up in the future (it is on my "look for on clearance" list). Is it $5 good, or maybe $10 good, even? No way I'm paying MSRP for it, even in trade credit. Also, would you say Cars better than Carbon for the Wii? I hope so ;).

Most if not all the GRs around me had Elebits on Friday of the week it was released. Good luck finding it. Also the GRs here seem to have recieved a lot of Wii games and accessories for sale (except Zelda). Between the four stores I frequent, I've seen almost every Wii title for purchase.

Well, after all this GR doomsday talk, I don't have to worry about it anymore. Last night I went to return a couple movies abd noticed they had 10 pink DS lites. Soo, i bought 3 and used up the last of my GR credit. Already sold them last night on ebay. :) I may still do a few more trades if i can find the High Value games, but I will be dumping the credit ASAP. Like i said before, i don't think they are going away anytime soon, but i have been wrong before,
