System Watch:

Some GameRushes have PS3's on their incoming shipping reports as arriving on Tuesday, December 5th. One of the local stores that actually received Wii's will receive 1 (One) PS3 ($600 Version) tomorrow. No firm reports on when the next shipment of Wii's will arrive.

Random News:

In a really strange turn of events, GameRush actually pulled a lot of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games from Previously Played status and put them back up on the wall to rent. There are still plenty of used games for sale, but I thought this was an interesting move on Blockbuster's part.

Older News:

Random Tip
FIFA 2007 for the Xbox 360 is currently listed at $40 new ($60 everywhere else). If you pre-order it and pay for it in full now, you should be able to pick it up when it releases and save yourself $20.
Early March. etc).
That's too bad io. Would have been fun if your store did some nice sales, but what can you do?

I wish I could recommend some decent GRs around here, but since moving so much of their stock to rentals, most of the stores around here have been pretty meh since Christmas shopping.

The used 360 selection at the GR right up the road from me is growing more than anything else. Which isn't surprizing as the 2/1 sale excludes 360 games... any other titles come and quickly sell, but the 360 games are coming in, and like an unwelcome relative, staying.

And you silly man, just but the dang ps3. You have the credit for it, no? Unless you really do feel you'd rather wait till you find the wii games at other GRs, and you truly dont have an interest in the ps3.

I'm like Scrooge with credit. It's hard for me to part with it, moreso than plain old cash. I either make sure to get a very good sale, a big percentage off, or a buy X/get X deal with games. Other than that, I'd rather spend the credit on a console as those prices don't drop near as much nor as fast as game prices do. (ps3 may be the exception to that, but at the moment that's just rumors and possibly wishful thinking)

And I could of sworn someone here said they got KH2 (used or new, I forget) for 19.99. New is still 29.99, used is 24.99 at mine. Did I dream the whole thing? Auntie Em?

Believe me, if they had a PS3 I'd buy it in a second. They got 4 in one time in Dec. and sold them all to one person - I related that little tidbit here. What they have is 2 (had 6 just two days ago) premium 360's. I'm hesitant to buy one of those because they have really old manufactured dates. I might wait a few weeks and at least try to get the new BenQ drive models as they show up in stores (Nov. manu. date and later - the newest one I've found, at Best Buy, has an October 2006 date). Of course, that means not using my credit on a console like I had hoped. But I can pick up Oblivion and Enchanted Arms (and I just bought Viva Pinata used for $45 today) and save the rest of the credit for helpful CAG's to snag me things or for my trips to Atlanta (I just have no idea if or when my next one of those will occur - last time I was there was May 2006).

The funny thing is a couple of the people who bought 360's there apparently had huge amounts of credit (like me). I really didn't think there were any other heavy traders at this store. Guess I was wrong .

Man too bad you can't hit the GR by me they've had PS3's on for the past two months and can't move them (probably still the boxes with Talladega Nights). I'd be willing to help you snag one the only downside would be the shipping cost. Not really sure how much it would cost but I'm sure it's not cheap as heavy as those bad boys are.
Either way that's a nice price!
Agreed. It's just that GR has a habit of not keeping up with price tags, and also dropping the new price without dropping the used (and vice versa). :)

Actually, shipping isn't too bad if you go priority mail. But then I thought about it some more and not only is there shipping, but sales tax :bomb:. I don't pay that here, and on a PS3 that makes a significant difference ;).

I'll probably end up not getting any console there and just saving the credit for trade here (for easier to ship games and Wii Points cards) - a few people have already offered to help me out so that's cool.

That's true the tax I paid could've almost bought me a game for the damn system (about 50 bones). I should've held out for amazon.com to restock. Free shipping and tax would've been nice on that behemoth. I'll let you know if my store gets any Wii accessories or point cards.

Went into my local Blockbuster to exchange movies, saw a gutted "new" Karaoke Revolution 3 bundle sitting on the shelf for 54.99. Wanted to burn the rest of my credit anyway. Rings up as 13.75 much to my delight. Snow killed my trip to get games today but I still found a deal. :)

And once again, another 75% off clearance game from last summer rears its head. I still think we need to maintain the clearance list for people to help uncover some of these hidden gems.

And it begins...

I went in to my GR to see if the $5 bonus was still running and they said it was, but that they were told today that they were no longer supposed to take in any trades . I brought games with me yesterday but didn't feel like dealing with the trade-in at the time. D'oh!

A sad, sad, day indeed.

So they are screwing me with the trades (stopping them a full month before they stop renting movies - they will remain open past March 11th having their DVD sale). And they sent some of their hardware away already. And yet they won't have any kind of game sale or even extend the B2G1 free to the 360 games (I think they ought to do it on the new games too if they want to clear stuff out!).

If they come through with Lunar Knights (unlikely at this point), Wii Play (also doubtful), Ratchet & Clank for PSP (likely), Sonic and the Secret Rings (who knows), and Wario Master of Disguise (pushing it as it releases close to the end) I'll be happy. Throw in some 360 game purchases and I'll have pared my credit down to something more manageable ;). I did buy Enchanted Arms (which is $39.99 new by the way) and a PS2 FF XI HD set today.

This store has a crapload of game guides. I wonder what they will do with those. They can't possibly think it is worth shipping these to another store, can they?? I'll keep an eye on those to see what happens (and take requests if they show some common sense and clearance them).

When they closed my store the only thing they had a sale on was the DVDs. I was really hoping they would do some sort of game/accessory/guide clearance but no such luck. They just told me all of that inventory would be redistributed to other locations.

Yep, there were no sales on games when the GameRush near me closed as well.
Yep, there were no sales on games when the GameRush near me closed as well.
I guess I was hoping mine might have sales because they have to ship everything long distance to get it to other GR stores. With the GR's you guys are talking about they could just truck stuff down the street to another store (or several of them), right? But then again this is Blockbuster we're talking about so they will probably pay a premium to ship crap that other stores already have plenty of. Wouldn't want to be cost effective or anything . I mean, even a B2G1 on new games should net them a profit (considering shipping costs and the same product sitting unsold at the stores they send it to until it drops in price or gets clearanced).

Won't let me create a wiki account so I'll just post new trade values here:
Oblivion(360) - $35
Tom Clancy GRAW (360) - $15.00
GCN Super Smash Bros Melee - $6.00

There are still 3 BB's (one of them a GR) within about a 3 mile radius of the closed store. They didn't have far to ship the merchandise if it went to those stores (I wouldn't doubt it if BB shipped all of the merchandise to a central distribution center, sorted it, and shipped it to other stores across the country).

WiKi updated.

Oblivion still gets $35? Very tempting to trade it in at that price.
WiKi updated.

Check my list ;).

Dammit - the Oblivion I had my eye on at GR sold between last night and this afterrnoon. So if anyone is looking to unload one let me know.

In other shocking (good!) news, GR actually got Wii Play in today. Thanks to a tip from h2dk I rushed up there and bought my PREORDERED copy before they sold it to someone else. Two clueless employees were there and they had simply tagged the two copies they got in (one preordered by me, the other by h2dk) and put them out for sale. I'd be more pissed if they weren't closing so soon. I just need to keep on top of them for Sonic as they'll probably only get 1.

I'm surprised they got Wii Play at all though - someone at GR corporate must not have realized it was part "accessory" or they wouldn't have sent it to this store which is otherwise devoid of Wii stuff .

They did NOT get Ratchet & Clank Size Matters for the PSP, though, except for rental. Very wierd. And of course, no Hotel Dusk or Lunar Knights. I cancelled my Hotel Dusk preorder and will give Lunar Knights another week. I'm down to $80 credit on the account and will have no problem using that up. I still have much more on cards though ;).

I was planning on swinging by my GR on the way home but with the snow storm here it took long enough just to get home. Might have to get out tomorrow and have a look.

I bought three games today and used the buy 2 get 1 free.

Ps2:
Godzilla Save The Earth $17
Family Guy $20
Monster Rancher 4 $15

The wierd thing was that Godzilla was the free game. Maybe it was mispriced or something. Does anyone know if the order I bought the games has anything to do with it?

:bomb:

I tell you, I will be glad to be done with GR soon except for the occasional trade with CAG's for GR stuff using my leftover value cards (but then they get to deal with actual store ;)).

Last Friday when I picked up Wii Play (a pleasant surprise amongst all the typical GR disappointment) I decided to buy one of the 3 FF XI w/HD that have been sitting there for a while. I figured I could at least sell them at cost and convert some of my GR credit to cash at even value. Much to my surprise, it sold for $60+. So I go back in there today to buy the other two and they are gone. Note that the 3 had been sitting there untouched for over a month out in the open (after presumably being in their store room for a while). They looked all over for them and couldn't find them. They couldn't figure out how to look them up in the computer. The best they can figure is that they must have gotten a request to send them to another store like they did with the 360's a few weeks back (why this happened over a holiday weekend I have no idea - what shipment method did they use?). I noticed the rest of their 360's were gone as well. Apparently they keep getting requests to send things to other stores and despite my asking to be informed they are of course doing it without so much as a warning. I've finally decided not to get a 360 there as I'd much rather have the Costco warranty or even buy one from Gamecrazy, so I don't so much care about those - but they did promise me they would let me know if they were down to 1 system and they failed on that.

Anyway, so I'm out the option of converting $80 in GR credit into $120+ in cash which I could have used to buy 2 brand new 360 games or 2 1/2 Wii games later in the year (that I won't be able to preorder at GR).

Does anyone have any ideas for games that might sell for cost or potentially more? I know there have been a few in the past. They still have a good selection of new games - it doesn't seem like any of those have been sent yet. But the systems and accessories are disappearing rapidly - and they aren't being sold, apparently, just transferred to other stores.

Oh, and in other non-news, they have still failed to get Hotel Dusk, Lunar Knights, and Ratchet & Clank Size Matters. Of course, they got a copy of R&C to RENT, the fuckers, which makes no damn sense since they won't be renting past the 11th of March.

I'm not holding out much hope for Sonic and the Secret Rings, let alone the Wario DS game in early March. And they have the audacity to have God Of War 2 listed on their "preorder" board (doesn't come out till after they close).

The rat bastards...

Hmmm, interesting. I wonder if they will have a new deal soon. I'm tempted to use some credit on Crackdown.....although, people seem to think it's rather short.

yea, ive been getting this feeling at work that they are going to either phase our or severely reduce GR. No one takes cares of the GR sections anymore, mine looks like hell.
Is B2G1 free over now? I noticed all the signs were down at my local Blockbuster Tuesday.
Yeah I can confirm it is over. Today I went to Blockbuster and the signs were still up. When the manager rang the games up, they rang up normal price. She didn't know what happened so she tried again. Eventually she went to look to look at something in the back, and she told me the sale was over. She let me have the deal anyways sense the signs were still up, but then she went and took them down. She did say something about a new sale coming soon, she said 50 percent off something, but she wasn't very clear.
She did say something about a new sale coming soon, she said 50 percent off something, but she wasn't very clear.
Intriguing... Was this a GR or a regular Blockbuster? If GR is having any kind of good sale they better have it soon since I only have about 3 weeks left .

But then again, I could see any sale NOT happening at my store - so not only do I not get some sort of store-closing clearance sale, I'll probably get shafted on the last good sale they would have had.

Anyways, still looking for new game ideas that might sell at cost - want to snag what I can before they ship it off.

But I really just want my GR to get the new Sonic game for the Wii in. If anyone sees this at their GR, please let me know as I can then bug my store about it. And if they don't get it by next week, I might ask someone here to snag me one (if other stores get it and mine doesn't - a likely scenario).

I wouldn't take anything about her saying 50 percent off. She didn't say what is was on, or if it was buy one get the second one half off or something like that. I'll take anything she said with a grain of salt because she seemed like a damn fool who had no business running a store. Its just a regular Blockbuster BTW.

. I think that is pretty standard - I don't take any deals heard from GR/BB employees seriously until a CAG goes in and actually gets it. But buy 1 get 1 50% off sounds likely, though I don't think we've actually seen that one before, have we? It really seems like they ought to just run B2G1 free (or 25% off) continuously like they used to. I don't imagine they sell many used games without those deals.

It really seems like they ought to just run B2G1 free (or 25% off) continuously like they used to. I don't imagine they sell many used games without those deals.
IIRC, they have had the BOGO 50% off, but it has been awhile. Blame Corporate for being bad about getting messages out though, every single BB I've been to has been clueless about pulling signs when deals are long gone.

Gosh, I haven't posted in a while... but today I picked up:

PS3: Blu-Ray Remote $24.00
PSP: Viewtiful Joe Red Hot Rumble $9.99
PSP: Death, Jr. $9.99

All items were NEW prices.

Went ahead and picked up Wii Play today... counting my FFVI preorder that likely won't ever come in, I'm down to around $42 in credit.

You're damn lucky they still had it there. At my store they would have tagged it and put it out and sold it, then said "sorry" when you went to pick up the preorder. I forgot about FF VI. I'll assume that since you preordered it and they didn't get it that my store won't get one for no reason ;).

I guess I'll be glad to be through with them soon. I'll be pretty upset to miss any (potential) chain-closing clearance sale though. You guys are gonna clean up on that.

I called a few days ago to see if they had one after you mentioned your store got one. Goes to show how much business they do.

Wow, that's hard to believe. Next you are going to tell me they had a Wii sitting there for the whole week. Most likely, though, at my GR, my copy would have sat there also (unsold though apparently available to anyone). I think other people have given up on it as a game store well before they decided to close (they had a flurry of Wii calls when it was hot before Christmas, but I doubt anyone bothers now). But since I need to spend credit and they ACTUALLY had something to spend it on I wanted to be damn sure I got in there and picked it up ASAP. I just wish I had bought those FF XI w/HD they still had on Friday as well. Oh well, can't win 'em all...

I just noticed an email today that, at least at my store, 50% clearance on games starts the week of the 26th. Keep your eyes out, a good deal might be starting soon.

Oh and for some reason, COD3 for the 360 is only $49.99 used.

Interesting! Are we talking new games or used games?

:whistle2:s

If true, that would be very nice for me as it would be in time before they close and I could probably finish off my credit that way - stuff I want (but have been waiting on), stuff to trade to EB or GC, and stuff to sell. I hope this is true. But then that means I'm missing the 75% off in a few months ;). They better not fucking pack up all the games and send them to some other store to sell at clearance!

Archaic - thanks for the tip, but there is practically NO used or new hardware at this store. I think there's just one beat up used GBA SP, maybe a PSP (though I think that is one of the things they shipped off). They have never had a used DS Lite to my knowledge (a few phats back last summer/fall, and that's it, ever).
Interesting! Are we talking new games or used games?
I would assume used, I don't know it any retailer as small as Gamerush could afford the hit of fifty percent off on new stuff.

On the sending to the stores its a cycle, you don't buy stuff, so the algorithms say that its won't sell at that store so it gets transfered. But you really just wanted to buy it on sale so their sale totals would actually be higher if they didn't ship the stuff out.

You pose an interesting question, has anyone ever seen a used DS Lite anywhere period? Outside of auctions sites of couse. I know I haven't.

You haven't been paying attention ;). They are transferring things away because the store is closing (despite the fact that they SAID they wouldn't send anything away until the week they close). They've never transferred anything new like that before (they have done used accessories though). I'm saying it would be pretty dumb to transfer the very things that are going to go on clearance (if that is the case) when they could push it as a "store closing" sale. It will probably just get lost in the general clearance stuff at another store and not sell as well. Plus the point of a clearance is to get rid of it as quickly as possible. Paying to ship it to another store is not too cost effective, but whatever - no one ever claimed the place was run in any way that makes sense .

If they monitored what sold and didn't sell they would have made sure they got more DS games at my store. I've bought at least 1/5 to 1/4 of their entire DS game stock over the last year, and they've missed many sales because of games they have chosen not to send to that store, DESPITE the fact that I had them preordered (so they were already sold, basically). And most of the other DS games have sold (to other people) as well - they literally only have about 15 of them there now.

Then how do you explain the 50% off new stuff last April or so, followed by 75% off in May/June?? They sold a TON of stuff at 50 and 75% off. I'm not claiming it is making them any money, but it sure helps clears out some old junk. And it does help their financials for the current year if all the old stock is already considered as an expense in previous years (since it is all about the current year's "numbers").

I missed the store closing thing, that would suck to have that happen.

The DS story is interesting at Blockbuster, was talking with people who worked here longer about it. Basically last spring/summer Gamerush cleared out all their DS rentals and stock. Corporate made a bet on the PSP and Gamerush is still trying to get back and going with the DS stuff now that it is dominating. My store just started renting them again like 4 months ago. Thats why you hardly never find stuff like Phoenix Wright or Trauma Center for rent/sale at Gamerushes.

Forgot about those sales, perhaps we will be getting a 50% clearance on new and used, that would be sweet. Although, they won't let sales stack with the employee discount which sucks. They really need to let one of the sales apply to 360 stuff now as well. Our inventory of 360 stuff is out of control b/c everything is overpriced and the deals hardly ever apply to them.

I would love some 50% off action on 360 stuff. Although, I don't see them doing that...we'll see. I could pick up NCAA 2K6 and Kong maybe. I know this did drop, but not sure what the price is currently.

Yeah, no kidding on the 360 stuff. I said to the manager the other day how great it would be if the B2G1 would apply to 360 games (hoping since the store is closing he might let it slide ;)). No dice - he said "Yeah, great for YOU, but not for US". Oh geez, like you are going to lose tons of money if I buy one of those 5 used copies of Chromehounds and other such things at B2G1 free... They have a TON of used 360 stock at high prices that won't move unless they have a sale or drop the prices - so they might as well just include it in the B2G1 free and such sales.

By the way, anyone see Sonic and the Secret Rings at their Gamerush? How about Ratchet & CLank Size Matters for the PSP?

Edit - Just called my GR, NO GO on both of those. If anyone else's GR gets those in please let me know, because then I can be fairly sure I am not going to be able to get them at mine. However, if they haven't come in at any store yet there's still a (small) chance.
