50% Off Sale

Edit: It looks as though more games are being added to the 50% off list on 3/25/07. Here's what jaybsooner is reporting:

The prices will be listed on the price drop reports as 1 cent drops making the game prices end in .98. The 50% will be automatically deducted when the employee hits the Total button. It's very unlikely that there is any signage or changes in prices actually displayed at the stores yet.

Okay, details are still rolling in and we don't have a full list yet, but we're getting there.

FAQ (Read before you ask a question.)

Q: Are used games included?
A: No, this is only for new games.

Q: Is this sale going on at normal Blockbusters?
A: Yes, as long as it is not a franchise Blockbuster. Most Blockbusters are not franchise locations. Call your local store and ask if they are a corporate or a franchise store if you are unsure or check a past receipt to see if it says "Blockbuster Franchisee".

Q: The games are scanning at full price, is this sale for real?
A: You won't get the discount until the employee hits "Total" on the register.

Q: Do Blockbuster gift cards work at Gamerush?
A: Yes.

Q: Is this going on nationwide?
A: Yes, but see details on franchise locations above.

Q: My blockbuster employees say they don't know anything about the sale, is this sale real or happening in my area?
A: It's a good thing that they don't know and see above franchise locations information.

System Watch:

Some GameRushes have PS3's on their incoming shipping reports as arriving on Tuesday, December 5th. One of the local stores that actually received Wii's will receive 1 (One) PS3 ($600 Version) tomorrow. No firm reports on when the next shipment of Wii's will arrive.

Random News:

In a really strange turn of events, GameRush actually pulled a lot of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games from Previously Played status and put them back up on the wall to rent. There are still plenty of used games for sale, but I thought this was an interesting move on Blockbuster's part.




Random Tip
FIFA 2007 for the Xbox 360 is currently listed at $40 new ($60 everywhere else). If you pre-order it and pay for it in full now, you should be able to pick it up when it releases and save yourself $20.

With the CC clearance and a Crackdown I traded before the H3 beta ended I have enough credit for 3 games...I did feel like a perv buying and then trading those 3 copies of DOAX2. I was surprised when I asked if they were getting Two Worlds for the 360 and they asked if I wanted the collector's edition. It was also only $65 preordered compared to $70 everywhere else, but I will be shocked if they actually get it in.

My credit is up to $230 now. I was THINKING of getting a 360 ELITE, since my current 360 is in for repair, but not sure how much I could sell my premium for when I get it back. No big deal though....I just hope my GameRush keeps getting games. If not, I can buy the 360 HD-DVD and sell it on EBAY.
 
Sorry Kunai, i don't understand. Do you mean in BB stores or BBGR stores? I've been about three BBGR stores today, and didn't see that sign anywhere.
 
i decided to get in on this Enchanted Arms action. found one used copy at a nearby GameStop (checked 3 locations in total) tonight and took it to the Game Rush by my house. i can confirm that the trade-in value is still at $36 as of tonight.

OK, this is huge. I just traded in GTA: San Andreas for the original xbox for $30. Yup, trade in value was $30, I couldn't believe it. On my receipt, it says "Do not Sell/Rent" right next to San Andreas. The guy says because it is the original version that got recalled because of the hot coffee fiasco. There are two different skus, the original one and the revised one. So you can trade it in, but Gamerush cannot sell it back to the public. The revised version is like $5 or $6, while the original is $30. If you have an original copy of San Andreas on the xbox, run your ass to Gamerush now and trade it in for $30!!

Also Shadowrun gets you $35 in credit.

That's HILARIOUS that they will give you $30 but can't resell it!!
 
Interesting... I have a Discover credit card and I was looking at the cashback bonus awards they offer. I saw one that was turn $20 into $30 for Blockbuster. I thought that wouldn't be bad but it's actually a free rental coupon book. It's not good towards games either so it's a definite no go. Check out the other restrictions, one in particular caught my eye:

What the hell? Do some Blockbusters offer defensive driving courses?
 
Yeah, the alternate cash back rewards used to be decent several years back. I remember for a while they had $40 gift cards at Border's for a $20 reward redemption. That was definitely worth it. In the case of this Blockbuster "offer" you'd be better off taking the $20 is cash, buying a copy of Enchanted Arms, and turning that into $36 in credit to use at your leisure - including that defensive driving course ;).

Yep, at least in Florida. You can opt to avoid points on your license by taking a driving class, which includes the option of a DVD version.

I've never done it, but I've seen it in the stores.

Did anyone notice if GR got NCAA 08 in today? I have it pre-ordered, but probably cannot stop until tonight or tomorrow....as I really don't care as my 360 is broke anyways.

Traded in DDR Universe for $28.50, DOAX2 for $32, and Project Gotham Racing 2 for $1.25 (big money!) on Saturday, and Enchanted Arms for $36 on Sunday. I think I'll probably flip a few more copies of EA. I've gotta build some credit so I can buy a PS3.

I didn't have time to hit GR today. I went to Wally World to get the game and none of the stores in my area got it (for the PS3 anyways). How the hell does the biggest retailer in the US not get it?

I wandered over to Circuit City, got it, and a $10 gift card. The main reason I wanted it there is I have a gift card with over $100 on it.

Their "new" section is pitiful. Is this happening to all GameRush stores?

The local GameRush for me is so slow on getting new stuff that the only Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix version they got even for *rental* was PS2. Frankly, I'm stunned, as they were always good for huge displays of movie licensed games in the past.
 
Yes, my local BB also now has NCAA 08 in stock.

Although I recently converted my BB credit to GC, I ended up bringing some back anyway with the Enchanted Arms PS3 flip. Had to pay $19.99 (no used copies), but the extra $16 will help with a Madden 08 preorder. Figured that was a safe bet that BB would get it in.

BTW, Madden 07 gets $12 at BB. I think that's a little higher than most places at this point.

That's kind of scary. Hope they get more of Madden 08 in to purchase. There's always the "keep it" option with the rentals, however. I've done this before where I rent it using one of my free online coupons (if you don't, the $7.99 rental fee is now NOT deducted from the price) and then say I want to keep it using credit on my account to purchase it.

They don't like it too much, but it works.

Also, if anyone is interested, Rumble Roses XX (360) dropped to $9.99 used at BB/GR. Probably another one of those price drops that they held off on until after the B1G1 sale was over.

$24.99 yesterday. I noticed it because it was right next to the memory card adapter I picked up for $14.99. No way in hell I'm losing all my Hot Shots Golf data!

Also, Virtual Tennis for PS3 is $39.99 new. Not sure if we discussed that here yet.
 
Traded in Enchanted Arms for $36... my EB claimed they had no used copy, as we all know the store locator is inaccurate :roll: But I had a consolation of a gutted copy at the GameStop next door.

First trade in ages, let's hope my Blockbuster makes it worthwhile by getting at least one of the big Nintendo releases this fall.

Finally picked up my NCAA 08 yesterday, now I just need my 360 back from repairs. I went to another GameRush by work, and they had TWO Elite boxes sitting out....I'm assuming they were empty since they were in front of the counter, but I was going to ask.

Although, I only have $170 in credit now....so, $300 out of pocket is a bit much. I guess I could get a bunch of EA and flip.
 
Hey guys, I need some advice moving GR credit to EB/GS credit or "cashing out" by getting something that holds value, at least close to MSRP. My store hasnt gotten a wii in months, and probably never again will. I have about $200 at GR. My original plans were to get a wii (paying cash for the difference)and sell them on craigslist for MSRP (+tax maybe), but can anyone point me to more fruitful possibilities. Thanks for the advice in advance.

I'm in the same situation as you and I don't want to buy overpriced DVDs that they sell either.

Use your trade credit for MS point cards or Wii point cards. You sell them for near cost.

This would be nice but none of the stores around me have them only a few Xbox live cards. Although I would really like to have the Wii points. Would you know if we can used the gift cards online on their website?

You did pretty well on most of those games (some of those TiVs went up from $1 a year ago to $6 today). You may have done better on eBay for some of those, but with the fees and the hassle, I think you made a good choice.

Just a request for anyone else who posts lists to be added to the wiki: Alphabetical order helps a lot.

Why is the credit tied to the store you did the trade-ins with?

I went to Blockbuster yesterday and asked the clerk to see if I could use my credit. He told me he didn't see it and told me the credit is available at the store I did my trade-ins with. Any easy way of getting that credit transfered?

I thought they issued the credit on a gift card... Did they just "save" the credit on your account?
