Sales Rumors/Upcoming Deals

There will soon be an additional 300+ items added to the 50% off sale that is currently going on. A list will be made available on here when GR's finally get the email (current expected date 4/20).

Okay, I think I saw the list of new titles that are going to be added to the 50% off clearance, but I'm not 100% certain that's what the list was. Call me 95% sure at this point. The prices for these games will be active tomorrow if they are indeed 50% off.
That would be rather sad if they stopped getting new DS games in. Hopefully they'll at least get NSMB, then I guess I can work on spending my credit in other ways. Worst case I'll hold it till November and get Super Paper Mario, assuming they get any more GC games.

Does anyone else talk really loudly and exaggerate their enunciation when talking to GR employees, or is it just me? Seems to save me from having to repeat and spell things too often.

No Lost Magic, no Odama.
Well, Botticus, I think even if things don't change we need to find a more reliable place for DS games. I'll give them one last chance with NSMB. If they don't get THAT in, then I'll definitely go elsewhere for DS games. Hopefully I can still get PS2 and GC games there as well as the new systems. Pretty damn stupid to stop carrying the hottest gaming product on the market though. My GR sells a lot of DS games - to me mostly, of course. Though someone else bought up the other 3 Super Princess Peach they got in, and someone has been buying Mario Kart there (my preorder and then, finally, the additional copy they got in 2 months later that would have been mine if I hadn't gotten it at EB in the mean time). I also noticed that someone snagged their copy of Castlevania the other day. I was counting on picking that up in some future clearance. Also, the clearance DS games are nearly gone now, and I have only gotten 1 or 2 of those. It sounds like they just got rid of the DS games at that one store without clearancing them though. That most definitely sucks.

No new info on this trade-in deal that supposedly starts in the AM? I guess we'll see what tomorrow brings...

I can't wait for the 75% off sale - I'm hoping I can use that to convert some GR credit into GC credit. I can get my DS games there :whistle2:(.

So, any updates? Any new deals? I always thought they started on Tuesdays? Who knows....I have some old XBOX crap to get rid of and a few 360 games possibly.

Any recent 360 trade-in prices?
In particular: (looking forward to NEW sports season of games....so, want to get the MOST I can)
-Madden (will get NCAA and new Madden)
-NHL 2K6 (Will probably get next year)
-NBA 2K6 (just dropped to $40 retail, so I may just keep it)

Madden still looks like it going around $30 shipped on Ebay. That's about $25 after shipping and fees and probably what you'd be lucky to get for it in credit. I'm going to dump mine and use that $25 for NCAA in just over a month. I haven't touched it since I got Battlefield 2 weeks ago, I could always rent it with Hollywood Video/Gramecrazy free rentals if I need a football fix next month. :)

I looked at the Map for this week and there are no new deals. No mention of a trade-in deal anywhere.

The only thing of interest was that they are no longer taking trade-ins on anything other than GameCube, GBA, DS, Xbox, Xbox 360, PS2, and PSP. They were instructed to field destroy all the games for systems other than those except for PS1. They will continue to sell their used PS1 games, but they won't take them in for trade.

Oh, and Tomb Raider for Xbox 360 will still be worth $35 next week.

So they're supposed to just destroy all N64 & GB/GBC games? Any idea if the prices in the system dropped to almost nothing along with that order (ala penny guides, etc. at EB/GS)?

Yep, they are supposed to just destroy all the older games (not sure about the systems themselves, but probably those too). I don't know what would happen if you tried to ring one of them out.

When are they supposed to "destroy" the stuff? I'll hit the dumpster since they'll prolly just throw it away. :D LOL one of the stores around here has several n64 games and even 2 systems.

I'll be right by there tomorrow i'll have them ring a few things up.

They are supposed to destroy the stuff immediately. The store I went to today had already destroyed their stuff yesterday. They only had a handful of N64 & GBC games though.

Another bonehead move by BB/GR. This isn't like penny guides where they send back the covers (or whatever) and get credits from the distributor and then are required to destroy them. They get NOTHING from destroying them except lost time and garbage fees :D. Why don't they just put them in a bin marked "free" (one per customer)? It would seem to be a good PR thing, if nothing else.

^I don't get that whole "destroy because it is considered defective" concept either. Why throw away something like old games that probably still work? I remember asking a TRU employee about this idea when I bought Harvest Moon: Another Wonderful Life for a penny. He told me that they had to destroy that game, but most of the time if it is still good/useful they would take things home for themselves. You can't beat getting something for free, unless they pay you take it off their hands. :)

I'd never even heard of Game Rush until I moved to Indianapolis and realized some Blockbuster stores had expanded video game sections. That said, the regular Blockbuster store in my home town was still a favorite place of mine to get used video games cheap. They always sold their previous rentals and they'd often get old video game stock transferred to them from stores that were overstocked or going out of business. Also, they seemed to get a lot of video game stock in from stores that Blockbuster had purchased/taken over. Considering that Blockbuster has had video games for sale for around 20 years now, I doubt if they're going anywhere. Sure, the video game department may shrink, but there will always be deals to be had at Blockbuster stores, especially when they discontinue renting games from old systems (I made out like a bandit when they stopped renting PS1/N64 games).

Hopefully, they keep allowing people to trade in old games, since Blockbuster is the only store in Indianapolis where I consistently find great old Dreamcast, NES, SNES, and Genesis games for $1 each. They also get in the occasional game like Paper Mario for N64 for under $15. I wish EB/GS and the other video game chains would adopt Game Rush's vintage game pricing (all games not in the system get you 25 cents in trade value and sell for $1) instead of cutting those systems out of their inventory altogether. There are still plenty of people out there that are willing to trade/sell their old NES/SNES collections dirt cheap but when they get denied at video game stores and told they won't even give 25 cents a game for them, I imagine a lot of those games go straight to the trash. Not everyone is a collector and I'm sure a lot of people just want this "junk" out of their basement.

You didn't read the news I just posted did you? All classic games are gone, and ironically enough, straight to the trash.

I don't see the local managers throwing anything in the trash. They'll put a clearance price on them and throw them in a bin somewhere. They could give two shits what corporate tells them to do. They have their own sales all the time too...like 50% off certain recent games...when there's no national sale. Lots and lots of "manager specials" here...pretty much a new one each week.

I may hit up my favorite GR today. Last time I was there they still had several hundred N64, GB, and other classic games.

I also know another GR where there's a copy of Paper Mario 64 hidden below the Gamecube games because they don't have an N64 section anymore. I've been waiting for them to have another used game sell since it's priced at $15. I'm sure that will still be there since none of the employees knows it exists. I love it when they throw stuff under the shelves to rot. I found quite a few Gamecube MC Groovz bundles that had been collecting dust where no casual shoppers would notice them.

I can't imagine a GR with 100's of classic games in it! For the last year and a half I've only ever been to one GR. This Thursday night I hope to hit up 2 or 3 in Atlanta. It will be interesting to see how different they are. My store never even had most of these things in it to get rid of (classic games or MC Groovz bundles!). And a "manager's special" at my store would mean the end times are a-comin'. (OK, to be fair they were dumping the original Xbox's late last year in some kind of bundle with a couple games that I never saw mentioned on here - must have just been at my store).

The locations in St. Petersburg seem to have already cleared their stuff out. I was hoping they'd be behind the curve, like they often are. The 4th street location had Paper Mario 64 with a manual for $15 that I had been thinking about buying...I guess I should have made up my mind sooner.

I dont think they would give the games away for free if anything the employees would take all the classic games home I know I would.

So i guess its there lucky day and not ours..'no trade in deals'.

I bought that one from that store about three weeks ago! It had been sitting there for almost three months before that and I thought about buying it too and finally did. Sorry! You did have plenty of opportunities to get it before me and I left it behind several times. You can't expect a good deal to stick around forever.

The 34th St. S. GameRush cleared out a ton of shelf space, but nothing appears to be missing aside from the zillion used copies of Gun and DBZ games they had before.

Blue Springs, MO location still has lots of PS1 games for sale. Nothing good, and most are disc only and expensive, but they're still there. No one I liked was free, but if they're still there tommorrow, I might be able to take them before they're thrown out.

I can confirm all retro is gone. Destoryed, not thrown away. CDs are marked with a razor, and games should be smashed with a hammer.

Wonder why they are clearing out old stock..hmm....

Maybe because Blockbuster has no idea how to run a game store? Forget any kind of clearance sale, because that would actually allow Blockbuster to get some money out of their remaining N64/GBC inventory. Tell me that most of them (non-sports) wouldn't sell for $1 each.

That's what I'd been hoping for -- I know the SNES/DC sales seemed to do a good job at clearing things out quickly and made for some good bargains.

Huh, I could have sworn that I saw it just a few days ago. Like you said, it's been there for months, I figured that if I didn't buy it nobody would. I'm glad that it didn't get destroyed, anyway. :)

Yeah, it seems like every location in town has stacks of Gun and Destroy All Humans. It makes me wonder if I missed out on another Red Ninja-like trade deal or something.

Not sure why they wouldn't clear things out like they did with NES/SNES. Those certainly sold for a dollar, unless they destroyed those at some point as well.

Or I guess they can destroy merchandise for no benefit.

Regardless if they can sell this old stuff or not they are making room for the downside of GR. They have to cram the entire store into 40-50% of its current space. I'm shocked they still deice to sell PS1 games as most are disc-only sports crap.

hmmm...probably because they are trying to downsize and consolidate some of the gamerush stores...

oh no they aren't selling dreamcast games anymore...that probably means they are shutting down all gamerushes by friday !!!!!

They aren't getting rid of the PS1 stuff, so they probably wouldn't think too highly of you just going in there and taking them.

man, GR really pissing me off. every time i call to ask them if they have odama, they tell me they don't carry it. then i say i have it preordered, and then they think for a while, and then tell me that it's on order and that it's coming.

I got New Super Mario Brothers today!! Oh yeah, actually, my wife picked it up at Fry's. Screw GR :D. If they ever get it I'll return it to Fry's but since I got it for $26.99 that is an acceptable price if my GR preorder never comes in - then maybe I can move that to a $50 PS2 game, then move that later to a Wii or PS3 game.

Forgot to mention that earlier, Odama came in today.

So did the new X-Men game.

Hmmm.... I was kind of getting used to the idea of NOT getting Odama - think I'd rather save the preorder for something else. If mine doesn't have it tomorrow maybe I'll switch it quick before it comes in :D.

Wow, Blockbuster corporate is more stupid then I originally thought.

It seems like Shipwreck is the only one that really goes there on a regular basis... you must have a shitload of credit to burn through, or something like that. Better dump that stuff on Ebay before Gamerush has nothing left for you to buy, except overpriced movies.

Well I'm going to hit 2 or 3 GR in the Atlanta area this Thursday evening. I have it all planned out and I'm hoping I don't get stuck in some work-related dinner (I want them to let me go at 6 or 7 so I can run around :D). I plan to burn some credit as there were a few clearance games I couldn't find at my GR or trade for with people here. Plus there's just the curiosity factor about seeing another GR. I just wish I had something to trade in!

Hmmm... There appear to be several EB near where I'm going to be that have Galleon in stock :whistle2:k

What is worrisome is that it's so blatantly obvious that they don't care about their used game business. I was very suspicious before, but this is ridiculous. Why don't they just do a Memorial Day sale where they sell them for dirt cheap? Even if they don't make much money, they'd get their valuable rack space plus make customers happy. I haven't tried to accumulate any more credit for months now (but that's actually a good thing for them, I guess).

Yeah, it doesn't make much sense....I'm surprised they just didn't sell them to another company even. I have not been to mine lately, but my store didn't have TOO many older games. They had a small section of Ps1 crap, but that's about it. They did need more space though since the PSP were confined to a small shelf and the 360 Used games were in the counter case.

Tax credit. They get more for that (and all in one shot) than selling it off piece-by-piece over time. Better for them, sucks for us.

I stopped by the GR in Rock Hill and they had about six copies of New Super Mario Bros and I picked one up with some of my left-over credit.

It's kind of odd, that location usually always gets new releases while the one a few minutes away from my house rarely gets anything in. The Rock Hill location always has the best selection of used games as well. No doubt the fact that Winthrop is about two miles down the road helps that situation.

Well it figures that since I (actually my wife) went out and bought NSMB at Fry's that they would get it in today. Not that my GR has it - or at least they haven't bothered calling me yet. Oh well...

I haven't been called, but I just called over and she told me it's in without even thinking, so that's a good sign.

Here's hoping that luck carries over to Odama and maybe Lost Magic.

At this point I don't care if they're lackluster games anymore... they're making it rather difficult to spend credit, so I gotta do what I can.

The reason you might not have received a call about New Super Mario Bros. is that it rings up in their system as "Magnetica". This is advantageous though as "Magnetica" rings up as $29.99, while NSMB is listed at $34.99 in GR's system.

The also received The DaVinci Code.

Well, it would be advantageous if I just bought a copy instead of preordering. And going through the trouble of cancelling my preorder to buy a copy would be silly for a $2 cash savings.

I guess that means I shouldn't bother preordering Magnetica cause God knows they wouldn't be able to figure that out.

Wait, so when you call and they "clickety click" on the computer to see if NSMB is in, does this mean they will say it isn't even if there's a stack sitting right in front of them? Because they'd have to look under Magnetica to see if they have it in stock? If so, that's

Question is, do I waste time (and gas) driving up there to pick it up (IF they have it) and then return it to Fry's. It cost $28 at Fry's, but only $12-$15 in real money for my GR preorder... Damn, I probably ought to do it. Besides, as Botticus says, need to spend the credit somehow anyway - if I keep the Fry's purchase I am NOT using my GR credit :D.

I called them and they apparently do have it... Dammit, oh well, I can get lunch up there as well :D.

(Un)Fortunately, since my GR doesn't carry DS at all anymore, I don't have this conundrum, as I bought NSMB at CC during lunch. Besides I got to have a nice little adventure getting it (see the sticked Ad-thread with $27.99 NSMB @ CC in the title if you want to find out what happened.)
My GR has 4 copys of Hunters and what looked like a dozen or so Tetris games and many mnay other games
Wow, you must live on some sort of parallel bizarro Earth :D. My GR has about 30 DS games total - and half of those are the clearance titles (multiples of Tiger Woods and Madden mostly). Hopefully I can pick up Metroid in Atlanta.

They had my NSMB - unfortunately I wasn't able to take advantage of the $5 mistake as they delivered it as my preorder. When I asked what the retail price was (to see if I get get the difference as a credit) they looked up NSMB by name (as opposed to scanning it), and of course it is listed at $34.99.

They also had Odama but their 2 copies were totally crushed so after accepting the delivery I decided to return it. I have a feeling this will end up being on clearance sooner or later anyway. It makes me cringe when I see all those copies of Metroid Prime 2, Baten Kaitos, and SSX on Tour which I paid either $30+ at other stores or $30 via the GR preorder deal for. If Gizmo is right I should expect to be able to pick up Odama cheap from them sooner or later :D.

It looks like the N64/GBC section is gone, though it was hard to notice before anyway (what with its 6 games). However, instead of contracting the space, they have expanded the used GBA section to include it. They had way more GBA games than I remember seeing before. They also had some half-decent used DS games for a change - Mario Kart and AC. If there is ever another Buy 2 Get 1 on used I might pick some of those up (another MK for multi-card racing with the kids + WarioWare Touched which I never did get).

Edit - Oh, I suppose I should run through the other "info" I got today. Absolutely no news on trade-in deals except that it has been "8 months" since they last had one :D. Also, they aren't taking PS3 preorders because Sony hasn't released the pricing info. Hey, I report, you decide .

They already got to the retro stuff at the UCF GR. Just dumped them, not physically destroyed. Oh well, no tears as they didn't really have any golden oldies. Now the GR down the street...

I asked for and got the Odama table display. It's a bit disappointingly beat up. with the worst of it being a tear at the top. Damn, I should've asked if I could have one of the two little Harvest Moon sheep just sitting behind the counter.

Well I went into a local GR today, to trade in some games...and to see if they had NSMB...however, i go in, and of course this anal a$$ manager has to be working...doesn't know crap about games....then he tells me he can't take my trade in because there is no cover art...i tell him that i've been trading in games to various GR's w/o the cover art or even cases...he says GR policy states that they cannot except games unless its complete...then he starts babbling about also not being allowed to give trade in price quotes over the phone...i told him i've traded here before many times w/o problems, and then he says if he finds out who's been excepting trades w/o cases and manuals, he's gonna write them up...such a sad guy, doesn't know crap about video games, and he acts like its his merchandise....i hope GR dies...but after they get Wii and PS3!!!!!!
