Preliminary word from gamestop has just come in this morning to the systems, letting them know about this promotion.

CREDIT GOES TO StormKing3 on the IGN boards. Here is a quote from him:

"I wish I could tell you more, but that is all that is known on my end at this time. If you want to call your local GS, tell them to check their "go store" or "go system" if they are not yet aware of it. I asked this clerk to check even though she insisted there was nothing. Appatently it was added this morning without prior notice. This is breaking news ATM. Even for the employees."

It seems that many of the stores are nto aware of this yet, and it will be a couple days until it is officially advertised.

I have called my local stores and ask them to check, and they have confirmed they have received the info.

This is great news for those looking for upgrades! Call your stores and see what you can find out people :D

HEADS UP ABOUT A SYSTEM TRANSFER....

THE ONLY WAY NINTENDO CAN DO IT IS YOU HAVE TO SEND IN BOTH SYSTEMS AND IT TAKES A MONTH TO GET BACK

ALSO

EVERYTHING DOES NOT SHOW UP ON THE NEW SYSTEM .....

ALL games will transfer to the system BUT THEN you have to REDOWNLOAD ALL THE GAMES YOU DONT HAVE ROOM FOR

IE say

3DS HOLDS 600 blocks of data

you have 30 games on your system each of them are 50 blocks (meaning 1500 blocks)

so you have 12 games on your system and 18 games on your memory card

WHEN YOU DO THE SYSTEM TRANSFER IT WILL SAY ALL GAMES TRANSFER

You will look at your new system and only see the 12 games on the new system.. You will have to take those 12 games MOVE THem to your Memory card.. GO back to the internet REDOWNLOAD 12 games
Transfer those 12 games to your memory card GO Back to the internet REDOWNLOAD the last 6 games

so its not a simple one time thing

found this out when i moved 70 games from an XL TO A 3ds

ALSO YOU CAN ONLY MOVE GAMES 5 times

tempted but i think i pass cause they will probally be 150 or less with gift cards at thanksgiving

I been playing the DSI XL VITA AND PSP and its not that bad of a thing Playing the 3ds .....

I probally buy one at 150 since my 3ds is working just fine and is under warranty till 2014

ALSO Love how people think the 3ds will crash in price when the XL hits... THE DSI XL been out for 2+ years and never hurt the price of the DSI SYSTEMS
Are they giving you 100 dollars store credit? or original payment? I dont want to do it if i get 100 store credit back that defeats the purpose for me.
since i used store credit, that's what i'm getting back

Ah okay then. Makes sense obviously. Like I said, my best buy is going to match this for me, I just hope they let me system transfer somehow.

I can't tell if you people are lying or are deluded:

Note: A transfer can only be performed once in a 7-day interval.

 • Any pre-installed Nintendo 3DS download software will be transferred from the source system to the target system. However if you delete your Nintendo eShop account activity on the target system after the transfer, you will no longer be able to redownload this software to that system from Nintendo eShop.

Proof. Because I'm all over youtube and I can't find one person whining or complaining about it.

Edit: Also, you don't have to transfer over anything on your SD card.... the only issue I've seen is that once you do the system transfer the SD card in the 3DS no longer WORKS in the 3DS. You take that SD card and put it in the 3DSXL and it works like a champ.

Who lied to you?
going from DSi to 3DS lets you transfer whatever games you want, that gets saved to the 3DS internal memory. Whatever you have currently installed on DSi will transfer to 3DS just fine, and that whatever you don't have installed will transfer a certificate, so that you can download it.
THAT'S THE ONLY PART YOU SAID RIGHT, and even so was still slightly wrong.
3DS to 3DS transfer is MUCH simpler. transfering DSi-Ware is the same, as that is still on the 3DS's internal memory, everything else... easy peasy.
Most things on the 3DS are saved to the SD card, so once you transfer the major things on the 3DS internal, DSiWare, bookmarks/history from internet browser, eshop account info. and other tiny things.
All you need to do is swap your SD card over to the new system which carries all of your eshop games and pictures/videos

If you have NO DSiWare games, the process is pretty damn quick. if you do have DSiWare it will take a little longer.

But you do NOT need to send it to Nintendo. It's all done at home.

You can transfer from DSi to 3DS as many times as you want, as you transfer apps individualy (infact you can spread your apps among different 3DS's (no you can't send more than one of same app for obvious reasons))
3DS to 3DS is more of a full system transfer It can only be done 5 times and will combine the old system and the new system into 1 account.

What does that mean? Simply put if New system is fresh, it will be exactly like the old one. if the new system is already full of other stuff. then they will combine to hold whatever both systems had into one. This will however make you lose money if you own duplicates (no way to get a refund for combing 2 systems that own the same game) and the eshop balance will be combined as well.

Hopefully this clears up everything that the above post said wrong.

I transfer my DSI XL games to a 3ds... Went in and did the steps the UTUBE Is showing .

REbooted up my 3ds and 60 of the games were not on the screen ... pop in the SD card and it said NO GAMES FOUND..

Called up nintendo and they said a system transfers only transfers the LICENCE to the new system if your system does not have the memory to store it on the screen the games will NOT TRANSFER .. You will have to go in and redownload all of the games into the system (what i had to do and took another hour)

IT took me 1 hour to move around 70 i think i had games from DSI XL TO 3DS then it took me around another 45 mins to an hour to transfer the games off the 3DS to the memory card hook online to REDOWNLOAD The games then transfer them to the memory card and then redownload more games.

i probally left 15 to 20 games i did not even redownload cause it was taking too long....

Nintendo is the one who told me you can only DO a system transfer GAMES 5 times (meaning 5 system transfers) Meaning if you had a 3ds and move every month for some reason after MAY Your games would not transfer cause you moved them to 4 other systems

about the nintendo thing someone said Called up nintendo to see how they would Handle this and i was saying the only way Nintendo will Transfer the titles is you have to send in both systems it takes around a month to get systems back and They will charge you a fee to do this (though they may wave it off)

i know for a fact if i take the memory card i had in my DSI XL and pop it into my 3DS it will say NO GAMES FOUND

maybe 3ds to 3ds will be easier but saying DSI XL to 3DS is what happened to me

and by the way

DSI Money WILL NOT TRANSFER TO 3DS

ALSO ONE BIG THING

YOU MUST BE HOOKED TO THE INTERNET THE ENTIRE TIME OF THE TRANSFER So you need internet access to transfer the games

This is because DSiWare saved to you SD card is NOT installed to your DSi, it's not like putting wiiware on the SD card of your Wii.

All it is used for is holding, on the DSi to play them you need to copy them over back to the internal memory.
Any DSiWare that was currently installed to the DSi when transferring will remain installed on the 3DS after transfer so long as you have the space for it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTufj1zC5vA

I have transfered both my personal DSi to 3DS
And I have also transfered my gf's 3DS to her Zelda 3DS when that launched.

If you have no DSiWare a 3DS to 3DS transfer will take a very short time, about a minute.
If you do have DSiWare it will take a looong time. Well over 30 min if you 3DS is full to the brim with DSiWare

ANYWAYS, the whole point of this thread is about Transfering from 3DS to 3DS XL. nothing to do with DSi as most of us have already done that.

Long Story short, when you transfer from 3DS to 3DS it will transfer ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING
Except for 1 thing, and that is your credit card information.
After you transfer over. simply take your old SD card and put it in the XL and you will be back in business as if it was your 3DS the whole time.
(if you have a 2GB i suggest copying it to your computer, and transfering it to the 4GB included with the XL, though I highly suggest just getting a bigger SD card all together, at least 8GB)

While this seems like a fair promo, does anyone know if any retailers are doing any 3DSXL specials for those of us who aren't trading in a 3DSm?

You hear that, MidnightMetal? *winkwinknudgenudge* ;)

On a side note, I kind of like your abbreviation of the standard 3DS as 3DSm, like it's Small. :)
For me personally I would rather take the 100 dollars and save the time and hassle of ebay or craigslist just for an extra 30 or something.
This. I'd really rather not deal with trying to sell a system with design flaws (loose hinge, top-screen scratch problem). Its something that I think GameStop/BestBuy would understand but maybe not the average buyer. I admit, the first time I used my 3DS I thought there was something wrong with the hinge and I was thinking about returning it.

Seems like an ok deal, but I don't want to lose my ambassador games if my local gamestop doesn't allow a transfer (which they probably won't knowing mine.)

Find a GS with wifi nearby, go to a mall store or plaza or something and you might find wifi nearby. The store employees would likely let you sit on a bench in the mall and do your transfer. Though you might have to find wifi that doesn't use a login screen if you have a DSi which is very hard to find. However I know of a location here where you would just have to go a little ways from the store to get wifi and it doesn't have a login screen.

As much as I want an XL I think Im gonna have to wait until I see a bundle/color I like. I hate buying portables because there is always a sweet bundle that comes out that I wish I had waited for. Plus, the kids are going back to school, Im broke. Damn responsibilities.... always gettin in the way of life

Important question! Sorry if it's been discussed. While transferring, the data on your old 3ds gets deleted but will the data in the sd card also get deleted? Or can I just transfer the data over and then switch over the sd card with the rest(games, not pictures).

I bought a 2nd 3ds off someone who had more games than I did so I transferred his into my 3ds and I redownloaded the rest. So I don't have all the games he owned in my eshop account. Now I'm scared to do the transfer!

The system transfer copies everything over that saved on the system. As far as things on the SD card, you can just switch over the SD card to the new 3DS, or copy it to a new SD card on a computer (this is what people will wanna do when upgrading to XL)

I'll probably end up getting a 3DSXL when it drops in price so I can finally start playing DS games. This sounds like a fairly decent deal for an upgrade, especially if you already have credit at GS.

Anybody hear of any other colors coming out for this in this near future, as in say, X-mastime or is it just red and blue for this year?
Anybody hear of any other colors coming out for this in this near future, as in say, X-mastime or is it just red and blue for this year?
Well they never release info on new colors in the US, but the only other two colors that even exist right now are the grey and black, and the all white.

Based on Nintendo and how long it takes to release white here, I would say the grey is more likely to come first, but they could come at the same time.

They usually release a limited edition console & game bundle (for the same price as the regular console-only version) on Black Friday. Last year they had 2 bundles (red 3DS with Mario Kart & black 3DS with some design on the outside with Zelda) & the previous year they had a red Wii with NSMB (my 1st Nintendo console since the SNES!). They're going to have a 3DS XL & NSMB2 bundle this year from what a suppose Nintendo rep told one of the local Gamestop's but who knows until it's officially confirmed. I'm going to wait for that bundle if it actually does come out. Otherwise, I'll just ask for it from my wife for X-mas, LOL!

I want to eventually get the XL, but I'm probably going to wait until next year because:

A. I don't really like the colors too much. My favorite color IS red, but I just don't like how it looks. The silver that other regions are getting looks pretty good. Black would be cool too.

B. My 3DS rarely gets played- except for right now because of Kingdom Hearts 3D. There isn't really much else coming to the 3DS this year that I want. Plus, I've already considered selling my 3DS multiple times because I'm kind of meh about it. PS Vita gets a lot more attention, and has a lot more games coming that I'm interested in.

Also, probably not going to get rid of my old 3DS if I get an XL. Mainly because I know that there are going to be games that require you to have two systems in order to do something you should only really have one system to do (Pokemon transfers anybody?), and it becomes a pain in the ass to ask a friend or somebody to lend you their DS or GBA or whatever just to do a five minute transfer/unlock.
The manager at my local GameStop said they got an e-mail regarding 3DS XL upgrades. He said it would start Sun. August 19th.

I don't remember all the prices but it should at least give us an idea.

DS Lite - $40
DSi/DSi XL - $65/$85
3DS - $100

I assume DSi is $65 and DSi XL is $85 but I don't remember exactly as I only have a Lite and 3DS.
Can't believe this thread went nearly 100 posts without anyone mentioning this. The GS trade in thread has had this info for almost 3 full days now with more values as all the other major DS releases will be getting a bump too.

Really bummed I missed the $115 or was it $125 some said people said they got for trading a 3DS a month back :(

But $100 is an ok trade in price, I think I'll do it and not even do the transfer since I only had a couple games and already beat them.

Can't wait for Sunday :D

okay quick question then....

i have a 3DS with 50 Games in it and 20 more i can download later

I so a system transfer to the new 3ds XL any clue how long it will take ...

so your saying i can pop out the memory card on the 3ds and it will work on the XL without redownload

will those 20 games i can redownload on the 3ds transfer over to the XL even though i never downloaded them

if i knew i could go into a gamestop... do a full system transfer take like 10 or 15 mins and have everything on the XL without any problems i probally do it in a second

Wow, nice. I agree with those that say it's just not worth the hastle for selling on ebay (especially since I'd do a system transfer so wouldn't get a bonus for selling an Ambassador system) for a few extra bucks. Hopefully my GS will have plenty of stock.

Question: Can it be purchased at 1 GS, then the 3DSm traded back into a DIFFERENT GS? I'll be out of town this weekend so just wondering.

I can understand not picking it up if you do not see yourself playing the games in the near future. Perfectly understandable. However, not buying it because of the color of the system? I didn't much like the color choices of the original 3DS, but that easily and cheaply remedied. I bought a colored aluminum protective shell for the system and you can barely tell what the original color is. Not to mention, after a few drops, I know that the case protects the system well. Color really shouldn't be an issue.

This is tempting with the system transfer. I bought my 3DS new for $125 so it's kind of like a wash if I trade it in. Hmmm...

This sounds like the way to go.

How does the DS XL compare to the 3DS XL? I am thinking of trading it in for an upgrade bit want to make sure its of the same quality before I do so.

Does anyone know if there's going to be a special trade in bonus for the dsixl? I checked with my local gs and was told by the manager it will be $60 this sunday but I checked with another store and they said there was no such special and that the current trade-in is just $26. Thanks in advance.

Also, I've checked with multiple stores in the NYC area and be careful if you're upgrading systems. Many I've talked to say that while you CAN go home and transfer data to the new XL, when you bring your old 3ds to trade in you will either a. not get the $100 or b. you will get it as store credit.

If a dsi xl gets $85 ill be trading two in on Sunday. That's more than they're going for on EBay. Is there an official confirmation of that quote?
