If you want to buy a used game, never consider buying from Gamestop.com. The website says "It is guaranteed to work on your GameCube video game console and may not include a box or instruction manual." It means it!! I bet more than 90% of their used games don't come in a box or instruction.

I just received my order of two used games yesterday(4/24). One comes in disc only, and the other one doesn't have manual but does have the original box.

The one coming in disc only is Viewtiful Joe. You know, its used price is $24.99, even more expensive than the walmart deal posted yesterday. Thus, I wrote to Gamestop.com and asked for return.

This morning, I just received their response.
" Unfortunately you are not going to be able to return that game. Thank you and have a great day. "

What the hell???

The return policy of Gamestop.com just sucks! So does their used game quality.

I never order from Gamestop.com again!!
 
I bought four games from Gamestop during the buy one get one deal. I got Windwalker, Dark Cloud 2, Dynasty Tactics, and Suikoden III.

Dark Cloud 2 and Suikoden came in cases. Dark Cloud 2 came with it's manual but Suikoden did not. The suikoden case was missing half it's front cover. The Dark Cloud 2 was severely water damaged, with weird residues on the disk(don't ask!)

Windwalker and DT didn't have any cases.

In total I paid a little under $70 for all four. I must admit I was slightly dissapointed. Especially after the used disks I got from EBgames looked brand new.

I called last week and had no problem returning them. At first I was worried they would try to hassle me. But the guy I talked to was pretty good. I shipped last week and hope to hear something from them this week. If not I'll give them a call.

I'm glad I returned them. I picked up a copy of DT 2 for $10 at BB and did a trade for DC2. In a sense, I got two out of four of these titles for approximately the same price new.

I would recommend calling and talking with a person to negotiate a return.

Oh, and I don't plan on buying used games from them for a long time.
 
Gamestop does suck. Actually, buying used games online has always sucked for me until the new EB return policy. If you are not satisfied with the quality of the used game you receive, take it to your local EB for a return or exchange with your original packing slip. I've done it many times already with no hassles. EB online sends me garbage at a great price. I take it to EB B&M and exchange it for a copy in mint condition. Although I usually feel a bit guilty doing this, so I usually purchase another title from them at the time of exchange to smooth things over. My local EB guys always treat me right, so I like to return the favor.
 
The majority of used games don't come with the original case or the instructions, and it's been that way for years...heck, since the NES era, IIRC.

Why do people always expect used games to come in like-new condition? They don't...get over it.
 
I've never ordered anything from used from gamestop.com, and after reading this i won't be. I've only ordered one used game from ebgames.com and that is timesplitters, which isn't here yet so i am not sure of the quality.
 
I bought Raw 2, Counter-Strike, and DOAX from GameStop.com and all three of them came with case and instructions.
 
Lots of horror stories going around about buying used games online. I'm only buying used games (at least online purchases) through eBay, or better yet, Half.com. You have better recourse if the game is not kosher. The big chain stores don't really grade used games on quality. A complete game in near mint condition is worth the same to them as the same game with dirt, scratches, and no case or manual.
 
I guess when you're buying a used game online it's YMMV. I lucked out with Ebtgames and got poor results from Gamestop.

I'm eyeing buying a used copy of Mark of Kri from Ebgames. First because I missed out on the $10 new deal and now it costs $20+. Secondly, a used version will cost $8.50 with free shipping. I bought Breath of Fire Used to save five bucks and it turned out to be as good as brand new. I'm hoping I get the same results with Mark of Kri.

I think that some of the used games they sell are returned new games that have been opened. At least, That's what I hope. Hopefully Mark of Kri will arrive as good as new.
 
I hope you paid with a credit card. If so give them another call tell them you want to return the games and if they give you more BS, then inform them you are returning the games and will be disputing the charge with your credit card company. Make sure you use signature confirmation or certified mail if you return it without their approval.
 
I never buy used PSX, PS2 or GC games online, since I like to buy my games complete. It's just too much of a risk that the game won't be complete. When I buy something from EB or Gamestop, it's always B&M, so I can make sure I'm getting a box and manual with what I buy.
 
Not sure why anyone would buy used games from them when it clearly says "may or may not include original box and instructions" and then get pissed when they show up without the boxes and instructions. Buy from ebay from a seller that has actual pictures of what your buying posted or buy your used games from the b&m store where you can check to see what it comes with and its condition before buying it. And why even bother buying Viewtiful Joe used for $24.99 when brand new it's $29.99 everywhere. Not really saving much there when you factor in shipping.
 
when u exchange your game at ebgames b/c your game wasn't in good condition when u bought it online, do they give u instructions and box too?
 
everybody probably pissed because stores like EB and gamestop dont accept games for trade in without cases or instructions (specifically sucked for n64 games). So why dont a huge majority of these games come complete?
 
You guys should compare prices at gamefly...Never had an issue ordering used stuff from them and the original package (case+manual) is always included and in great condition.
 
EBGames.com always includes box and manual for the PS2, GC, and Xbox games. That's why I only order used from them. However I had a good experience with videogamedepot.com when I ordered a used Lunar 2 for PSX. Everything came in GREAT condition.

Also EB ships faster.
 
Yeah, don't buy used games online unless it's on like, Ebay or Amazon. Always go to the B&M when it comes to the big names. In regards to Gamestop, we don't penalize for no box or no instructions on a trade in, so we don't cut prices or give any slack for it. If you don't like it, by all means, write the company. (I'm sick off people trading in shitty scratched up games without case or manual as well)

What I angry is not the game doesn't come in box and instruction. The thing is, they don't let me return the goods I am not satisfied with.

I order lots of used games from EBgames.com. Several times, I just returned the used game which is badly scratched or having a cracked box without any problems. This is we call "Customer Satisfaction".

For Gamestop.com, however, if you want to return a game, you have to get a RMA first. In other words, you need to get their permission first, then you're able to return it.

This is my first time ordering from Gamestop.com, and will be my last time also. I got rejected to return a merchandise that I am not satisfied with. I complain because I can't return it.
 
The merch was exactly in the state is was supposed to be, wasn't it?

They told you the games may not come with instructions or cases, so where's the problem?

Is it that you expected a price match in a store that does not offer price matches?

the difference is that with the carts, the important stuff is inside the casing. you can store a bunch of cartridge games on top of each other in a pile and it's ok. if the plastic is a little dirty or whatever, it's ok. it doesn't have to be in great condition. and personally, for disc games,i don't expect the case to be in good condition, but the disc has to be. you can't store disc games in a pile and expect them to be ok, nor can you expect them to work if they are all scratched up.it's just a more fragile format that requires greater care.

of course, if you order a game from a website that states that you may not get the case or instructions, you have to be prepared not to, not matter how unsatisfied you are, because those were the terms you agreed to. i ordered two games in the buy one get one deal at gamestop, and one didn't have the case. i haven't opened the package and checked the disc out yet, but assuming that it's in good condition i'll keep the game. if the item is defective, then it's a different story.
 
I just ordered from GameStop.com and got a Sonic Mega Collection that didn't work... I was able to mail it back and get a working copy, but it was a hassle (and neither had a box or manual of course). In the same order I got Mario Advance 4, and it just occurred to me that it's supposed to include two e-reader cards to unlock extra levels. No manuals I can understand, but I'm gonna raise a stink about the e-cards since they're required for certain levels, essentially rendering the product I've recieved an incomplete game. Here's my email, I'll update you when I get an answer:

Hello, my name is Gabriel Saraco, and I have a question regarding a recent order (order # XXXXXXXXXX). One item in the order was for a preowned "Super Mario Advance 4" for Game Boy Advance. The item arrived in acceptable condition, however I was dismayed to find that the item arrived without the manuals, packaging, or th two "e-reader" cards that are supposed to accompany the game. Now I understand that it's fairly common for preowned games to ship without manuals and packaging. However, my primary issue is with the lack of e-reader cards, since these are required to play certain levels in the game. Missing packaging I can live with, but without the e-cards I have essentially received an incomplete game. I am not sure exactly how to proceed from here so I would appreciate any help you have to give. I was wondering if I could have the cards shipped to me, or if perhaps I could echange my copy of the game for another copy that includes the required cards. Thanks for your time!

I think it pisses me off ever more when they say stuff like, "Thank you and have a great day." Thank you for what? And how the hell am I gonna have a great deal when I got ripped off $5?!
 
If you really want a manual/box with your game then buy from Amazon or Half.com. At least there 50% of the vendors will describe the condition of the product and whether there are scratches on the disc. At Half.com you can email the vendor before you buy and ask any questions you want about the product. The vendors are usually pretty good about writing back, so you have an idea of what you're buying. A lot of the vendors will ship 1st class so you'll get your game in 2-4 days, and sometimes you can get expedited shipping.

With Gamestop or EBgames you never really know what you're getting. Dealing with individual vendors who have a reputation to protect is the way to go.
 
I am an ebay and half.com seller, and I am also a buyer. As said earlier, retail chains do not care if the used game being turned in is exactly like new or if the game is barely useable. This is an unfair policy that punishes people that care for their games (like me).

For example, I bought Metal Gear: The Twin Snakes for Gamecube at retail, which was 40 dollars. I called Blockbuster and Gamestop. They offered 21 and 20 dollars respectively. Keep in mind the game was in mint condition and was about 4 days old. So I sold it on half.com for 30 dollars, although the going rate was about 35 dollars.

Whenever I sell things, I tend to overmagnify any potential downfalls (like smudges on the case) to protect my customers. In the end, everyone wins.
 
just got a response from GameStop:

"Dear Customer, We do not require the e-reader cards with the game when it is traded-in. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. You can return the game for a refund if you wish. Just let us know if you want to do this. Thank you and have a great day. Your Customer Service Agent, Craig"

I really don't feel like mailing this back... although, this may be a perfect excuse for my to get my $34.99 back that I paid for a crappy used copy of Sonic Mega Collection (it was in the same order, buy 1 get 1 free). Hello, Best Buy!
 
Incomplete game? What are you talking about? Is a bonus item and I think an extra small level. You can't even activate it without the e-reader. Crap, it was USED. People that trade in GBA games have the box and manual 1/10th of the time, and thats not even including the E-reader cards.

Out of curiousity, how do you expect stores like EB and GameStop to stay in business? You think when they sell Metal Gear New they make a crap load of money? No, maybe $3-4 bucks each after they pay for shipping (maybe). When they buy it used for $20 and sell it for $35, they make $15. It dosn't matter if its a 'new' game, its still used. What happens if they game dosn't sell till it hits $14.99 used? They now LOST money. They have to gamble on the fact that it may or may not sell.

It's all in the SEMANTICS, my friend. "Incomplete game" is the angle I'm using, ever since I found out there are e-cards that are supposed to come with the game. It is a small detail, but I actually do have an e-reader and I bought both of the SMB e-reader add-on packs. So it's annoying to be missing two of the cards. I want those cards, but I goofed and bought a used copy. And this is the cheap-ass way out. What would you expect a CAG to do, buy another copy of the game?

why would you feel guilty about doing that? it says on the site that if the condition is less than favorable you can return it. you shouldn't have to buy another game while exchanging the other used game. i wouldn't.
