Gamestop Labor Day Yellow Tag Blowout

jt2k3

CAGiversary!
(Im back from the dead)

Gamestop will be having a yellow tag labor day videogame blowout. Thursday night each store's label printer will print up new stickers for 500 games to be retagged for Friday morning, and the beginning of the labor day game blowout sale.

The list of games will not be known until coorporate sends the stickers through thursday night, but get to your local GS this weekend for some hella deals :D

Most of the price changes are up on the website too, just go to the price drops section and refine your search results to yesterday and today. As a fellow employee, I must agree this sale sucks.

EDIT: Online and in-store prices are different, but it gives you an idea of what's on sale.

Just got back from a DFW GS. They were still putting the tags on so I may try back later. No great deals but some decent ones on both new and used games. Used Halo is $10, used Halo 2 is $25, nothing else sticks out in my mind.

I just checked the Gamestop close to me but they only had the yellow tags on used games. I didn't see anything worth mentioning. I'm going to go to the other Gamestop tomorrow and check that one.
GS deal always $uck....Esspecially buy 2 get 1 Free (they always Rise the price on USED games & have buy 2 get 1 FREE promotion) :)
Remember kids, although a dollar sign might look like an 'S', it really isn't....

I saw Metroid Prime for $5, and Serious Sam for the Xbox for $10, and nothing else really noteworthy.

Sort of off topic, I saw a new copy of Sky Gunner for $15, do you think I should jump on that?

Thank goodness I live in Hawaii and the Time Diff is great. I wake up at 10am and then its like late afternoon where evers. I love this. Thanks goodness I didnt waste my time.
GEnma onimusha for 5 bucks? NOw if I can find it in good condition...
My EB has it for $8 new. Is it worth it?

Apparently, its not a sale per-se, but a bunch of pricedrops on some games. And the money you save ranges from very little to, well, not much more.
From what I saw most of the yellow tagged games still had their old tags up and the prices were identical on 95% of the games... fucking bs sale.
Out of 502 Price changes I stuck up today I only saw 2 that were the same, the rest were lower.

Main notables withere spawn figures and lotsa cards and boosters going to .99Cents, and some of the accessory kits being nicely priced.

MK Deception Controllers went to 12.99 which is great for new ps2 controllers plus nice collector item.

Rest were small game price changes, cant remember, sick of pricing atm :p

some items still cost more b4 the used price was jacked up wreckless was really cheap dont remember then got hiked up to 12.99 and now its lowered to 6.99 pretty sad really does anyone know why they jacked up the use games? like cpacom vs snk 2 from 17.99 to 29.99?

um it wasnt before the sale it was just a while back ago like 2 monthes why did they just hike up the price?:bomb:

ok, thanks for the informaion, guess I don't need to kill myself gettin' to "The Sale" this time around.

Just got back from the Orem, UT Gamestop and, as I expected from reading through this thread, the yellow-tag sale was a big disappointment.

I did buy a "used" (though obviously brand-new) Rhapsody (NOT yellow-tagged) for $39.99. I'm not sure why I did because I hate paying more than $20 for any game. I have 7 days to return it, so I guess I can try it out and see if it's any good.

There was a "used" Persona 2 there as well.

It looks a lot like English...

I thought it was an urban legend (and a piss poor business practice) that they raised prices on used products before a sale.

The Columbus OH Morse Rd. (Northland) GS didn't have much going on.

Like Gamestop, this "sale" seriously sucks. Most of the games they marked down are still more expensive than they are at EB.

worst sale ever. i walked in thinking i would get some bad ass deals. man was i disappointed. i saw the yellow tags and thought it mean like 30% off or something. i asked the employee and he said it was the real price. i walked out then and there.

Worst.Sale.Ever. I went in and looked for 30 seconds. The employees know that Im a rare game hunter, and they stopped me before I walked out. The dude was like "hey, I got 2 games you'll love." I said, "let me guess, Rhapsody and Persona 2." He said "ya, wow. how'd you know?" I said "I bought 5 of each a month ago." It was nice of him to be watching out for me though. Still, this sale sucked.

I stopped by my GS to "check out" this sale...which turned out to me squinting to even find more than a yellow tag here and there - and with pathetic "sale prices" - which all of you already know.

But - I did happen to find, new to their display case, both Lunar games for PS1, complete and in decent condition (mint extras, pretty good games, so-so music CDs and beat to hell boxes) for $70 total. ^__^

Boo sale, yay Lunar!

I bought both of them for $10 each last year. No shit.

Price on this was raised several weeks ago, the game has become harder and harder to find. Same thing happend with MvC2. It used to be 24.99, now it's 39.99.

Gitaroo-Man as well. Used to be 14.99(!!!), is now comfortably at 39.99.

And yes, they raised the trade in values as well.

These Gamestop bargains make me squeem with excitement over the possible EB sales when Gamestop completely controls EB! Not.

It is ridicoulus how Gamestop will raise used game prices. I can understand the chane in Persona 2 ($17.99 to $29.99) becuase you are getting a new game (although they shouldn't have taken the wrapping off). Other games though like the aforementioned Gitaroo Man and Valkyrie Profile ($34.99 to $49.99) shouldn't have been raised, especially when your on-line store doesn't reflect the price change.

They also raised the price of Rez not long ago.

yep, what a bust. BUT my GS did have Persona 2, which I put aside to pick up later.

Isn't it funny how all these stores got copies of Rhapsody and Persona 2? I wonder why someone would buy them at GQD then trade them in at a loss.

They didn't. My local Gamestop manager told me that when the stores get new PSOne games like this they have to open them & sell them as used, since they no longer carry new PSOne games.

My Gamestop had River City Ransom for the gba new in box for $15. It wasn't even yellow tagged. I passed cos I already own the game but it seemed like a good price to me. But what's up with the price for their N64 carts? They must be crazy.

Just to save a few people some time the local GameStop in College Mall in Bloomington, IN has nary a yellow tag anywhere in the store. But, if you want something like Rhapsody, they have a good looking copy available for $40. Minor scuffs on the case itself, though, so if you're really avid about the case being pristine as well...

Otherwise, their stock was good if you like new games for most systems, really poor if you want to pick up anything used. That and their prices, save for several games (ie: Guilty Gear for XBox, a respectable $12.99), are much higher than EB.

It's too bad they have to be proper about things like this. It's not like any innocent kittens would be killed if they just put a used sticker on a sealed game.

This is why i am so appaled by the fact that EB games is turning into gamestop, i absolutly worship the local EB games, i swear i am the person that buys the most from their store lol. Not only does gamestop sell new games for an average of 5-10$ MORE than other stores they also mark up the prices on used games. I have not bought anything at gamestop after seeing their prices for n64 games, its absolutly insane, i would never buy a game there after seeing that kind of markup on dirty, dusty garage-sale quality cart only n64 titles. They have just turned me off with their pricing completely, unless they go the way of EB games' pricing which is unlikely to happen. I am basically boycotting gamestop cause of the insane markup on games, the gamestop here repreatedly throws out boxes and manuals for PS one games thus making the games much harder to obtain complete for collection purposes, and charge about 10$ per game or more for disc only. Eb games only charges like, 1.99 for most ps1 games lol, its really cheap.

I will be turning to online deals for most of my game purchasing it looks like, especially for preorders on rare games that i cannot trust gamestop to obtain for me.

As for this sale, it was basically a joke, all they did was mark down a few titles and stick yellow stickers with the same price over the white stickers on some select games, it was obvious that this is what they did too because i keep tabs on all prices in all stores (yes i am that much of a cheapass!), the yellow tagged games were mostly the same prices with yellow tags stuck right over the white ones. No wonder the games there are so high priced they waste money on pointless stickers to make everyone think they are getting such a good deal lol.

I didn't get a chance to stop by the local Gamestop this weekend, but it's nice to know that I didn't really miss anything. It's a rare occasion when I actually find anything for a reasonable price there anyway, so it will indeed be a sad day when EB Games is no more.

Well yeah, I bet some store just put yellow stickers in the label machine, and have everything look yellow, and therefore, be on "sale".

That's just your local GS, not mine.

next year there one company, but gamestop takes eb's POS system (thank god) more organized (though it wont affect u all that much ;P)

Actually, that happens too, only I believe when someone trades in a factory sealed game. A few weeks ago I bought a factory sealed copy of Bloody Roar (PS1) with a "used" tag on it for $6 after discount. Someone also traded in a bunch of factory sealed Pokemon Puzzle Leagues (N64) that were tagged "used" at $12.99 (though most are gone now). The games actually had big KB Toys price tags on them for $54.99.

Good for you, except for the fact that EB charges much, MUCH more for most of those games that you collect (IE, most RPG's, and other popular but hard to find games). It's sad when I copy of Parasite Eve is $15 at EB, while it's only $7 at Gamestop. Why do you even try?

As to that last paragraph, I don't know what to say about you if you honestly keep prices tabbed on all of there games, that just makes me shudder at the thought of meeting some CAG's in person.
