Gamestop Reform, Need Help, Please Read

If you use that loyalty card from TRU, you might wanna check your spam folder as they gave me a $4 off coupon for any purchase just about there. Plus they currently have a 20% off clearance sale going on this week.

So all totalled I got around $6 off the game. I paid about $4.22 out the door for C&C.;)

Thanks for the info.I only used my card once on Super Mario Bros All Stars Wii. Not sure if they will send the coupon to me. Is the xbox 360 street fighter 4 limited edition with viper worth it?

I cant wait for Marvel vs Capcom 3. :)

Not sure. I know I saw it about 3-4 months ago at TRU here, but I only have a PS3 currently.

What I'm most annoyed by though is that TRU had the original Uncharted in the red case GH version for $6 just before Black Friday on clearance, then jacked it up to $14.99 for BF and now it's back up to $29.99.

Makes a lot of sense to jack the price since many people just purchased a PS3 during the rush. Makes you regret not buying it up when it was $6.:whistle2:#

Oh but I did. I bought up like 7-8 copies to help out other CAG's right before Christmas. But since then I've been suggesting they pick up the ESA Game Pack, which has Uncharted, Tomb Raider Underworld and Mercenaries 2 in the pack for $30 total.

Followup to my post earlier about buying a resealed copy of NFL Training Camp for Wii. I just now decided well it must be a gutted copy that was on display and I don't feel like going back there to exchange it since I'm keeping it for myself anyway.

I open it up and it is clearly used. I mean it doesn't show a lot of use and most likely someone tried it once and decided to bring it back. The plastic around the accessories was ripped open and the game wasn't sealed (games in bundles are still usually sealed, but not positive with this).I didn't think that it was possible to return open items at GameStop. Ridiculous they'd sell this to me as new. Maybe a lazy GameStop employee took a return without really looking at it.

They better not give me any crap when I take this back to exchange it for an unopened copy.

Any games that is bundled with other stuff is sealed. Before a new game is released, employees do get to "rent" the game. So maybe the game was played a bit or could been a customer return. Gamestop dont sell anything sealed because its gutted.

I think you can return the game within 7 days of purchase, but think its exchange only. I havent shop at Gamestop for so long. You can take it back, but they will just give you another one that is opened. This is why it's better to buy it somewhere else (Amazon, Target, Walmart, etc if you paying retail price)

Just got back and they exchanged it no problem. They don't keep these gutted. They keep them on a shelf behind the counter. Everywhere else still has this at $100 or otherwise I wouldn't have shopped at GameStop to begin with.
:applause: They stopped doing the sticker on the coverart around here a while ago, but some games still exist that have them on there.:bomb: If they've been on there long enough the glue hardens to where it takes either a hair dryer to heat up the glue and soften it enough to peel off easily or some Goo Gone and risking stripping off a layer or two of the color from the coverart to remove them.

That's why if I do buy anything from them used I nitpick everything, even if there's a line a mile long behind me.
I just buy games from Amazon (and everything else from Amazon) now because its just more convienient to have things shipped to my door. Especially since you have to jump through hoops and wait a long time to get electronics at retail. I am not waiting 30 min for the employee to open the case only to have them then pitch me a million accessories and warranties when I can have stuff shipped to my door hassle free and at better prices from Amazon. I love shopping in retail, so I am not lazy, but I mostly buy clothing and even that is rare, as far as the cookie cutter products that every retailer carries I can usually live without them.. Since the retail clearances have all but dried up in my area and my Target's definition of a clearance game is about the same as Walmart's its just easier and cheaper for me to get stuff from Amazon or Ebay. Amazon also has a better selection of merchandise so I can find something that really fits in my needs instead of settling for the limited inventory of Walmart and Target and possibly getting a product that I am only half satisfied with.

It was cheaper for me to buy my games from Amazon during their Black Friday sales in bulk than it is for me to buy them individually, I don't "need" to buy games until next black friday but I will be making the exception for the Pokemon Black and White RPG's because Pokemon games are just worth it for me at full price.

I definitely nitpick everything in Gamestop, but if I am getting a 2.99 game that would cost me more elsewhere then I don't nitpick as much, but I also refuse to buy a game that does not come with case and manual, maybe for .99 if it was a title I really wanted to play.

If I was paying $60 for the latest Xbox 360 game and I was handed an open copy as new with a scratched disc from being in an envelope I would be livid (of course, I just wouldn't buy it).

I have a problem with the stickers on a used game, but I should expect that because the game is used, but to place stickers on the cover art of a new game is inexcuseable.

These days, online prices are better. I also do my shopping at Amazon.:)

You know i bought a new game recently thinking i'll give gamestop one more chance and totally regret it.

I opened the game they slapped that dumb seal that makes it a "sealed" game. Open it up and was pissed cause I asked the girl to check the disk 1st cause i didn't want a jacked up disk. Sure enough it's all busted up and i go to take it back and she says it's our fault... I say are you dumb cause we were here less than 30 minutes ago... I went home and scratched the disk for the sole purpose of making myself drive 30 minutes back to deal with you....

She starts telling me off so i finally yell... 1st time ever I've yelled at someone... And i told her at least check the disks, they "seal" them without looking and the once the seal is broken it's our fault even if the damn product was already damaged in their little drawers.

Never buying from GS again. I pre-odered LBP 2 CE and would cancel it, but they only give CREDIT back. WHEN I GAVE THEM FREAKIN MONEY.

Now that right there is bullshit. They've always refunded my transactions in the method in which I paid and actually some $5 pre-order deposits I've done in credit they've paid me cash back on.;)

If anything, I would call corporate if I were you and complain that the store will not refund your money on a pre-order you paid cash for. As long as the receipt says you paid in cash, that is what they should refund.

Some stores try bullying you into keeping your cash with them by saying you can 'only transfer it to another pre-order or to buy something else' and that's a total lie.

Like I said earlier in the thread, if everyone who complains about Gamestop on here filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission over the gutted games and other practices then something might be done to Gamestop about it.:D

Thanks for telling me~! I still have the receipts too so I can prove it was all cash! :applause:

Sooo gonna go cancel it.

Make sure you try to cancel it with the person who gave you a hassle about cancelling it too, as it hurts their numbers. If they get too low on pre-orders and such they could be fired.;)

Whoa, guys. I didn't expect this many replies to the thread.

First off, I want GameStop to stop gutting games is because this practice actually makes the store a lot more confusing because there are shift changes happening throughout the day.

There are times when a gutted new game would be mistakingly put as a used game because there were no labels and such. I really frown upon that because then the inventory will say that we have X copies and we only see Y copies. This makes LP think someone is stealing.

The second reason is that customers can enjoy a fresh copy everytime they buy a game. Having a gutted game as a placeholder on the wall just seems dumb. It picks up a lot of dirt and a lot of curious people touch it before the buyer gets a hand on it so it is also a sanitary issue.

The third issue is that as we do TOHs (Title On Hand) we need to put up games that the computer says we don't have on the wall. Many times for me scanning the wall, the scanner doesn't pick up the game and says we don't have it while i am staring at it. Some employees/managers would not care and put up another copy thus adding to the wall creating more clutter. There were times when preowned copies get put up on the new section just because they have the same labels and everything. Just the word "PRE-OWNED" was on the label.

Having a display case up there decreases confusion and helps organize the wall a lot because the employees now know which are display copies and which are preowned. This method really helps in getting more sales as i have read most of your complaints and feel that this will decrease the "employee" testing and be more organized.

I think it would be a good idea for them to utilize an inventory "kiosk" that customers could use to look up new games. They could have one open display for each game on the shelf for people to see and the rest kept in back room storage. They could leave product in the sealed cases until it is purchased as long as they keep on top of their enventory. All used product could be kept on the floor. This would also reduce the handling of product.

Used product is fine on the floor, and fine if someone handles it because its already used.

Gamestop's business practices are just outdated, every other store here except Kmart puts the games in a locked plastic box to prevent theft, display cases are gone because it takes too long to find an associate to open one and get a game out for the customer. Both Walmart and target here have upgraded to locked boxes instead of a big display case that has to be opened by an employee. If Walmart and Target which are national chains just like GS can upgrade so can GS. This way the customer gets to handle the product and can see the entire packaging but doesn't ruin the game's artwork or box. The locked plastic box is obviously the preferred method of selling games since most retailers have adopted it.

An electronic kiosk won't work, most people who shop in gamestop now are soccer moms who don't want to look at electronics and who don't know how to use them (people here don't even know how to use a self scanner, which is why all stores here but one have eliminated them). They aren't going to know how to use an electronic kiosk no matter how simple it is.
