Instructions on finding games in the database and inputting the values from different sections can be found in my blog post here: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=14143. I would put the entire post in the thread but this is already kind of a large post.

PLEASE POST BASE VALUES & SYSTEM IT IS FOR.

FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming
No Information Yet: Connecticut, Idaho, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, Rhode Island, South Dakota

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

First post contains promo information and the FAQ. Second post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Third post has the PS2/GC values. Fourth post has DS/PSP/GBA values.
The computer would have applied the promo once they totaled the transaction.
The clerk did total the items and the only promo that applies was the 50% bonus. I even had a total of 3 games with me, and the better deal according to the computer was the 50%. If the Tales and Mario Kart showed up at $25 ea, I would be over $50 easy, but instead total was ~$44. Thanks.

Trade in 6/9/10

Base Value

Super Mario Bros. New Wii $25.00

DS System (Lite) w/AC & Stylus $55.00

I was surprised to get $55.00 $80 after bonus, and received the same amount for the PSP 1000 last week, when other cags the same day reported getting $35.00 base. Does Gamestop give different trade in prices for systems based on location?

You need to seperate the transactions to get the best TIV.
I and others have mentioned this before.

The person that scored $225 for the 80GB (BC) PS3 got a great deal. Just asked about it and was told the TIV is $150. They didn't believe the price was ever $225.

Tried to trade in MLB 10 but my edge card was causing their computers to crash. I was told this is a nation wide problem for GS with use of the edge cards. The other store in my area had the same issues. So if it is nationwide, people may have problems with trade-ins today. Just a heads up.
Is base $25 the maximum trade value at Gamestop for any game (excluding the promo) normally?
No, they sometimes have $30 TIV for newer released titles.

Btw, I know that the extra 50% doesn't stack with the $25 titled games, but can the extra $10 stack if you trade in 3 of the games on the $25 list?

I was under the assumption that the $25 base does stack with the 50% bonus.

is there an actual "official" list of the $25 base games. I know the OP has them but I mean online or at the store?

also any CAGs hit up a NYC GS recently? I plan on getting on buying an Edge Card + GM sub so I can then trade in some stuff.

DS: Overlord Minions $1.75 base

360: Rainbow Six Vegas $1.50 base

360: FEAR Files $2.50 base

after bonus & Edge $16.33. WOOT!

Put them into the database.

That is weird since they essentially removed Alan Wake from the list of games that earn 50%? That is a relatively new game.

No problem. Just saw that person a few pages back trade in the PS2 Network Adapter for $5 when I knew it was worth more, but what's it down to now, $20, $30?

Also should Wavebird controllers be added in addition to the Gamecube component cables? I remember when I got mine for about $15 each at Gamestop people seemed to think that was a really good deal vs. what it costs online.

Gotta love Gamestop's markup on Tetris DS. Offer $13.50 base, sell it for $49.99 base.

yeah, i was lucky my brother still had his ps2 network adapter. He let me grab it for free and now I got my ps2 hooked up to 150 gig drive :)
n iv got 4 wavebirds, but what's with it? is it cheaper at gamestop or sup? i know those component cables are rare, are the wavebirds?
Can anyone confirm if Wii- New Super Mario Bros. is still $25 base and qualifies for the bonus 50%?
It is as of 12:43PM (EST) today.

just to keep in mind, for those who wish to trade in games where it would be beneficial for you to trade it in for 50% or 3 for 10, separate the trade-ins.

For example, if I wanted to trade in Bad Company 2 and wanted to use the 50% deal on that game and have 3 other games which I would use for the 3 for 10 deal, separate Bad Company 2 from the other trade-ins to be safe.

I traded in some yesterday and they used RDR for the 3 for 10 deal, instead of the 50%, it took about 10 minutes to resolve the problem.

That sucks Ichigo. I have to remember that so I don't forget.
I know the 50% is better for $20+ tradeins, and that ends this sunday.
The trade in 3 get +$10 is good for $1.01-$19.99 tradeins, and good till 6/27, so that goes an extra 2 weeks.
This list is the guaranteed $25tiv and is good til 6/27 also.
25guaranteed_btm.jpg

I have to write all this stuff down and organize my playthru schedule :)

You are mistaken.

It is better to trade in games that have a value of $6.66 or more via the 50% deal and anything $1.01 to $6.65 should be traded in via the 3 for $10 deal (assuming they are for the applicable systems).

For example 3 games at $6 TIV each would yield $29.80 (under 3fer$10 and edge) and $28.80 for +50% and edge

For example 3 games at $7 TIV each would yield $33.10 (under 3fer$10 and edge) and $33.60 for +50% and edge

PS3

Demon souls $10
SSFIV $20

yes, i did separate transactions to take advantage of 2 different promos. re-bought them for $12.xx each with $10 coupon.

Yeah I just ordered me a copy of Demon Souls used off GS for 12 bucks. Finally got a chance to use one of these 10$ coupons. Any chance the 50% trade in gets extended? I would assume no since its a pretty good trade offer.
Hmm would it be a good idea to trade in NSMB and rebuy it online used?? I would love me some profitz
Yep you'd get double the credit. $40 versus $18 with edge/cag16.
Hmm would it be a good idea to trade in NSMB and rebuy it online used?? I would love me some profitz
Yes it would. If you have a 10$ coupon plus edge it comes out to 17.XX. Then it trades in for 25 plus 60% (50% and EDGE) for a 40$ trade in. 23$ extra in trade in is really good.

Even Amazon is offering 29.50 for the trade. I might use my 20$ SMG2 credit to get another copy for about 7-8 bucks, and be done with GS and these coupons. I doubt they will make it here to trade in for the 50% but getting Amazon credit isnt bad either.
Yep you'd get double the credit. $40 versus $18 with edge/cag16.
Or 20pre which takes off 20%. The total comes to 21.59 before tax. I paid 18.09 after tax using a 10$ coupon.
i just got a 360 disc from GS.com with a white sticker on the inside ring. anyone know what that's about?
They're not as rare as the component cables, but they're still fairly rare as they were released near the end of the Gamecube's life cycle and finding them in good, working condition is kinda hard I believe.

With the 50% promo and Edge, it came out to $28.80. The only reason I traded it in is that it came with my Big Boss PSP Bundle with the cardboard box (Damn OCD tendencies), and I wanted the LE version which only GS sells so I can have Kojima sign the artbook on Friday.

There are more perspectives and reasons to why people do certain things you know. Not just yours.
