Instructions on finding games in the database and inputting the values from different sections can be found in my blog post here: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=14143. I would put the entire post in the thread but this is already kind of a large post.

PLEASE POST BASE VALUES & SYSTEM IT IS FOR.

FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming
No Information Yet: Connecticut, Idaho, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, Rhode Island, South Dakota

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

First post contains promo information and the FAQ. Second post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Third post has the PS2/GC values. Fourth post has DS/PSP/GBA values.

hey guys.... what about 3rd party wired controllers??? Do they still qualify? I have the MAdCatz NFL 360 controller and thining about trading it in... guess it prob doesn't qualify though? I guess I could still trade it in though...

Was also told about the trade in promotion by a gamespot employee. According to her, that store should be getting the "small" shipment on Friday @ 10AM and it is 1st come 1st serve, as they weren't taking pre orders for it. Didn't ask about trading in multiple consoles though. To get the promotional credit, it all has to be on the same transaction.

anyone know where to get the disc for the wireless n adapter?

also, I was thinking about selling my xbox now and waiting until they release the inevitable reach LE xbox. you can't hold onto the credit, can you?
anyone know where to get the disc for the wireless n adapter?
Since they will want the official disk, my guess would be eBay or something like that?

Maybe you get an unknowledgeable GS employee that forgets to check for the disk?

No, because this specific promotion credit HAS to go towards the Slim purchase right there on the spot. You won't get this much for store credit.

So, I'm thinking of trading my 360 with my 120GB HDD that I bought off eBay for $65 and it isn't an official one, although they did a decent job at making it look official. Does GS have any way of telling if it's official or a knockoff? It works exactly like a normal 120GB HDD (except for playing old xbox games). I'm not sure if the barcode is actually the same as an official HDD.

I don't want to be a dick by trading in knockoff stuff, but GS has f***ed me over more than their share of times.

You'd be fucking over whomever bought the knockoff you trade in, not GS. They'd be making money off of it.

I'm pretty sure they send everything involved with a console trade in back to some facility to have everything wiped clean (accounts, credit card numbers). I'm sure they would find out then.

That being said, I wouldn't try it. It might not even scan.

Nonetheless, it's your call.
You'd be fucking over whomever bought the knockoff you trade in, not GS. They'd be making money off of it.
I thought about that, but then I realized that's just the way GS works. They buy stuff in shit condition, and sell off that shit condition stuff to some other poor guy (often me). At least the HDD works almost exactly as it normally should. If whoever buys it wasn't happy with it, they could return it.

Edit: I think I'll just swap my HDD with my dads official HDD and give him mine since he doesn't play Xbox games anyway.

Man... $165 if I trade in my system and my extra wireless controller with 120 GB hard drive. Not good enough for me, although I'm certainly not surprised that they didn't offer more.
Man, 2 idiots bought it for this price. Imagine what the 3DS will sell for if it gets released around the holidays as that looks like a sweet system.
I wouldn't be surprised if many more sell for similar prices once the initial shipment sells out in the first day and people are left empty handed and turn to ebay. Seems like the demand is very high right now for the Slim and with this rather quick, surprise release (Speaking of which, is there any word about how long these things have been in mass production?) I doubt there was really enough time to manufacture enough consoles for the first day rush, or for the following few weeks even. Guess well all find out by the end of this week.
Reading back, I think that guy was saying you can't DOWNLOAD your gamesaves, you can only download your profile and re-download your DLC.
Oh well yeah, that's kind of a no brainer, since saves are local and profile and DLC stuff were DOWNLOADED in the first place :p . At least I cant put the saves (which are relatively small) on my tiny USB stick though.
So happy I traded my 360 immediately after yesterday's conference.
Uh....why would you be happy? Seems like it most cases it's a better deal to do it now.

-btw, just out of curiosity, these new Xbox's (or the old ones for that matter) weren't assembled or manufactured at a foxcon plant were they? I think about that now whenever I buy some fancy new piece of electronics :p .

I am surprised by how many people are trading in extra controllers. The old controllers will still be compatible so why not just keep them and only trade in the one required for the trade offer?

$25 is still a good price for a used controller. You can often find them that cheap (or cheaper) NEW.
$25 is still a good price for a used controller. You can often find them that cheap (or cheaper) NEW.
I don't think I have ever seen one below $30 new. Guess I need to keep a better eye out in the future.

I could actually probably afford to dump one since we have three and we rarely use all three at the same time. My teen might say otherwise though.

Man I'm so pissed off about the accessories. I traded in the Wireless G adapter at not my normal Gamestop on Monday because I wouldn't be near my regular one until Wednesday fearing the values would plummet, and now I'm out $17.60. Grrrrr.

Wireless N Adaptor DISC REQUIRED - $50

has anyone ran into this? Seems super dumb that Disc is needed since most 360's will have the new firm ware already for it. Also who would know to keep this disc around.

I traded my old 20 GB hard drive for $10 credit a couple months ago. Now I could get $30, albeit only toward the price of a Slim.

Ok, can someone help me out real quick, just found out about the slim trade in. So I can trade in just hard drives and accessories and get the slim at a reduced price?? Because I got a bunch of wireless controllers to trade in and I have a 250 GB hard drive and 20GB hard drive. Can I just do that or do i need to actually trade in a 360 too?
I would cancel to my eBay auction and sell my Elite at GameStop if I thought they'd get enough systems.
Yeah, that is the only drawback to this deal. Hopefully it isn't one of those things where they never get enough in stock and leave a lot of people SOL.

I work nights so I can't be at the store opening in the morning waiting in line just to get nothing which would be an extreme waste of my sleep time.

Hey guys so what exactly do I need to have for the $100 trade up? Can it be a 1st gen 360 with no hdmi? WHat components do i need to have ? is the Hardrive included in the $100? Thanks in advanced guys.

No need to be a dick. I was just asking something I didn't understand. Anyway, anyone know if the edge card would apply to the accessories I'm trading in too?

HDD is separate. $100 is just for the core unit and one controller.

Also dont forget the power brick and some sort of AV cable. (and a wired or wireless controller)
so if i sell my core 360 and a controller but not my 60gb hdd can i use the transfer cable without having my 360 and just my hdd?
You can use the new slim console to transfer the old console stuff I believe.

If it the new unit has to be in stock in order to get this deal I don't know if it is worth it. One thing I absolutely hate is having to take time out of the day to hit the store just to find out none are in. They really should allow you to go ahead and do the trade and prepurchase the new unit.
Also dont forget the power brick and some sort of AV cable. (and a wired or wireless controller)
Aw, I need to bring the AV cable? Well, I imagine it would be useless considering from what i've seen of the back of the slim the port for it is no longer there I dont think...and one of th things that pissed me off most about having a non-hdmi pro (and the non-hdmi replacement they purposefuly gave me when they repaired it) was that darn jiggly optical cable, and now I dont have to deal with that it seems...still would have been nice not to NEED to go out and get a new HD video game cable (since I dont beleive the slim comes packed in with one).

I'm excited for this as I don't work until 5 on Thursday, so for the first time ever I'll have time to track down one of these and trade in a ton of 360 crap that's littering our apartment right now.
Also dont forget the power brick and some sort of AV cable. (and a wired or wireless controller)
can i give them a vga cable instead of the av cables
Does anyone know how likely Gamestop will have a used copy of Super Mario Galaxy 2?
Type in your zipcode on the SMG2 page to see if any of your local gamestops have it.

Never done a console trade deal before. I have the base system, an HDD, 4 controllers (No one ever comes over and my systems never leave my house so why not get rid of them?) and 3 games (Each on the $25 list).

Will the $25 hardware bonus stack with the extra TIV of the system and will it stack with the trade 3 games get $10?

Well for the system trade, you won't be getting the additional $25 bonus as this is a promo itself. You're just missing out on $5 as I traded mine in for $105 monday, BUT I'm missing out on $17 from the bump for the g wireless adapter:bomb:
Anyway, systemwise:
xbox w/controller and cables: $100
3 wireless controllers: $75
HDD: depends on size

Then the $25 games will get you $75, plus edge bonus (10% is based on TIV base for each game, not the $25). You won't be getting an extra $10 for 3 games as it's a seperate promo. But yeah, you're looking at $250+edge plus whatever value you get for your HDD size!

I'm actually contemplating trading in my 360 Arcade that I got at Walmart with the $100 gift card. I may also add:

1 Wireless Controller (maybe 2) - $25
1 20GB HDD - $30
Demon's Souls - $25
Uncharted 2 - $25
and maybe Super Mario Galaxy 2 - $25

When I got my Arcade, I spent the gift card on MW2 and some other stuff. I'm more or less breaking even as far the console goes so I'd pretty happy about that. However, since I just got a Wii and got SMG2 with it for full price, it kinda sucks. Also, I got Demon's Souls and UC2 at a B2G1 at Gamestop so I'm not taking too much of a loss but it's a pain considering I never really played the two games....

Maybe I'll just wait it out, beat the three games then trade them in. lol I feel so rushed.

Question guys:

Im guessing theres no problem if i trade in 2 complete 360s towards the new model?

My question though is, what would be the best route in getting my data onto the 250 hdd...ive only got a couple gig on my 360 as its a 20gb hdd, does gamestop do transfers by chance?

Also...for the 100 bucks credit per system, that includes everything including the original controller, and then every wireless controller after is 25 bucks?

Just want to get it all straight here.

So if I had the employees do the games and excess controllers first since they dont count towards the trade, Im assuming since the 3 games are on the guaranteed $25 list, they still wouldnt stack with the extra $10 one?

Alright lets see.

System + Controller - $100 (They take component cables right?)
1 Wired controllers - $20
2 Wireless controls - $50
120gb Hard drive - $40
Games with edge - $82.50 ($27.50 each)

Total comes out to $292.50 so far

I'm still curious too if you have to trade in the cable that came with it (which I may want to keep for now since unlike my pro the slim doesnt seem to come with any HD cable) or just give them any odd AV cable.

Also, with all this excitement over trading in consoles, is it possible GS will turn you away if they're set on consoles, or do they ship them off somewhere anyway?
