WELCOME TO THE NEW GAMESTOP TRADE-IN THREAD.

The new thread format will be a work in progress but this first post will be the promos that are active and useful information, but also wikified. The second post will currently be frequently asked questions but may move it into the first post. Post three will be historical trade-in values from before the list.

I had never gotten targetted extra ebay bucks until this past week after I turned on all promotional emails in the account settings maybe 3ish weeks ago. I've been a member for at least a decade without having gotten a single one. I also click through the promotional emails so they track that I'm actually going through them.

I have everything except sms/mms updates and automated phone systems. I guess I'll just turn those on.

Yep, both PS4 coupons expired yesterday. I ended up trading in my $8 PS3 slim from Goodwill for $115 and finally picked up a PS4 again, not that I'll have time for it or anything...

I don't remember if it was mentioned but seems like Halo 5 is $9.99 in store only at the Microsoft Store. Trades in for $13 base, $20.8 with all the bonuses.
 
Welp, I have a trade ban. Haven't traded in two weeks and I know I didn't hit any limits. I can't remember is it 30 day or 90 day trade ban?

I would look back at receipts (if you kept them), and see if an employee "goofed" on your trade ins. Also I seen that script kiddies are distributing peoples PUR info. Make sure you aren't using the same password here, on things like PUR, or any other website for that matter.

Do a lot of people have Microsoft Stores near them? The most we have is a small booth at the mall in the next city, and it doesn't have any of this stuff (I would have to order online/PM to Best Buy).

I only have one in the Houston area and I use it to PM at BB. I think I'll go in today though to pick up Halo 5 since that seems to be in store only.
 
Would I be able to price match the online MS price at BB even though I'm sure there aren't any MS stores within the vicinity?

First one is 30 days, next one is 90 days, and then upwards from there.

Clarify "goofed"? Not sure what you mean by that.

My first one was 90 days and this was back in January.

By goofed I think he means scanning a game twice. If you are already pushing the limit by trading in 4 copies, one mistake will push you over.

If it's in stock online it shouldn't be a problem. Out of stock will be YMMV but if you can get it to pull up a "nearby" store with stock, you'll have better luck.

Ouch sorry to hear. Aside from what Nick said about an employee maybe double scanning a game or two. You probably were reported by a junior detective and your ban being initiated on a store level. There aren’t a lot of anecdotes about what happens to junior detective bans but I wonder if that means you may not necessarily be banned for 90 days. I’m not saying it’s worse or better. Just that it may be for a different length of time.

I meant what Nick said. Employees might see this as a shortcut, but really it does you no good if you go over. The one time it did happen to me, I was fortunate I didn't have anymore of the same game to trade in. I addressed the issue to the employee and they haven't done it since.

Trade in more than 4 of one game (per platform) or accessory within a 30 day span. My first ban was because I let my friend use it and he traded in like 7 cables for a PS3 controller.

If you are suspicious or an associate digs through your account, they might flag you and a higher up might decide to ban you too.

Not sure the 4 item limit applies for accessories. Back in January and February I traded in five Dualshock 3 controllers and five Wii AC adapters in the same transaction, and I wasn't banned.

Edit: Also during the same cash as credit promo they had going on a few months back, I traded in five copies of Mario Kart DS within a 30 day rolling period and wasn't banned. So idk, maybe when I called customer service a year and a half ago they put a special mark on my account so that it doesn't ever get banned.

If you get a trade ban, its best to just let the account set for 90 days.  Loss Prevention can tell you why you got a trade ban but it could be a few days before they get back with you and really you don't want them to look into your account as they can see your history.  I actually just got off a trade ban on one of my accounts as of today which was right around 90 days. 

Its just not really worth calling or dealing with GS to figure out how long or why you got a trade ban.

 
Yeah I'm just going to use my fiancées account if I need to trade in anything. No sense in calling to check, I'll just ride it out.

Even the guy who told me about the ban today seemed shocked because he said that I never seem to do anything that out of the ordinary. Oh well.

Nope. Probably between purchases and trade ins it was around that amount. I went much harder on flipaggedon last summer.
 
If you have a passport you can create another account with your passport. The information has to be all different except your name. Thats what I did and I've just been using the passport account. I had a friend who had an out of state ID and was able to do trade ins this way with 3 separate accounts as well.

If I hadn't sat on my lazy ass and let the $100 TIV bonus for buying a :ps4: expire, I would probably end up with an Elite console and a $50 GC. I hate it when their coupons expire over the weekend. :)

Same thing happened to me but only because I didn't have an ac adaptor for my 360 slim. It just arrived today :/
 
I dun goofed. I got denied a trade for a game because of the redbox sticker so instead of going home and taking off the sticker cleanly and carefully so I can come back later, I decided to scratch it off with a piece of plastic so I can just head to another really close gs. Guess I scratched it off too hard and there's a pretty noticeable cut on the disc label. I've seen that before and the games are usually unplayable because of it.

You should ask if they take proof of payment as an OK to take it in. My GameStop just asks to see a Redbox charge on your statement.
