I just don't see a need for us to be bringing in complete strangers. Why does it have to be ritualized? Look at how Trakan came in; we spent alot of time playing with him, saw his talent, and asked him to join.
It should be a "Don't call us, we'll call you" kind of thing. If you guys want to play with people and check them out, fine. But this whole "Invite them for a week" thing is making it more complicated then it has to be. Just play with them, and if we all see that there's something to be had there, we'll bring them in. I don't think a week is enough time at all to assess whether someone is right for us or not.
Plus, putting ourselves in the position to have to kick someone is just going to make us seem like assholes. Honestly, out of 10 applicants, hw many do you think we'd keep? One? Two, maybe? That's an %80-90 turnaround. The more it happens, the more people are going to think that they don't even have a shot at getting in and staying in. Then, noone will want to join.
On the other hand, if we stick to the "We'll call you" form (as we did with Trakan), then there's no work involved regarding tracking how long someone's been trying out for; having to eventually kick them if they aren't flowing; yadda-yadda-yadda. It just seems like so much more work than it has to be with the tryout thread. Why don't we just play with people (WITHOUT inviting them into the clan), and decide from there if they work or not?
And Jimmie, Z and I did ALOT of work in the old clan. You may not have seen any of it, but we did. That's part of the reason I like our new clan; there really isn't that much work that needs to be done. You guys are just trying to turn something as simple as assessing whether or not someone can play with us into this overblown bureaucratic process.
So, let's just do it the way we've always done it to this point: just play with people.
Ugamer, I'm not opposed to bringing new people in. I'm just opposed to the way you'd like to have it done. And I know I can't be on as much, but at least I'm keeping in touch here and trying to get a heads-up on what's going on. I can't even remember the last time I spoke to z, so I don't know how much of a shit he gives. And rock is doing what he can.
But, if you guys really have that much of a problem with the way things are going, say it. I'm not talking about the Ryan thing; that appears to have been settled for the most part. I'm talking this kind of stuff, where the Staff's authority and dedication are called into question. If there's any other stuff you guys think should be improved, please say so. Noone is opposed to progress or forward-thinking ideas. But let's discuss them instead of springing them into the open.
