Anyone got any tips for learning grappler characters?
So far I'm picking up Abel, but I'd eventually like to learn Zangief.
The only advice I can give for grapplers (Abel is one of my mains) is learn the character inside and out. Gief and Abel play completely different and have their own Strengths/Weaknesses.
Abel's cross-up is great as well as his Mix-Ups, granted you can vary them a little. He builds up meter pretty fast with Marseilles Roll, but in certain Match-Ups, he'll need to burn it pretty quickly. There are also characters that shut down Abel's cross-up completely. Vary your Mix-Ups, score a knockdown and Abel can run like an avalanche.
Having the Marseilles Roll gives Abel good mobility (EX can get you out of tight spots), but if you use it too frequently you'll have players baiting it and counter with a throw/Mix-Up. EX Rekka has EX Armor so used wisely can help out.
I can go on and on about Abel's Strengths/Weaknesses, but again the grapplers play differently so I would learn basic pokes, normals and then move up from there to Combos, FADC Mix-Ups, etc etc...
