The official Street Fighter IV arcade sticks should be in GameStop's system for preorders as soon as tomorrow, if not... early next week.

The official names of the products are....

Street Fighter IV FightStick
Street Fighter IV FightStick Tournament Edition
Street Fighter IV FightPad

Expect some news next week on Capcom-Unity, SDTEKKEN, and SRK!

added some of you guys for SSF2HD. Won't have my headset (or a decent connection) back until next wednesday, so in the meantime, I had to turn down some invites. sorry!

also, moderately fighting game related..or not...but holy fuck and James Mielke's proposal.

i actually read his whole blog entry :hot:
Street Fighter IV FightPad
Cannot wait to get some info on this. Hoping it's like the Saturn controller (imho the best fighter pad out there, though I prefer the bigger original American one than the later one modeled off the Japanese version)

IIRC, part of 'Rog's charge punch was invincible--at least I think that's what I used to use back in the day. I'm outie so no console gamin' for me until beginning of next month. :p I was out in MM's neck o' da woods earlier this week, doin' the SeaWorld, SDZoo thang.

fuck fuck fuck fuck GGPO fuck fuck WHERE THE fuck ARE MY fuckING DP REVERSALS AND fuck HONDA THAT FAT fuck fuck AND HIS fuckING FREE TORPEDOS AND fuckING THROW LOOP BECAUSE HE'S SUCH A FAT fuck THAT CAN fuckING GET AWAY WITH EVERYTHING

gunm: in HF his TAP can go through fireballs but not in ST, use headbutts to get in a good range, once your in his face try to keep the pressure on, for footsies use his sweep and c.mk to crush his low pokes and c.mp if you anticipate him walking toward you. his combos aren't too important.

are you guys more interested in the remix mode of SSF2THD or normal mode? I was never too good at the game, so I might go straight for the remix mode.

I'll only play original offline or against people who know what they are doing. the remixed will make online better because less spaming will happen. I'm still blown away at how honda can fly through projectiles now.
I always get mixed with the diff. variants. of SFIIT. Mus' b ole age. :p
I know what you mean. seems like people use "Hyper Fighting" for SF2Turbo on the internet as well (my friends and I always just called it "turbo.")

MK Vs DC is damn fun. Plays like MK2 and makes it easy to do amazing combos and to let you look like some supreme badass while playing. Its insanely impressive for midway. Very fun.

I demand Rainbow Edition HD Remix!

Was SF2 Champion Edition the most widely bootlegged arcade game of all time? Because back in the day, I saw Rainbow Editions all over the place! It wasn't limited to little hole-in-the wall video stores and card shops either - I would see them at malls, Pizza Huts, skating rinks, and other "mainstream" places like that.

Rainbow Edition ruled! Totally blew my mind the first time I saw a screen full of hadokens

Tried to find screens of it, but found this cammy cosplay pic instead (semi-nsfw):

So is Blazblue just basically another GG game with higher resolution?

I tried getting into GGX2 a while a ago, but it proved too complex for me to enjoy. I'm sure they're great games, but all these Aksys games are starting to look like more of the same except for different skins. I tried to pick up Baiken and only got up to her basic loop combos. I really would get a headache whenever I tried to think about the whole Roman Cancel system and the multitude of other intricacies.

I think a big reason why certain fighting games do better than others is the control difficulty. Look at games like Smash Brawl (fighter or not) or Street Fighter 2 (plus its bajillion iterations) compared to the Aksys games. Not knocking Smash and SF2 as shallow games, but it seems like it's easier to find people more inclined to play them simply because they are a little simpler than other fighters where knowing the system like the back of one's hand isn't required to do something cool or basically have fun.

By this reasoning, I'm definitely for games with fewer buttons . Heck, if I can do crazy stuff with the push of one button, I'm in (though I'm sure it'll get old).

I dunno, anyone here think playing GG or other Aksys games too daunting? I hope I'm not alone in this sentiment.

You ain't alone. I really wanna play BB, but I'll be damned if it's going to be as complicated as Guilty Gear Whatever, or more. Nice that it's at SF State, though. I'm getting Wednesdays off work now, so when I get the quarters, I'll try it out.

Also BlazBlue at MarkMan's place.

And BlazBlue is not a GG clone. It is a whole new game.

Guilty Gear (and it's revisions) are probably the best made/thought induced fighting game revisions out there. They have a lot of changes between games. There is a reason why it is one of the highest grossing arcade game in Japan still.

I lost track of things though and never got around to actually playing the game again.

The point I'm making is that I needed a STUDY GUIDE to grasp the basic mechanics of GG. Compare this to ST, where you basically just need to know "super meter" and then you can figure out the higher-level intricacies as you go along.

And my no means am I insinuating that ST is shallow. It's just that, in GG, it takes a while before you can even properly interpret what you're seeing on the screen.

There certainly is a place for games with the GG learning curve, I'm just saying it's not for everyone!

Yeah, I've been to dustloop before, haven't been there in over a year. Barely anyone in the states even plays GG games.

I actually tried starting out in the fighter genre on GG. Boy was that a big mistake. Not until I started tackling ST or SNK games did I start to fully appreciate the genre and try to put a solid effort in learning the systems. Though my execution has a long way to go... very long.

And wow at the study guide.

Question: What bear is best?

just kidding.

Question: Do they make DAT files for GGPO? Either RomCenter or ClrMamePro DAT files? I know I can use the FBA ones but I'd rather have a GGPO DAT file.

IMO, the only real complex part of GG is its approach to frame data.

for one, the game has a mechanic that lets u decrease blockstun,

next, when attacks hit they have properties that say like "on counter this move will cause X frames of Y type of stagger" which of course opens the window for your character to capitalize on and do a combo.

BUT! Tekken does the exact same thing so it's really not too difficult.

as far as Roman Cancel system goes, Street Fighter 4 does a VERY similar thing with Focus Cancel so if you couldnt figure out roman cancel, get ready to go thru a similar frustration when learning SF4. Garou had a similar False Roman Cancel system also as certain moves could be cancelled and followed up with supers or combo extensions. I also thin Tatsucap's Baroque system is similar also.

Now, the thing that makes GG good is its balance and its uniqueness of characters. You can look at the whole game system and mechanics when in reality you really do not need to know like a large handful of that. When you play GG you play your character, you learn your character and when the game has a system mechanic that your character can take advantage of then you implement that into your playstyle.

for example, I use Axl and I dont care about Impossible Dust becoz I cant set up jack shyt with it and also coz my standard dust combo does good damage. I also dont need to use Jump Install except for those one-time situations when you want to do something that your opponent is not expecting, and if you play the game enough you'll already know how to do it.

in a game like 3S, you can succeed with Twelve or Sean, but you cant play them as a unique Twelve or Sean... you have to play them in a way that takes advantage of the same 3rd Strike system that each character is also taking advantage of. In GG, your strength is solely determined on how you play your character.

I need some advice guys i'm thinking of picking up Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 from xbox live tonight is it worth it?

I hear its a pain unlocking the three hidden characters

Its 400 points and i can't think of another good 400 point game

I played the console version of BlazBlue today. It looks ready to go already! But it's still pretty barebones.

Everyone look forward to it!

*does headspin*

When you say Garou, do you mean MotW? It never had a cancel system as critical as GG where you had to be within a 3-4 (forgot exact number) frame window to complete a False Roman Cancel. The Feint Cancel system in Garou is simply cancelling Feints between normals and there is a hefty window for connecting the normals succesfully I might add.
I didn't really like the demo for it. Fighting the controller was more difficult than the enemy.

UMK3 that is.
Very true... I accidentally jump all the time, and that can spell certain death!

Also anyone downloading the UMK3 demo out of curiosity should note that fighting the CPU is worthless. Like, moreso than any other fighting game. Either you memorize the patterns and follow them to the letter (very effective but very boring) or you just get mercilessly destroyed (annoying). Multiplayer really is the only way to go because the AI is terrible!

I can't wait.
btw, anyone up for GGPO at the moment?
Yeah.

Hey MarkMan you seem like you probably know stuff about emulation.. do you know if there exist DAT files for GGPO? Does anyone know?
I'll be hanging at the ST room.
Good games option. I could tell you were picking up on my strategies towards the last few matches... it's too bad I won't be able to play SF2HD: Remix with a keyboard. :'(

ggs phrost, sorry about all those horrible lag interruptions. I need to learn how to play alpha. I'm still learning how to play st :(

Still up for games, I'll be in ST room.

The IGN review for Super Street Fighter II: Turbo - HD Remix is up. Only 'Arcade' and 'Training' modes for offline players like yours truly. But other than that, it looks to be a winner.
