I just think 3D fighters in general can be too complex for their own good. There's complicated 2D fighters like Guilty Gear, but I don't think that stuff goes overboard with the random mechanics. I do remember thinking SCIV had too much shit in it, though... I love when you can just learn like 5 moves, and you spend the rest of your time just finding the perfect application for those things.

The mind games and traps are more fun with SSF2T as well since the possibilities are limited...when I know one of three things can happen, I'm more into it than when I know one of a thousand things can happen.

Wow, that was unexpected. And by unexpected, I mean that I hope the peepz in charge of MS' decision making get cleansed like the Chechen rebels did, because I totally saw some shit like this coming from a mile away.

Doesn't surprise me one bit. MS is the only one that can make wireless controllers for 360. That's why you don't see wireless 3rd party pads. MS likes to have it so you need to buy their shit to have a wireless controller.

MS likes money. Remember that.

Edit : Well, I did forget about the wireless Fisher Price instruments. XD

Have you ever woken up and realized you could play a game better than you could the day before? I have. Actually, today I feel like I understand how to use Fei Long at least a little better.

Gotta keep that pressure on, son. I'm not used to close-range characters.

Edit: I'm really thinking about getting that dual-mod for my HRAP3 now... I'll still get a SF4 stick, but it can never hurt to have two good arcade sticks, can it?

Holy shit, I'm becoming MM.

No way, Too Human, by far. When Dyack started posting on gaf about the game before release, shit got real. Then the demo came out and shit got even realer.

It's kinda sad that LBP didn't do better, but I've only seen people talk about creating stages...nobody's raving about the gameplay. That gay jewish nazi Apossum in the PS3 forum got me hyped for a little bit there.

I'm not sad LBP didn't do better. They didn't make a game, so... well, fuck them.

But yeah, Too Human was probably worse now that you mention it. Shit was fucking awful.

Chac, don't steal Fei Long. I haven't used him since my Genesis days. I was a long time Ryu user ever since I stopped playing the Sega version.

Yay, I did the 360 dpad mod where you boost up the pad with a circle cut out of a plastic lid assist, and the pad is responsive now. It's stiff as hell though, so I need to wear it in.

Nice being able to press left and down and have it respond EVERY fuckING TIME now though. It clicks loud now too on every press.
Fei Long is whack yo
Not as whack as yo mama. Sheeit, you mama is so whack, she jumped out a plane with parachute pants on.

Haha! So I just got accused of being cheap and a noob in a scoreboard match that I didn't even win, by a guy with a turtley blanka.

Pretty entertaining.

I saw this quoted on gaf

points scale is simple. i dont know the actual equation or anything. but you get more points beating players with more points than you, and you get less points when beating people with less points. you also accumulate less points over time if you keep beating the same people over and over, even if they have more points than you..

the same is true for losing. if you are high ranked, more than likely not many people are above you with more points. so you will be playing lower ranked people most of the time. so with that said, your losses end up being more detrimental than it would if you were a low rank, since losing to a low rank will destroy your score. you can win 30 matches against average rank players, then all of a sudden someone like valle jumps on for his very first ranked match ever(he has zero points), you lose to him, your rank plummets severely and his skyrockets, and those last 30 wins were for nothing.

win/loss ration does nothing for rank.

pimp willy: honestly, i think quick match is a horrible idea. the game will match you up with anyone, regardless of ping. ill be damned if i get matched up with a 200+ pinger thats super low rank and kills me cuz of massive lag. it would be an awesome option if you could filter out certain ping's. if we were able to do that, i would only use that. but we cant =(

i think im done with ranked matches anyway. ive only legitimately lost 3 times in ranked (one to sirlin, one to bbh, and one to shirts, respectable losses), but im at 10 losses, cuz dropping is still a mess, from beta. im just playing ranked to get my 100 win acheivement and im done =/

good luck getting top rank with the cheating. i can assure you that the #1 guy right now cheated to #1. cuz when you drop on your loss, you get the loss, but you dont lose your points. so droppers points will ONLY go up.

o yah! HD Remix tournament tomorrow at the arcade!!

but it's scheduled to start at 6PM and I was planning on getting there when the place opens to play BlazBlue...

it's gonna be a looooooong day >_

should be on in a few minutes for a bit. Might try out Sagat tonight to see if I like playing as that dude... he's lookin to be top tier it seems.

Fei Long is fun as fuck to play, though. So is Cammy.

So I got tired of that stiff ass 360 pad mod I did, so I did some digging, You can replace the 360 pad with a Controller S pad, so I did. It's like 2x better now. All directions work, and the pad is just superior overall now. It's a really simple mod too. 360 pad is going in my Controller S, since it's an old one anyway.

dag yo I played in a room with a few guys from SRK...

I had 2 wins,

and 12 losses...

I was half n half between Honda & Random Select tho, with Honda for the most part I can hold it down (until I get the rushdown!!) but on random it's like o crap!!

I'm hella burnt out on games now >_< I think I should watch a movie or something instead

Freakin' A stupid SF2THD just froze my PS3 when I was exiting the damn game. I had to literally turn off the power switch in the back! !@#$%
Can anyone give me pointers for executing throws in ST? i.e. landing throws and avoiding tick setups?
I'm not sure there's much to landing throws. Just know the range of your character's throws. Condition your opponent to block certain footsie strings, and then start throwing your opponent somewhere in between your pokes. Learn tick throw setups. Just mix it up in general.

Sometimes you can't avoid tick setups depending on the character and the situation. If it's a tick setup that involves the opponent walking up to you, learn to quickly recognize it and poke them before they can throw you. Learn to soften the throws when you get thrown if you can't avoid it.

Oh, I forgot to mention that if the tick setup is after a knockdown, learn to dragon punch - or the equivalent - the tick portion of the tick setup on wake up. Just don't get too trigger happy and predictable with it. They can wait for it and punish as well.

Thanks for the tips. Now how about when someone jumps in with an attack and doesn't link the jump in with the next move? Others always seem to throw me, even when I'm mashing/pianoing the throw buttons. Does the attacker have frame advantage and am I still in block stun?

Yeah, usually if someone is jumping in with a jumping short or jab, they're trying to setup a tick throw. Usually you have a small window (sometimes only one frame) when you go back to neutral from block stun to reverse. That's why it's hard to avoid tick throws a lot of the time. If you both are within the same throw range, you can throw your opponent to reverse. If your opponent has longer throw range than you, you have to reverse with a special move like a dragon punch. A proper tick throw is hard to get out of because of the tight timing for the reverse. If you can't get it, you'll either just have to practice it, or practice softening your throws.

sometimes you don't need reversal timing, but you do need to have something with throw invincibility to get out of it.

gg this morning

you should exploit more throwing opportunities with chun. she can get away with a lot of ambigious s.mp poking / throwing, and because of her walking speed she gets throws a lot more often. you can even get away with really stuff like stored super, fullscreen walk-forward and throw.

my tick setup with N.Ken is pretty simple, after a kneebash, j.lp, c.lp, and then either jab SRK, delayed jab SRK, or throw. regular jab SRK in case c.lp actually combos, delayed jab SRK to catch counter throws, and throw to repeat the loop.

even if you know it's coming, it's one hell of a guessing game.

HD remix is going okay, but the lag is really pissing me off. it's hard to time uppercuts when they skip the first 10 jumping frames. also i seem to be playing against only blanka, guile, chun, and deejay. for real. i thought everyone would be a shoto whore but i guess i'm the only ken player out there.

had to play sirlin and dsp today. raped =(

i actually like GGPO's netcode better.

and man i suck against blanka and deejay. i need some hints on how to counter them with ken.

Yeah I've had little luck against blanka's with Ken!

Almost no deejays on psn, its all Blanka's akuma's and like random chun/cammys

About the best I can do against Blanka with Ken is shoryuken the balls if it becomes obvious, and avoid tick setups.

Also maybe throw a jump in so they start electrocuting on wake up and just just straight up and hadoken their face.

Anything else is just trying to catch footsies.

Man I love Ken's FP shoryu, its so evil that you can knockdown someone throwing out a random roundhouse from like half the screen away and then set up a tick or crossup combo if possible (screw you guile, blanka, etc!)

I'll tell you Shoto players what stops me (Blanka player). Keep a distance. Sort of a Guile-esque strategy I know but it definitely works in Shoto vs. Blanka fights. It's really hard to get in close with Blanka (I found myself have to use hop) and all his specials can be countered easily. I hate Shotos and Cammy... ughhhhh.

Actually fighting Akuma's isn't that bad usually but Ken is horrible. And Ryu with that fake fireball? Recockulous.

I'll be getting my hands on this in a few weeks... :)

Oh and in case you haven't been reading up on KOF XII news...

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=343400
It'd be sweet if that KOF event was in Chicago. But it's not :(

I got my new system today. And it has a Saturn pad for obvious reasons. Seriously, this controller is perfect.

I should hook the system up. Maybe play a game.

that was pretty cool. I see myself maining daimon most. that chin and kensou looked really fun. I think I'll give them a try. oh and yay for an LA event. if i don't have a test or something that night, i'm all for going
And man, online... All I do is play against Ken players lol.
My thoughts exactly :)

Ken, Ryu, Akuma and Guile most of the time.

Other time it's at least a little interesting with people picking Honda, Boxer, Chun and Blanka.

Asian, did you get HD Remix?
Asian, did you get HD Remix?
Yup. I got it for PSN.

Mostly because I still have my Pelican Converter, my custom 'cade stick and my T5 stick. Both of which are wired for PSX/PS2.
