kain: S'fine, I'm still on the fence about Fanime or AX, to be honest. AX has always been a bit too far for me, but the one time I made an effort to get there, it was totally worth it. And I'm considering Fanime, because a friend of mine said that I could stay in his hotel free of charge, as long as I help him clean up in the Naruto GC tournament that's going to be there. Still a hard choice, though.

For Brawl, just make a limit to the people that can enter. Make it big enough so most can play, but small enough to allow for time and scheduling.

hmmm... yeah. I have to check if there's a limit on the number of submissions. I'm tempted to do a J.Talbain one with Shadow or something... who knows... sasquatch would be fun as well.

Is Fanime that convention that runs in San Jose?

I remember hearing that last year they would not allow console tourneys for any games that were represented in their game room. Kind of sucked since they brought cabinets of all the games most people would want to run tourneys in anyway.

Yeah, Fanime is in San Jose.

That sucks, if true. I haven't gone in a couple of years, so I don't know how the new people are running the game room tournaments, but that sounds like an awful way to run things.
i went to street fighter club when it was in LA, and it was filled with scrubs and a couple top people. i think they had like, 4 setups and like, 80+ people. it's not really worth it if you already have SF4 to play.
yeah i hear you on that but i'm hoping they have a final build of the game so we can see what features there are, play some console characters, and play on some final build te sticks.

i'm guessing alot of our top players won't be there either since alot are flying out to cr friday night.

i'm a scrub anyways. i'll be happy if they have some free sagat soda or something. :p

as far as fighting games at anime conventions i always imagine things like naruto, fate unlimited codes, melty blood, arcana heart, guilty gear, etc. to be popular.

I almost pulled the trigger on one of those TE sticks today..

But I really was not convinced that my store would even get any in. It requires a $50 deposit, anyway.

Oh well I have my stick, I just had about $200 in credit, and thought it might be a good collectors peice.
nice! destructoid is having a SFIV tourney in my area... genna try and go... also is SFIIHD the best game to train with to get good at SFIV?
Probably not- I read the recent issue of HardCore gamer (with references to our own MarkMan! Yea!) and it seems SF4 is VERY different from SF2. The focus attacks, revenge meter, super armor, and all that really change the pace of the game and reward taking risks and also give someone on their last leg really strong options to make a comeback.

So would SvC be a good training game for SFIV?

I'd say third strike may be the best training for SFIV, and even then its pretty damn different, especially concerning the speed of jumps!

Gravity is a much more influential force in IV.

There is, however, a set of mugen characters using the third strike sprites that incorporate, for the most part, the movesets and systems from IV to train/mess around with. So I'd think those are your best bet.

I'm debating my arcade stick options for this gen, I have the Hori Tekken 5 one currently, and i'm wondering if i should just get the AntCommando PS2 to PS3 converter (not paying what the Pelican one goes for), or upgrade to maybe the HRAP3 or even the SF Tournament Edition one.

Is the HRAP3 a huge upgrade over the Tekken 5 controller?

Also, figured I would add that i'm not really great at fighting games, but play a good amount of them and the Dualshock is really not cutting it for HD Remix to me (missing fireball and dragon punch motions like 30 percent of the time is no good). But I would get a good amount of use out of a new stick between HD Remix, SF4, SC4 and Tekken 6

I have to agree there, maybe a tiny smidge of ST. I know there are those of us here (mainly alum) who have actually played SFIV. Any other members of the FG alum attest to SFIV playing similar (though not exactly) like 3S/ST?

Playing the game trumps reading a magazine's description of it.

LOL....B:L you rule

I can't believe SFIV is just a month away. Thank god I have MVC2 to keep me busy.

Will I be wasting my time trying to learn that game for reals? Seems like the scene is pretty good for it and it would be cool to be decent at a game with a big scene.

It's worth it, but it's very, very, very, very hard to break into at this point. I've kinda come to grips with the fact that I'm as good as I'll ever get at the game. Philly has a really good Mahvel scene, so I had great competition at University Pinball. It's just so hard to break into because everyone is soooo good at it now.

Godspeed to you, though. It's a shame that there is no way for me to play you, because I could get you to a pretty competent level pretty fast. Just remember, one thing that you have to do in real play that you can't really practice for is make excellent use of your assists. That's one of the hardest things to get used to.

They say they're getting them as people reserve them, so if you preorder, your store will get one. As of right now, you have 7 minutes to go get it (if your stores close at 9.)

I know what you mean though, a pre-order doesn't feel like enough of a guarantee. So I pre-ordered 2 today at different stores x_x

refusedchaos and darthpuma friend invites from me should be waiting in your inbox for the PS3. Just saying.

Damn, I remember trying to get into Mahvel back in the day. My cousin taught me everything I know. He made me play him until I could beat him, and in 50 games, I only managed to beat him once. He was lucky that he worked at Pier 39, back when it used to be cool, cause he would get to play Mahvel like all day.
I was worried about everyone being really good.

There is like no fighting games scene I know of in Oklahoma.
You have a way, way better chance of getting into something that is modern with online play (SF2HD, SF4, SC4, T6.)

Not to crush dreams, but you honestly can't get to that "next level" in a game without playing real people.

I'm taking it easy, but in a few hours I gotta start photographing stuffed animals. don't ask.

Anyone have ideas of who to draw for the Darkstalkers art book?

My sackboy needs to know!

Er, well, while unoriginal, you'll undoubtedly get points for drawing Morrigan. The book may end up being saturated with her, but I can't really blame them for it.

Then again, maybe competition will be stiffer amongst Morrigan submissions because there will be so many entries.

I dunno. I do like Morrigan, though.

.
If you guys didnt reserve a TE stick by today.

Sorry.

:(
I couldn't

as for Darkstalkers artwork... ideas for obscure stuff? I know my Darkstalkers pretty well and like it more than most.

Today was the last day to preorder from GameCrazy B&M and GameStop B&M unfortunately :(

If you want to preorder from here. Go ahead and do so, but be aware they are charging a premium as they are being imported.

...Talbain and Sasquatch eating a basket lunch in the park. Obscure enough for ya?

Once it was gone on Amazon, I went and preordered at Gamestop on Saturday, sliding around in the snow all the way there and back.

Glad I did.

You have plenty to choose from. If you're going for obscure, I'd stay away from the obvious. Talbain, Morrigan, Felicia, Lord Raptor, Donovan, and Demitri are all pretty recognizable.

Sasquatch is pretty obscure.

Of course, you could always just go for B.B.Hood. You probably can't NOT have fun with her. You could take Mr. Beef's idea above and incorporate B.B.Hood by making it HER lunch basket that they've stolen and are eating.

GG's to Suko and Option in SFHD.

Sorry to Smallwind for not being able to join your room. I stepped out to call my girlfriend and when I got back your room was full :(

It's all good. Glad we got a couple games in. Sorry I couldn't stick around, I wanted to watch some movies tonight.

ggs suko, axc, and sw. Sorry if I seemed like I was running around annd not joining your guys' games promptly enough. I sure suck at this game. E. Honda just overwhelms my Bison. All I got is jab spam... Anyone got any Bison tips?
I was trying to invite you but someone kept mashing X so I couldn't do shit.
I really wish that they would let you invite people while you're a spectator, or something. That can get annoying quick when someone keeps confirming so you can't invite people.

Hmm too bad about the TE sticks being gone today. That's alright, though. I love my homemade sanwa stick.

Sorry I crashed your Super Turbo game on XBL. I think it was me that did it anyway. I just wanted to play!

I'm 122-120 on ST now. I'm content to keep it even win-loss in ranked.

But god damn to I hate fighting shotos as chun-li. She really has very little to get out of fireball traps/jump-in forward-cr.RH.

Best bet is to not get in those situations, but it's tough.

I feel much more confident in Sagat, Guile, and Blanka matches now though. Most XBL players that use them use shallow tactics as well. Vega is a whole different thing. Chun destroys him on the ground but it's basically Rock/Paper/Scissors when he jumps off the wall.

...........If I said that I got the "blinding Speed" achievement in HD Remix while using the Rock Band 2 drums, would anyone believe me?

Edit: Felicia might be a good choice for the contest, Rolento. You definitely need to submit something.

Fighting Chuns as Hawk is just annoying, cause all they do is jump. I approach, they jump. I jump, they jump. I sneeze because I'm sick, they jump. So I just started jumping towards them with jab sticking out, and it works awesome.

Although I hate her damn grab priority. I swear, I'm getting her in the jab>Hammer lock, then she busts out of it faster than anyone, and throws me.
