Does anybody know of a good guide for SFIV?

I mean, I hear you guys talking about all these terms and moves and stuff and I have no clue what they mean.

It's paused in the middle of a survival challenge and I haven't touched it for over 4-5 hours, sorry :/

I'm prone to leaving my games running for hours paused while I'm off doing other things :p
 
So I just lost to a guy who had a legit good akuma. I won't lie, I'm not very good at this game, but dude was a complete cock about winning. He started the round saying he was going to beat my scrub as because I'm just another fucking ken. Almost beat him the first round and he ended up winning because I got trigger happy and wiffed my ultra, and he talked more shit there. I was flustered as fuck the next round because of how big of an asshole this guy was, and it showed in my playing. After he won he just yelled that's what you get for playing ken cunt.

I don't understand why people have to be like that. It really ruins the game.

Played a guy who used Cammy and wasn't very good. His SFIV title he chose was "Legendary Loser." I was about to perfect him for the win then he disconnected so I though I should have some fun by saying messaging him:

"Legendary loser indeed!"

He responds with


Then I go "That's all it takes to take u down! weakkkk!"

He says:

Finding randoms really ruins you. Being able to rely on stupid tactics most of the time fucks you up when you fight someone legit. I wish SFIV was on GGPO, lol.

Played this weird-ass Blanka today, and all he did was fierce punch, so i beat him soundly. When I got done, I recieved a message saying that I was "a cheater, beating a 4-year old."

....

I messaged back, asking why a 4-year old is playing SFIV, and he responded "because he loves playing." Can't blame him, SFIV is fun as hell.

GGs axc. That Abel don't take no nonsense.
 
Man, I've been really lucky finding legits on PSN. I've had only about 3 ken and 2 akuma spammers. I've fought a really good balrog/boxer, guile and sakura. Me and my cammy have given me some really close games.

Asian, what tips can you give me on my ken? I was playing super shitty, but anything could help. I'm still tempted to learn a new character, just don't know who
 
That's actually one of my big problems. The only combos I ever remember to try for are target to f.dp and c.mk to f. tetsaksdjfaoidjfaodjf to f. dp.

I'm not an expert on Shotos, but things I noticed...

-Shouldn't be throwing out random Ultra, especially since Ken's recovery is really bad. Abel punishes Ken's Ultra pretty hard. A free meaty cr.FP with Abel opens up all sorts of opportunities.

-Zoning/Spacing. Use fireballs, Shoryu's, normals/pokes to keep some space in-between Ken and the other character. Depending on the character you can actually rushdown, but against Abel, if you control space and limit his options, you can completely shut down his mix-up game.

-Learn BnB combos with Ken.

-Learn Cross-up's with Ken.

-Building meter for EX is your friend.

-Learn what moves are/aren't safe with Ken, etc. etc.

I would say all of this can be applied to any character. Once you get down the basics, you can further your game after that. As I believe a couple posters mentioned here, not knowing the basics and wanting to jump right into FADC into Ultra won't do you any good.
 
Maybe one of you guys can help... Does anyone have any tips on fighting Seth? I just spent the last 40 minutes trying to beat him with Sakura. I came close to beating him twice only to be slaughtered by his ultra combo.
 
Suko: He actually seems much cheaper on easiest. I'm not sure I ever managed to beat him once with Ryu. I seem to be faring better with the game set on Medium.
 
it's about time I admit to myself that I suck at this game. I lost to everyone but the worst shotos tonight. Fei Long? More like Fei Wrong! I also lose at comedy.

Today was really weird, I ran into practically no shotos; just one Akuma and Gouken, but Gouken plays more like Rock in CvS2 so that's cool.

Played a wide range of characters from Cammy to Gief to Fei Long to even a Rufus :eek:

Needless to say, I lost a lot of them, but not by a lot, in fact, today was all about coming down to the wire...in every. single. round. That was so awesome.

My shining moment was taking half a bar from akuma while I had like 1% health left playing as Bison. He was fairly decent (to my standards) but he also liked spamming the air hadouken, so it made the head stomp easier to land...sometimes, cuz I don't got those mad skillz yet.
 
Distgx: He just teleporting around on me when I play on easiest. So make him a pain to even hit... and when I get close he just grabs me and throws me.

The akuma I played was not awesome, I could literally see him trying to do his ultra. He was pressing the buttons to slow, I was standing there just waiting to jump over him. I, of course, ended up doing so. :lol:

Everybody else was pretty good though, especially that guile.

Ah, when you see him teleport near you just dash away and then jump in. Unless he's literally doing it all the time. He has to pause to throw a sonic boom like his usual self eventually.

All the akumas I've played (all 3 of em) knew at least the basics, so they pulled out the Super/Ultras with no delay. Only one of them had the timing down and knew when to use em, so he got me a couple times because I was stupid and gave him easy openings :/


The Fei Long I played was pretty good, that was it.

The akuma players I played didn't realize I was just going to continously dash under their air hadoukens. I didn't take the round seriously, I was screwin' around with the guy, well, one in particular.
 
I HATE sakura and her shitty moves. She is impossible to beat Seth with. I've always hated her and she's a waste in sf4.

Seriously like an hour of unfair matches vs Seth tonight with no victory.
 
Seth is so easy its ridiculous. All you have to do is just block till he does his spinning kick move on you and sweep him after. It works for every single character in the game (although El Fuerte is the hardest to do it with since he is literally worthless).

so... say youre crossing over and kicking someone in the face with blanka and he changes direction, is it possible to still charge the horizontal roll? if so which way to i hold the joy stick? i know u can doit if u normally jump over and then charge on the jump, but for cross overs it gets all confusing.


how come in challenge mode when i do an EX vertical roll dan still blocks it? i thought EX moves break through blocks?

i honestly didnt start seriously playing until wednesday, but want to see if ive got a chance in CAG tournies :D

i played sagat on hardest and each match came out very very close, but CPU sagat beat me about 8 times and i won 3 times.
i whooped on bison on hardest, but got stomped facing a good bison online.

I'm not saying I have trouble with him as Blanka.. but when I use just about anyone else, I get crushed against a good Zangief. For my Blanka... the biggest problems are: Bison, Cammy, Rose, Balrog... uhh.. and other Blanka's I guess.

Yeah, if Gief gets in on anyone, it's trouble. To be honest, you have to play like a total pussy against him. :lol:

Add me for practice with the matchup. I still have trouble against good Blankas and Sagats.
 
After JEKKI tore me up today I went about 90% in ranked with Blanka. I fought one good Rose.. but I beat her twice. I fought one good Akuma, I beat him once, he beat me once. I fought one good Seth, I beat him once, he beat me once. It's cool how I can fight the same people again in ranked mode. Also, I didn't fight any Kens today at all. And only about 5 Ryus.

On the easiest settings, most characters just need to keep a middle distance spacing with him, doing pokes and sweeps. Depending on character I stick to long range kicks or punches. Obviously, too close and he does the SRK/SPD move or some other throw, too far and he spams sonic booms and teleports. I usually jump in on round start with high kick and low kick sweep and keep the pressure on from there. Back dash/BB helps if you start getting too close and he starts SRK'ing.
 
I think I've only seen one Seth online before, and I mopped the floor with him. I played my first Guile online though, and I nearly shit myself during round 3 when he whiffed his Ultra on me for the loss. That match was too fun.
