I guess lag/frame-related then? That's pretty interesting. If I was any good at all w/Abel, I'd try it in local vs or training mode.
After doing it at least twice, I'm going to keep trying it and see if it's possible to do again (consistently)

Abel's my main (besides Seth) so it's always nice to keep learning new bait tricks to get the Abel Rushdown/Avalanche going.
Both Abel and Seth.
Word. We'll have to play SFIV on PSN sometime.

Man... a 360 faceplate I actually want:

I think so... I hope so... don't know...?

also if people didn't see it already, Capcom is bringing more PS1 games to the PSN...

I just ask for Rival Schools even though I still have my copy...

on that note, I'm cleaning my room right now... found my old official Rival Schools Strat Guide. If anyone wants it I can trade or sell or whatever.
Since SNK is bringing it to America, does that mean it won't be out until 2011?
It'll probably have same release window as Japan since most XBLA stuff in Japan appears the same time NA stuff does, and vice-versa.

I still have to pick up KoF98UM but I've got enough stuff to play and things to keep me busy for a while...

Still cleaning my room... makes me realize I need to dust more often... been sneezing from all the dust >_

Hooray?

My mom doesn't want to take her quizzes for this college class she enrolled in (and hasn't; there's about 8-9 of them that she hasn't done), so she asked me to do them for her. The catch is that she's willing to pay for my plane trip to EVO.

This isn't a hard choice or anything, but I just get so bored with open-book quizzes for online-classes.

seth = retarded cause ure like the only seth ive ever faced LOL.

WOO i learned that.. standing block blocks that dam jumping long arms stuff!

i dont even know what seths combos are to properly block them!

dam my fuerte special failed LOL

was gonna choose boxer, but i want to sleep.

i need to unlock seth to face him so i know what to block.

i got two tournies to go to this week.
I'm really digging Championship Mode.
Championship mode sucks,

I won three tournaments before and they didnt give me my CPs cause "The game did not finish correctly" after I won.

I should be at like 1800 GPs right now lol.

Never ran into that problem with any of the wins I've got so far. I hope not to.

Now I can't get that burrito image out of my mind. Damn you HeavyD! Now I have to change it.

Hah, you are playing fuerte ever since our matches. Caught you!

YAY! Just ordered my first ever stick thanks to BB getting the SF4 TE's back in stock for PS3 (*knock on wood they actually ship). I've always sucked with sticks in arcades (too used to my Saturn d-pad) but I'm committed to learning this shit.

Any tips/suggestions? Also, do you guys set it in ur lap, or on a small table/tv tray? I'm thinking the latter.

Find a feel you like and use it. People generally hold the stick from the side with a few fingers on the ball. I play with a stick on my lap.

In Championship Mode, you're supposed to end up back at the main menu after each fight, right? I just want to make sure I'm doing it right. I was assuming it was some sort of tournament bracket at first, but I guess it's just a different way of doing a single online battle? Like it's not so much a "tournament" in the direct sense, but more like a context and framework for your individual online battles?

On another note I finally got around to playing the soundtrack CD that came with the SFIV CE yesterday. It was cool, I didn't realize it had the character themes from the online menu screens! I just figured it was the stage music, but if I had to have one or the other I'd prefer the character themes anyway. I do wish "Indestructible" was on there though. :ziplip:
Find a feel you like and use it. People generally hold the stick from the side with a few fingers on the ball. I play with a stick on my lap.
Agreed, it's all about the FEEL! I've never been a lap player but plenty of people do it, love it, and kick ass with it. I actually have this keyboard stand that works nicely with my dual stick setup... I can kinda just drop the hardware in there and adjust the stand's width to hold it all nice n' tight. It's a pretty neat setup! When I'm not using that I just put the sticks on a bedstand I've got, which makes it a perfect height if I'm sitting in a folding chair.

just grasp the stick whatever way is comfortable to u. there is no real technique! just keep playing with it, itll feel awkward at first and ull want to run back to the pad to do ur fireballs, but after id say a few days to a week ull think why the hell wasnt i learning stick before?

honestly the most comfortable is on a table that is above your elbows so that your wrist doesnt get carpal tunnel like mine is cause its on my lap all day Lol, but on the lap is pretty good.

Maybe for charge characters, give it about a month for circle characters.

I must have gone 25-0 in championship mode yesterday... it was sweet my girl was there for some of it.. before I uh.. took a break heh. To be fair, I was still in G3 until my last fight when I ranked up to G2. I assume that the reason I did so well was cuz all the good players have already gotten past G2. Still, it was cool to be on such a long win streak.

once the patch hit, all the good players started playing again jus coz it was new.

once they get into G2, they stopped playing.

Zmonkay, there are really no tips for getting used to a stick. There is no right way to hold the button or the stick, as everyone finds different ways comfortable.

I know it sounds mean to say but either you get used to it or you don't. I have friends that have all grown up in arcades so using a stick is like second nature and pad is never an option (I am like that). I also have friends that are the opposite. They are alright on stick, but are so used to Pad they can pull of their normal play style on Pad.

That kind of question shows up on the SRK forums too. Lots of people bought into the TE bonanza thinking that magically it would be an easy transition from Pad to Stick. They'll start blaming parts of the stick instead of their own mechanics.

Just keep practicing with it, obviously go for what feels best for you and don't get discouraged :)

Hopefully I can get used to pad->stick once mine arrives. It's pretty much a sink-or-swim option, since there's no pads allowed at EVO this year.

Oh and Busta? You ARE supposed to go back to the main menu after each Champ Mode fight.
Oh and Busta? You ARE supposed to go back to the main menu after each Champ Mode fight.
ahhhh thanks, good to have that clarified. I went in expecting more of a straightforward tournament, so I wasn't sure what to make of it!

Thanks for all the advice folks. I wouldn't have dropped 150+ on it if I wasn't gonna put in the effort (er, this time, at least *glances at guitar, cobalt flux dance pad, Steel Battalion...).

My lack of ability with a stick has been an embarrassment for too long, especially playing friends in arcades. I'm not amazing, but I'm pretty decent at most fighters using a pad, but even my best games become cluster fucks once I hit the arcades :( Can't wait to learn BlazBlue with it though!
What's their reasoning behind no pads at EVO?
There are no wireless controllers allowed at Evo. And since all the games are being played on PS3, the only option is a stick.

PS3!!! Year of PS3 just keeps getting better. Future's so bright, you have to wear shades.

Definitely the ease of using a stick on PS3 due to converters or Cthulu is the reason PS3 is the system of choice. Honestly, I like my HRAP EX, but I could've saved so much money just by sticking to PS3 only for fighters.

I can talk about this issue since I'm a recent pad > stick convert. Here's my history:
I never really used sticks.. ever. I played arcade games once in a while as a kid but was never really good. I'm only 23 so I caught the tail end of the big SF2 craze. So, I always played fighting games on pad.. mostly Genesis when I was young, then PSX/PS2 when I was older. I only bought my Xbox 360 last year and got VF5 right away. I immediately discovered that I hated the dpad and kinda shelfed the game. Then when SF2 Remix was announced I went into ultra-hype mode, since SF2 was always my favorite fighting game until I discovered Tekken 3.. I got SF2 Remix and learned to play on the analog stick. I also pre-ordered the TE stick in January.. but only got it in April. So, when SFIV came out I used the analog stick for that too until I managed to find an EX2. It took me about a week or so to get used to it. Keep in mind, I play charge characters mostly.. when I use shotos I can only get their supers/ultras about 50% of the time.. but this isn't the sticks fault. Even with the analog stick on the Xbox controller I could still only get them 50%. I use the TE stick now and am used to it.. even though the buttons are a little too sensitive for my retard-button-mashing-style.

Long story short, was it worth it? Yes. I now play charge characters a lot better than I ever could on pad. It takes a while to get used to it, but once you do I doubt you'll want to go back.

I use an analog stick on my 360 at times when the d-pad pisses me off (always).

I still mark it as the worst design choice I've seen for a first party controller in a long ass time

I got DBZ: Infinite Worlds coming in from Goozex. Anyone play this? Is it as bad as the reviews say? I enjoyed Budokai 3 so I thought I might like this too.

I've played it and the reviews are horse shit. If you loved the combat in budokai 3, then you'll love this too.
Man I still can't comprehend how anyone could use an analog stick for fighting games. Much respect for those who do!!!
I use the PS3 D-Pad normally, but I use the analog stick when I mess with Zangief (who is ridiculous fun).

That's what I thought. I figured they were just being hard on it since it wasn't anything new. I always perfered the orginal Budokai series over Tenkaichi. I just never found it fun.

Ditto, I'm not a fan of the tenkaichi series either, and yea, they mainly ripped on it because they said it wasn't anything new.

All of the characters got new moves and the combat itself got new features. I'd say that's pretty damned new.

wait, seriously? I couldn't STAND tenkaichi or however the fuck it was spelled, but Budokai was hella fun. might have to look into this after all (I too ignored it due to shit reviews)
