General Gaming Thread #11 loves Girls' Generation!

it sounds like Super Paper Metroid. The first person parts sound tacked on. Why not just make a straight up 2.5D Metroid? I guess that would be too awesome.

and this whole "Samus talking" thing sounds bad. 'cause that means she'll be talking for the rest of the series :whistle2:/
There's no excuse.

Super Paper Metroid, I like the sound of that.
Super Metroid is one of the golden games of generations past, like symphony of the night -- with a slight graphic upgrade, the game would probably still hold up today. It's just great design... but I can understand if you're not a fan of that genre of game...

I like the sound of Super Paper Metroid... but still don't like the way Other M seems to be shaping up...

Combat in Other M is as simple as rattling off shots of your standard weapon with the 1 button. Samus will automatically fire at anything that's even relatively close to being in front of her. This makes most combat feel almost automatic, though there's no way to know how much trickier later enemies will get.

WOOO!!! Bioshock 2 shipped from Gamefly today, so I should be gaming on that around Tuesday, maybe even Saturday! I was hoping for Heavy Rain instead, but at least they didn't make something else seem like it was going to come then send me something that was at the end of my list like last time.
I should be way more excited for Other M...Team Ninja + Metroid. alas, no Itagaki. Hayashitroid total
If team ninja were making Metroid meets Ninja Gaiden, I'd be blowing my load... the hope was it would be some sort of bastard love child of the two -- decent visuals and a tight control scheme to help you play a game where the default difficulty is "hard as nails". It still sounds like a bastard offspring of the two franchises in a way, but only if the mother was drinking heavily, doing speedballs, and huffing paint while pregnant with the kid. :(
I liked when games had like no story except the intro and ending.
So you prefer something ala SMB to the original Ninja Gaiden games or RPGs in general?

I had edited out, 'Ninja Gaiden style cutscenes' from my original post because it was one of the very few games to have that sort of thing. They blew my mind back then.

But yeah, like the Metroids and Marios, both Super and not. And pretty much every game in the 16 bit era and earlier.

Hmmm. RPGs being the exception to the rule.

PM me an email address and I'll send it to ya. it's not too huge, just 31 pics.

edit: argh, when I got myself banned from gaf, I didn't think about losing the B/S/T thread :bomb: it's so much better than the trade forums here.

Ordered Darksiders about 2 weeks ago from Gamestop.com, and still have not gotten it. They wont do anything for 21 days because it was sent USPS. I am never ordering from gamestop.com again.

Awesome, Bioshock 2 is great. It made me remember how fantastic the universe really was.

Didn't you already get banned from gaf (for MW2 airport?)? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Good, I'm hoping it'll do the same for me.. I really loved Bioshock 1 and the other day I played a little at a friends' place and I instantly got reminded of how much I loved it.

Is the second game pretty much the same in terms of enemy AI and stuff? I didn't really have any trouble with the first game, so if the second is the same I think I'll use my same rough character build with the plasmids.

It's easier, if anything. There are only a few (2) new enemy types and one of them acts almost exactly like a Bouncer. Though now there are more weapon upgrades than there are upgrade stations for whatever silly reason.

Wasn't that the case in the first game too?

I think there were exactly enough in the first to upgrade everything. This was probably because the pipe wrench could not be upgraded and the drill can be.

I just finished Heavy Rain, and I am beyond happy that I bought it. Definitely my GOTY this year. I played every chance I got before and after work, and Im going to go back to get some trophies that I missed, but I'd reccommend this game to anyone with a PS3.

yeah, and then I had another account that I forgot about making. I started posting under it and some mod noticed the IP addresses, I guess.

just played Lost in Nightmares. meh. nothing mind blowing. Fun way to kill an hour.

I'm okay with that, I will probably have at least two weapons that I don't like using anyways. Drill looks to be one of them...

Critter crunch is pretty damn good, I like the little puzzle levels more than adventure, though.
I loved Bioshock 2, but the drill was a bit disappointing. Though I still think I'm going to try a drill only run soon...
I, too, thought the drill sucked.

Warp ammo is meh. Even on the lower difficulty it never felt like it was doing much damage.
Seeing as how it's my main portable gaming device, I'd say no.
Get a new one?

Warp Ammo or Reave are the only logical choices for advanced training. Maybe dominate...
What you need is squad warp ammo. It's golden except for enemies with shields.

I actually thought barrier was the best choice for me. Being a vanguard and charging in all the time it saved my ass a number of times. Reave being my second choice.
Is there like a joke I'm missing? Do they not make memory sticks anymore or something?
I always bought mine straight through a reputable online retailer like buy or frys or amazon. too many fake ones out there. Even people selling used ones may send you a fake that they didn't even know was fake.

edit: 4gb sticks are only $18.89 on amazon. damn, these things drop in price by the month, it seems.

I can't resist gamesharing. I'm getting in on a Street Fighter one and next week I'll be jumping into a Puzzle Fighter one. It's freaking awesome.

I wish 360 did full gamesharing like PS3.
I actually thought barrier was the best choice for me. Being a vanguard and charging in all the time it saved my ass a number of times. Reave being my second choice.
I thought about barrier -- but in the end opted for reave. I didn't know about warp ammo until long after my insanity run was complete. :( my take, for a solider, is that warp ammo is #1, with reave following... reave acts like a version of warp for shepard... since I always had miranda with me, I always had 2 warp-ish attacks to get rid of barrier and armor. the AoE didn't really help too much though, maybe the concentrated one is better. I found out about squad warp ammo one day when I did the random N7 mission where you rescue the Quarian from a pack of dog things (forget their name) -- I couldn't finish the mission until I took grunt and jack and used squad warp ammo. they just decimated everything...
wow. SSF2THDR on PSN doesn't have trophy support? wtf crapcom?
Thats backbone.
Thats backbone.
it's some SR2 bullshit is what it is. i'm pretty sure it came out long after trophies were introduced. MvC2 has them... how hard is it to patch it in, you lazy fuckers?
Well, the Hammerhead DLC is a disappointment. At least it will make the wait easier.
It's disappointing? How?
It's disappointing? How?
It's just the normal DarkNessBear bitching. He'll play it, hate it at first, then it'll be the greatest thing ever by the time he's finished.

I'll withhold judgment on it, and play it for sure.

But I am a bit let down that it just appears to be 5 vehicle combat sections. I really want some DLC that's just adding more of the same gameplay and ideally heavy on story. i.e. something like the Shivering Isles for Oblivion.

But of course this is just a free DLC (if you bought ME2 new anyway) so I can't complain or expect that. Hopefully there will be some paid DLC down the road that's more substantial and story driven etc.
