The problem with MGS4 is that only about 25% of it actual metal gear stealth gameplay. There are like 5 actual sneaking maps...then the rest is run n' gun + mech action + shitty cut scene. Adding more to the ending would be a serious slap in the face--it was already an hour long and fairly bitter affair after getting cheated in Chapters 3,4, and 5.

They need to get back to the basics. MGS3 is the highpoint of stealth games, but the few sneaking maps in MGS4 are fucking amazing.
You know, I totally agree with this too. It became way too much of a janky shooter shoehorned into an AMAZING stealth game engine. The fact that the last half of the game is barely playable is another huge annoyance. Kojima can create these impressive scenes, but won't ever let you play them? The frist couple chapters have some really impressive, memorable moments, and some great stealth sections, but it just falls apart too quickly to even consider it for GOTY material.

I suppose Ninja Dog is now a big fanboy too, because he doesn't get on his knees for Metal Gear Solid and Kojima too, right?

I watched the GoW2 video review as well.

I don't remember Marcus' voice sounding so stupid. Other than that, looks about the same
aka boring
as the first aside from the horde multiplayer mode which does sound fun.

I'll take cheesy faux-macho over femboy raiden and Hayter's overly-gruff Old Snake, really. At least it admits it's not to be taken seriously.

Those new gamercards with the Avatars look shite, I hope we can still use the old ones.

The more I seen this new dashboard, the more I think they've made it worse.

These next few weeks are going to be crazy--I just got fallout 3 in the mail, I have LBP incoming (maybe even this afternoon), Resistance2 in the shipping queue, Gears2 might take a while though 'cause BB.com is slow as shit (but at least I get an RC tank out of it :whee:) and then WoTLK on the 13th...two days before I head to LA to visit the in-laws! At least I will have a lot of gaming to do when I get back next month. :D

The guide is 100 times better and problems with the guide taking a while to pop up sometimes, and the guide even freezing your box are gone. Everything is really slick and really smooth.

I know, it was a big waste. The worst was chapter 4. It was like "yes, ohmygod, holy fuck, I can't believe this, holy fuck ohmygod, game of the forever...wait...THERE'S NO ONE HERE. KOOOOJIIIIIMMAAAAAA"

Fighting those little S&M robots with all the arms was the definition of NOT fun.

An interesting juxtaposition with the awesome, awesome location.

That's right, no one did.

Dang, can't wait for the NXE upgrade.
I want to install my games, and the store interface is so damn clunky.

Well it's always been the assumption that whoknows and other crazies operate under on this thread.

My opinion just doesn't matter because I just don't get KOJIMA

HE'S SO DEEP

HE LIKES LETTING YOU SEE BOOBS

If I'm anti anything I'm anti Japanophile kids who think Japan is so deep and cool and unique.

shooting people point blank in the head with the sniper rifle in fallout is funny, for some reason.

I also discovered yesterday that you can shoot the limbs off dead bodies, then pick them up and make them float in front of you in an eerie fashion. Love those Oblivion Engine holdovers.

I guess I should wait until I use it before I form an opinion.

TBH I'll be soured on the whole thing if I have to use the avatar instead of the gamerpic I paid for, but I probably won't have to.

pretty sure you can still use gamerpics? the GAF thread on it has people still showing gamepics in their gamercard things.

There's nothing with wrong with appreciating another culture.

And the best way to fight the fanbois is to ignore them.

the GGT is like half OTTers now. seems to be for the better. There was something about the pre-linkin massacre ggt that wasn't quite right. I thought chacrana would be back by now though.

Fallout 3 is the biggest surprise of the year for me. So godly on the PC. besides gears 2, I won't be playing anything else for a long while.

Fable 2, otoh, started out really fun, then I just lost interest in all the gameplay mechanics.

I heard crackdown can't be installed. That's the one disc based game I own right now :\ I think I'll update on Friday after I get Gears 2, just to make sure there aren't any Day 1 patches.

ahahahhahaha, this is coming from someone who took time off from work to play Resistance 2.
Indeed, you start installing stuff and the 20gB is useless.

I'm hoping to pick up a 120 on clearance at Target.
Ooo--is it confirmed be on clearance already, or is that just wishful thinking? I need to do that myself regardless, though.
Ooo--is it confirmed be on clearance already, or is that just wishful thinking? I need to do that myself regardless, though.
Not wishful thinking, some people have seen it go on clearance starting at $125 I think, but as usual YMMV.

Ok thanks. I should've checked the Target Clearance thread first. :p

$125 is still too steep for me, but maybe it'll drop again by the time I get up to LA. Is that 160GB standalone drive available yet? That would help push the price down, IMO.

I think he meant the multi is boring. I know some didn't care for that part of Gears 1, like jer or even mojimbo. (or mojimbo just sucked at it)

Single player and co-op look great.
I really like playing with Ackbar, when we're free.

Resistance 2 multi looks boring too, but the co-op mode with it's MMO style tactics is a different game.
Ooo--is it confirmed be on clearance already, or is that just wishful thinking? I need to do that myself regardless, though.
It's started on it's downward clearance slope. Currently at $129 I think.
I think he meant the multi is boring.
Nah, hes talking about the single player. I think his comment the other day was "its the same thing over and over again". I think its funny because hes all about R2 (same as any other generic FPS), but Gears is repetitive and boring. :dunce:

With that said, I'll be picking up R2 tomorrow. :]

Eh, that's all shooting games then.
They pretty much are the same thing over and over again, but some make it fun enough to keep you playing.

I like the almost-visceral feel of Gears.

I won't be picking up either game until December, but I'm getting Gears 2 first.
R2 maybe early next year.

---

I'm getting ME almost purely for the time trial mode, which I found more fun that I expected.
The story looks stupid.

It doesn't matter what he means, he's wrong. Resistance 2 looks like a snooze fest with terrible graphics, and bland art.

What I played of Resistance 2 was ok. Not quite a snooze fest, but there was definitely something understated or lacking about the game, even with the large enemies, that I'm unable to articulate.

With Gears, the graphics engine has some "pop" so that everything seems more vivid and intense and I like the way your avatar has some heft/weight to it when running or slamming into cover. I'm still getting R2 though, as I like FPS and the large scale multiplayer/multiplayer co-op campaign modes.

Multiplayer is the reason I'm buying GoW2. It should be sweet.

I would like to upgrade my 360 HDD, but I don't really play it enough. No 120 GB drives on clearance for me. If I could get one for $60 I'd do it.

Prediction: The first weekend with GoW2 will kill my 360.

I just remember people saying you sucked after you were complaning about 'hit detection' and 'broken netcode'.

That and all the jokes about you only being good at games called CoD.

No, he posted before that he thought the single player was boring as it was just moving from cover to cover and shooting waves of enemies.

To each their own I guess.

But it did have janky netcode.

I just didn't play that game because of the way the ranked games were setup so I wasn't really kickass at it. I remember Rybread picking it up really late like the next spring on account of his schoolwork causing him to miss it at launch and being amazed that he knocked out the 10,000 kills in like 2 months. I did the calculations in my head and it would've taken me like a whole year to do that with the way I played it.

The only game I'll admit to being godawful at is umm...Sega Superstar Tennis.

That's still pretty insane. How long do you think it'll take you guys to get the Gears 2 one, assuming you don't grind the ____ out of it in single player?
