I need to get back on Gears 2 after dinner and some relaxation. Because I've had such a hard day.

I woke up at 3 PM, one hour earlier than yesterday. I need to get that lost hour of sleep back. :)
 
Yeah, today has kind of sucked for me too. Slaving away on data analysis, interpretation and putting together a Powerpoint for a confernce next week all morning/afternoon. I'm usually not so last minute, but the past few weeks were crazy with a cold, and preparing for and traveling for job interviews.

Now reading and commenting on a scholarly article for a colleague, and then I'm hopefully done for the day. Will take a break, watch Desperate Housewives and 9 and then play a bit of Gears 2 before bed. Probably just work on my solo campaign, a bit fried for Horde or MP.
 
Looks like I've managed to get one of those sheets of free rentals from Hollywood Video (1 per month for 12 months).

I'm going to see if getting into renting gets me more used to this non-ownership gaming future that we're clearly headed towards :|
Only big studio titles of course.

Odds of Hollywood video staying in business for another 12 months though? :lol:
 
I've got no beef with Gears. One of these days I'll get around to playing the PC version of the first one. It looks like the cover system has had an innovative effect on the genre. However, Mark Rein is the biggest douche in the industry.

Is that good enough?

Oh I know. Something about the drab browns and greys of next-gen shooters being a power limitation. Surely you wouldnt have so many different companies colluding to make everything look the same. Its largely above my pay grade though.

Value to you or value to them? Once a game gets to be below a certain trade in value it's YMMV whether they take it in or not (sports games are of course the biggest victim of this). I'm not the most knowledgeable about this subject though.

Just finished Gears 2. Very satisfied with the campaign. Haven't messed with the multiplayer yet though.

Gears 2 remedies that to a good extent. Lots of outdoor sequences, a lot more color underground (glowing mushrooms etc).

It's still often has the drab look, but that's just a design choice to get the post apocalyptic setting across. But it definitely has a lot more color and variety in environments than the first one.

Ratchet and Clank might be ok , Sneak King probably not. Especially since most places only sell it for like $1 anyway.

Acts 2 and 5 are good examples of more colorful areas , Act 3 however is not.
 
Just beat Gears 2 on hardcore. The brumak sequence was awesome, the Reaver Dragoon section sucked though. Epic kinda fails at any gameplay mechanic besides gun battles...which is not a problem :)

Hasn't been a problem for a while now...you should keep on top of the things you hate so your opinions aren't outdated. also Super Paper Mario was shit.
 
I'm kind of disappointed in Resistance 2. I liked the first one much better. The second one feels too much like Halo, which is a bad thing because Halo sucks. Glad I didn't buy it.
 
There should be a ninja gaiden MMO on the Ninja Gaiden Black engine, where everybody is a fully equipped/upgraded Ryu. Deathmatches 24 hours a day.

That's probably the only online game I'd care about these days.

I want a big open world game like Oblivion that plays like Ninja Gaiden or DMC. . . :drool:

Gears 2 is so much fun online. :)

The setting looks interesting, but otherwise meh IMO.

Gears has the gore factor, so unless this has it as well and is a good game I don't think it will be able to even kind of compete with gears.

The environment looks like the final dungeon in a JRPG. Well, except the floor.

So this is sposed to be a Gears killer? Has a ______ killer ever actually succeeded? Killzone didn't kill Halo. Crash didn't kill Mario.

Hey Gwen, haven't seen you for a while.

Played a lot of games this weekend, made some good progress on Dead Space, which is awesome. Found Dogmeat in Fallout 3, went back to some games I've not played in a while (PGR4 and Stuntman Ignition) and tried some Graw 2 co-op.

Banjo Kazooie this week, looking forward to playing it for a few minutes then putting it on the pile o'shame till I've finished Dead Space. :)

What's the synopsis of The Day the Earth Froze? I don't remember it. Also, I unboxed that 20th anniversary set the other day. It's awesome. I wasn't expecting the quality of the tin or the artwork on the slip cases. I still haven't opened the "Crow" side of the tin yet.

And to keep us on track ... I love Gears 2 so much. I liked the first Gears. It was decent. But there's just something about 2 that I love. I can't quite place what the difference is.

It's a swedish fantasy film about this chick getting kidnapped by a witch and these two dudes going to rescue her. They have to build a thing called a Sampo for the witch. The highlights of the episode is the short "Here comes the circus" and one of the host bits which is Gypsy's one woman show "Gypsy Rose Me", they were both classic. I though it was a very decent ep, good riffing on the movie.

Yeah the boxed set is very nice, the only slight problem I have with it is the box the DVD's are in is difficult to get out of the tin. The tin looks great on my shelf though and the crow figure is nice.

I'll probably pick up Gears 2 next week, a lot of people on my friends list seemed to be playing the Horde mode, anyone in the GGT try it ?
