Speaking of Nintendo platforms, does anyone here have Korg DS-10? I'm seriously considering picking it up, since I want a synthesiser to mess around with and Electroplankton's kind of limited in that regard.
Been wanting to get the Korg, but it's not an easy find.
I don't have it, but I did try it out and it was cool. Much more fully-featured than I would've expected. But it's one of those things where you'll need to read the manual for sure. Because it's not simple.
Good to hear; I've used a real analog synthesizer before, and they are very hard to use effectively if you don't have a manual, so I was kind of hoping for some of that same experience from Korg DS-10. That it's fully-featured also sounds good. Do you remember what the sound quality was like?

Much better than I expected from the DS. I mean, it won't replace a real synthesizer, but it definitely doesn't sound tinny or DS-y either.

Sorry, I'm a bit against the notion that X-Play is fail. They are a decent show.

The hosts at least, are genuine people who actually care about videogames, regardless of how they are perceived through the TV set. I'm not speaking on a fanboy end either, I know both Adam and Morgan and keep in contact with them, they're both good people who have a strong knowledge of the industry.

lol.

But yea, the show does make them look bad at times lol.

i think i'm gonna order Korg DS-10 with xmas gift certs. It's only on sale at amazon, right? I've been messing around with a manual-less copy and it's a lot of fun.

I'm sure they are, but it really doesn't come through the show. It's probably the producer/writer/marketers' faults that the show is the way it is though--G4 fucks up everything.

i bet they do know alot but the show makes them look like complete retards

Oh man, it's so weird, glancing at my busted TV and then looking back at this 24" monitor that shines so radiantly in the moonlight.

Guess I can play Persona 4 on my monitor.

But yeah, I'm nearly positive that it's the panel itself that's broken. And if that's the case, I suppose that getting it repaired would basically be about the cost of buying a whole new TV...

did it shows signs of dying? My LCD does weird shit every once in awhile and freaks me out...but only when its hooked up to my pc (which makes things twice as worrying.) when my crt died, it kinda popped, made an electric crackle noise, then let out a weird smell.

Well, my TV didn't make a cyber-fart, but uhm...

actually, it didn't show any signs of dying, except for this bullshit red tint. The weirdest part is that there's like... a tiny circle on the screen that's fine, and that circle is centered around a stuck pixel that's been on the thing for a few months. It's like it got e-cancer, and it just spread like Ebola and AIDS in Africa.

that sucks. I bet the guy in your avatar would know how to fix it! he would rub it with his magic vending machine panties and it would come back to life.

part of me wants my lcd to die so I can upgrade, but otoh, that's just the hyper-materialism talking.

Yeah, the dude in my avatar probably built the TV, and the TV's self destruct mechanism that I'm dealing with right now.

I hope this is an expensive thing to fix so I can justify getting a bigger TV finally. I got a 26" since I had the TV at school, but I kinda changed my mind on that one, and it's woefully undersized now. That, and I can probably ask my parents to help me pay for part of a new TV as a Christmas present. T'would be nice.
42" or bust.

My next tv has to be a 47" or 52".
This. Probably a 42" to start. Definitely 1080p, so I can fully integrate my PC into my setup.

I'm planning to go with a 37", just because I can get a good one for cheaper, and my price range isn't limitless. That, and I sit fairly close to the TV. 1080p f'sho though.

It drives me fucking nuts how it can be difficult to read text on a 26" from time to time.

I have it. Messed around with it for a while, it has limitations but its fun. I didn't really need the manual, 10 minutes of poking around shows you all you need to see, basically.
Been wanting to get the Korg, but it's not an easy find.
Huh? It was $25 on Amazon on BF, readily available for hours on end.

Is The Last Remnant worth $27.99 that GS is charging?

Seems to be devoid of magic flutes and explosive barrels.

Last Remnant is pretty damn good.

Also - any ideas why I'm not showing any rank on super turbo leaderboards? I've got about 50 wins, 50 losses, and I'm ranked at the bottom of my friends, below people like rolento who have only played several matches.

Is it even possible to see the difference between 1080p and 720p on a 37" set, even if you're sitting up close? The only reason I ask is because I'm not sure the premium for 1080p on a TV that size is worth the perceived benefits. Seems like it's a better value to just invest in a 40" or larger set for those prices.

Sorry, just my unsolicited opinion. >_

last remnant is $35 used - 10% edge - 10% newsletter coupon (I think) = 28-ish
I notice the difference on a set that size. Maybe not so much with movies, but with games, yes. But I play PC, and I love high resolution.

I think most people can't tell the difference because they don't care or know enough and/or they sit far enough away where they can't see the difference.

My friend has a 37" `080p TV and the difference between 720p and 1080p is quite noticeable.
Yeah, the difference is clearer in some things than others. Computer use is definitely one of those things where the difference is clear.

Viewing distance is the key. Unless you are right up close (as most PC users are), you generally don't need 1080p on a TV less than 42".

I have a 24" HD monitor at my desk for work and I think it's about as large I can stand given how close I sit to it. I can't imagine spending any significant amount of time in front of 37" monitor, even for gaming.

I know Chac does a lot of PC gaming, though, so maybe 37" is right for him, but last I checked, the price difference between [good] 37 and 40" sets were in that "on-the-fence" range.

When I play PC games on the TV though, it's usually at my usual viewing distance (like... 5-10 feet)... and stuff that you can play with a gamepad.

Yeah Outrun!!

Outrun FTW!!

Yea, definitely distance is the key. But at most I'm 5 feet from my TV and 2.25 feet from my PC monitor. So even on a smaller set, I'd see the difference.

So since I"m always fairly close, I want that 1080p, especially for PC use.

We're in the process of remodeling our office/loft into a full bedroom which will contain a guest bed along with our mini-office. As part of the renovation, we're having a "media nook" built-in. I have a 26" 720p Olevia that can be used there, but eventually, I'd like to put a more up-to-date HDTV as there are no HDMI inputs on that TV. The nook can support up to a 40" set, wall-mounted. Will be nice if I ever stick another PS3 in there (for Blu-Ray). That's a while down the road though...
