XII did I believe. In the video it showed them selecting stuff out of menus in the battle scenes. Though of course the menus were in Japanese so I couldn't tell if it was old style menu combat or something like KOTOR where you're just pausing and setting up commands etc.

I've just been spoiled by western RPGS like Oblivion and Mass Effect. I much prefer real time combat to any form of turn based combat.
Its not going to be real time combat, but rather a fast paced turnbased system with elements from Chrono Trigger and what seems to be xenosaga 3.

no, XII was not menu-driven in a conventional sense. sure, you select things from menus, but battle is still mostly automated.

i think mass effect and oblivion have combat that doesn't quite live up to shovelware action-game standards. those games are clunky messes.

I meant that I thought FFXII did away with menus, but I wasn't sure about XIII from the video

The combat isn't great. But it beats sitting there and watching the computer control all the battle actions. That just bores the hell out of me. I'd rather have clunky combat I'm in control of than pick commands from menus or set up gambits and just watch.

I'll probably pass on FFXIII most likely. Just don't dig JRPG battle systems, character design and stories. Struggling with getting into TWENY now as the characters, dialog and music are so fucking godawful. And the combat is a convoluted mess. I've taken to just ignoring the top screen.
the art style is starting to bore me IMHO. I can see their direction but it's definitly not something I'm attracted to. Though FFXIII Versus and the PSP one are the same universe, I think their styles are a bit more cohesive. and I like them so that helps.
I get what you mean. The first trailer for FFXIII was truly drool worthy. It seems the more they reveal, the less I'm impressed. Some of the costume designs in this trailer looked straight out of FFX-2, and not in a good way obviously. I guess what I'm trying to say is tone the colors down a bit, SE!

I'm still impressed, just not nearly as impressed. I'm probably just being overcritical though, given that this is a main FF entry title. Versus on the other hand is more conservative and modern in its style, and honestly that kind of bores me. I look for JRPGs to give me a fantasy world, not emulation of reality.

I really loved FFXII's style, boring ass game, but the art style was never tacky or boring.

The art style definitely screams "Star Wars Episode 1" imo. Or maybe the city in Episode 2. XII was more Ep.1. I'm really sick of the whole ultra-stylish peasants thing. The group in the trailer is clearly supposed to be some citizen resistance, yet they're decked out in these super stylish clothes with $1000 haircuts. They're probably dressed nicer and are more well manicured than the people they're rebelling against.

but whatever, the game will be fun. The gameplay in those trailers made it look very fast paced. and despite my problem with the style, it's still very very pretty.

I just get a kick out of how the starfox fighter planes are in the game
What were you looking to buy when you found that? :whistle2:s
I'm gonna guess those helmets with the beer can holders and hoses.
I still think the best version of FFXIII is going to be the PSP version. call it a hunch.
I disagree, Unless they really overhaul Crisis Core's battle system it will be average at best.
What the fuck indeed?

I don't remember since the pic was from a while back, but I feel like it must've been Cabela's Big Game Hunter or something.

PSP game is a mon hun rip-off.
Boring.

I completely forgot about that.

I should think before I type...

I enjoyed XII system. A lot of the thought goes into gambit setup. As long as XIII is NOT turn based then this gamer will definitely be interested.

Edit: Damnit. Went back a page. Fast turned based. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I hate slow-paced jrpgs. But it looks so pretty and fluid it seems that it won't be much of a problem for me.
The way you're supposed to play FFXII is to create a good gambit, then micro-manage with menu driven stuff.

XIII has menus but its supposed to be more fast paced like Crisis Core.

I'll let you know how it is after I play the $70 DEMO GODDAMNIT FLOODDS
Sweet. I look forward to your $70 impressions! :D

I need to re-buy FFXII one of these days--didn't even fire it up before selling it off again--but I'm real hype for FFXIII. I try to avoid the "must buy" before actually trying a game out, but this one looks great and appears to have the elements I tend to enjoy in these kinds of games. :p

I wouldn't mind if the battles are similar to Crisis Core--that game is prob my fave PSP title so far. But it's FF, so turn-based would've been fine for me too.

I'm thinking getting one of the SF4 Fightpads for the PS3. Just for playing HD Remix and the games in Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection. But it seems that Amazon isn't taking any more orders for the Chun Li pad... Guess I'll have to go else were if I want it.

A fellow Chun-Li lover? Don't stop until you get that sexy pad.

Glad I pre-ordered one! It was in my gold box and I couldn't resist.

I managed to pre-order a TE stick for 360 from the capcom store (10% off = wow), so I will probably cancel my amazon pre-order next week.

I kind of want one of the pads for arcade games (and maybe then I'd pick up HD Remix), but I don't like the SF art on them. So I'll hold out in hopes that mad catz puts out a plain pad later on.
If XIII plays like Crisis Core, that's awesome, because CC's battle system is ace.
This.
Although I could do without random leveling.
If XIII plays like Crisis Core, that's awesome, because CC's battle system is ace.
Truth. The only problem I had with it was that you could never speed up your sword swings. But you grew so obscenely powerful near the end that it didn't really matter.

$79 demo :\ ordered at ncsx

I can probably make my money back or only lose a few bucks on it after I'm done with the demo though. I guess watching Advent Core in all its craptacular high definition goodness counts for something.

but man, the first and only time I watched Advent Children, my parents came home while the ending battle with Cloud and Sephiroth was happening (OHHH SPOILERS, ALSO AERIS DIES), and they started making fun of it. Like, not even cracking a joke, but straight up "what are those two women fighting over" and all kinds of jokes about androgyny. I was completely owned by my parents

Seems to the digital tv bill they were trying to pass (to push the date back further) got denied is going to happen next month as usual. http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/28/digital-tv-transition-delays-fails-to-pass-in-house/

OT: FFXIII looks to be interesting. I"ll definitely buy it as I have enjoyed every final fantasy in one way or another.

Been playing a lot of psp and got remotejoylite setup finally after fighting with it on 64 vista. Monster Hunter Freedom 2 is amusing on a 20" monitor lol.

I could have also done without the random summoning as well. Honestly it always seemed to happen when it wasn't needed. I also I hated that I couldn't have a few shortcuts set for different skills or items.

They added twenty mins of new footage.
At least they didnt say why are those two bald space marines making out.

Androgyny>Space Marine.

I'll be honest and say that's awesome. I still think Freedom is the most detailed game on the system. not the best graphics, but best attention to detail.
it's our weekly "argue about FF" segment of the GGT.
where's TMK then?

I'm still not sure if Sera is really a chick. :/

If I say all the characters in FF are pretty, it's just saying the truth right?
FF is no longer a Sony exclusive so he doesn't have to defend it to the death anymore.
I know he loves it to death though. All it needs is a singstar mode and he's set.
I'm honestly curious to see if he still loves it so much and defends it so much now that it's multiplatform.

new footage is cool.

I wish we could nuke the planet of all space marines and androgynous heroes.

Or make a Smash Bros. style game with all of them. What would the roster be like?

Cloud
Sephiroth
Anyone from a Tales game
anyone from an RPG TMK likes
Master Chief with his helmet off (definitely the baldest, spaciest marine ever...it would be this game's Zero Suit Samus.)

Rage. This just serves to remind my that my buddy, who has craptacular cablevision down near Stamford, CT, has just about every fucking channel in HD.

Yet, my near-Albany, NY TWC has like 20 fucking channels. :bomb:

Also, NES.
A fellow Chun-Li lover? Don't stop until you get that sexy pad.
Always been a fan. I was actually a little sad when they took her off the US boxart.
where's TMK then?
Actually, I rarely read the GGT these days since I'm busy with other stuff. The only time I come across the GGT is if:
-I do a post search on someone and catch something said about me or something I definitely gotta reply to.
-Someone tells me to check the GGT about something that went on. I'll ask, just how many times have you see me post in the GGT within the last few months?

I just spend my time mostly updating game night threads (in the PS3 forum). My reason for rarely posting in the GGT and not talking to many GGT members all that much, only a few know the reason. I'm also pretty busy and just don't have time to keep up with the GGT.
I'm honestly curious to see if he still loves it so much and defends it so much now that it's multiplatform.
You are so wrong. I do love FFXIII and it's my most wanted game for sure. It's coming to PS3, so I will buy the PS3 version. However, it's tough for me to say whether I want that or Versus XIII more (I want XIII more because I like a little turn-based, but I like Versus XIII since it reminds me of VII and I LOVE Nomura made games).

Also, read my blog and tell me what game it says I want the very most:
http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=6023

If you want to see me in a big time FF argument, I could bring up my old posts at Cloudchaser, PSXXxtreme, RPGFan (under my old username and older forum), RPG Elite (while up), etc.

That's about the number of full time, actual cable(non-premium) HD channels I got with Comcast.

That and the amount of compression used by Comcast on the HD feeds made it easy enough to say 'fuck it', and cancel the ~$80 cable package I had months ago.

Food Network HD isn't worth that

:whistle2:/

Like searching for someone to mention him on CAG.

For someone who claims to not read the GGTs, you sure replied to RR's response quickly.
