Edit: I've never played a Xenosaga game, but I just got Star ocean First Departure for the PSP. I'm only at the very beginning, but this game seems pretty damn good.
I have a copy of Star Ocean: First Departure still shrink wrapped in my room. I've been meaning to play it... but I haven't had a good reason to bring my PSP anywhere. I guess I'll just have to play it sitting in my room.
Xenogears and Xenosaga are some of the shittiest, most pretentious, animu-trash, weeaboo bait games ever. That music sounds like a Sega Genesis dying.
This actually made me laugh out loud. Made me choke on my coffee. :) And yeah, agreed on that music.

Let's play some HD Remix later.

Yeah. It is a series I have heard of in the past and when I heard they were making a game for the 360 as well as porting the originals to the PSP, I figured I give it a shot. If I enjoy this, I'll have to go get second evolution.
Just didn't do it for me. Played through 7 or 8 of the bosses and quit.

I like games with story, characters, side quests, leveling up, finding good items etc. The bosses in such games are the parts that make me groan.

So it was clearly just not my cup of tea. :D

That's probably why I dig Oblivion so much. Since it's all questing and there's not really bosses other than the end of the main game.
Wow, I don't often agree with your gaming preferences dmaul (since I dislike FPS and prefer JPRGs to Western RPGs), but I agree with what you are saying here. I started in on SOTC when it first came out and didn't even get as far as you. I moved on to something else. I'm also not a big "boss battle" fan and prefer the other stuff in most games. The boss battles are usually something I feel I have to endure to get to the next stage. Since SOTC has no other stuff to get to I didn't enjoy it as much as others. Granted - awesome graphics for the PS2, unique concept, etc, etc, but it just didn't gel for me.
combat in PoP isn't good, but it gets over with quickly at least. The exploration and graphics are excellent. A good laid back easy game. Not very deep, but good.

Going back to PoP for a minute. The combat in the game is as fun as you want it to be. If you get into it you notice that it becomes more about parrying, timing, and making fluid combos that look great. Aside from boss battles, you can avoid most encounters if you dislike the combat. I really like collecting the light seeds and just getting from point A to point B because that part of the game is really fun.
I agree with these comments. In fact, I spent 2 hours last night mostly trying to collect the light seeds while sort of just putting off the last few battles I need to do. Unlike in many games the collection aspect here is fun because it is a challenge to figure out how to get those seeds you see way up on the cliff there, or find the ones hidden on a ledge underneath you, or whatever. I decided I'd go for the 1001 light seeds trophy just 'cause it is pretty fun to do so (I'm at about 850 now with 1 land left to clear and 1 mini-boss left to go).

I don't mind the combat, either, as it is infrequent but a nice change of pace from the exploration. However, I've been trying to get that combo master trophy and after printing the list of combos and trying to rack up a few on my final fight with the Concubine last night I may just pass on that. I can never tell if I'm doing the combo listed, or just two shorter ones so I could see putting a lot of time into that and never getting the trophy. Of course I'll have to give up on the platinum trophy anyway as I have already blown the "less than 100 saves by Elika" and "under 12 hours" ones (unless I feel like playing again to blow through the game). Hell, there have been some times when I've used 10-15 saves just trying to get to a certain spot as I can't always judge whether I can jump there or not (or whether I need to coop jump, or coop jump, then wall run, then coop jump again, etc...). I guess if you play it through quickly once you've already beaten it, it would be much easier (plus you can skip the harder to get seeds).

Prince of persia defense force!!

I wish I had money. Saving discretionary income till sf4, retro game challenge, and fear2.

I want the sf4 faceplate and fightpad too!

Played a bit more TWENY. Finished day 7 and the 2nd 1st day after that. Was disappointed as I was expecting a decent twist or something after day 7, but nothing of note.

I'm not ready to give up and throw it back up on Goozex yet, but definitely going to stop playing it as my main game. Time to get back to Oblivion and then on to Fable II, so TWENY will be relegated to playing when someone is using my TV in living room or if I just want to play something for 30 minutes before sleeping etc.

There's something about the game that keeps me wanting to play, but there's so MUCH I don't like. Convoluted controls, touch screen controls, trying to manage two battles simultaneiously, terrible characters, dialogue and music etc. But the gameplay is still somewhat fun somehow so I keep playing...

Cool to read. I want to get both the light seed achievement and the save achievement, but this is impossible and I like to do challenging achievements. And your post just made me realize that I'm probably going to miss the 12 hour achievement. I need to stop dicking around and get to it.

Well obviously I must be a part of the Prince of Persia defense force, I like the game ;)

I've seen the Sagat faceplate and well . . . It is Sagat, yuck. They need to make a Chun-Li, C. Viper, and Cammy faceplate.
Prince of persia defense force!!
Is that what zewone was lolling about? I haven't read back that far - maybe the game was being put down and it seems like we're defending it? I dunno - I just saw some timely discusson of a game I've been playing a lot this last week and thought I'd chime in.

I have to say, though, that after the first day I played it I really didn't like it and almost took it in to BBV right then and there (for a profit compared to what I spent for it at GS). I still plan to do that, but I have enjoyed it much more since then and will keep playing it through this weekend at least. I mean, I'm so close at this point I at least have to finish it (and I'd like to find all those light seeds though that will be pretty tough considering that in some areas I have just 1 or 2 missing and I don't see them anywhere).

Both of these comments =.

Had to bring my son home early this morning due to a fever. The wife is busy tomorrow, so looks like it's him and me at home.

Hopefully he feels better...maybe we can sneak in some Wii time or something.

Immersive games... GO!

I'm writing an analysis on immersion in games. I'm thinking of using Persona 4 since I have more experience with it than other games (Fallout 3) that I found immersive. I'd love your guys' opinions on what you think immersion is and how games create immersion. My prof put out a podcast where he gave examples of immersion using Halo series; the evolution of enemies through the series and some other garbage as well. It was painful to listen to.

Can anyone with remotejoylite experience assist me? I'm trying to get a 360 controller to set up but I can't get anything to register in the Joy config section. There is lots of blank spots also which aren't in a lot of peoples youtube set up videos. Where triangle, cross, square, circle should be is completely blank.

It's driving me crazy as it seems so easy lol. If anyone could be help I'd be grateful!

Finally got back to Oblivion. Finished one side quest then started Shivering Isles. Got the first two achievements, trying to knock out some side quests I picked up before getting back to the main quest.

Nice to have a no world to explore and some new enemies to fight. The fetch quest sidequests are a bit stale though. Especially since one required a "sweet roll" which required a trip to gamefaqs since it gave you no guidance on where to find it. Turned out to be in one house in Skingrad by in Cyrodil--so that was kind of lame.

But that's one of my few gripes with the game, a few quests are near impossible without a faq/guide unless you just happen to stumble across the item. The vast majority are straight forward and show you where to go on the map, but there are a few like that where you just get no clues whatsoever. But easy enough to look it up, so it's a nitpick.

As I said before I probably have the most nitpicks with this game out of any game I've loved this much and spent this much time on! Just over 70 hours now.

all you fricks, check out my animation... worked on it over the past month... >_< alot of hard worked hours. it's private since it's going up in gallerys so consider yourself lucky to see it. note it's a bit more choppy than it's suppose to be since it's synched with music but this was the best I could upload it at.

It was cute. I really liked the music.

Brave. Cute. Music was cool and reminded me of those Touhou shooting games for some reason. I think the pig should've been the one who ate the black knight, which would give him a reason to turn ginormous. Then the ending could've had a huge pig foot smooshing everyone a la Monty Python.

If you wanted it to be surreal, then have some even more ginormous Chinese guy take nibble of the mutated pig foot and then hurl all over the screen.

Yeah sorry, I know--make my own video. >_
Skate 2: More Rough Around the Edges!
it's actually damn good... but only when you're completely done with career... career mode can suck dick, but everything else rocks.
Freeskate is occupying all my time.
career mode is a little more fun than free skate to be honest if you don't do missions since the ahll of meat adds a whole other layer of fun. plus the spot challenges are great.

You had me at frick ... I have to admit, that was actually pretty damned good.

Speaking of good, is Skate 2 really that much better? I didn't get that impression from the demo.

I need to pick up skate 2, but I have to wait to see if I'll have proper funding for my SFIV wallet-raping bonanza first.

I mean, I could buy it and all that stuff too, but I would likely have no way to eat for like 2 weeks if I wanted to pay rent on time.
Aw, I'm back to waiting for goozex to ship ToS again. I don't like goozex. :(
That reminds me that I still need to get rid of ToS 2...

I haven't done any challenges (hit me up zew), but the multiplayer is really fun. I love going from spot to spot trying to get the high score. Oh, and the loading is much more tolerable with the install.

Hmm...Prince of Persia Epilogue DLC is coming out February 26th. Looks interesting. I'm a bit peeved that it comes with the free on PC prototype skins, though. I definitely want a length on it before I buy it, though. The Fable 2 content was extremely short for the price
but Cheet-Ur's Crypt made me buy it
, so if it's like...an hour for $10, no sale. If it's $5 for an hour, maybe. Given the sales of PoP, it might be good of them to price it cheap.

It's really not. I can't control the fun -- while I like the premise of the combo system and getting the 14-hit combo cheese was cool, when the enemies (read: bosses, I guess) force me to open with Y or B or A as a parry because of the altered state, that starts to limit my combo choices.

I guess I'm at the end of Chrono Trigger, unless I decide to do some sidequests to finish learning all my techs. Overall, pretty much as good as I remember it.

Viva Pinata 2 still the best game on 360 or PS3.

SO DAMN GOOD.
fuck YOU HEMLOCK WEEDS!
Took half an hour to fix that out, I started to panic.

Destroyed my beautiful beach! I was about to make baby crabs and turtles! :bomb::bomb::bomb:
I'm still eagerly awaiting a skateboarding game that improves upon Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3. That was 2001, people.
Easily my favorite too.
I played it online with a usb network adapter since the official ones weren't even out.

Got pwned by kids doing infinite grinds. :(
I did one trick, and knocked him down after time expired so he had a score of zero.

See I couldn't afford a modem at the time for my PS2, but I always thought it'd be so cool to play that game online. Neversoft really nailed that game.

Let me just say how much I hate devs throwing out DLC to games after you are done with them and rid of them.
Throw it all in, dont cut it so you can rape us once again.
I hate DLC once again.

It was really cool. Blew my mind that I was skating around with real people, showing off and such.

Nice of them to throw that support in even though the official modems weren't released.
My first online console game.

I wonder if it still works, I still have the game.
I tried Amplitude some months ago and still saw people playing it online.

I didn't see any pinatas in FO3 makkey mak.

jk about VP2 of course, but I really do love it, Rare still has it

Been playing P3 FES Journey in the guest room past few days since the wife has been working late nights in the room with the main TV. It's pretty cool.

I will try getting back to Fallout 3 tonight.
Where are the reviews from other US places?
Kinda weird that all I see is Maxim, I mean IGN.
Embargo for USA is up on Monday. Europe was today.
I guess IGN broke it, so more may show up earlier than that.
