GGT!

All this chat about GTAIV has reminded me I'm one of those who never beat the game. I didn't even unlock the last island. But I did like the driving physics, but not-so-much the motorcycles. They were okay, but I feel that they could have been better.

Well, going back to watching Last Exile. That animation is DOPE.

The motorcycles are a huge pain to drive in GTA4. I also never finished GTAIV, I stopped after the bank mission (you know what one I'm talking about, if you've done it) because it was just an exercise in frustration, although I did eventually beat it. I am being told that that was the hardest mission in the game though.
Does anybody have any impressions of Tecmo Bowl on DS?
If you like Tecmo Bowl, you'll like Kickoff. Just don't expect anything too revolutionary. Great deal for $10. Well worth it.

That was a great show. A lot of people weren't big on the ending, but I thought it fit pretty well.

Samurai 7 on Blu Ray is out soon! So excited, I pre-ordered pretty much right when it was announced. Since I sold my original boxset for $50, it'll only cost about $25.

Gonna start Top Spin 2 today, because I miss tennis games. I got it for $5 too, which was exciting.

"Lady Gaga"? Jesus christ, Rei no Otaku, how is it possible that you, the guy with the worst taste on CAG, are able to continuously lower and lower the bar?
so convince me to get or not to get the PSN download of Burnout Paradise. I'm not a huge fan of racing games, with Wipeout being the only racer I've ever really liked... if that helps.
Pros of disc: saleable, negotiable price

Pros of PSN: you're gonna spend 2 hours downloading updates if you buy the disc anyway, so this cuts out the "going to the store or waiting for someone to ship" middleman.

Finished GTAIV last night. I'm in the 10% club; and, by "10% club," I mean, "among those people who finished GTAIV who aren't really a known percentage, but some knucklehead decided to apply an arbitrary number to a category of people they know nothing about" club.

But the former fits on a trophy better, I s'pose.

Oh, and GTAIV's story isn't that good. It has depth and promise, but it *really* exposes how sandbox gameplay and a compelling narrative don't work well.

I played straight through the main missions without doing any side stuffs, so
I didn't give a shit when Kate died, because she was just a character I saw in cutscenes and never dated.

Does anyone know if amazon.co.uk will ship to the states?

I am trying to get a copy of Maken Shao but cant find anyone that is willing to ship over here.
Didn't we already go over this?

I agree with both of these XD
I'm pretty sure they do if I recall. People on avs imported blurays from the uk using amazon.co.uk.
Looking now it seems amazon marketplace wont ship to the states.

Yes. I bought UK Planet Earth on Blu Ray from amazon.co.uk.

I think it depends on the seller though, as to whether or not they'll ship stateside.

Why must Phantasy Star Portable be $40? It's damned fun. I wonder if PSU was anything like this one, as the Portable demo gave me all kinds of PSO nostalgia.

PSP (heh) is exactly like PSU, except the portable version is more streamlined when it comes to traveling around when you aren't in missions. I thought that was an amazing idea, since I got tired of trying to find a particular store in PSU, and walking around a huge several story mall area tended to get time-consuming.

The whip weapons are amazing, I must say. I remember when they were first announced, I couldn't stop making fun of the way they looked. After using them though, I almost don't want to use anything else.

Gameplay-wise, it's exactly the same. As Beef said, the travel parts and some other things are streamlined for handhled constraints. In that respect, it may actually be better than PSU, depending on your preference. :p

I'm leaning more towards the DS version at this point, but I'm sure I'll pick up the PSP version whenever it hits that magic $20 or less price.

What're the differences between the DS/PSP versions? I haven't really looked into it that much, aside from one gameplay video of the DS version (which didn't look too shabby).

I think the PSP and DS versions will differ greatly since they are both based off different gameplay systems. They are also both completely different anyway

I'll be getting both so I don't mind.

also, the $39.99 price seems steep, but seeing how I paid that much for Monster Hunter F2, and have gotten over 175 hours on it, it's a good price.

Gunswords! Also, they are adding a new blunt weapon type, shields. Naturally, it's a different engine due to the hardware limitations, but still 3D. Story seems to be a "prequel" type so the characters have a younger appearance by a different artist. Of course, they are also going to take advantage of the DS touch screens with Pictochat communication.

Got in a bit of gaming this afternoon.

My buddy and I finished off the RE5 demo, finally got buy the chainsaw guy on our first try today after dying 10+ times last night. I hate the way the did the local split screen. I'd rather it not keep a 16x9 ration (ala gears) rather than have small, staggered 16x9 screens. But the game is pretty fun with a friend once you get used to the controls, and I imagine we'll grab it and play through in co-op.

Also tried the Halo Wars demo. I'm not an RTS fan, but it seemed like it would be enjoyable for fans of the genre (downloaded it for my friend/roommate who loves RTS).

Finally played an hour or so of The Shivering Isles and got two or three achievements. Think I'm just going to push through the main story and stop worrying about doing the random sidequests. 75 hours in and I've loved it, but it's time to beat it, get all the achievements and move on to something else.

Last Exile was a pretty good show. Pacing was kinda off at points. The second half of the show gets really good but feels really rushed near the end.

Phantasy Star Portable is a continuation/sequel of Phantasy Star Universe for the PSP.

Phantasy Star Zero is a prequel to Phantasy Star Online.

Considering that both Universe and Online aren't all too different if you like one you'll probably like the other. Whether you like one more than the other mostly comes down to finer gameplay differences between the two series , as well as which "world" you like better.

I'm sure my explanation of the differences between the two didn't help you one bit either.
Tried the Killzone 2 demo. Couldn't stand the controls, and the guns feel weak. It's really pretty, though.
You're just a Sony hater, clearly biased.

Red Dead Revolver is pretty cool, but I need to return the xbox one and get the PS2 one. 360 BC for this game is pretty bad.

Did you try the alternate controls? There's one that's pretty close to the most recent CoD games... I used that and it was alright.

I don't see what the problems are with the controls. I guess if maybe people don't like using R1 to shoot, but other than that, what's the issue?

I didn't, but even apart from the controls, the demo just wasn't fun. Shooting people wasn't satisfying at all, and while yeah, I liked the cover system, that's not really enough to carry the game.

rly? i though the magnum and the single shot rifle that your get in the wherehouse weree pretty awesome, i was bustin some domeshots with those
Just beat Rez for the first time.

I still need to beat Rez, I should be beaten for not doing so already.

At least you tried it. :applause:

EDIT: Who the hell would prefer using the R2 button on the PS3 controllers for shooters? The triggers are god awful.
oh and did you try the knife too? its pretty ba that it auto swipes it twice when you pull it out so you can get that quick defense kill
I didn't try the knife, but I tried probably all of the other weapons. What you should be getting from shooting an enemy is the sensation that you're really fuckin' that dude up. Like, you want the bullet to just rip through them, or to at least make them recoil. I'm not saying it has to be ultraviolent, but it's gotta give you a bit more of a feeling of being a badass.

The knife does sound interesting, and I appreciate the game's attempts to throw in some smaller details that do add to the experience, but I just feel like the core mechanics are pretty ghetto.
