I'm a total hypocrite. I told myself I wasn't gonna go for the shy girls, then I totally started mackin' on Yukiko. Still, I find her way more appealing than Rise or Chie.
Every time I read that someone is playing P4 I feel a little bad about myself for not playing it for the last 2 weeks...
Don't worry about it. I haven't played the game since the day I got it...which was sometime around release.

I'm the opposite. I told myself that I'd probably go for Yukiko but now I'm leaning towards Chie or Rise...

It's a bit of a bummer that you can only date one girl this time around.
I hate their pronunciation of Ree-say. I just call her "Rise," because I'm fuckin lazy.
Im just gonna call you eef because fuck saying mr. beef.

Still, if they had put a mark over the E, then I would've went along. But the instruction book and the game fuckin' tricked me.

i don't like the pronunciation of inaba.

isn't it i-NA-ba?

that's why i hate japanese names in american games
i don't want my yukikos and dojimas, give me amys and smiths.

It would be retared to Americanize a game that has such an obvious setting outside of the US. It would feel less genuine.

They did this with Persona 1 and it fucked up the translation big time. The first time my characters went to the Shinto shrine I was scratching my head thinking, "WTF is this place doing in the middle of an American city, we don't have that stuff here?"

But it's not an American game.

My only complaint is the lack of a Japanese voice option. That being said, the voice acting is pretty good overall so I can't complain too much.
Kids that go inside a television and meet a giant talking stuffed bear to kill supernatural beings?
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!
I think I played 6 hours of Persona 4 today...wow.
Not enough.
I feel asleep with the controller in my hand once or twice after 10 hour play sessions.

Ya Persona 1 could be pretty awkard at times. The Japanese stuff also gives the game a really unique setting that can peak some peoples interest. My fiancee watches me play this game a lot and its largly because of the unique music and setting, she actually even commented that the game didnt seem as Japanese as Persona 3 which was a let down for her ;) her little brother is the same way.

Mark or Masao in Persona 1. This gets me every time.

American

Japanese

But this can slide since "Mark dances seductively"

you know what was weird?
the french guy in P3 who would say random japanese. although everyone spoke english and the setting was in japan.

i was so confused.

actually i prefer NO voice acting in my games. maybe that would solve the voice acting problem because i hate it when things are pronounced wrong.

---

also had a weird problem with P4, game locks randomly when saving. i don't know if i like that.

That sucks Kain...

So has everyone here always played RPGs? Personally, I pretty much ignored RPGs in the PS2 generation besides FFX and a little bit of FFXII. Final Fantasy IX was the last RPG I played when I was really into them. It took until I played Persona 3 FES to really get me back into RPGs. Now I have a list of about a dozen I want to go back and play. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Every days great at your Junes.

I've always liked RPGs. Ever since the NES days. It's probably the genre I've liked the longest, with fighting games being a close second.

i been playing RPGs since i was a wee kid. it took me a year to beat the first dragon warrior. now it takes me 2-3 hours using emulator speedup.

i think the psx era is when my motivation started to dwindle, there just wasn't good stuff out and i feel like i gotta learn a new battle system every time i play a new one, which will usually have an aspect of brokenness to it.

i guess that's why i prefer tried-and-true systems with a bit of refinement, like DQ, or american rpgs which have gameplay systems that seem more tested.

also i started to see cliches manifest themselves over and over and it just got worse in the ps2 generation. it's why i stopped watching anime. so it's tough for me to really invest the time in an rpg. it also doesn't help that i prefer more competitive games nowadays.

p3 became a bit of a chore to finish, but i'm really enjoying p4. again, i like mysteries and the story kinda grabbed me. the gameplay is way more refined and much smoother in every way, i don't get BS deaths as much as i did in p3, the dungeon is integrated with the story, the s.links intertwine with each other... etc.

Mudo...Hama...ahhh! :)

I got into RPGs when I saw my cousin playing Chrono Trigger back in 95... the game was CRAZY!!

still is, best game ever.

before that the only RPG I played was I think Faxanadu for NES?? I didnt understand it and prolly didnt like it, but most likely due to the fact that I was hella dumb as a kid. Or maybe the game does indeed suck.

I didnt like Bionic Commando as a kid either, I didnt understand how u cant jump, and if you try shooting your gun the whole stage goes into alarm mode and kills you.

so at least in 95 I was smart enough to read and think

I didn't get into video game RPGs until Final Fantasy VIII. I tried to like VII but it just isn't my cup of tea.

Before that, I was into pen and paper RPGs like Rifts.

Probably about 90% of all the games I've ever played have been RPGs. The only other genre that I really play often are platformers.

I just got The World Ends with You over the weekend, and I just finished it earlier today. It was zetta awesome, or perhaps yotta awesome. Did this and FF4 drop to $30, or did I just happen to get lucky and get it on sale? I hope Chrono Trigger drops to $30 after not too long.
How does World Ends play like, combat-wise? I'm still on the fence, but if it plays well, then I might bite.
one hand uses the stylus to destroy your touchscreen, the other hand mashes the d-pad

if you don't have a screenguard, get one because your touchscreen will look like crap afterwards

it's a decent system but lends itself to too much mashing and overpowered pins

edit: oh yeah
hama and mudo are such bs, luckily i never got hit by it in p4 and auto-resurrect after battles helps me save money on revival beads

speaking of saving money
i don't think i've ever bought armor in p4 yet

It's extremely unique, and take awhile to get used to, but it's good.

Use control the main character on the touch screen and use pins to do various attacks. Each pin has a different method of attack such as tap the screen or slash the enemy, etc.
Your partner is on the top screen and you use the direction buttons to have them attack. And, you have a combo map that you have to sorta navigate, but they're simple and you can get by just hitting right over and over. Your partner actually will go on autopilot too, so you can pretty much ignore it. I ignored it until almost the end of the game.
There's a lot more subtleties, but that's a pretty good overview.

I've always liked RPG's but my interest has waned over the past few years because of having limited gaming time. The last RPG I finished was Shadow Hearts:Convent, which I loved! Although I have sunk 40+ hours into Fallout 3 until my ps3 died. I still have a ps2 I think I will start up Persona 3 or finish Yakuza 1 or start FFXII. I could also start No More Heroes on the Wii. Any suggestions? Also Should I play Persona 3 fes instead of Persona 3?

I would finish Yakuza first, and you cant go wrong with the other games

Seems weird, but strangely enough, right up my alley. :whistle2:k

you know what though? rise + teddie are way better than fuuka.

especially rise
especially when she squeals

also p4 is getting to be one of the few games where i prefer the male supporting cast over the female ones. when personality wins over boobs and ass then damn, really. that's terrible. rise might do it for me though.

Really? I thought Yosuke was annoying, and I don't really like Kanji. Teddie is my favourite, Chie and Naoto are close though.

I need more time to form an opinion on which I like better, but I do know I like P4's (normal) battle music much more. It's so catchy!

So far, I like the music, battle system, and characters in P4 more than P3. Yosuke especially, since (at least to me) he doesn't seem NEARLY as clingy as Junpei did.

I like them both! theyre different, I dont really feel one is better than another.

too bad, I havent played P4 since monday  I've been playing a bit of DQIV here and there tho.

great game! I'm on chapter 5 now! I've only recruited the first group of doods with me tho, and am at like 13 hours

I always thought P3's characters were too serious. Junpei was the only one to lighten up the mood, while everyone else was too busy acting like 40 year olds.

I'm getting near the end of P4 and I see what you guys are talking about be depressed. I don't want the game to end.

Afterward I was thinking about replaying DDS. It's the only SMT game where I didn't do all the extra stuff.

fuck. I'm really close to the end of P4 and I'm burning out. This happens to me on almost every RPG I play. I get to the final dungeon and I just can't be bothered to finish it. Most recently with Chrono Trigger and FFIII on the DS.
