I wonder why? Maybe cause it was released in 2 parts.
It was up to double jump I guess and the figure it isnt worth it. Many other Atlus games didnt get a guide.

I remember Doublejump was deciding wither or not to make a guide for Digital Saga. But they decided not to do it, since the contents wasn't enough. Most of high risk rpg such as Altus was published by Prima. Most of them net a pretty penny consider it's low volume to begin with such as Brigandine, Breath of Fire, Thousand Arms, Suikoden, Valkyrie Profile, Star Ocean, Skies of Arcadia, Persona 2 ,and other assorted guides. Their rpg writer division is pretty good, despite the many negative comments regarding their other guides.
So how long is Suikoden 1? I was contemplating nabbing it on PSN, but I never played any of the series before, so I don't know what I'm getting into.
I take longer then most people to beat RPGs and I can finish that game with everything in 20 hours. If you play through without a guide trying to find every charcter MAYBE you can squeeze 40 hours out of it. But I bet most people are 15-25 hours.
I would finish Yakuza first, and you cant go wrong with the other games
Thanks! I forgot how much fun I had when playing Yakuza. I'm about 1/2 way done now. What should I play next? FFXII, ZOE2, Xenosaga 3, Persona 3 Yakuza 2?

Well Persona 3 is by far the best game of those. ZoE should be your choice if you want more action based, Persona 3 if you want a good grind and a lot of interaction with other characters and FFXII should be what you play if you want something focused more on game play the story(trying to be fair to XII but I cant think of a reason to recommend it).

i liked ff12's battle system because it was all about strategy and how you can set it and forget it, because RPGs have such simple systems nowadays...

I started playing Fable 2 a few nights ago and I gotta say, I like it. Besides Mass Effect I tend to dislike western RPGs. I hated Fallout 3, and I really tried to like it. After getting burned I decided not to give Fable 2 a shot. My bro gave me his copy and found myself enjoying it instantly. Once I play it more I may hit you guys up for some questions.

I think I read something that they felt the game wasn't complex enough to justify a guide. I can sorta see that. It's extremely linear, no fusion, and no secrets. You just have to learn the battle system to win.

otoh, they made one for Genji and Castlevania...maybe Sony and Konami offered them big bucks or something.

I think they make guides for games that they think will sell well. Castlevania will always do well and Genji was supposed to be the next great Dynasty Warriors type game.

Yakuza 2.
Light 1 2on Fire.
Worship ZOE2 and the greatest game mechanic ever, Zero Shift.

Oh yeah. I finished Persona 4 last night, for real this time. Got the good ending. I definitely feel accomplished. What a great game. I need to find time to go back and play Persona 3 now since I only got about 40 hours into that.

I'm beginning to get hyped for Star Ocean 4... I have to say the Xbox 360 is currently winning my favor with its $199 price tag and its JRPGs.

I just hope it's good.

Edit: Sorry if I implied that SO games arn't good cause that wasn't my intention. It's more like lately the Square-Enix RPG's on 360 haven't been A titles if you know what I'm trying to say.

Well I happen to think Star Ocean is very good series based on Second Story and Till the End of Time. I'm not naive though and I recognize TtEoT's flaws and negative popular reception.

I don't think it will be a hit, I do think it will satisfy fans of the series.

Ok, Eternal Sonata rant:

This game is a lot of fun, when it isn't broken. There really needs to be a pause between your players turn. They give you a certain amount of time for your turn, but sometimes jamming on triangle will let you squeeze in a special move even though your time is up. Other times, jamming on triangle will do nothing, and instead cause the next character's turn to be completely wasted, because you hit triangle at the beginning. So the character stands there, attacking nothing :wall:

Second, I wasted about a half hour of my life losing to some asshole named "Tuba." It's nice that the game allows you to block to reduce your damage, but it isn't nice that missing a single block against this one boss means he can hit you several times unblocked, almost certainly killing you.

Third, yes the light and dark battle system is cool, but it's not cool when all the enemies, who are near-invulnerable while in the dark, either start out in the dark, or use their first turn to immediately walk into the dark. It would be cool if you could knock them out of it, but not every character has a knock-back attack, and even if they do, you'd have to be attacking from just the right angle, and from some angles your attacks will just get blocked.

I'm in chapter 2, and I like that instead of saving the world, I'm just going to talk to someone about taxes. But goddamn does this game love throwing the JRPG gameplay cliches at you - I just had to rescue some kid for no reason before progressing, I got thrown in jail for no reason, and I inexplicably run across a boss monster, no matter how irrelevant to the story, at the end of every area. I'm sure I'll soon be going into the mountains to get an herbal cure for some disease, and collecting elemental orbs to save the world.

But Viola? :drool::drool:

Eternal Sonata does the battle system pretty well and it's pretty realistic when you think about it. If someone comes along with a really big attack that you don't block, do you think you'll just be able to snap back and start blocking all the other attacks in the string?

I do agree with you about the special attacks being a little wonky though but it adds a little challenge to the whole thing. The only time I didn't like it is when I wanted to pull something off with the guy I'm using but the special attack for my next guy came out at the beginning of his/her turn and I didn't get to build up stars for a Harmony Chain.

Did they refine the system at all for the PS3 or is that the version you're playing, pete?

I agree, but I wouldn't restrict it to just this generation, for me it's been the last several years. The last Square-Enix RPG I beat was Valkyrie Profile 2 way back in 06'.

With that said SO4 does look promising. I loved SO2 on the PS1 but hated SO3 and I really REALLY tried to like it.

I guess it's realistic, but it's a 3 hit combo. So if I fail to block the first combo, I'm not allowed to block the 2nd. And 2 is enough to kill me.

Yeah, I'm playing PS3. And I think I read they upped the difficulty in this version?

How long is Eternal Sonata?

Also, anyone know anything about the FFXIII battle system?

BTW, this thread is like going to a Persona 4 avatar convention.

I just hope it isn't FFXII again. I didn't really like switching out the characters in FFX either. I didn't feel as connected to the characters. They all felt like tools, and would only be used in certain situations.

I might actually try to pick up Eternal Sonata if its around $30 or lower. The demo was good enough, and I prefer my games shorter now-a-days.

Played straight through Dragon Warrior I between yesterday and today, took all of 8 hours to finish. Taking a small break before I tackle DWII.

Finished with Fable 2 on Friday. I would go back to Fallout 3 or ToV, but I just don't feel like playing a JRPG or playing with the wasteland setting. The wasteland background seems to depressing after playing through Fable 2.

I think I'll finally start GTA IV as a break between RPGs.

From what I know about FF13, which is not a hell of alot until the demo hits, its that FF13 will be a mix of Xenosaga 3, Chrono Trigger, and FF12, and FF10.

Thank god for no more random encounters, I am so done with that bullshit.

Eternal Sonata took me over 40 hours but I grinded in the optional dungeon at the end for several hours.

If you're dying after a three hit combo, you didn't level up enough.
If you're dying after a three hit combo, you didn't level up enough.
It wasn't one combo, it was several. Not blocking the first made subsequent combos unblockable.

The more I hear about people beating P4 the worse I feel for not playing it lately. At this point I think I may just restart the game and plan out my grinding better.

I finished Disgaea 3 tonight. Is it wrong that I never manage to level a character to level 100 in any of the Disgaea games? My highest level in 3 was 76.
How does everyone here feel about Valkyrie Profile (PS1)? Does it control as well as Star Ocean 2 (PS1)?
VP1 is great.

It's not real time like SO2. Well, it sort of is, but basically you have your turn, each character is assigned a button. You can press the buttons and do combos and stuff. Then when your turn is over, it's the opponent's turn to do whatever craziness they wanna do.

This isn't the best description, but it'll do.

Replaying P4 after bad end is tiring me out. I wanna start ToS2 even though I don't think it'll be good anyway.

Starting all over again was a bad idea.
You should feel guilty. How far are you in?
I'm at the Rise Dungeon. I need to do a lot of grinding to get ready for the boss.
It's not good.
Listen to this man. He speaks the truth.

I started Radiata Stories and then promptly stopped. It's just not that great of a game so far. Does it get better? If not, it's going to estarland.com.

I'd say your early enough to restart P4. If restarting just doesn't feel fun, finish the games and replay with a newgame+. I hear the extra boss and dungeon is intense.

That's why I'll probably restart. I'll probably get there in half the time it took me the first time around. But before I do that I might finish Valkyria Chronicles before the DLC for that comes out.

Radiata Stories has great art design and a lot of character, I'd say only Persona 3 and 4 have comparable design.

Gameplay was a bit odd and easy though.
