Well then I gotta wait and see if the price gets any lower (I still have a backlog of games to play, not to mention persona 3 on the way).

Thanks for the info ^^

ahahahahaha~!! omg omg!!

ahahahaha!!!

other than that... I beat Valkyrie Profile DS.

it's awesome! it makes me wanna go back and finish Rondo of Swords btw, which is a fantastic game but u kinda reached a point where it burnt you out.

Likewise Yggdra Union... these crazy unorthodox SRPGs do that to you I guess...

What? For real? DAY ONE PURCHASE

Also I heard Rondo of Swords is really, really hard.
Also I heard Rondo of Swords is really, really hard.
it's not that hard. the trick is figuring out the AI and baiting it to come to you as opposed to approaching it yourself.

the problem is... the stage I stopped playing at was when it begins by surrounding you with enemies...

round 1 death for realz.
Because it sucks? Disappointing I know, the idea seemed fun.
I was actually able to play up till the last dungeon. But I said fuck it when I realized I was going to fight every boss in the game again. But I'm still picking up the 2nd game since I enjoyed the first one enough to get it a chance.

In chapter 5 now, enjoying it a lot more than I did at first. I'm sure I'll be sick of it by the end, but it's not too bad.

IMO I thought Devil Summoner was better than a lot of JRPGs I've played in recent years. Gameplay got a little stale near the middle but the fusion system is what hooked me (it always does.) If anything at least the first game can be comended to help pave the way for a hopefully better sequel.

There were random encounters every few steps. I don't tolerate that kind of crap unless the game is amazing. The battles played (as someone once stated) like a really bad Tales knockoff.

Saying it's a knockoff is implying it's trying to be like Tales, and It doesn't even come close. Both are real time JRPGs and that's where the similarities end.

Well the battle system was an attempt at a Tales-style real-time action battle. As much as I like Nocturne a P3/4, I could not stand DS. I called it a knockoff because unlike Tales, the battles were unresponsive and lame. The setting of the game was great though, which is why I have hope for DS2.

Isn't Star Ocean more comparable to Tales, and didn't Star Ocean series start first? I only played Star Ocean series and Tales series so I really couldn't comment on how Devil Summoner compares to Tales.

Speaking of star ocean...here is a proper trailer of End of Eternity
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/48018.html
has no gameplay footage, but sets the tone of the JRPG. Honestly, it looks like another mediocre JRPG I will likely play.
Tales of Phantasia (Super Famicom) 1995
Star Ocean (Super Famicom) 1996
woops, sorry I wasn't sure
I don't even remember Tales of Phantasia...gonna wiki it now ^^

Well, I wouldn't say DS was a 2D Tales ripoff, because in 2D Tales you can only move in a single plane. Star Ocean at least you have a field to run around in.
No I said it was a 3D Tales ripoff, only crappy. BTW Star Ocean's original team shared some members with the Star Ocean team didn't it?
You've typo'd, but yeah, the Tales team left to make Star Ocean IIRC.

Whoever recommended Persona 3 FES I thank yah; Persona 3 FES is great. Prolly one of the few RPGs that I have played recently that is actually some what of a challenge. I'm currently at boss fight against Intrepid Knight (2nd Block of tartarus tower, any tips?); I especially like how this game curves you away from grinding too much.

I'm happily plunking through what will hopefully be my first complete playthrough of Chrono Trigger. If I can curb my spending, I won't get distracted halfway through again.

I'm guessing that's the intro for Persona. A lot better than the orginal one. Finally we can play the Snow Queen Quest.

Still, I hate playing RPGs on portable systems regardless of what game it is. I have Suikoden T for DS and I've barely touched it only because I hate looking at a tiny screen.

It changes the entire outcome of the game. The Snow Queen Quest is an optional path that leads to a diffrent ending. Instead of chasing after Guido your team instead investigates the Snow Queen rumor. Once you're done with the quest you get the credits and it's game over.

The code for the quest is still intact the American PS1 version but you need a gameshark code to unlock it. And since it's not translated all the text is jiberish.

That Persona opening was pretty sweet. I'm starting to think that I need to pick up a PSP someday soon. What are the best RPGs on the PSP? I know there are a lot of ports/remakes.

ME: That Persona intro is damn cool! Love the music!

REALITY: Yeah, Too bad you don't have a PSP, Loser. And probably won't for a long, long time.

ME: Maybe if it sells really really bad they'll port it to the PS2?

REALITY: Yeah, and maybe Yvonne Strahovski will come over and play (it?) with you. Quit dreaming and go back to crying in the corner about Crisis Core.

ME: Man, I really hate you, Reality.

I dunno, has anyone read up on the Snow Queen quest? I remember reading that you had to go through 8 hours of dungeons with no save points, only resume points. That sounds like the most frustrating experience there is.

Yes, once you start the quest the save points become something like resume points, however I believe there's a method where you can save. If I remember correctly you have to overwrite a save file with a continue file then copy that file to another memory card.... I think
Hopefuly the PSP version fixes this.

That Persona video was damn stylish. I should expect that by now though.

After finishing the World Ends With You I've realized I do like having good J-pop in my RPGs. I think I'd prefer the lyrics to stay in Japanese though. That way they they can get away with writing the most stupidest lyrics possible because I wouldn't understand it.

Krymer, reality is kicking my ass too.

My favorite RPGs on the PSP are:

Jeanne d'Arc
Disgaea
Brave Story New Traveler
Crisis Core

As for RPGs on portables, I'm all for it. I actually prefer it. I don't have a tube TV anymore so RPGs can be murder with the menu burn in. So far, I've only played Eternal Sonata on my living room set and I only played in short bursts.

I ended up giving up on SMT Nocturne. I got lost in the Prison where you go through the Magic Mirror. The FAQs I found were missing vital bits of information and got me super lost. I got tired of wandering around trying to find the right path (while also being right side up or upside down) and getting pimped by monsters that use Death and Expel. It wouldn't be so bad if I could keep fighting when the protagonist gets killed.

I'm thinking Lost Odyssey, Persona 3 FES, or Tales of the Abyss will be my next RPG at this point. Any suggestions?

Square has done a great job supporting both portables. The PSP also has FF Dissidia, Parasite Eve 3, and FF Agito XIII coming soon, in addition to ports of Valkyrie Profile and the Star Oceans that have been out.
Their portable outings have been better than their console ones. FF IV DS is better than X, XI or XII.
To be fair, IV has always been the best FF.

I don't only many RPGs on PSP, but my favorite is Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth. Jeanne D'Arc is a close second since I love SRPGs. I also have Disgaea, but there was too many things to do. I don't know what I should doing most of the time in Disgaea.

I'm going to see if I can find some other games along with Star Ocean for the B2G1 deal at GS. Last Remnant would be nice, but I won't be maximizing the deal if I get LR.

And of course, I can't forget that Super Robot Taisen is coming out on DS next week.

IMO the DoubleJump guide is crucial when playing Nocturne. I highly recommend it.

:puke:
In the 18 years since it came out on SNES, I've probably started FFIV 4 or 5 times, and I have yet to make it to the end before giving up from boredom.

What was better than FF II(IV) in 1991 on a console? The DS remake plays really well, and I think it's a great game overall. What don't you like about FF IV DS? FF X was linear, boring and easy as hell (save for some side quests), XI is online and takes like 100 days to enjoy (screw that) and XII has bad/nonsensical dialogue and boring battles. W
