Another Anime DVD question for the GGT:

What's the difference between the Perfect and Platinum boxsets of Evangelion, other than one having Slimpack Cases? I know you guys said the Platinum Perfect set is the best, but it's very expensive so I'm going to go with one of these.

EDIT: And do either of them contain the movies?

Neither contains the movie, but the Platinum version is cleaned up significantly and has 5.1 sound. It's worlds better. I just watched it like a week ago. Perfect collection = useless now.

How topical, though. I just watched End of Evangelion earlier today. It's still really depressing, for whatever reason. I still definitely like the movie about as much as I did last time (which is quite a bit), though it's weird... the characters just seem like their personalities changed overnight. Perhaps it's due to the bleaker tone. And there's a couple things like a certain shot in the beginning that did not need to be there (anyone who's seen it knows what I'm referring to.) Hopefully the EVA movies being made now will sorta smooth End of Evas shit out.

Cool.

I was actually inspired to finally buy the whole set the other day when I was going through my old DVDs and found Volume 1 (the same one from the Perfect Collection), which I bought used from Gamestop EBGames for like sub-3.00 a few years ago.

Oh my, End of Evangelion on DVD is also super-overpriced. LIFE IS ROUGH FOR A WHITE YOUTH LIKE MYSELF.
 
So I really dug the Force Unleashed Demo. Graphics were pretty blah, but the gameplay was really fun. Won't get it at release, but I'll definitely pick this up for >40.
 
I was very happy to see a preview up on IGN for Divine Divinity 2 (which I guess is wisely just called Divinity 2.) The first game is my favorite computer RPG of all time (perhaps my favorite PC game overall), so I really hope this one is a winner... or at least better than that awful Beyond Divinity. Blech. I just hope that the developer, Larian can wrangle a 3D engine, because so many European companies with decent RPG concepts falter because their game is buggy as shit... usually due to the engine.

so yes, this is just another attempt to get you guys to go out and play Divine Divinity. If you have a computer, you can run it, and it's excellent.

Did someone say Evangelion!?

EoE is perfection in movie form. I didn't really see any personality changes. If anything each character's personality was made even more obvious in the movie. Shinji became even more of a wuss, and Asuka even more firmly placed her worth in piloting an Eva. The only character to change personality was Rei.
 
Man, I just watched some Infinite Undiscovery videos on IGN and it's not lookin' so good. Frame rate dips, annoying looking shit... I dunno.

At least Tales of Vesperia is looking more and more like a good RPG option as the days go by. Hopefully IU will still turn out but oof.

Really, Shinji suddenly becoming more of a wuss and all that was just outta nowhere. I mean, yeah, he just killed Kaworu, but he was never this much of a lil bitch. And he jerked off to Asuka. I can't blame him, but c'mon. Seriously showing his jizz covered hand? And Misato actin' all... friendly towards Shinji right before she dies... I dunno, that also seemed kinda random. I mean, she jokes with Ritsuko about putting the moves on Shinji at the beginning of the series, but whoa. Holy on a sec, bitch. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't mean to sound overly negative about it, but there were a few things that just felt kinda off for me.
 
I don't know. Lets remember Shinji has just learned one of his fellow pilots is a clone, and the other has gone into a coma like state. His mother figure, Misato, he sees as just a dirty whore (look at that scene in EoE), his father uses him like a tool, he's crippled his best friend, all his other friends have moved away, and to top it all off he has killed the only person who ever said "I love you" to him. The one thing Shinji is desperately searching for. His completely despressed state of mind isn't surprising at all. If anything it's a surprise he hasn't killed himself.

As for Misato, she was about to die. She wanted to give Shinji something that might give him hope, and in a way make it seem like things would be ok. "We'll finish when you get back."

i'm like 9 hours into FFIV DS. Yay. Definitely better than the other versions of the game, even without the bonus dungeon.

I want Chrono Trigger DS so bad tho :( Some of those old school sound effects are just makin' me want that shit like hardcore.

i used to also but you got configure the net settings....it had my upload speed RLY high so i got lag a lot, toned it down, and now is perfect

Platinum, like chac said, its cleaned up and a whole lot better...but DONT get the thinpack if you like watching extras and stuff since they are cut out in the thinpack. Get the Neon Genesis Evangelion Platinum: Perfect Collection. it has all the bonus stuff

however, if you truely want everything. Hunt down the individual volums of the Platinum set since each also contains booklets that have trivia and facts.
 
To Rei and Charc regarding the Eva movie
I thought the movie was good , the only thing I would've liked to have seen from it was shinji go totally insane with the eva , when it activated to full completetion and just looked like the devil floating in the sky , and tear stuff up with it. I suppose I could live with simply the scene of Asuka tearing stuff up with the eva instead. I'm guessing they didn't want to have shinji fight in the eva so as not to dimish asuka's fight?

To stay on topic , played a bunch more FFX today.
Made it up to the fight with seymore at the macalonia temple , and the post fight fleeing from the scene.
It was kinda dumb though , since the first half of the fight , I had to look up a faq cause of something really obvious I didn't think about when fighting him. Then the second half of the fight was really easy. Then all the other mini fights after that were easy too , leading up the
yeti
which was surprising hard.
 
Yeah, I just finished FFX a couple weeks ago, and I was kinda disappointed.

Yesterday was such a crappy day for me. I hope today gets better.

Gonna try and get back into Xenosaga Ep1 today. I've been trying all week to spend some time with it, but as soon as I start I'll play like 10-15 minutes and something will come up and I gotta put it on hold. I was hoping to finish it up this week before Disgaea 3, but now it doesn't look like that'll happen.

I'm still on the fence about Ratchet & Clank F:QfB. Any GGTer played it? Is it worth the $15? I'm really hoping that R&CF:ToD will be added to the next wave of Greatest Hits cause I would love to pick that up too.
 
I was spoiled for the end of FFX way back before I actually played it, so it's never been one of my faves. Auron is badass, though, and I really liked FFX-2.

Also, going back to Eva for a sec: Has anyone read/been reading the manga? In some ways, it's preferable to the TV series. For instance, Shinji is
much less of a wuss and more like an ordinary kid who happens to have a lot of shit to deal with.
The only thing that stinks about the manga is that it's still unfinished. Also, I haven't seen the first Rebuild of Eva movie either (don't watch fansubs anymore), and I"m not sure if I ever want to, as from what I've seen, GAINAX has gone downhill ever since they wrapped up FLCL.

Still recovering from my bout of sickness yesterday, and my delicious leftovers had to be thrown out :cry: I did get further in DMC3, though.

Yeah, I find that I enjoy the NGE manga more than the anime. I need to go pick up volume 9 and 10. But there is really no rush since the artist is taking forever to do the manga. Also, I didn't like hated EoE. It just felt like an afterthought to me. And instead of get the Rebuild of Eva, I'd would love to get a chance to see a few of the NGE novels, or at least the new Evangelion Anima novel.

I'm having major dust problems around the gaming area. I basically dust everyday, and it's a real pain. Any suggestions on how to remedy this?
 
I thought the Force Unleashed demo was cool. Knocking people back is cool, throwing crates at them is cool, QTE's are cool. The actual melee wasn't thrilling, but otherwise what's not to like? I mean, I'll never buy it, but it was a fun demo.

What is that, Gurren Lagann? I haven't watched any episodes of a GAINAX show since Mahoromatic and Abenobashi, both of which were letdowns.

Between WipEout HD and GTi Club+ there will be some massive PSN GGT racing going on this winter.

I was thinking about it yesterday and there is something sentimental with me about it being 40 degrees outside, being curled up in a blanket, and playing video games that makes me really get into games. When its 85 outside and I have to pump the AC to survive in my room it makes hard to play games, probably why I didn't even touch my 360 backlog.
 
I'll never forgive FFX-2 for dumping FFX's battle system. They did the right thing though - if your battle system isn't complicated, at least make it fast.

Combat was good. Leveling was good. Story and character design sucked ass. So did the fact that you didn't really get any freedom until toward the very end of the game.

This was one of my biggest complaints too. It was practically impossible to backtrack until you're almost at the end of the game.

Played about an hour and a half or so of Xenosaga Ep1. Damn this Song of Nepalim or whatever. This dungeon sucks cause you'll run into a group of 4-5 guys and every one of them will attack all of my dudes for good chunks of damage, so if they surprise me and all get free attacks, I'm pretty much screwed. I guess this is as good a place as any to grind a little bit tho.

How long did it take you? I'm at chapter 12 or 13 and If I have more than 4 hours of game left I'm selling it. I can't take any longer than that.

Force Unleashed gets better everytime I play it. I may bite the bullet and pick it up day 1.
