Yes, ME2 is a much better shooter than ME1, but what about those that didn't play a shooter class in ME1? Where does that leave us? ME2 removed the armor restrictions and made the game into a shooter. My Shep in ME1 was a straight up Biotic G, Darth Vader would have been jealous of his force powers. Then comes ME2 and it changes that aspect, makes me play a 3rd person shooter that is "better" than ME1, but mediocre in terms of being 3rd Person Shooter. Instead of fixing things, they just straight up removed it. ME2 it is playable, but by no means as good as it was perceived.
Then again I am the kind of person that gave up on Red Dead Redemption (despite my total hype for it) because it was just boring for me. So maybe I don't know anything.[/QUOTE]
I dunno, I played ME2 as an infiltrator, and it still felt like more than just a shooter. I didn't feel like they ruined the biotics. And much like the first, the appeal for me didn't lie in the combat. I enjoyed the characters, questing, and dialogue, which to me is what makes a good RPG. I was glad they took out the crappy inventory management from the first. The improved combat was just a plus for me. My main complaint was the final boss, but I thought the game deserved the praise it got. As a fan of Mass Effect 1, I thought ME2 fixed a lot of my problems with the original.
As for RDR, I agree. I found it kind of boring as well, even though I typically love Westerns.
