GGT 143 chainsawed Kudo Tsunoda, not in Gears 3 but for real

Finished Gears today as well. Campaign was about the same length as the other games.

Lots of fun.

Also, Chacrana is a clown for inviting me and then never responding to invites or messages for the rest of the night.

Know what I have to say to you, Chac?

lol bro my notifications were off, and I accidentally sent an invite to everyone online. If it makes you feel better, I never wanted to play Gears with you.
why do they always have to push something over?
because they are just so full of raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaageeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Suck it chump!
Why don't you go back to not having a job?
Because I'm attending a prestigious law school, that's why.
Is Gears 3 really that short, Josh? Or did you just marathon it?
I can't imagine it's all that long. First 2 where about 6-8 hours to blow through on normal.
Man, right about now I'm all like

yo, lemme get dat Gears
I'm dead serious when I say Imma record myself asking for it at Gestapo like that.

It'll be tight.

I think if you asked like that at some of the Gamestops here they wouldn't even bat an eye. There was one time where I was in one and I literally heard a bunch of guys talking thug about COD (like the fish), saying stuff like "Man, you know I love dat COD." "Ya son, you should totally get dat COD."
Because I'm attending a prestigious law school, that's why.
You knocked it down a peg by going there, now it's just an average law school.
Worth it.
Yo, lemme get dat COD BLOPS.
I'm on Gears now if anyone besides Chacrana wants to play.
I would if I had it.

That's what they get for letting a black student attend.

The beginning of RE4 was the best part.

I stopped loving RE4 part-way through the castle, and I just got tired of it by the island.

Bold opinions return!

Who cares about Capcom?! I won't until start localization on Ace Attorney Investigations 2.

Anyway, right now, I'm all about Sega:
- Listened to the Project Diva 2nd OST for the first time yesterday. Soooo good.
- Started Sonic Colors today. Soooo good (so far, at least ;)).
- Alpha Protocol is $2 on Steam?! Already purchased (well, by my husband once I told him, but I kind of want to check it out, too).

Me.

But this needs to happen.

Aaaaadam, I saw your post, I thought you cared about Capcom fighters? They did give you 3sO after all.

True, but they screamed perfection. What we got is adequate.

Indeed, we lost 3s on GGPO in the process too.

The two moments responsible for my current state of not caring about Capcom:
- "Check it out fanbase, Ninja Theory is making us a Devil May Cry reboot!"
- "Sorry fanbase, we're not planning on releasing AAI2 in the US."

(Also, this is my second post in a row in this thread that's largely made up of a list o_O)

The only thing that makes Capcom worth anything these days is fighters.
Which is A-OK with me considering it took 10 fucking years just for them to make a new SF.

Sounds much like arcades in the mid-90s, which doesn't bode well for Capcom's future.

How so?

Capcom is dead ending themselves. New fighters are cool, but complete global saturation almost bankrupted them in the past. And essentially killing off every IP they have because they either outsource them to shitholes like Ninja Theory or just stop making them (Onimusha) is a bad idea, unless they can keep new IPs flowing.

Who's ready for Lost Planet 3 made by Digital Extremes?
How so?
Tons of fighting games, a few licensed Konami beat-em-ups, and not much else. That, and you don't see arcades much anymore.

Good point. They can't just keep making great games in one genre and doing second-rate work (if any work) for the rest.

Square Enix looked as if it was in a similar situation with JRPGs, but they're in much better shape these days. The merger with Eidos has certainly helped in their case, not to mention Dragon Quest being such a cash cow in Japan, their manga publishing arm, and the steady expansion of their merchandising division.

I'd argue that Capcom's not even making good games in one genre. MVC3 was fun, but not on the level of their fighters back in the day (tm.) SF4 is just bad.

Yeah, that was exactly my point. Remember, they almost went under and had fucking ACCLAIM publishing some of their shit because they were so poor. Resident Evil pulled them out from the abyss.

Would it happen again? Possibly.

Square Enix definitely got a boost from Eidos. At first I was like "WTF are you doing?" but now they have Deus EX and the now surprisingly great Batman franchises, plus the new Tomb Raider looks solid.

That was my point with the outsourcing. Eighting made MvC3 and Dimps made SF4. Capcom doesn't even make shit directly anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if RE6 will be outsourced too.
Dimps made SF4.
I did not know that o_O

I've always just thought of them as the developer who makes the better recent Sonic games along with a few smaller projects.

I still don't quite get what you're trying to say, why is this bad for Capcom? Their focus is mainly on console fighters now.

Nope, Dimps made SFIV and Eighting made MvC3.

The reason it's bad is the same reason it was bad for them in the late 90s. The bubble popped, and they had nothing else to fall back on. Resident Evil couldn't have happened at a better time.

There's less risk now since they mostly play it safe and stick to consoles, but they won't be as big as they'd like to be just by sticking to fighters.

And I already said that!! :nottalking:

I think what she is trying to say is that Capcom shouldn't put all their eggs in one basket, if the fighter market starts to lose popularity again, like it did in the past, Capcom isn't going to have many well regarded (or I guess a better word would be popular, specifically in the West) franchises left to fall back on (especially if they continue to weaken some of their stronger ones like RE and DmC).

Yup, that's pretty much it. I was comparing Capcom to arcades, not commenting on their arcade machines back in the day. Thanks for saying this better than I could :)

Big difference between back then and now is online play. You don't have to go to an arcade to play others, you can just boot up the game and somebody will always be there to play. Not to mention it's cheaper than blowing 50 cents per game, having to drive out to an arcade, etc. The introduction of online play made fighters boom, imo. It doesn't look like they're going to run out of steam anytime soon.

MK outsold MvC3 by a good margin.

Capcom should be worried.
